Often it seems with spiritual music, artist either go one hundred percent electronic or one hundred percent analog, forgetting that these types of sound can work together. More producers and artists are working to meld the two music worlds, such as Bjork, companies like Nu Meditation Music on YouTube who use binaural beats and solfeggio tones for their meditation music or our meditative D&B friends across the pond, Breathe & Bass Music, but a lot of that still starts in electronica and brings in instrumental samples, performers, et all, later. Yuval Ron, an award-winning composer and producer born in Israel and now based in Los Angeles, seems to do the opposite with his work.
With his latest Sacred Spiral album, produced with Dr. Richard Gold of Metta Mindfulness Records, Yuval Ron composed for the host of ensemble musicians first, as one might score a symphony piece, and created the vocal melodies for acclaimed vocalist Úyanga Bold. Bold, whose idea it was to structure the around the seven chakras, or energy centers in the body. A celebrated artist in her own right, Bold’s incredible vocals have been featured in major motion pictures like the live-action Mulan and Waiting for the Barbarians with Johnny Depp and Robert Pattinson as well as blockbuster video games like the recently released Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and the highly lauded Ghost of Tsushima – Legends.
In fact all the artists featured on Sacred Spiral are incredibly accomplished, carrying out Yuval Ron’s scoring and Úyanga Bold’s concept with precision and beautiful emotion. The best summary on the project is from Úyanga Bold herself:
So where’s the electronic bit? In fact, to the trained EDM or sound design ear, it should be quite clear upon listening to Sacred Spiral. A grounding line of drone hooks the listener in, connects vox to score to sound design to heart to energy to meditative space. It’s become an important element in a lot of meditative music, this connection in the sound design, and Yuval Ron’s idea to make it the foundation but also the background of a larger-than-life composed meditative score seems to create even more connection in the listener.
As his composition and sound design are so novel both from both sides of the analog/digital divide, we had a few questions for Yuval Ron about how he put it all together and his thoughts about the end result. Even if you’re not interested in meditation, there’s some great tech tips here as well. Listen and read to experience the Sacred Spiral of Yuval Ron’s creation.
What was the biggest inspiration for you to create this album?
It was the idea of having vocalist Úyanga Bold invoke the healing elements of the chakras, and the associated
emotions that come with it.
Why did you want to bring the electronic drone elements into this album? Did the drone help you connect or resonate with you in a certain way that helped you create the vocal melodies?
The drone is an effective element which brings people out of the constant buzz of their lives. It
cultivates inner peace and stability, and has a hint of the energy of oneness. I like to create my drone in a
way which ebbs and flows in itself, so that it is not a mechanical one-dimensional tone. This way, the
listener can feel the flow of the drone and that helps them move into a meditative state of mind.
The drone line that’s present throughout the album seems to be set at a certain frequency. Was this a
conscious decision?
Yes, and I’m really glad you noticed that. Each track, including the drone, is set to a different frequency
based on the tonal frequency of the seven chakras. This is because each of these frequencies matches a
chakra and releases a specific healing quality which promotes the flow of the chakra system
Were the vocals done with those frequencies in mind as well?
I wrote the vocal lines for Úyanga and then she added her own own interpretation in the singing style, the depth and colors of each track. Some tracks in the album are influenced by the Middle East, while some are more influenced by East Asian sounds. She tailored her voice to suit the style of each track, making it a more nuanced performance.
How did post-production and sound design work here with all the different musicians and moving parts? What did the musicians have to work with that you’d already produced and what elements did you add in post?
All drones and instrumental music were recorded prior with the master musicians. So when Úyanga came into the studio to record, the tracks had already been completely recorded and produced. She came in to layer in her voice on top of the finished tracks. As for the instruments, the musicians played the composed musical notes, all except for the gongs, which were improvised.
To that end of all the moving parts, how was it to put the album together and insure continuity? Flow
is clearly very important to this album.
A lot of listening decisions were made by sitting in my studio and listening to the flow of the music. It wasn’t pre-planned because it’s not organic enough especially for this genre of music. I spent a lot of time meditating to the music, listening to the music and experimenting with different orders of the sections to feel which is the most effective. When I listen, I pay attention to the musical flow within the track, not just the order of the chakras.
How did you think the electronic elements helped contribute to the personal/spiritual journey you
wanted listeners to go on with you in this album?
The electronic elements are there to create a background, or rather, a solid foundation. This allows room for the live musicians to truly shine and give the music their interesting flavors. I make sure that the electronic elements are there for the ambience and atmosphere, while putting in different tones and compositional colors to
create textural interest. This helps the listeners transcend reality into a meditative state of consciousness. Some of the electronic elements support this spiritual journey, but in my opinion the live musicians are the ones who transports listeners to a different realm.
A lot of people in the spiritual community (especially in the US) may feel that electronica doesn’t belong in spiritual music, because it’s not “organic.” Artists like Bjork don’t agree. Having now done this album with the drone and other electronic sound design, how do you feel these two can fit together? What are the benefits?
About 95% of my music has live acoustic elements, and they are always heavily featured. So, to me it’s more about layering electronica and the organic. I want the electronica to be in the background as a grounding element that listeners can anchor to, and when the organic music comes in, it encourages the listeners to breathe with the musicians. In conclusion, the electronica in my music is not as heavily featured as the live instruments because they just don’t breathe like live musicians do. The reason why I use electronic in this “anchor” is because it acts as a complimentary and supportive element, while adding depth to the music. You may also hear pulses weaving in and out the tracks, which are also electronic, but buried in the sound.
What’s coming up next for each of you? Releases, performances, more livestreams or partnerships?
I’m focusing on releasing a special kids’ meditation album, which features music and guided meditation written by Montessori educator Sophie Timers. It’s a really fun album, and we’re going to release it in various languages: English, Mandarin, Spanish, French, and Hebrew. In June I will be teaching at a sacred music retreat in Minnesota at St. John’s University. There will be live Oud music, chanting meditations, storytelling, and poetry.
Sacred Spiral is out now on Metta Mindfulness Records and can be streamed or purchased on multiple platforms by clicking here.

As much as I consider drum & bass my favorite genre, I’m ashamed to say I’ve never listened to a Boxplot song until now. I’ve seen his name bounce around in DnB circles here and there, but earlier this morning, a close friend who knows my tastes very well sent me Boxplot’s debut album, Here & Now, and said, “Please listen. 10/10.”
Knowing his own tastes, and knowing that he knows mine, I knew the recommendation didn’t come lightly. The initial shock at seeing the opening song, “Human Again,” was eleven minutes long was very quickly overshadowed by the pure joy I felt listening through the journey written into the sounds. But even then, I was a bit worried that after such a long and emotional song, the all-too-common album fatigue would set in a little early. And around tracks two and three, it did a bit.
“My only gripe is that like, I’m already getting fatigue listening because it feels like it’s been 30 mins lol,” I wrote to my friend. “But I’m going to keep listening.”
Thankfully, track #5 is an interlude, actually titled “Interlude (Reset),” that presented the perfect amount of rest before one of the best songs on the album, “Heartstrings” with Feint. I exclaimed at the top of my lungs in the group chat, or whatever the equivalent is via text when the song came on. Feint has been on my radar since his earliest Monstercat days and the combination with Boxplot is nothing short of a 3-star Michelin meal.
As if it couldn’t get any better, it’s followed up by “Only Us,” featuring vocals from the absolute legend that is Reija Lee. Another friend in our group chat said, “I haven’t seen you this hyped in a while, Matt.” And it’s true, I haven’t been. A lot of EDM these days feels like maintaining the status quo, finding the next TikTok hit, or just the next festival banger. As if the art of songwriting and putting your feelings into song had been lost to the all-powerful algorithm.
Here & Now breaks that mold and injects personal emotion into a very powerful package.
“I Think Too Much” and “Speaking In Tongues” are again two very powerful songs that bring back the “big synth DnB” sounds of 2008-2011, said my friend — think Cross The Line by Camo & Krooked or Supersized by Danny Byrd.
After another interlude, “Leaving” takes us on a beautiful instrumental journey á la Holy Fuck! or El Ten Eleven from 2005.
Finally, “Welcome Home.”
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that so many of the songs I love deal with the concept of home, like “Home” by ShockOne and Reija Lee, “Home” by Madeon, hell, even “Home” by Ed Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros. There’s a sense of grounding, of peace that you are home, where you are meant to be.
It’s not a stretch to say this album is one of my favorites of the year so far and could very well end up in my top 5 or 3 by the end of the year. It’s something that I’ll be listening to a lot more as the year goes on to soak up every bit of emotion and influence that I can.

Today, Alison Wonderland returns with her third studio album, Loner, following her latest Awake (2018) and debut album Run (2015). The 12-track album is Alison’s most soul-bearing album yet, and unique in that it’s all her. Setting itself apart from her two previous albums, there are no collaborations on Loner, whereas past albums have featured the likes of Trippie Redd, Slumberjack, GANZ, and Lido.
Throughout her career, Alison has been a courageous advocate for mental health discussions and honest about her own struggles with depression. Staying true to her message with Loner, she writes with a captivating new assuredness in the light that comes after the storm.
“It’s the most positive, hopeful album I have ever written,” she says. “It acknowledges the darkness but creates its own euphoria through it.”
Of the 12 tracks, half were previously released as singles, including hits “Fuck U Love U” and “Bad Things.” Among the new singles, there are quite a few surprises such as the dark “Eyes Closed” with elements of neurofunk drum & bass, or the synth-laden pop song, “Cocaine.”

After decade-spanning career, Diamanté Anthony Blackmon, otherwise known as Carnage, has announced his retirement from music and touring. He will embark on a 5 show grand finale tour known as “Carnage & Rare Presents: Thank You.” These shows will be the last time fans can experience a CARNAGE performance.
To bring the evolution of Carnage around in full circle, he is heading back to the venues and cities that catapulted his career over a decade ago. Tickets go on sale this Monday, details can be found on ThankYouCarnage.com
Taking over Avalon (LA) for the last time on May 26th, Carnage will pay homage to the west coast club that gave him his first headline booking. On May 28th, Carnage will return to Webster Hall (NY), the venue that hosted his first sold-out show in New York, with celebrity guest appearances from acts like Tiësto dating back as far as 2013. On May 30th, Carnage wraps up his North American existence at Stereo Live Houston for his true final performance. A very special market and venue for Carnage and Diamanté personally. Before hanging up the jersey forever, Carnage will head to Australia for his two final festival performances on June 4th (Sydney) and 11th (Gold Coast) at Lunar Electric Festival.
Carnage says:
‘Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
After 14 years, CARNAGE has been put to rest and is officially dead.
As many of you know, I grew up in Guatemala and came to the U.S. as a child who did not speak any English. The descendant of illegal immigrants, my family came to America to pave the way for a better life for me.
It’s honestly hard to describe the ups and downs in my life as Carnage over the past 14 years. Today you see all the success and the flash, but what you didn’t see was my struggle. Years of grinding trying to turn my dreams into reality, countless nights in the studio, sleeping on friends couches, scraping money together to get by. I was just a kid with a dream and looking back I really do pinch myself.
I started my journey as CARNAGE in 2008 and together, with the help of my loyal fans, have been able to achieve some of my wildest dreams. From working with music icons like Avicii, Drake, Swedish House Mafia, MIGØS, Tïesto, Young Thug, The Martinez Brothers, and Kanye West to selling out clubs, theaters, arenas, stadiums, and festivals around the world, all I can say is – THANK YOU – it truly means the world.
ASOC Family, you mean everything to me. I would be nothing without my fans, I cant describe how many of you have touched my soul and changed my life, you are what kept me going these past 14 years. ASOC Family will live on forever.
Unfortunately all good things must come to an end, but that doesn’t mean we can’t go out in style. If CARNAGE is going to die there must be – A Grand Finale.
THANK YOU’
While this appears to be the end of Carnage, it is likely not the end of Diamanté Anthony Blackmon. The question is whether he will continue beyond these shows to perform as GORDO, and his social media is pointing to yes. Either way, you can catch the final Carnage shows in the US later this month.

Celebrate your inner “Child” with WHIPPED CREAM‘s latest masterpiece, a song that lives in the moment as we did when we were younger.
The new anthem written and produced by Caroline Cecil aka WHIPPED CREAM is raw and emotional, focusing on inner strength and inspiration. Through its beautiful, wholesome sounds and message, “Child” asks that for the next three minutes and 13 seconds, we let go of the pressures of everyday life and just be free.
The song’s music video flashes back to Cecil as a child, as she spent her formative years as a competitive figure skater, before a fateful accident shifted her focus and passion to music production. Cut between exquisite shots of a vast Canadian landscape, she laces up her skates and hits the ice once again with composed power and grace.
‘Child’ is a record about the little kid inside of you before they were told no. The vision behind the record is inspired by a little kid playing in the rain, in puddles, and in mud, wearing bright clothes, just grateful for every moment. The vision of the song is to get to that feeling as an adult, to live in the now, and not worry about what others think. Just be free. – WHIPPED CREAM
As those familiar with the project already know, it’s impossible to simply hear WHIPPED CREAM’s music, it’s better felt — and “Child” speaks to the heart. Watch here.
P.S. If you love what you hear, we also recommend WC’s recent release “CRY.”

With the odds arguably stacked against them geographically, producers Ari Kyle and Adam Lilley (L.A. and London respectively) initially connected through a couple of shared comments on soundcloud. This led to a DM conversation, the revelation they were both working with releases on the same record label and realization of a shared ideology and outlook on music production and the wider music industry as a whole,  eventually evolvIing into Medii. From releasing music under both major and independent labels, to winning International Songwriting competitions as well as winning over new listeners with each offering, Medii is providing a soundtrack to both the moments in life worth celebrating and those that encourage careful introspection.
Now, Medii is in the midst of a defining season of releases. Made up of three parts, ‘Binary Blue’, ‘Replica Red,’ and ‘What If This Is All Real’ – the two EP’s and final LP brings listeners through an extensive, dynamic sonic adventure that arcs across several weeks.
We are excited to premiere their highly anticipated ‘Replica Red‘ EP that truly showcases just how talented Medii are. The songwriting is top notch as is the productions, spanning a variety of genres with exceptional sounds incorporated throughout. Whether it’s the blissful melodies of “My Mind’s Escaping“, the summer time vibe of “Precious Time“, or the anthemic feel of “For Life“, Medii created a result that is spectacular. They even covered Post Malone’s “Circles” that provides an entirely new side of the track, perfectly meshing their style with that of Post Malone.
Closing out the EP is “Precious Time” and is perhaps the most soulful out of all the collection of songs. The vibe ironically has a ‘end credits’ feel to it – containing both a reflective essence to it while maintaining a chipper emotional state.
What If This Is All Real will be the final chapter of Medii cohesive rollout, slated to be an awe-inspiring ending to a project they’ve put their all into.

For uber-prolific songwriter and producer Rob Bakker, current project NICOLAAS is just a dot on a thread of work filled with hit songs, high level collaborations and three Juno Award nominations (Canadian Grammy). This thread weaved through the underground/conscious hip-hop world in the 2000’s, via his project Muneshine. Muneshine was extremely successful, especially in Rob’s home country of Canada where he was also long-listed for the prestigious Polaris Prize – twice. On top of all of this, he’s had the privilege over the years to worked with absolute starts like Portugal. The Man, Tom Waits, Pete Rock, Oliver and many more.
With NICOLAAS, Bakker dives deeper into the discotheque, and over the course he’s crafted his own impeccable sound that fuses funk, soul, and disco all together for an incredible result. His latest single is another slice of disco heaven, collaborating with duo Supertaste who add silky vocals to this already funk-tastic single, “Anyone Else”. Every aspect of this song feels fresh and rejuvenating, and it couldn’t come at a better time with summer right around the corner.
Supertaste adds, “this song was inspired by one of those dreams you wish you could wake up from sooner… where your brain exposes a fear and makes you feel it to the point of virtual reality. A lover in the arms of someone else, waking up in fevered heartbreak.”

The Two Fake Blondes have recently shared an incredibly catchy remix of their uplifting track “Song for When Ur Sadddd” by Deadman. Whereas the original track off their previously released album Out of the Darkness was a super uplifting progressive/piano-house based tune that prominently featured vocalist Hannah Mac; the Deadman remix feels more inspired by artists like Marshmello and Ookay featuring bright, glitchy synths and a focus on the distorted vocal refrain.
Right off the bat, the remix just gives off super upbeat, summer time vibes. The track uses that future bass trick of looping the vocal to make it sort of an instrumental sound itself. With the simplification of the vocals, the ultimate message and vibe of the track comes through. Hopefully, the bright production and catchy beat will brighten up your day when you’re sad. Although, hopefully, you’re not that sadddd.

risik stuns once again with their debut STILL BORING EP, out now via Wormhole Music Group.
For those unfamiliar with risik’s bold style of experimental rave creations, STILL BORING may strike as unexpected chord. In actuality, the EP follows in the footsteps of risik’s debut single “BORING,” thriving in unpredictability and oozing with originality, paying no mind to rules or norms or genre — because that would be boring.
As the EP’s PR declares, STILL BORING “explores themes ranging from surviving abuse and manipulation, to raving in a dystopian future rife with cybernetic sanguivores, all through a unique lens of heavy bass, harsh noise, and campy horror.”

“MACHINE” serves as an instinctual, acidy intro, before creeping into the familiar sounds of “BORING” (read more at the link above). Then, the dizzying bass heard in “BR00TAL,” risik’s collab with Thromb, takes hold before effortlessly moving into the peculiar beat of “DESIRE,” a slow, steady dance burner. “GUCCI” slaps with heavy intensity and growls, and rounding out the risik-defining originals, “KREEP” closes with beautiful, deadly force. Lastly, i broke my robot makes an appearance with a deconstructed remix of “BORING.”
risik shares in their own words:
feeling a lot of rly intense emotions right now. I’ve never worked on something for so long before sharing it. It has been a long 4 years of learning how to write music and finishing these songs. I’m starting to finally find the words to use to describe this album but I will shut up for now and give you a chance to listen for yourselves…

Following up strong introductions to the project, “DO IT” and “LEVEL UP” — “OK” proves there’s no need to overcomplicate a dance record. Set with a confident tone and purpose (and a killer bassline), “OK” taps into the LA-based DJ/producer’s fun-loving style and inner power while serving dance floor banger.
ALLIESUN shares in her own words: “I wrote this song with the intention of creating a dark but fun and bouncy track. I’ve been feeling really inspired by my close friends to live in a fun state of mind and this song totally reflects that energy.”
We adore the spark of passion we hear in ALLIESUN’s music and we can’t wait to hear how the project progresses. Listen here and link up below!

Disco Fries have been a prominent name in the electronic music scene for years, known for crafting a sound we all know and love that blends mainstream and club-stream elements. They’ve nearly peaked the Billboard charts, collaborated with Tiesto and Krewella, and have graced the biggest festival stages including EDC Las Vegas.
Now, Disco Fries are back and delivering an innovative new experience, forging their path in Web3 with a new pack titled ‘Friends of Fries‘, featuring some of their own music, collaborators, and up- and-coming artists, dropping on RCRDSHP. The pack features over 30 collectibles in total, with rewards and challenges for fans to have a chance at creating a track with Disco Fries, as well as a 1 of 1 fan experience, which includes a full studio day and dinner with the duo. Disco Fries are creating more utility and rewards from this pack than has ever been seen before on RCRDSHP – even more proof they continue to set a new standard when it comes to what can be done with music NFT’s and all they have to offer.
In addition to NFT drops, Disco Fries have created a successful platform known as Finish My Track. It is a place where artists can take their music a step further to get it retail ready. If you need your drums replaced, or vocals on a record, Disco Fries are powering what is now known as the “world’s first finishing house”, a step beyond just mixing and mastering a record. In addition to the website, the Disco Fries do a weekly live stream of the same name, bringing on A-list guests in the music and greater entertainment space to share their wisdom on what it takes to break through the noise, and cultivate a successful career in the industry.
All in all, Disco Fries continue to pioneer the way forward in the music and now Web3 space, going above and beyond not only for their fans, but any lover of music.

HARDWELL is back. Of course, it hardly needs to be said after his explosive surprise guest slot to close out Ultra Music Festival in Miami just a little over a month ago. But just the next week, he dropped his first new tracks in three years: “BROKEN MIRROR” and “INTO THE UNKNOWN.”
Two weeks later, he came back with “F*CKING SOCIETY.” Today, to round out the month, he’s back again with his newest installment, “BLACK MAGIC.” All of which will be featured on his forthcoming album, REBELS NEVER DIE.
As the world was able to surmise from his Ultra set, HARDWELL is coming back with a bit of a new sound, diving deeper into the roots of house and some techno thrown in. “BLACK MAGIC” perfectly captures this vibe with minimal elements but still a pounding club sound at its core.
We’ll hear more from the forthcoming album as the weeks go on, but for now listen to “BLACK MAGIC” below.

For the past few weeks, Martin Garrix has been dropping one club banger after another, all leading to the release of his debut album, Sentio. With his first release a decade past, and having already captured the #1 DJ in the world title three times, a debut album of this proportion is something certainly noteworthy.
It all began about a month ago with the release of “Follow,” a collaboration that Zedd that fans have been wanting for literal years. And it set the tone for the rest of the tracks as Garrix has creating friendly collaborative relationships with tons of artists over the years, many, if not all, of whom appear on this album: Mesto, Brooks, Matisse & Sadko, Julian Jordan, Justin Mylo, Blinders, DubVision, and more.
‘’I was sitting on so much club music, and after the lockdowns, it felt like people wanted to party and get their spirits lifted again,” says Garrix. “The album features some radio-friendly songs, but it’s mostly the more aggressive Garrix club sound. I didn’t want people to have to wait for the high-quality versions after Ultra for too long, which is why we decided to drop them weekly after the set. I’m super excited all the tracks are finally out for everyone to listen to. My first album is a fact!’’
As a whole, the album naturally feels like a return to Garrix’s roots in progressive house, but with enough variety between each track, thanks to the large number of collaborations, that everything sounds unique.
