The Genres
Alongside longstanding flagship imprints Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep, two of the world’s most respected imprints in dance music, Anjunachill is keeping the brand’s signature ethos with emotive and melodic music at its core. The Anjuna brand is historically synonymous with quality dancefloor-dominating club records. These range right from trance and progressive to the fundamentals of deep house. Above & Beyond’s newest imprint, Anjunachill lives in the worlds of ambient, downtempo, and chillout. The genres which are associated with a rich, intertwined history with dance music and the Anjuna brand itself.
The Origins
Anjunachill is the latest chapter of a journey that began with Above & Beyond at Burning Man in 2014. It follows a spontaneous sunset yoga set on the iconic Robot Heart stage. This transformative experience sparked the creation of their dedicated yoga and meditation album, Flow State. Following the success of ‘Flow State,’ in 2020, the first EP in a new chillout series, ‘Reflections Vol. 1,’ was released on Anjunadeep. This marked a pivotal moment in establishing a dedicated home for Anjuna’s chillout catalog. Officially launched in May 2022 as Reflections, the label flourished as a standalone space for ambient and downtempo music.
Over the past three years, the Reflections label has released over 250 recordings from 70+ artists. It has amassed over 150 million streams in the process. The label has released critically acclaimed albums from Mark Barrott, Cephas Azariah, Yotto and Croquet Club. It has also received glowing coverage from Pitchfork, Resident Advisor, and BBC Radio 6 Music. With standout live showcases at Glastonbury and sold-out events at ADE, Reflections has established its reputation as a credible tastemaker in the chillout space. Anjunachill proudly carries the torch, continuing to champion, discover, and nurture some of the finest talents. Talents in ambient, downtempo, and neo-classical music.
The Signs of Arrival
To long-time fans of Anjuna and Above & Beyond, the Anjunachill rebrand will come as no surprise. Quieter moments have always been essential components of the band’s chart-topping electronic albums. The chillout genre is one the Anjuna family of labels have a long history in – from catalog classics on Above & Beyond albums. It includes their debut LP title track ’Tri-State’ and ’Sun In Your Eyes’ from Group Therapy, to much-loved fan-favorite moments from Andrew Bayer, Cubicolor and Croquet Club, to the RIAA-certified Gold ‘Don’t Leave’ (a single from the ‘Flow State’ album) in 2019.
The Initial Artists
Artist priorities for 2025 include Cephas Azariah, Mark Barrott, and newcomers Planet of Souls. Planet of Souls is the exciting new downtempo alias of prolific producer Paul Rogers (NERD, Gorillaz and Pete Tong) and close friend Tom Barlow, a sound design master. Anjunachill also welcomes new additions to the label, including Anjunadeep’s Luttrell, Steven Weston, BAILE and Cornelius SA, Anjunabeats’ PROFF, as well as new faces in the form of South African neo-classical duo Ad Harmonium and British producer Toutounji.
The First Release
Anjunachill’s first release comes on January 14 by way of Above & Beyond’s new single, ‘Shall We Begin.’ Debuting as the intro for Above & Beyond’s guest mix on the 500th episode of the Anjunadeep Edition last summer, ’Shall We Begin’ is a moving downtempo electronic piece that takes listeners on a three-minute emotional journey. Echoing the sweeping soundscapes of their iconic ‘Flow State’ album, the track is poignant, reflective, sentimental, and captivating. In October 2024, 15,000 fans got a sneak preview of ‘Shall We Begin’. It served as the soundtrack to the mysterious ‘Anjuna 25′ teaser video and was played right before Above & Beyond’s headline set at Above & Beyond’s 600th Group Therapy Radio Show (ABGT600) in Mexico City. This aptly named tune not only kicks off the Anjunachill label but ushers in an exciting era for Above & Beyond. They are set to play at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival in Indio, California, this April.

Hard-hitting sonics will also prevail with acts like rock-influenced dance pioneers Sullivan King B2B Kayzo, meteoric electronic acts Levity, and Tape B who will play individual sets in addition to a B2B. Drum & bass producer Reaper and rising Toronto bass DJ and producer Canabliss are among the phase one slate.

In a court filing submitted on Monday, January 13th, Doe’s legal counsel requested the dismissal of the lawsuit “without prejudice“, allowing for the potential re-filing of the case at a later date. This development comes two weeks after Judge Mónica Ramírez Almadani ruled that Doe must disclose her true identity to continue pursuing her allegations. While acknowledging the sensitive and highly personal nature of the accusations, the judge determined that Doe had failed to provide sufficient legal grounds for maintaining anonymity.
Judge Almadani emphasized the inherent public scrutiny associated with legal proceedings, citing precedent that those utilizing the courts must be prepared to face such scrutiny. Doe’s attorneys had previously vowed to appeal this ruling, citing the potential for severe emotional and psychological harm to the survivor. However, the status of any appeal remains uncertain following the voluntary dismissal of the lawsuit.
Diplo’s legal team has consistently denied the allegations, labeling them as an “obvious shakedown attempt“. In contrast, Doe’s lawsuit, filed in June, alleged a consensual relationship with Diplo from 2016 to 2023, during which she occasionally consented to sexual recordings. However, she claimed that Diplo subsequently shared these recordings without her knowledge or consent, causing significant emotional and psychological distress.
The lawsuit accused Diplo of violating the federal Violence Against Women Act, amended in 2022 to prohibit the non-consensual sharing of intimate images. It also cited California’s revenge porn law.

The label launches today by virtue of Above & Beyond’s breathtaking new single, "Shall We Begin." XILS-lab launches The Eighty as virtual Vangelis soundalike homage to iconic Seventies synth classic
It is fair to say that Bladerunner — the now-classic Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi film from 1982 set in a dystopian future Los Angeles of 2019 — is, for many, inextricably linked with Vangelis’ BAFTA- and Golden Globe-nominated score, showcasing his superlative skills with that iconic Seventies-vintage synth classic that was arguably as ahead of its time as that trailblazing score to which its sound subsequently became inextricably linked in itself. Much missed, Vangelis left this mortal coil in 2022, sadly, while the relatively few remaining fully operational examples of Yamaha’s CS-80 synth — supporting true eight-voice polyphony, with two independent synthesizer layers per voice each with its own set of front panel controls, in addition to a number of hardwired preset voice settings and four parameter settings stores based on banks of subminiature potentiometers — that musically meant so much to him are highly coveted by high-flying collectors, commanding eye-watering prices extending into high five-figure territory, putting them well beyond the reach of mere musical mortals… not that many could comfortably carry one anyway as they weigh in at a back-breaking 100kg/220lbs (including built-in hard case), regardless of how deep their pockets may well be!
Fast forward to today, though, and XILS-lab’s The Eighty virtual instrument is inspired by the iconic Yamaha CS-80 as a meticulously-crafted software emulation, faithfully recreating its distinct sound and character. It includes the original presets and integrates various performance features to mirror an authentic CS-80 experience while offering new enhancements.
Enter the two main synthesis signal paths inspired by the CS-80, featuring the linked HPF (High-Pass Filter) and LPF (Low-Pass Filter) that contribute to its iconic sound, while a third synthesis signal path can additionally be blended through an innovative 2D mixer for expanded sonic possibilities.
Put it this way, though: those meticulously modelled zero-delay 12 dB resonant high-pass and low-pass filters are implemented in each synthesis signal path to maintain an analogue-like sound without digital artefacts, while the meticulously modelled oscillators also include unique CS-80 characteristics such as saw wave creation with short pulses, thereby ensuring distinctive tone and texture.
The Eighty offers polyphonic aftertouch, keyboard followers, and velocity sensitivity, allowing players to shape sounds with nuanced expression — albeit whether they can match that which was demonstrated on so many memorable musical occasions by Vangelis is down to how well the player in question can actually play! Performance options additionally include the SUB OSCILLATOR and RING MODULATOR sections, designed to enhance live playability.
And as if that was not enough to be getting on with, the sophisticated ARPEGGIATOR supports cyclical modulation and muting, going beyond simple up-and-down chord patterns to breathe life into arpeggiated sequences.
Furthermore, four integrated effects — DEL (delay), PHA (phaser), RVB (reverb), and EQ (equalisation) — with independent routing options duly deliver a warm and deep sound. Meanwhile, MOD (modulation) options include that RING MODULATOR section with ATTCK (attack) and DEC (decay) envelope control, as well as CHORUS for TREM (tremolo), vibrato, and ensemble effects.
An advanced, single-window preset manager facilitates speedy access to The Eighty’s sounds, with over 500 presets from renowned sound designers — including the original 12 presets that helped shape iconic tracks by the likes of Stevie Wonder and, of course, Vangelis. Ultimately, users can manage, tag, and organise presets efficiently to streamline sound selection. Surely Vangelis — were he still with us — would approve of XILS-lab so successfully recreating the tools that musically shaped Bladerunner and many more cultural milestones.

On December 28, 2024, LIV Las Vegas re-opened after a several month hiatus where the club expanded and upgraded within a year of its grand opening. Industry experts say the upgrades give LIV LV the most sophisticated nightclub effects system in America. They call it a “spaceship experience” with two massive moveable truss circles that change the entire look of the club, synchronized with CO2 jets that create crazy visuals. It required a rewrite of the local fire code to accommodate! The expansion also included expanded areas for patrons so the capacity could be increased. This was the epic venue for a once in a lifetime show.
Tiesto had already taken the decks by the time we arrived, as the Sphere show ended at 130am and it took some time to make the trek over. Upon arrival, the scale and grandeur of the club is on immediate display. It’s like Hi Ibiza, but it’s ritzier and newer and much bigger than the OG LIV Miami.
Tiesto was playing an assorted of recent hits and some remixes of his classics, but the music started to shift towards more melodic and deeper sounds. I was surprised as it was more like his VERWEST alias but harder hitting. Then I remembered that he was scheduled to play the Sphere with Anyma on Jan 1, Zamna Tulum, and Space Miami in January. Tiesto has been working on some more underground sounds! Then things got even better. Suddenly a distinctly melodic techno track came on and the screens all around the club (they are everywhere) started showing “Anyma” on them! We looked to the front and Anyma had arrived and had taken the decks to play B2B with Tiesto.
He had not announced any afterparties for the Sphere show that night so this was a real treat and a first-ever b2b between these titans. Anyma played a bunch of tracks that he had not just played at the Sphere and they were just as intense and incredible as the Sphere show. He did, of course, throw in quite a few of the hits from the Sphere show as well. All told Anyma probably played about an hour to 90 minutes, and it was hard to tell whether they were trading off tracks or just letting Anyma play for a while. There were some tracks in there that felt like they were either Tiesto tracks or they were Anyma remixes that were tributes to Tiesto. Eventually Anyma left the stage and Tiesto finished things out until around 5am. It was absolutely a night to remember!

The Belgian DJ posted a heartfelt message to his fans via social media saying, “I’ve got very lucky that I’ve been able to do something I love for almost 15 years now, and none of that would be possible without you guys.” Despite this, he has decided that he needs to take a break from touring to work on his health, spend time with family, and to finish and write music. He has stated that he could be away for “a couple of months or longer” but is unsure when he will return.
It’s very important for artists to look after themselves and having been touring since he was 17 years old it’s fair to say that Eptic needs and deserves a break. Though he won’t be on stage for a while there is still plenty to look forward to from him as he is continuing to produce new music and will hopefully be back soon feeling ready to rock the house.

Whether playing to 50, 500, or 5000 this unbridled energy and commitment to the art of mixing never falters and shows why Sims is regarded as one of the true masters on the circuit, both a DJ’s DJ and a straight-up party rocker in equal measures.
In the studio, Sims has notched up over 50 original productions as well as countless remixes and edits in the past two decades. Embraced by techno’s originators and Detroit ambassadors he’s been, uniquely for a UK artist, called upon by Jeff Mills, Robert Hood and Kevin Saunderson for remixes as well as contributing to the majority of influential European labels from Mote Evolver to Drumcode to Cosmic to Token via Tresor, CLR, and his own (now completed) Theory imprint. Ollie: Easy! I’m Ollie or sub-antics. Together we run Overview Music and have done for the past 6 years now.
What’s your ethos?
Peter: A real focus on quality and consistency. We have a very DIY philosophy and try to be as personable and communicative as possible.
Ollie: Create a relaxed and open environment where artists can express themselves, create relationships and be part of something bigger. All rise together!
Tell us your origin story…
Peter: Ollie and I met for the first time at a show in Egg, London, he recognised me from my podcast whilst I was at Lifestyle Music. I knew of his platform sub-antics, we hit it off and I started feeding his dub addiction.
A few months later after I was booted out of that label, I decided to start my own and turned to Ollie to see if he wanted to get involved. When he told me he was a video animator, I didn’t give him much choice. The rest is history!
Ollie: Bang on! Can’t say I remember a whole lot from that Egg show but couldn’t forget that. I was doing my own thing on Soundcloud at the time and had caught onto what Pete was doing over at Lifestyle. After meeting in a London we kept in contact over the next year.
During that time I can remember a few occasions of him telling me I should start a label. Next thing I know at the end of 2018 I got the message and thought why not! And here we are…
Tell us about your local scene…
Ollie: Bristol based here. Been here for about 3 years now, originally from Bedford a bit North of London. I guess it’s between here and London for the current hub of drum & bass! No shortage of nights going on all the time and we’re incredibly spoiled with the acts that come through.
Peter: I’m originally from a small town called Horsham in Sussex, a surprising hotbed of D&B talent, but moved down to the south coast to sunny Brighton well, Hove, actually. It’s a real cultural area, very open and accepting. You can be who you want and there’s quite literally something for everyone. The drum & bass scene is strong, with a lot of artists & labels around or passing through. We also have one of the best small nightclubs in the whole country- Volks. If you think differently you are wrong!
Do you have a specific sound or vibe?
Peter: Overview has been known for more ‘’deep’’ and ‘’minimal’’ sounding music, but our sound has definitely evolved over time. The artists we work with dictate this really, so now we also put out more upfront tracks and have even started dipping our toes into the 140 realm.
For us it’s still very much about underground aesthetics though and being honest with what we believe in; taking risks and not just being profit or numbers driven.
Ollie: Yeah, echoing Pete it for sure started out a bit ‘deeper’ or more ‘techy’. As time passes your artists evolve and the label evolves with them, after all they define the sound to some extent. It’s a lot broader now but always comes back to forward thinking underground music at the core.
Who can we see releasing with you?
Peter: Where do we start?
A few of our mainstays that have been with us since around the beginning include Klinical, Waeys, Wingz, Rizzle, Operate, Ill Truth, Creatures, Nami, gyrofield, Skylark & GROUND. In recent times we’ve added Koherent, Rueben, YAANO, Azotix, VELLE, Emperor & Kyrist all to the roster.
We also work with some incredible vocalists including LaMeduza, Rider Shafique, Collette Warren, SOLAH, Visionobi, Freddy B & T-Man.
Ollie: Yeah we’re incredibly lucky to work with such a talented group of artists (and just lovely people). To look at 2025 shaping up and still having those familiar names from the very beginning really is a joy.
Got to also shout out my Bristol locals Thread, Para & SMG who have all come on board this year too. Some serious talent coming through which is great to see.
Tell us about your A&R process…
Peter: We have a very hands-off approach to A&R most of the time. We very much try to let the artists do what they want and we find the best music is usually created in that environment, made with that trust.
Ollie: Beyond a simple yes and no it’s mainly just refinement. Our artists are super capable so there’s often little technical input needed. If the vibe is there and it resonates with me and Pete we’re good to go!
What makes you different from other labels?
Ollie: Our artists and their sounds. I don’t know many labels where you’d hear quite the breadth of sonics across a roster and discography.
Peter: I’d currently say our consistency. Although we are releasing more music than ever, I don’t feel we’re dropping the bar just to fit a schedule, we just genuinely have that many brilliant artists making that much good music.
We’re not super interested in chasing trends either. Yes some artists might want to take their sound a certain way, but we aren’t sitting here thinking ‘x is popular right now, we should be doing this’. We really just try to do what comes naturally and it’s working.
Ollie and I are not producers either, although that can have its limitations, it means we’re very much focused solely on the label and probably have more of a fan/listener perspective. There’s not too many labels in our position where that is the case!
What does it take to run a bass music label in 2025?
Peter: On an independent level, it requires being as multi-disciplinary as possible. Between both of us we can run almost every aspect of a label from the art to animation, to events and accounting. It’s been a major key to our success but it has required a lot of thankless hours.
Ollie: In 2025? Probably an ability to shut out the noise. It’s becoming such a big space now and with social media it can be easy to get caught up in what others are doing and start comparing. Stay true to yourself and focus on what you’re doing.
What have you got coming up we should look out for?
Peter: We are in the process of releasing our 100th release! It’s a two part remix compilation called ‘Overview100’ and it’s a massive milestone for our little label.
We’re also going full steam ahead with Overview shows right now and have dates around the UK in Manchester, Brighton, Milton Keynes, Leeds & Bournemouth, as well as abroad in Austria, Germany, The Netherlands & Italy. Our next label tour to New Zealand & Australia is also shaping up!
Ollie: Beyond that there’s some really exciting music coming in 2025. Some familiar faces and some new! And not just drum & bass.

Rescheduling the GRAMMYS?
The Grammy Awards, music biggest night, pays homage to the giants of the industry. Each genre, spoken word, and collaborative works is honored during this evening. This includes EDM artists. This year, however, the event is facing the possible threat of wildfires, raising questions whether it’ll happen at all. Senior executives and Recording Academy leaders have already mentioned the possibility of a reschedule, as well as modifying the event to serve as a fundraiser to aid the city dealing with the wildfires.
This decade alone, this would be the third time the show is postponed/cancelled. The first two times happened during the COVID and OMICRON outbreaks, which affected the entire world.
Wildfires
The fires spread quickly since last Tuesday due to high winds. The origin area was the Pacific Palisades, before migrating to Santa Monica and Malibu. As of now, the death toll has risen to 24 and there have been thousands of residents misplaced, with their homes burnt to ashes. First responders have done what they can to contain the fire, with help from different states, and countries.
Our heart goes to the city of Los Angeles, a safehaven for music, EDM and the underground.

As the Los Angeles wildfire crisis rages on, the trio has announced a benefit concert to raise funds and bring their community together in support of the city amid one of its darkest moments. All proceeds from the upcoming event will be donated to Red Cross LA and a number of local fire departments, delivering vital resources to the frontlines of disaster relief.
24 people have died so far, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and evacuation orders are in effect for 105,000 residents. The coastal Palisades Fire, the largest and most devastating blaze of a cluster of ongoing wildfires, is now "one of the most destructive natural disasters in the history of Los Angeles," according to Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley.
SLANDER and NGHTMRE's charity showcase will take place January 24th at Avalon Hollywood, one of the region's most storied nightlife venues. A historic venue with roots dating back to 1927, Avalon will serve as the perfect symbolic backdrop in a powerful display of unity.
In addition to an epic night of live music, fans can participate in an early-evening merch pop-up in the club's lobby before the show starts at 9pm.

Returning to New Zealand for the first time in over six years, the house music superstar descended on Auckland's Victoria Park January 10th and delivered a performance fit for the history books. He drew in 24,000 fans and headlined what was ultimately confirmed as the country's largest electronic music event.
That's according to the show's organizers, Trademark Live, a leading event brand in the Aotearoa music industry who produces over 200 shows a year. FISHER also received a Guinness World Record certificate for the achievement.

Few can whip up a crowd like FISHER on a summer night, and the Australian DJ proved once again why he's one of the hottest commodities in dance music. The record-breaking turnout transformed the park into a groovy sea of bucket hats, Hawaiian shirts and pure euphoric energy.
Tracks like "Losing It" and "You Little Beauty" even had fans braving the elements, dancing through teeming rain and transforming what otherwise would have been a potential washout into a triumphant spectacle.
The night also represented somewhat of a turning point for Auckland’s live music scene. FISHER's performance filled a void left by the cancellation of the 2025 edition of Bay Dreams, which was once the country's biggest and most iconic festival. Promoters, inspired by a simpler format of single-artist showcases, bet big on FISHER—and it all paid off.
For FISHER, the historic night was undoubtedly owed in part to his remarkable 2024. Riding high on collaborations like "Waiting For Tonight" (with Jennifer Lopez) and "Somebody" (with Gotye, Kimbra, Chris Lake and Sante Sansone), he brought his trove of hits to the stage with unparalleled showmanship.
