In the world of music, innovation and technology have always played a significant role in shaping the way we create consume music. One such innovation that has been making waves in the music industry is the rise of generative AI platforms like Suno AI and Udio. These platforms allow users to create music simply by providing written text prompts, instructing the software on what kind of track to produce. While this technology has been praised for its ability to democratize music production and make it accessible to a wider audience, it has also sparked controversy and legal battles.
Recently, Suno AI, led by its CEO, made a bold claim that people “don’t enjoy” making music. This statement raised eyebrows in the music community, as it seemed to undermine the creative process and passion that many artists pour into their craft. Alongside Udio, Suno AI is currently facing a lawsuit from major labels Sony, Universal, and Warner. The allegations against these AI platforms suggest that their systems were trained using data from unlicensed music, used without consent, totaling around $150,000 in damages. This legal battle has brought to light the ethical implications of using AI in music production and the importance of respecting artists’ rights.
Moreover, the issue of AI’s role in music has not been confined to just legal battles. In the UK, the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Music has called for government action to safeguard artists in the face of AI-generated music. The group has argued that AI-generated music should be subject to regulation, including laws that require artists’ consent for their works to be used in AI training and clear attribution for AI-generated music. This call for regulation comes in response to concerns raised by artists like FKA twigs, who have spoken out about the exploitation of their likeness in AI-generated works without their consent.
The Interview Highlights

“We didn’t just want to build a company that makes the current crop of creators 10% faster or makes it 10% easier to make music. If you want to impact the way a billion people experience music you have to build something for a billion people,” Shulman told 20VC.
“And so that is first and foremost giving everybody the joys of creating music and this is a huge departure from how it is now,” he continued. “It’s not really enjoyable to make music now […] It takes a lot of time, it takes a lot of practice, you need to get really good at an instrument or really good at a piece of production software. I think the majority of people don’t enjoy the majority of the time they spend making music.”
Interviewer Harry Stebbings followed this by asking if the scenario was comparable to running, which many people find difficult to begin with, but pursue, improve and grow to love. “Most people drop out of that pursuit because it’s hard,” Shulman replied. “I think that the people you know that run, this is a highly biased selection of the population that fell in love with it.”
The Future of AI and Music
Despite the controversies surrounding AI in music production, there is no denying the potential for innovation and creativity that AI technology brings to the table. Generative AI platforms like Suno AI and Udio have opened up new possibilities for music creation, allowing aspiring artists and producers to experiment and collaborate in ways that were previously unimaginable. However, as we navigate the complexities of AI in music, it is essential to prioritize ethical considerations and respect artists’ rights.
Looking ahead, the future of AI in music will likely be shaped by a balance between technological advancement and ethical responsibility. By establishing clear regulations and guidelines for the use of AI in music production, we can create a more sustainable and equitable ecosystem for artists, creators, and listeners alike. As we continue to explore the intersection of AI and music, it is crucial to remember the importance of human creativity, passion, and emotion in the art of music-making. Ultimately, by embracing the potential of AI while upholding ethical standards, we can ensure that music remains a source of inspiration and joy for generations to come.
As the debate over AI in music production continues to evolve, it is clear that the music industry is entering a new era of innovation and transformation. By addressing the ethical challenges and legal implications of AI-generated music, we can pave the way for a more ethical, inclusive, and sustainable future for music creation. With collaboration, dialogue, and a commitment to artistic integrity, we can harness the power of AI to enhance creativity, expand opportunities, and celebrate the rich tapestry of musical expression.

American powerhouse Cole Knight has revealed her latest work, “Going Higher.”Following Knight’s hit EP “Freak” from November 2024, this hypnotic house anthem, released on January 10th, represents her first annual offering.
“Going Higher” delivers an addictive mix of pulsing house rhythms and painstakingly produced electronic production, living up to its name. The music’s basis is a persistent four-on-the-floor pulse blended with whirling synths to produce an immersive auditory environment. Knight’s unique vocals meld with the instrumental to provide the mechanical accuracy of the song’s human touch.
This record distinguishes itself in part by Knight’s ability to bridge the gap between American and European electronic sensibilities. Knight offers a different viewpoint on her production, having cut her teeth in the US club scene before sailing across the Atlantic. The end result is a track that seems just as natural in a crowded London warehouse as it would at a Miami beach club.
The output on “Going Higher” highlights Knight’s artistic development. Her “Freak” EP proved her to be a force to be reckoned with, but this most recent track shows fresh confidence in her sound design. While the well-programmed drum rhythms keep dancers tightly locked in the groove, the complex layering of synthesizer arpeggios generates a sense of endless motion.
Now accessible on all main digital streaming platforms, the track is poised to infuse dancefloors and playlists all around with its contagious vitality.

With their most recent releases, Interstellar Recordings—the melodic echo of Insomniac Music Group—offers two contrasting works that wonderfully highlight the label’s adaptability across the electronic music scene. From peaceful deep house to pulsing techno, the albums by Warung & Elliot Vast and Hidden Empire highlight the range of contemporary electronic music.
Warung and Elliot Vast’s “Racing Heart” is a masterwork in subtle evolution and emotional depth. The first plucked melody on the track provides a mesmerizing basis and instantly transports listeners into its complex soundscape. It is expertly written. The production’s enchantment comes from an ethereal voice joining the mix to add layers of mystique to the already mesmerizing environment.
“Racing Heart” distinguishes itself, especially with its deft use of piano harmonies, which progressively increase in intensity and produce a natural and deliberate development. The arrangement is remarkably similar to Keinemusik’s distinctive sound, which fits very nicely with the present wave of chill-afro house dominating dancefloors worldwide. The production quality is flawless, letting every component breathe while maintaining a coherent audio story even if the speed stays slow.

By comparison, Hidden Empire’s “Feel Free” carries listeners right to the core of Berlin’s underground techno scene. This high-energy presentation spends little time in establishing its aims and starts a fast-fire arrangement of hypnotic synthesizer work that grabs attention right away. The strong vocal presence of the music adds still another level of intensity, exactly balancing the powerful rhythmic basis.
The production shines in its capacity to produce complex sound designs and preserve constant vigor. Any Berlin warehouse party would see the top-line synths falling into deep, underground-style drops that would feel natural. It’s evidence of Hidden Empire’s capacity to preserve their original artistic expression while yet capturing the core of contemporary techno.

If hotel walls could talk, the Marlin Hotel in Miami would have stories of EDM royalty echoing from every corner.
Back in 2013, Avicii famously turned the boutique South Beach property into a living shrine to his music and brand during Miami Music Week. Now, two exclusive relics from that historic takeover—a duffel bag and bathrobe given only to VIP guests at the time—have cropped up in an online auction.
Nearly 12 years ago, the late dance music icon transformed the Marlin into the Avicii Hotel, a 16-room fan experience that catered to VIPs and diehard fans flocking to Miami for Ultra Music Festival. The lavish experience included rooms named after his greatest hits, personalized welcome notes, Avicii-themed cocktails, and even branded toiletries.
Among the most coveted items from the exclusive event were limited-edition duffel bags and bathrobes provided to guests staying at the hotel.
eBay

The bag and robe, each emblazoned with bespoke Avicii branding, were designed as stylish yet functional keepsakes, unmistakably embodying the artist’s signature aesthetic. With only 16 rooms available, the exact number of these items produced remains unknown, but it's safe to say their scarcity only fuels their mystique.
The sale comes at a poignant time for Avicii's legacy. Netflix on On New Year's Eve released Avicii – I'm Tim, a deeply personal documentary chronicling the life, struggles and musical genius of the dance music legend. Owning a piece of the late artist's history is akin to holding onto a fragment of a moment that defined the golden era of EDM and celebrated the genius of one of its most beloved artists.
The duffel bag and bathrobe are now open for bidding on eBay.

Armin van Buuren and Omnia have joined forces for "Love," a track that feels equally at home in a grand architectural marvel as it does reverberating across a packed festival ground at midnight.
From the outset, “Love” sets the tone with an ethereal melody that shimmers like light through stained glass. There’s a sacred quality to the opening bars as organ-like chords rise and fall, evoking a sense of awe and mysticism.
But this serenity is short-lived, as the track quickly accelerates into a symphony of gated synths that crash like tidal waves. The layers are rich and textural, each reverberating with urgency creating a deeply energizing soundscape.
The track's lyrics are received like a mantra that unites us with the music’s celestial pulse. Omnia’s signature melodic precision pairs seamlessly with van Buuren's unmatched ability to ignite a crowd, making “Love” a perfect fusion of their strengths.
"Love" has been a memorable recent staple in the trance icon's live sets at festival behemoths like Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas and Dreamstate SoCal. Listen to the new single, out now via Armada, below.

For their profoundly poignant tune “Amado,” now available on Adriatique‘s esteemed Siamese imprint, Maxi Meraki collaborates with Orsay. Meraki’s expected debut on the label comes from the track, which has been a mainstay in Adriatique’s X party series all winter.
‘Amado‘ crosses conventional genre lines to combine the hypnotic pace of melodic techno with the natural warmth of Afro-house components. Resonant piano melodies dance above a foundation of complex percussion in the production, which masterfully combines analog synthesis and acoustic components. The end effect is an emotionally intense trip as well as a dance floor trigger.
For Orsay, who wrote the song as an homage to his late father, the release has great personal meaning. “‘Amado,’ which means “loved ones,” came out of a place of intense thought and memory,” Orsay says. “A voice message from my father inspired the melodic structure; I turned that into the emotional core of the track.”
After Orsay’s ‘Natura’ premiere went so well, this partnership offers a strong beginning to 2025. Industry heavyweights such RÜFÜS DU SOL, WhoMadeWho, Adriatique, and Carlita have already embraced the single as a potential defining sound of the electronic music scene of the year.
Maxi Meraki’s Siamese debut marks a turning point since it shows his capacity to strike the mix between dancefloor utility and emotional depth. The release explains why Adriatique has been promoting the tune during their most recent shows: it allows the dancefloor to generate moments of group catharsis while preserving a close emotional link with listeners.
‘Amado’ is evidence of the ability of electronic music to turn personal experience into universal feeling, therefore bridging memory and movement, pain and celebration, past and present.

Boiler Room has been a revolutionary force in the music industry since its inception in 2010. Starting in a small London basement, the platform was built around a simple idea: to showcase music in its raw and unfiltered form. A single camera captured intimate performances by DJs in front of a modest crowd, while millions tuned in online. This stripped-back concept resonated with fans worldwide, offering them a window into underground music scenes they might never have discovered otherwise.

Over time, Boiler Room expanded its reach and influence, hosting events in cities like Berlin, New York, and Tokyo. It became a global platform for a wide range of music genres, from garage and house to grime and jazz. The focus has always been on celebrating authenticity and giving a stage to both emerging and established artists. Performances such as Fred Again..’s 2022 set, which quickly gained millions of views, highlight the platform’s ability to amplify talent and connect artists with fans on a deeply personal level.

The recent acquisition of Boiler Room by Superstruct Entertainment marks a pivotal moment in its history. Superstruct is a major player in the live music world, owning and operating some of the biggest festivals globally, including Sziget and Parookaville. This partnership combines Boiler Room’s expertise in digital broadcasting with Superstruct’s strength in live event production, creating opportunities for innovation in how music is experienced.

For Boiler Room, this acquisition could mean access to resources that will allow it to grow even further while reaching new audiences. However, it also raises important questions. Will the platform maintain its commitment to underground music and its reputation as a champion for independent artists? Or will the influence of a larger corporate entity risk diluting the unique identity that has made Boiler Room so beloved?

This acquisition reflects the growing importance of blending live and digital experiences in the music industry. It also highlights the value of platforms that can bring niche, underground scenes to a global stage. For fans, it is a reminder of the role they play in supporting authentic spaces that prioritize artistry over commercialism.

The future of Boiler Room will depend on how this new chapter unfolds. As it integrates into Superstruct’s ecosystem, fans and artists alike will be hoping it retains the essence that made it a cultural icon while embracing the opportunities that come with this partnership.

When the prospect of creating a new venue with Kygo, Myles Shear and their Palm Tree Crew brand presented itself, we jumped at the opportunity to bring a new boutique, festival-style experience to the Las Vegas market for the first time,” said Jason Strauss, Tao Group Hospitality Co-CEO.
“Palm Tree Crew, Kygo and Tao Group are a perfect match as they all focus on creating one of a kind, unforgettable experiences that bring people together through live entertainment,” said Ari Kastrati, MGM Resorts’ Chief Content, Hospitality & Development Officer. “We are grateful for our continued partnership with Tao Group and look forward to our new relationship with Palm Tree Crew as we offer our MGM Grand guests a dynamic, new experience that further enhances our entertainment portfolio.”
Additional performances, details and links to purchase tickets will be announced in early 2025. For more information on Palm Tree Beach Club, please visit PalmTreeBeachClub.com and follow @palmtreebeachclub.
