Anjunadeep over the years
Anjunadeep has sold out premiere locations, including London’s Printworks, New York’s Brooklyn Mirage, and Albania’s own destination festival. It hosts regular shows worldwide. Organizing events in 30 countries across five continents thus far, the label has become well-known for producing a cheerful, welcoming party environment, all soundtracked by some of the most creative artists and selectors.
Celebrated for its soulful and creative sound, Anjunadeep, founded by Above & Beyond and James Grant, has evolved into one of the most acclaimed independent record companies in dance music. Alongside the trance and progressive house powerhouse Anjunabeats, and Anjunachill, the refuge for ambient, downtempo, and chill music, Anjunadeep is one of the three flagship labels started by Above & Beyond. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Anjuna family of labels, and among the year-long festivities, this event will be a highlight.
Anjunadeep on the Thames

Drawing over 400,000 fans to celebrate unity, creativity, and auditory innovation, Tomorrowland turns the Belgian countryside into a throbbing epicenter of electronic dance music every summer. 2025 is not an exception; the roster announcements for the festival are analyzed with the zeal of a Grammy nomination list. While the comeback of the Swedish House Mafia and nostalgic partnerships excite fans, the lack of major names like Tiësto, Alesso, and Keinemusik has generated interest and controversy. This change speaks to the development of Tomorrowland as well as the direction in which EDM itself is headed.
Where Are Alesso, Keinemusik, and Tale Of Us?
Tiësto, a Tomorrowland essential and trance-turned-mainstage icon, is absent from the bill for the first time in more than ten years. His explosive sets have long been associated with the highlights of the festival, including a historic 2016 mainstage closing. Alesso, whose songs like “Heroes” and “Years” marked the 2010s EDM explosion, is glaringly absent as well.
Although both musicians are supposedly concentrating on studio projects and residency, their absence leaves a hole for those yearning for euphoric singalongs, especially when it comes to Alesso. The Swedish producer has gone radio silence for two months now. He is supposed to play at Aspen on the 14th of January and after that at Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
With Keinemusik (the trio of &ME, Adam Port, and Rampa) and Tale Of Us providing hypnotic, genre-defining sets, the 2023–24 lineups of the event leaned most toward techno and melodic house. Given their recent supremacy, their 2025 omission begs questions.
Tale Of Us at Charles de Gaulle Airport for Cercle
Especially lacking as solo performers are Keinemusik’s members.
Recent mainstages have seen W&W’s high-energy trance, Dom Dolla’s tech-house rhythms, and emerging artist Mau P predominate. Their absence hints Tomorrowland might be experimenting with new sound limits. Mau P was a 2024 standout with his breakthrough songs “Drugs From Amsterdam,” but his emphasis on a debut album and U.S. tours probably drew him elsewhere. W&W’s big-room sound, meanwhile, seems incompatible with the recently stated “throwback” attitude of the festival.
Who’s coming back? Swedish House Mafia are back in the golden era
On the other hand, the Swedish House Mafia (SHM), whose 2018 reunion was a cultural reset, marked the triumphant comeback in sharp contrast. Together with a rare Axwell b2b Steve Angello b2b Sebastian Ingresso throwback set, their headline slot promises a rebirth of the golden age of progressive house. Eric Prydz, whose HOLO performance is still a technological wonder, and emerging performers like Anyma b2b Solomun, combining melodic techno with theatrical flair join them.
Does 2025 represent a new blueprint or a transitional year? The roster suggests trying to accommodate several demographics by balancing legacy artists (SHM, Prydz) with innovative combinations (Dubvision b2b Third Party). But the lack of trendsetting creates holes in the progressive house niche even with MRAK (missing as a solo act despite his collaboration with Anyma).

Sweden’s legacy in electronic music is indisputable from Swedish House Mafia to Avicii‘s genre-defining beats. Now, a fresh partnership between TMPST, Phil Odd, and Slow Ted called Closer shows up as a sparkling complement to this venerable legacy. Combining rich soundscapes with emotional resonance, the song goes beyond conventional dance floor fare to create an audio trip reflecting the most joyful highs of life. Published amid a frenzy of melodic house, Closer is destined to be a summer anthem and evidence of the potency of teamwork.
Fundamentally, Closer lives on the synergy of its producers. Known for ethereal soundscapes, TMPST combines with Slow Ted, whose ambient compositions encourage reflection, and Phil Odd, a beat architect famous for rhythmic accuracy. Their marriage combines several techniques to produce a track with both complexity and accessibility.
The architecture of this tune unfolds like a well-written story. It commences with a simple piano melody set over quiet synths evoking the first light of dawn. Phil Odd’s distinctive drumming shows up by the two-minute mark, creating suspense without overpowering the tune. Though frenetic, the drop retains warmth through Slow Ted’s residual chord progressions and TMPST’s shimmering arpeggios.
Rare in modern electronic music, the track’s structure reflects emotional crescendos, making it equally appropriate for festival stages or solo introspection.

Montréal's Old Port in 2025 once again became a luminous arctic playground for Igloofest, where the chill of the season only amplified the energy of the crowd. Dubbed "the world's iciest festival," Igloofest has grown from a small-scale winter gathering to one of the city's premier electronic music events, drawing tens of thousands each year since its inception back in 2007. But it returned bigger than ever in 2025, and EDM.com was on the ground to experience it. Imagine ravers dressed up in their boldest snow gear, dancing under starlit skies to the grooves of Michael Bibi, Claptone, Dombresky and more. Their sultry sounds sliced through the frigid air like a warm knife through butter. Over in the vibrant Igloovillage hub, attendees found an adult playground complete with selfie stations, a funhouse with mirrors, a slide and Liquid IV ski shots. Meanwhile, food trucks served up Beaver Tails (a must-try), poutine and crepes. It's difficult to recap a festival replete with highlights, but we've narrowed it down to a handful. Read on to discover five things you missed at Igloofest 2025. Yetis everywhere The Yetis reigned supreme at Igloofest. HI-LO and Kasablanca have joined forces for "INFERNO," a new collaboartion that burns with the intensity of a dancefloor anthem in the making. A blend of raw techno rhythm and cinematic melodies arriving on HI-LO's HILOMATIK imprint, the track embodies a relentless pulse counterbalanced with the weight of Kasablanca's poignant songwriting and delivery. Haunting, vocoder-laden vocals rise like a spectral force, crying out with a tone that feels achingly human. "INFERNO" continues a red-hot streak of collaborations for HI-LO, among them recent successes like "Afraid To Live" (with ZHU) and "My Fantasy" (with Maddix). However, the track unlocks a new level of depth by pairing the producer's penchant for raw, industrial sounds with Kasablanca's high-flying synthwave sound. Meanwhile, Kasablanca continue to prove why they’re among the most compelling acts in live today's electronic music scene. The duo has carved out a sound that blends the nostalgic allure of synthwave with the drive of melodic techno. The collaboration arrives a year after Kasablanca’s Micky was forced to confront a life-changing cancer diagnosis, a battle that has greatly shaped the group's creative trajectory in recent times. Knock2’s debut album, nolimit, is not just a collection of tracks, it’s a bold declaration of artistic freedom and an exploration of the possibilities within electronic music. At just 25 years old, the San Diego-born producer has turned a milestone in his career into an immersive experience that blends sound, visuals, and narrative into a cohesive whole. This isn’t simply about dance music; it’s about pushing creative boundaries and inviting listeners into a world that celebrates individuality and reinvention.
The Rise of Knock2: From Local Prodigy to Global Star Knock2’s journey to nolimit has been one of relentless evolution. Originally gaining traction with his breakout track “dashstar*,” he quickly became a name synonymous with energetic sets and a sound that feels both nostalgic and groundbreaking. His 2024 achievements include headlining Ultra Music Festival alongside RL Grime, captivating Coachella crowds as part of ISOKNOCK, and curating the sold-out San Diego 4EVR Festival, have set him apart as more than a producer. He’s a storyteller and curator of moments that linger far beyond the last drop. But Knock2’s success didn’t happen overnight. His sound is rooted in a deep appreciation for electronic music’s past, from the enthralling builds of early 2010s progressive house to the gritty basslines of trap and hip-hop. These influences serve as the foundation for nolimit, an album that connects decades of electronic music history while paving new directions. The Sound of nolimit: A Fusion of Eras and Styles What makes nolimit truly exceptional is its ability to balance complexity with accessibility. Each track feels meticulously crafted yet immediately impactful. For longtime fans of electronic music, the album nods to classic genres while introducing fresh, unexpected twists. For newcomers, it offers a gateway to the genre’s limitless potential. Take “dance or dead,” for example. Featuring MILLI, Thailand’s rising pop phenomenon, the track is a high-energy blend of Miami Bass and hip-hop-inspired production. It’s a prime example of Knock2’s skill in bringing out the best in collaborators, creating songs that feel vibrant and alive. Other standout tracks include “shyne 4 me,” which brings together producer Holly, rapper Warren Hue, and vocalist PIAO in a genre-defying blend of techno, hardstyle, and rap. Meanwhile, “my melody” provides a softer counterpoint, featuring Sophia Gripari’s enchanting vocals set against lush, jungle-inspired rhythms. This balance of intensity and intimacy is what makes the album resonate on multiple levels. The album also carries a sense of cultural homage. Tracks like “hold my hand” and “feel U luv me” reimagine the soaring melodies and infectious hooks of early 2010s electro house, giving them a modern edge that feels rooted in today’s dance floors while honoring the past. A Vision Beyond the Music: World-Building and Visual Identity Where nolimit truly stands out is in its world-building. The album introduces Dash, a pirate radio host in a dystopian world where electronic music has been banned. This narrative isn’t just a gimmick, it’s a lens through which the album’s themes of rebellion, community, and creativity come into focus. The retro-futuristic visuals accompanying the album amplify this concept, blending sleek, modern aesthetics with analog grit. This attention to storytelling reflects a larger trend in electronic music, where artists like Porter Robinson and Madeon have used multimedia to deepen fan engagement. But Knock2’s approach feels uniquely his own, organic and unforced, with every detail supporting the album’s overarching themes. The nolimit Tour: A Live Experience Like No Other With the nolimit tour kicking off in February 2025, Knock2 is bringing his vision to life on stage. Featuring a custom stage design called “The Stack,” the tour promises a sensory experience that goes beyond traditional DJ sets. From Terminal 5 in New York City to Radius in Chicago, the tour will transform iconic venues into spaces where fans can step into the nolimit universe. What makes this tour particularly exciting is its focus on creating an interactive atmosphere. Knock2 has hinted at incorporating elements of Dash’s pirate radio world into the live experience, offering fans a deeper connection to the album’s narrative. This integration of music, visuals, and storytelling is a testament to his ability to think beyond the confines of a traditional artist-fan dynamic. Why nolimit Matters In an industry where trends often dictate direction, Knock2’s nolimit feels refreshingly unbound by expectation. It’s an album that pays respect to electronic music’s roots while daring to envision its future. For listeners, it’s a reminder that dance music is more than just entertainment, it’s a space for self-expression, connection, and transformation. As Knock2’s debut album, nolimit is both a personal milestone and a cultural moment. It’s a project that challenges the listener to think beyond the beats and drops, inviting them into a world where creativity knows no bounds.

I’m feeling excited and energized as we step into the new year. 2024 was a whirlwind of growth and incredible moments, and I’m ready to build on that momentum. As 2025 begins, what excites you most about this next chapter in your musical journey? What excites me most about 2025 is the opportunity to continue growing Haus Glow. The show has already expanded to over 30 stations worldwide, and the feedback from listeners has been truly special and inspiring. Knowing that my music and vision are resonating with people around the globe motivates me to keep evolving and experimenting creatively. I can’t wait to see how Haus Glow connects with even more fans this year and brings them into my world of sound. With the success of Haus Glow and the release of your EP ‘Leaving Origin’ in 2024, are there any follow-up projects or new music on the horizon that fans should be looking out for? Yes, absolutely! I’m thrilled to share that I have a new single ‘Cloudland’ coming out on 2/22, and I’m currently working on more original music ideas that I trust will take shape into something special. Creating music is such a dynamic and evolving process, and I’m excited to see how these ideas come to life. How do you plan to challenge yourself creatively in 2025 to continue evolving as an Artist? This is such a great question! In 2025, I plan to explore new creative tools and approaches in the studio to keep evolving as an artist. I also want to dive deeper into storytelling within my tracks, bringing more narrative and emotion into my music. With Haus Glow, I’m excited to expand the show by curating sets that surprise and inspire my audience, bringing in more guest appearances to introduce fresh sounds and perspectives. The goal is to stay curious and fearless, constantly evolving while staying true to my artistic voice. With Haus Glow growing its reach, how do you envision connecting with your audience this year through the show and beyond? Connecting with my audience is at the heart of everything I do, and with Haus Glow growing its reach, I’m excited to deepen that connection in 2025. Through the show, I aim to curate immersive musical journeys that resonate with listeners on a personal level, sharing both my own tracks and music from artists who inspire me. Beyond Haus Glow, I’m planning more live performances where I can interact directly with fans, bringing the energy and essence of the show to life on stage. What shifts or trends in Electronic Music are inspiring you right now, and how do you see them shaping your work in 2025? Right now, I’m really inspired by the resurgence of melodic and emotional storytelling in Electronic Music. There’s a growing trend of blending organic instruments with cutting-edge electronic production, and that resonates deeply with my own style. I’m particularly excited to explore new ways of integrating my violin into my music, especially as I expand my pedal collection. It’s a perfect way to experiment with sound textures and create even more immersive, innovative experiences in my tracks. How do you strike a balance between staying true to your established sound and pushing its boundaries to keep it fresh and innovative? Striking that balance is both a challenge and a joy. I stay true to my sound by grounding my music in what feels authentic to me—my love for blending the expressive power of the violin with the energy of Electronic Music. At the same time, I’m always exploring new techniques, sounds, and ideas to push those boundaries and keep my music fresh. It’s about staying open to experimentation while holding onto the emotional core of my artistry. For me, growth happens at the intersection of comfort and risk, and that’s where I aim to create. With collaborations playing a key role in your music, is there anyone new you’re hoping to work with or learn from this year? Collaborations are such a powerful way to grow as an artist, and I’m always excited to learn from others’ perspectives. This year, I’d love to work with vocalists and producers who bring unique textures and energy to their music, especially those who experiment with blending genres. Artists who incorporate live instrumentation into Electronic Music really inspire me, so collaborating with someone in that space would be incredible. Ultimately, I’m looking for partnerships that spark creativity and challenge me to think outside the box. Finally, looking beyond your music, are there any personal or artistic goals you’re setting for yourself in 2025 that excite or challenge you? 2025 is about setting personal and artistic goals that allow me to grow on all levels. One goal is to push myself outside of my comfort zone and take on more creative challenges. I also want to cultivate stronger connections with my community, whether that’s through collaborations, events, or meaningful interactions with fans. It’s about finding ways to not just create music but to share the journey in ways that are true to who I am as an artist. With a clear vision and renewed energy, Alfiya Glow is poised to make 2025 a year of growth, creativity, and meaningful connection. Spotify recently made headlines after donating $150,000 to support the 2025 inauguration ceremony of President Donald Trump. This contribution was part of the company’s ongoing efforts to establish a more significant presence in Washington D.C. and further the goals of its platform and creators, especially podcasters. A Spotify spokesperson, in an email stated:
In addition to the donation, Spotify hosted a pre-inauguration brunch attended by prominent podcasters such as Joe Rogan, Ben Shapiro, and Tim Pool, all supporters of Trump. The event highlighted the increasing influence of podcasts, particularly in the political sphere during this election cycle.
What does this mean for Spotify and politics?
Spotify clarified that the donation aligns with its usual political and industry-related activities in major capitals globally. The company emphasized that its business dealings are conducted with all political leaders, regardless of their party affiliation. This donation marks part of a broader trend of tech companies supporting inauguration events, with Apple and Amazon also contributing $1 million each. These major donations to the inauguration ceremony, rumored to be the most expensive in U.S. history, reflect the growing intersection of politics, media, and technology.
Despite ongoing controversy surrounding royalty payments, layoffs, and accusations of “ghost artists,” Spotify remains a key player in the music streaming industry and continues to use these strategic engagements to expand its influence.

Few tracks capture the complexity of falling in and out of love quite like "Bittersweet," the stunning new collaboration from Audien, Shallou and Rosie Darling. Out now via Armada, the track functions as a spiritual successor to Audien's global hit "One Last Dance." Just like that aching anthem, "Bittersweet" explores the lingering emotions that make it hard to let go. A powerful vocal performance from Darling paints an intimate scene of a pivotal moment: two people suspended between friendship and potential romance. Her work here aligns "Bittersweet" as a contemporary love song that refuses simplistic resolutions, confronting head-on the risks of turning a soulmate into a stranger. Each line quavers with gnawing tension atop atmospheric production from Audien and Shallou. Signature elements of both producers are everywhere, like fluttering arpeggios, expansive vocal swells and chords that send chills to your toes. Emerging as a creative force in the Electronic Music scene, Mondingo is an artist who has developed a unique ability to blend emotive storytelling with intricate sonic arrangements. With a background as diverse as his sound—skilled on multiple instruments, crafting heartfelt melodies, and producing immersive soundscapes—Mondingo’s journey has been one of continuous growth and discovery. Now, having recently founded his own label MOODSHINE Records and promising a brand-new album soon, he is stepping into a new chapter. Today, we’re thrilled to be sitting down with Mondingo to discuss his artistic evolution, the vision behind his music, and the milestones that have shaped his career so far. So, join us as we discover the creative world of Mondingo. Hi Mondingo, how’s it going? Hey! Things are going great, thanks for asking. 2025 is shaping up to be an exciting year, and I can’t wait to share all the music I’ve been working on. Can you tell us a bit about yourself and how you got started in music? I’ve always felt music deeply—it’s something that’s fascinated me for as long as I can remember. I started playing piano at the age of 5 and quickly became very all-around, picking up guitar, drums, and eventually singing and writing my own songs. I didn’t have a single, clear identity like, “Oh, Domien, the guitarist” or “the singer from The Voice” (though I did that too, haha!). It wasn’t until I read the description of a five-year master’s program in music production that everything clicked. I thought, “Wow, I need to become a Producer—how handy to have knowledge of so many instruments!” So, I pursued that degree, diving deep into production while keeping my love for both Pop and Electronic Music alive. Every year, I invested all the money I earned from playing live gigs with bands into gear. I was always hunting for inspiring sounds. When I bought my Prophet 6 in 2017, it was like having my first child—I can’t imagine life without it now. It’s still my go-to synth and a core part of my creative process. What inspired the name Mondingo, and does it carry a specific meaning or story? Mondingo – ‘Monde’ (French for world) + ‘go’ reflecting his mission to transport listeners to other places through his music. The name perfectly encapsulates the journey his sound offers: an escape to new worlds, filled with emotion and imagination. How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard your music before? I’d say it’s an organic fusion of acoustic and electronic elements, combining my airy vocals, with good songwriting and intricate production. It feels intimate yet expansive, designed to make you reflect and dance at the same time. You’ve recently launched your label, MOODSHINE Records. What’s the vision behind the label? MOODSHINE Records is a forward-thinking label that blends soulful songwriting with Electronic Music, creating tracks that resonate on both an emotional and sonic level. We focus on artists who craft meaningful, heart-driven music, seamlessly combining organic melodies with electronic elements. We believe that great music starts with great songwriting, and we’re dedicated to nurturing artists who infuse their work with depth, authenticity, and a unique soul. Can you share what influences your music most? Are there specific Artists who inspire you? My music is influenced by the beauty of nature, human connections, and personal experiences. Artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Bonobo, and Ry X inspire me with their ability to tell stories through soundscapes. I’m also drawn to cinematic music that creates a world of its own. How would you say your approach to making music has evolved since you began your career? When I started, it was all about experimentation—finding my voice and sound. Over time, I’ve learned to be more intentional, balancing emotion with technical precision. Collaboration has also been a huge part of my growth, pushing me to step outside my comfort zone and try new things. Are there any milestones in your career that you look back on with particular pride? I think what I’m most proud of is that I’ve truly found my sound. I spent a long time searching—exploring Pop, Commercial, Alternative, and Electronic Music—but now I feel like I’ve discovered my true self. The music I create feels authentic and honest, which is a milestone in itself. Another thing I’m proud of is growing from 0 to 100k monthly listeners on Spotify in just 18 Months. I’ve always struggled with the promotional side of things, but at some point, I flipped a switch in my brain and thought, “You know what? Let’s learn how to do this.” I dove deep into it, picked up some tips and tricks, and… it really works! My audience is starting to find me and my music, which isn’t easy in today’s saturated music world. It’s been an amazing journey. How do you balance the technical side of music production with the emotional storytelling in your tracks? To be honest, I’m all about harmony and melody. For me, the emotion and vibe of a track are deeply rooted in the choice of sounds and creating harmonies with strong melodies. Lyrics are usually the last piece of the puzzle because I believe the feeling of the song should already be clear through its sound. Balancing the technical and emotional sides comes naturally when the music itself tells the story before any words are added. Finally, what are your goals for the next few years? Growing within my community! Have a collab with Ben Böhmer haha and if I may aim high: do a Cercle live session on a beautiful place somewhere on this planet Where do you see yourself and your music in five years? I’d love to see my music making a lasting impact—not just in the electronic scene, but across genres. And play at Savaya in Bali, stay there a whole week with my wife (and maybe kids) and enjoy life. As Mondingo reflects on his journey, his commitment and passion for his craft remain clear: a driving force behind his pursuits and supportiMondingo ng his ambitions for growing his reputation on the Electronic Music scene. With goals to connect deeply with his audience, collaborate with like-minded creators, and take to global stages, his vision for the future places him on an exciting path, cementing him as an Artist to take note of within the genre today. So, keep watching Mondingo’s journey unfold by following him across social media, making sure to stay tuned for future releases, projects and performances. DJ & producer EddyThron has brought back his beloved ATOP series, after a year and a half since the first episode went online. The return of the series goes by the name “ATOP 02: Buenos Aires”, and, like its former instalment, “ATOP 01: Buenos Aires”, takes place in the heart of the capital city of Argentina, which he remembers as the region where his life changed for good.
In searching for variety and testing his own recipes, Eddy, originally a Trance and Progressive Trance producer, launched his Organic House subalias EddyThron pres. Aloft in 2020, looking to experiment in new spaces, with the idea to produce slower music that could evoke the same feelings Trance can. The ATOP series is the original EddyThron pres. Aloft concept in action, bringing soft, soulful melodies and emotions to the most breathtaking locations, high above, hence the name Aloft, and hence the name “ATOP”. These sets are carefully crafted to offer a sublime pairing of touching music and stunning landscapes, supported by aerial takes that show the mute magic of said places.
“Granted, it was a long wait, but it was 100% worth it — I didn’t want to rush the next episode of the series, since I want every second of every set to be as special as possible”, says EddyThron, who returned to the city where ATOP 01 took place, this time from a different balcony. “ATOP is one of my dream projects come true, and so I don’t want to lose any passion about it. I spent the passive portion of the last 18 months compiling a tracklist that felt just right for this. I returned to my beautiful Buenos Aires for a 2-hour-long journey through soft music, melody, feeling, and even a bit of tears towards the end.”
Through what he considers his “most intimate set to date”, Eddy takes listeners through a delicate selection of moving progressions, appreciating a colourful sundown sequence from the ninth floor of a balcony in the neighbourhood of Recoleta. Tracks like Monkey Safari’s ‘Safe’ and M.O.S. & Krasa Rosa’s ‘Odysseya’ set the tone for an intense emotional delivery, accompanied by ad-hoc interpretations of Pop and Indie classics, such as a-ha’s ‘Take On Me’, Bent’s ‘Always’, and London Grammar’s ‘Strong’.
Eddy comments, “A highlight of the set for me is when I played my track ‘Callao & Santa Fe’, and we managed to fly the drone exactly to that one intersection of the city which inspired it: Where Santa Fe Avenue meets Callao Avenue. Bucket list, full-circle moment right there” (see image below). Apart from the single, he played a couple of his own tracks and edits, in true ATOP fashion.
Callao & Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
“ATOP 02: Buenos Aires” is meant to be not only listened to, but watched and enjoyed as if you’d been there. It aims to be proof that emotions live unaffected by time and space, and that the special moments of one person, might turn into a pleasant moment of another one.
You can stream EddyThron pres. Aloft’s latest ATOP set by clicking here, or referring to the embedded video below. Take a look at the tracklist following the video.

Trance is more alive than ever, if I’m allowed to say that myself. Wink wink.
Happy Friday everyone! This is our time of the week to enjoy a plethora of new music, coming from all angles and corners of the Dance industry. In particular, I’d love to turn your attention to Trance, a long-lasting genre whose latest contribution has come today from Amon Vision: Paul Skelton and Andy Newtz have collaborated on a tremendous single, ‘Angel‘.
The Australian imprint brings this little treasure to stores today, and it embodies every little thing that makes Trance, well, Trance. Let me mention a few: emotion, power, uplifting melodies, levitation-inducing textures, soft voices. Need I say more? In a world of proven formulas and soulless chart-toppers, pieces like this one stand out.
‘Angel’
The single sees the clash of two huge artists. On one hand, we’ve got Paul Skelton, a man who’s become synonymous with properly-produced Trance. He can do it all, from the most uplifting of melodies to the darkest of smoke-filled-room beats. On the other hand, we’ve got former Alpha Duo member Andy Newtz, a brass player turned Trance producer who’s also had his time to shine atop the largest labels.
Andy Newtz.
‘Angel‘, their collaboration, is astonishingly good. I know this sounds like cheap cheese, but I mean it when I say, this track is a best of the year contender. It marries the power of the Uplifting Trance beats with the melody and emotion so core to the genre, and it balances both quite beautifully.
To top it all, cue Tara Greene, who lent her angelic voice to touch upon lyrics of tribute and melancholic remembering. ‘Angel’ pays homage to those who have touched our lives and left an everlasting impact, offering comfort through its raw emotion and sincerity. And if you’re not cutting onions already, let the piano do the job for you.
Tara Greene.
In so many ways I can say this track is truly very good, and it embodies what I personally believe Trance is all about: a piece of music that is able to move you to the edge of tears, move your soul internally, and move your body externally. Trance makes you feel alive, and so does Skelton’s, Newtz’s and Greene’s latest.

We sat down with the authors of the song of the moment, for a lovely chat.
Although we covered ‘Wacuka‘ when it was released a fortnight ago, we still can’t get enough of the infectious energy of the latest collaboration between German synth maestro AVAION and Kenyan sensation Sofiya Nzau. Chances are, you’ve heard it at the very least as background music for a reel on social media, because it properly took the Internet by storm. I can see why.
AVAION and Sofiya’s work is a standout piece both in instrumental composition and lyrical weight. It first strikes you as the different warm textures and atmospheres set the stage, and they already have a different presence than your standard track. And then comes Sofiya and her — by now — instantly recognisable delivery.
And so, it only felt fitting to have a chat with the minds behind ‘Wacuka’, not only to learn a bit more about the song, but also about themselves. So lay back, relax, and read on, as we dive deep into the song of the season by talking with AVAION and Sofiya Nzau.
The Interview
‘Wacuka’ is everywhere at the moment and we’re loving the sound of it! AVAION, what do you think it is about this particular track that seems to resonate so well with people?
AVAION: I think it’s the perfect combination between the Afro House vibe of Sofiya and my dreamy, melancholic style. I think the production is something new and fresh and also the synth lead that I made for the drop is something that people have never heard before. That drop is such a moment live!
Sofiya, you’ve collaborated with some huge names! What inspired you to send this particular topline to AVAION?
Sofiya: AVAION’s music has such a raw emotional quality, and I felt ‘Wacuka”s topline would resonate with his style. The melody and story carried a unique energy that I knew he could elevate to something extraordinary.
At what point during the song’s creation did you guys feel like you had a hit on your hands?
Credit: Thilo Lehnert
AVAION: I got the vocals from Sofiya and started working on the song and everything was fitting perfectly. I finished the production of the song after just two days and I knew that this was something special.
Sofiya: When AVAION sent the first mix with my vocals, it just clicked. The blend of emotion and energy felt electric—we knew it was special.
What would you say is the most unexpected thing/gift/lesson that came to you thanks to ‘Wacuka’?
AVAION: It’s my first time collaborating with an artist that speaks a different language than German or English so I needed to trust Sofiya and judge more by the vibe and the feel of the vocal lines because I couldn’t understand the meaning of the lyrics but I felt it by listening. That’s a powerful experience.
Sofiya: The most unexpected gift was seeing how deeply the song resonated across cultures. It reminded me that music truly has no borders.
Do you ever feel tired / burnt out regarding music production/writing? And if so, how have you been able to overcome it?
AVAION: Of course, there are some days where you just feel a bit drained and without any motivation but my best solution for that is not stressing about it and just do something completely different for a few days like more sports or going out with friends.
Sofiya: Absolutely—it happens to everyone. When I feel burnt out, I step away, connect with nature, or spend time with family. Taking breaks and revisiting my roots always reignites my creativity.
AVAION, you’ve recently come back from your For The Vibes fall tour. Not only does the name of the tour itself reflect it, but also the videos of the actual shows portray something I personally feel we’ve lost in the scene lately: being present, in that moment, enjoying. How have you been able to achieve this connection between the crowd and the music? We definitely need more crowds like yours!
AVAION: I’m just super happy that my music reaches the right people. At all the shows from my tour everything was just perfect. All the people enjoyed themselves and felt the moment. It was a perfect mix of energy, melancholic vibes and pure love.
Sofiya, you’ve described ‘Wacuka’ as a story of “the tension between choosing to follow tradition and expressing individuality”, narrated from both “the struggle and the hope”. Would you mind giving us a bit of an insight into the idea and what it represents for your background? We’d love to know!
Sofiya: ‘Wacuka’ is deeply personal—it’s about balancing cultural expectations with personal freedom. Growing up in Kenya, tradition was a big part of my life, but so was the desire to carve my own path. The song captures that push and pull—the struggle of honoring where you come from while embracing who you’re becoming. It’s a tribute to resilience, hope, and finding harmony between the two.
Suppose there’s someone in our audience, aspiring producer or vocalist in the making, who looks up to you and your work. What would be the one piece of advice you’d give them in order to find success through music?
AVAION: Never give up.
Sofiya: Stay authentic. Your uniqueness is your greatest strength, so let your music reflect who you are. Be patient, work hard, and never stop learning—success will follow when you stay true to yourself.
Final Words
Thank you so so much to both AVAION and Sofiya for being so insightful and open with your answers. I, selfishly (yet also shamelessly) take interview instances as opportunities to learn from the people I’m speaking to, and this is no exception. There’s something so special, so unique — perhaps the word I’m looking for is “human” — about the call and response you get from an interview.
And if there’s something I will always thank music for, is giving people the chance to interact based entirely on a chunk of noise with sense. And while ‘Wacuka’ keeps rising like foam in a poorly poured beer — currently at 4.2 million streams on Spotify —, we wish both artists the best possible year, and that the success of this very track only multiplies their momentum in the industry.

Arodes – Kidz (CamelPhat Remix)
The most-played track in Tulum for 2025 is none other than Arodes’ hit single, “Kidz”. Now, the Grammy-nominated duo CamelPhat have elevated the track even further with an uptempo melodic house rework. Following a release-heavy 2024, CamelPhat is kicking off the new year strong with their take on one of dance music’s catchiest vocal records.
Meera (NO) – No Title Yet
Out now on Crib Records, “No Title Yet” by Meera (NO) was one of the most supported afro house tracks in 2024. With support from Black Coffee, CamelPhat, Avangart Tabldot, and more, the track boasts driving rhythms and infectious synths that ignite the dancefloor. An emerging artist from Norway, Meera is a rising star to watch as she continues to expand her impressive catalog.
HI-LO & Kasablanca – INFERNO
“INFERNO” has roots back to CRSSD Fall at San Diego’s Waterfront Park, where HI-LO delivered a standout closing set at City Steps. At the time, the track was an unidentified ID, but its unmistakable blend of HI-LO and Kasablanca’s signature sounds, combined with Kasablanca’s emotive vocals, cemented it as one of Dancing Astronaut’s most-anticipated IDs of 2025.
Layton Giordani, Linney & Sarah de Warren – Act of God
Another entry on Dancing Astronaut‘s most-anticipated IDs of 2025, “Act of God” has been making waves in the house and techno scene. First heard during John Summit and Dom Dolla’s Everything Always set at The Gorge in Washington, it features Layton Giordani’s sharp production paired with stunning toplines from Linney and Sarah de Warren on the Experts Only-backed track.
MOIO – Moments (The Chainsmokers Remix)
The Chainsmokers continue to embrace their SoundCloud remix roots with a progressive house reimagining of MOIO’s “Moments”. This remix follows their takes on Lola Young’s “Messy” and Gigi Perez’s “Sailor Song”, the latter done alongside TWINSICK. In a recent Instagram post, they stated, “Too soon to say, but… it feels like progressive house is coming back.” Their remix of “Moments” further solidifies that claim, giving fans a fresh dose of nostalgic yet forward-thinking sounds.
