[EDM.com] GRiZ Returning to Music After Indefinite Hiatus: "We Are So Back"

GRiZ has officially ended an indefinite hiatus with an unexpected announcement delivered via rural Americana. The electronic music superstar released a video today showing himself commandeering a tractor across open farmland before declaring he's "back to work."
The cryptic clip concludes with an aerial reveal of hay bales arranged to display the dates "10/10/25 - 10/12/25," suggesting a three-day event that fans are already speculating could be a new GRiZ-curated music festival. While details remain under wraps, the October 2025 timeframe gives fans ample time to register for updates and plan ahead.
The video also features a preview of a new dubstep track with a fitting pre-drop vocal: "I'm back." Beloved for his funk-infused bass, saxophone prowess and high-energy live shows, GRiZ in June 2023 announced a hiatus from music, citing a desire to travel and spend more time with loved ones.
"Life is really good, and often I make myself too busy to see just where I am and how far the project has come," he said at the time. "I'm following my gut instincts so for now, I’m not going to put a hard time limit length on the break... I'm excited to take time to travel, find fresh inspiration, write music and to be in a new headspace."

Dozens of artists, technologists, scientists, visionaries, and radical thinkers from the fields of audiovisual arts, music, engineering, quantum computing, and interface design will present the new ways humans and AI are interacting, and explore the transformative potential of the technology.
 
Sónar+D 2025 presents more than a hundred activities designed to inspire, train, and connect creators, professionals from various disciplines, and the general public, providing a dynamic platform for the fostering and projection of local and international talent.
 

The program is structured around three thematic axes: ‘AI + Creativity’, which examines how the tools and approaches of AI are affecting artistic production; ‘Futuring the Creative Industries’, a space to reflect on changes and opportunities in the sector; and ‘Worlds to Come’, an exploration of emerging scenarios that will define the relationships between technology, culture, and society.
 
Interactive forums, round tables, master classes, performative conferences, workshops, multidisciplinary shows, and an exhibition area with dozens of projects, will open the door to discovering the future before it becomes the present.

Regardless of genre, she sculpts each track with an instinctive understanding of movement, both physical and emotional. What began as an album interrupted by personal hardship now stands as a reflection of her ability to transform pain into deeper meaning.
Eternal Reverie begins with "Eternal," a delicate yet captivating overture that sets the stage for a setting where deep house grooves, ethereal synths and organic instrumentation collide effortlessly. But it's the album's disco sensibilities that shine strongest on tracks like "Enjoy Your Life," a plucky anthem that pulses with warm basslines and trippy synth flourishes. The song's title reads like a directive, and its breezy, funk-laced edge makes it impossible not to obey.
TOKiMONSTA paints across the sonic spectrum with tracks like "Corazón / Death by Disco, Pt. 2," which picks up the thread from her 2023 track "Death By Disco" by injecting a Latin-tinged undercurrent into its framework. One of the album’s most intriguing moments comes with "Switch It," a track that, true to its name, flips expectations by embracing a hip-house sound.
Then there’s "All In," a shining example of slow-burning soul. With AMAKA’s vocals, it’s the kind of song that lingers as TOKiMONSTA strips back the frenetic energy of club cuts in favor of something richer—an intimate, heart-on-sleeve moment where every note breathes.

[EDM House Network] Hardwell on His Return to Siam Songkran, 10 Years of ‘United We Are’, and the Future of His Sound

As Hardwell gets ready to return to play at Siam Songkran in Bangkok, Thailand, we were lucky enough to get insights on what makes this festival special and his deep connection to the country’s dance scene. With the 10th anniversary of United We Are and 1,000 releases on Revealed Recordings, he reflects on his evolution as an artist while continuing to evolve his sold. In this exclusive interview, Hardwell shares his thoughts on revisiting big room at Tomorrowland, his approach to innovation and what fans can expect from him both on and off the stage.
You’re returning to play at Siam Songkran this year, having performed at the festival back in 2023. What does it feel like coming back to this event, and how does it compare to other festivals you’ve played?
Thailand has such a passionate dance music crowd and playing there is always special. What makes this festival unique is the whole Songkran celebration – it’s not just a music festival; it’s a cultural experience. The energy at Siam Songkran is unreal and it all comes together in a way that’s so unique.
Thailand has always been a special place for dance music, and you’ve performed here multiple times throughout your career. What’s your connection to the country and its dance music scene? Also, have you ever experienced Songkran outside of performing?
Every time I come here, I feel the love from the fans. The scene is thriving, and the passion for dance music continues to grow! As for Songkran, I’ve experienced a bit of it outside of performing, and it’s absolutely crazy in the best way. I’m excited to be returning!
Last year at Tomorrowland, you surprised fans with a throwback set at the Freedom Stage, bringing back iconic big room classics. What was the thought process behind crafting that set, and how did it feel revisiting that era of your music in a festival setting?
That set was all about celebrating an era that meant so much to me and to the fans. Big room had such a massive impact on the festival scene, and I wanted to take everyone on a trip down memory lane. I even put it to fans on social media to find out what kind of set they wanted to hear, and that made the set even more special. It was such an emotional set, I loved every minute of it and it reminded me why I fell in love with this music in the first place.
Over the past few years, you’ve shifted your style, moving from big room into more techno-driven sounds. Do you see yourself continuing in that direction, or is there another evolution on the horizon? What excites you most about the next phase of your career?
For me, evolution is everything. I never want to stay in one place musically. Coming back with REBELS NEVER DIE was a way for me to reset and push my sound into a new direction. Right now, I’m still loving that harder, more techno-infused energy, but who knows? The beauty of music is that it’s always changing. I just follow my instincts and let creativity take the lead.
From launching Revealed Recordings to your work in radio and your involvement in new music technologies, you’ve always pushed boundaries beyond just DJing. Are there any upcoming projects, collaborations, or new ventures outside of music production that fans should keep an eye on?
Revealed is still a core focus for me. We’re constantly discovering new talent and evolving as a label. This year also marks our 15th year so we’ve big plans for the months ahead. I’m also really interested in the future of music tech, AI, and how we can use new tools to enhance creativity. There are some exciting projects in the works, but unfortunately I don’t want to say anything just yet. 
Your album Rebels Never Die marked a shift towards a big room techno sound. What influenced this evolution, and how have your fans responded to this new direction?
Ultimately that album is about freedom – musically and creatively. After my break, I wanted to return with something that felt 100% true to where I was at. Big room was always my foundation, but I wanted to bring in darker, more driving elements. The response ever since has been nothing but incredible. It’s amazing to see fans, and the scene as a whole, embrace the evolution and vibe with the new sound.
Many fans might be surprised to learn about your voice acting roles, such as voicing The Flying Dutchman in the Dutch version of SpongeBob SquarePants. How did these opportunities come about, and do you have plans for more voice acting in the future?
Yeah, that was a fun experience. I’ve done voice work in the past, previously voicing Mel the Pug in ‘Secret Life of Pets’. It sort of came out of nowhere but was one of those unique opportunities that I had to say yes to. I love movies, and its nice stepping out of my world for a moment and trying a different project. If the right opportunity comes up, I’d be down to do more!

As we celebrate the 10th anniversary of your debut album United We Are, how do you feel your music and personal journey have evolved since its release?
That album was such a huge moment for me. It was my first full-length project, and looking back, I can see how much I’ve grown both as an artist and as a person. My sound has evolved significantly since then, my approach to music too has changed, but that album will always be special because it represents a chapter in my story.
Revealed Recordings recently celebrated its 1,000th release. Looking back, what are some of the most memorable moments or releases from your label’s history?
When I started Revealed, I wanted a home for my own music and also to be a platform to support fresh talent, and now it’s grown into this massive family. Some of the biggest moments? We’ve had some amazing hits on the label over the years which is incredible and hitting our 1,000th release was a really insane one for me. Hosting arenas at festivals like Creamfields, Ultra and Tomorrowland are standout moments, as is helping support incredible talent like Dannic, Dyro, Maddix, KAAZE and many other artists early in their careers. I’m super proud of everything we’ve built and how the label continues to evolve.

The bird call has sounded and the wait is over: after a two-year hiatus, Dirtybird CampINN is soaring back to Orlando to celebrate the label's 20th anniversary in true feathered fashion.
The Florida flock will reunite at a brand-new location, the DoubleTree by Hilton at the Entrance to Universal Orlando, for a weekend in house music paradise. Dirtybird in 2025 is teaming up with our friends at Home Bass to deliver a bigger and better variety of programming while staying true to its quirky, summer-camp style ethos.

Taking place over Labor Day Weekend, the experience will feature onsite dining, an arcade, a pool and much more. The fest's color-wars games will feature three competitive flocks: Flamingo Fam (pink), Gator Gang (green) and Scuba Squad (blue). Friendly rivalries, vacation vibes and a stacked lineup of talent will make for an unforgettable weekend.

[EDM.com] Calvin Harris Steps Back Into Vocal Booth for New Single, "Smoke The Pain Away"

A Calvin Harris vocal performance doesn't come around often, but when it does it's a moment worth savoring.
The chart-topping producer, who famously lent his own vocals to his 2011 classic "Feel So Close" before largely stepping away from singing, has announced a brand-new single called "Smoke The Pain Away" with his familiar voice leading the cut.
Posted as an extended teaser on his Instagram, Harris' latest preview incorporates earthy harmonica riffs, twangy plucked strings and punchy, thumping kicks. Stylistically, "Smoke The Pain Away" taps into the growing intersection of country and electronic music, a tried-and-true crossover fusion that has seemingly regained major traction in recent history.
Alongside the music, Harris additionally showcased a refreshed aesthetic, donning long, windswept hair that adds to the rugged, free-spirited character of his latest work. Whether the look is a nod to the folk-infused elements of the track or simply a new chapter in his artistic journey remains to be seen, but if past is prologue, wherever Harris goes, the charts tend to follow.

[EDMTunes] ALLKNIGHT Lifts Debut Solo Single ‘Home’ From Upcoming EP, Out On Monstercat Silk

Our favourite vocalist just went all-in on production as well — and we can’t get enough of it.
Towards the later stages of last year, we had the chance to speak with ALLKNIGHT, Jodie Knight’s Dance-focused alias. Well, it’s no secret she’d been having an outstanding career up to that point, writing and performing vocals for the likes of Marsh, Paraleven, Deeparture, and many more. But she’s taken her career up a notch today.
Just like she told us back then, she was working on producing music that was 100% hers, from start to finish, from kick to toplines. And of course we were over the moon to hear this back then but, I’ve got to be frank: time goes by without you even noticing. And in the blink of an eye we’re in March 2025 now, and we’ve been gifted the first of these ALLKNIGHT-only goodies: ‘Home‘.
‘Home’
I’m lost in the sound. I’m a sucker for everything Organic House and Melodic, warm and those songs which feel like a soft caress to the heart (cue my friend Rama again, this one’s also your fault), so you’d bet when you put a Jodie vocal over a delicate song like this one, I’m bound to binge-listen.
I know this may sound obvious up to a point, but a rare feat that this song showcases with beautiful grace is that the instrumental and the vocals fit like a puzzle. Of course there’s magic in an instrumentalist musician collaborating with a vocalist to fit songs to their track, but when both parts come from the same mind, it’s an entirely different story. Every element here fits like a glove. Every element has its place: guitars, plucks, pads, even the reverb applied to the vocals has its own place to shine.
If this is how ALLKNIGHT sounds towards the future, I’m so ready.

The electronic music industry has long been a space of creativity, connection, and joy, but behind the beats and glowing stages lies a deeper reality that calls for attention. From the mental health struggles of artists to the risks faced by festival attendees, the industry is confronting issues that require thoughtful, collective solutions. By addressing these challenges openly, the community can create a future where the music remains vibrant and the people behind it stay safe and supported.
The Hidden Struggles of Artists
The tragic passing of Avicii in 2018 was a wake-up call for the electronic music world, shining a light on the relentless pressures faced by artists. His documentaries, True Stories and I’m Tim, revealed the darker side of a life that, to outsiders, often appeared glamorous. The constant demand for performances, the need to deliver new hits, and the weight of living up to global expectations often created a cycle of exhaustion. Avicii’s struggles were not isolated, but a reflection of systemic issues that plague many artists in the industry.
Armin van Buuren, a legendary figure in electronic music, has also spoken openly about the challenges of balancing life in the spotlight. He shared how the relentless pace of touring began to affect his health and personal relationships. Armin emphasized the importance of taking breaks, spending time with family, and recognizing that mental health should take precedence over professional obligations. His candid remarks highlight the ongoing need for change, as artists often feel compelled to prioritize their careers over their well-being.
One of the critical barriers is the fear of losing momentum. Many artists worry that stepping away from the stage or studio might alienate their fans or jeopardize their career. The industry must work to create an environment where artists feel supported in prioritizing self-care without fear of judgment or professional consequences.
Rethinking Safety for Festivalgoers
Festivals are spaces of connection, creativity, and freedom, but they also bring challenges that cannot be ignored. Substance use, dehydration, and overexertion are common issues that can escalate into serious risks if left unchecked. The industry’s response has gradually shifted toward harm reduction and education, which are proving to be more effective than punitive measures.
Marlon Hoffstadt, after his Australian festival tour, spoke about the importance of fostering a culture where attendees look out for one another. This mindset reflects a broader shift in the electronic music community toward shared responsibility for safety. Leading festivals like Boomtown in the UK and Shambhala in Canada have pioneered on-site harm reduction teams, free hydration points, and educational programs to promote safer behavior. These measures are essential not only for mitigating risks but also for creating an environment where festivalgoers feel empowered to make informed choices.

The 2025 lineup of Secret Dreams may seem like a surreal fantasy, but there's no need to pinch yourself—this dream is a reality.
The three-day camping event returns to Ohio's Legend Valley with an impressive lineup featuring Pretty Lights, Tipper, Shpongle, Opiuo and Lotus, each of whom will each deliver two unique sets during the weekend. Of The Trees, Daily Bread, Ternion Sound and other heavy-hitters will help ensure an unforgettable experience.
Among the highlights of the 2025 lineup are EPROM, Yheti x Lespecial: Liminoid, a takeover by Alix Perez's 1985, and two unique performances from Pretty Lights: "Horizon Sprinter" and "The Prismatic Fleet."
The latter has sent fans into a frenzy of speculation, especially after Pretty Lights' recent announcement that a late-June festival in Colorado will mark the band's final appearance of the summer as frontman Derek Vincent Smith and his partner are expecting a baby.

[EDMTunes] Analyst Predicts Foldable iPhone Coming in the Future

It seems like the Apple vs Samsung saga continues. This time, it comes as a new Apple foldable IPhone that can give the Galaxy Z Fold 6 a run for its coin. Analyst Ming Chi Kuo released a lengthy report on a blog, announcing his prediction for the new device, including pricing, features, and release.
New Foldable IPhone
The TF International Securities’ analyst has been a long time predictor of Apple trends. Through connections he has in the industry supply chain, he has offered reliable and mostly accurate predictions of the Tech company giant. This time, his report showcases a brand new IPhone model that’s foldable, offering a book style device that can turn into a mini tablet. Kuo shares that the price would range between $2000 to $2500. This isn’t unrealistic, as Samsung’s Galazy Z Fold Z sells for about $1800. And we also know the customer base of Apple will spend a good amount of money due to brand loyalty.
This foldable design will also be AI-driven, following the steps of Google and Samsung. This will allow for multiple functions to be handled at the same time manually and through the AI system. Moreover, Kuo estimates for the internal screen to be a crease-free, 7.8 inch display. In effect, making it smaller than the current IPad Mini 7. When closed, the the IPhone could measure about 9mm. This would make it thicker than the current IPhone 16 and its Pro version by less than 2mms. Naturally, the thickness halves when the IPhone opens up, making it thinner than the 2024 IPad Pro, and thinner than the predicted, upcoming IPhone 17 Air.
There is a chance that due to the thinness of the device, other convenient elements such as Face ID will be eliminated. Instead, there is a chance that Touch ID will make a return, similar to older Apple models. Moireover, the design could potentially have a titanium alloy and hih density battery. Lastly, the phone would have a two-lense rear camera and one lense front camera, available in both folded and opened states.
Release
With an expected release in Late 2026/ Early 2027, the analyst explains design specifics should be done halfway through this year, to start production as soon as possible. However, given the complexity of its design, mass production will be difficult. Therefore, the volume of production will be significantly smaller than precursor devices. Nevertheless, if successful, the second generation of Apple foldable Iphones could increase mass production.
