Cherry Audio’s ODC 2800 is a “three-in-one” virtual synth honouring an ARP classic

Cherry Audio has launched a “three-in-one” virtual instrument, the ODC 2800, inspired by the ARP Odyssey synth.

The ODC 2800 also lands as a tribute to ARP’s founder, Alan R. Pearlman, in honour of what would have been his 100th birthday on 7 June. While keeping original character at its core, it expands upon the capabilities of its inspiration by introducing new tools and features for modern producers.

So, what makes it three-in-one? According to Cherry Audio, the ODC 2800 recreates the sound, design, and character of all three versions of the original Odyssey, including the original 1972 model, the Mk II released in 1975, and its third rendition from 1978. It also offers expanded polyphony, an additional oscillator and LFO, expressive performance-focused features, plus a redesigned effects section.

What are the key features of the ODC 2800?

This virtual synth has three “faithfully modelled” filters – Mk I, Mk II, and Mk III – plus three complete VCOs with sawtooth and square/pulse waveforms, all with quantizable frequency control, extended oscillator sync routing, ring modulation, and cross-modulation. Each VCO also has three frequency modulators, including an assignable modulator offering 35 source options.

Its expanded polyphony means the ODC 2800 offers monophonic, mono legato, duophonic, and polyphonic performance with up to 16 voices and unison. Its two LFOs offer five waveforms and options for mono and poly modes, key reset, sync, pulse width, and delay.

Furthermore, there are two complete ADSR envelope generators, and the new effects strip also features its own dedicated LFO for modulation and global controls for all effects. The effects tray hosts a range of “studio-quality” options: Distortion/EQ, Dual Phaser, Flanger/Chorus, three types of Delays, and five Reverbs. The ODC 2800 also offers comprehensive MIDI mapping for controllers and easy DAW integration.

How much is the ODC 2800, and when is it released?

The ODC 2800 is available to purchase now for $59, and as part of Cherry Audio’s month-long Centennial Celebration, a portion of the June sales carried out via its official website will be donated to the Alan R. Pearlman Foundation, supporting its efforts to preserve Pearlman’s innovations and inspire future musicians.
