Marc Straight Releases Debut Album ‘Beauty in Transience’ As Brilliant Personal Challenge

For a lot of artists hellbent on making a career in music, a debut album signifies a cornerstone moment in their career. Many have leapfrogged the old paradigm of creation and touring, opting for hit singles and club shows, while some take their time and focus on a cohesive body of work before hitting the road. Then, there’s Marc Straight, who already has a flourishing career as a video game dev and sound designer, and chose to work on his debut album for the last four years as a personal challenge to himself.
Four years is a long time for anything, but creating over these past four years, in particular, was particularly challenging. A global pandemic and plenty of personal trials and tribulations caused the album to undergo many changes, even in just the last few months before release.
Beauty in Transience, the title of the album, as well as the song titles, are clear nods to the emotions Marc has felt before, during, and perhaps even after production. ‘Morii,’ especially, has the meaning of the “desire to capture a fleeting experience. A bit like envisioning your life and wanting to press ‘pause’ to stop and feel more comfortable and rest in a world that is stuck on ‘play.'”
With his passion for melodic dubstep, Marc is able to convey complex emotions in a delicate yet powerful way that should have many listeners deeply connecting with his melodies and writing.

Shöckface and Belak glitch out on their new collaborative single ‘ALWAYS FEELS LIKE’

Hot off the release of SPLITTING, Shöckface has returned with north California based singer-songwriter Belak for a new single titled “ALWAYS FEELS LIKE.” The two artists met inside the metaverse after being awarded for their artwork in a soundstage.fm competition. 
Belak and Shöckface have collected their emotions, feelings and creative energy on their latest collaborative endeavor. “ALWAYS FEELS LIKE” begins with a slightly muted set of vocals from Belak singing, “Eyes closed but I still see your intentions, it always feels like my words fall on deaf ears, your lips speak of heaven it always feels like.” Immediately the record begins to pick up, rolling aggressive synth layers drown out everything in their path and what sounds like entering into a blackhole commences. The creative maestros’ anthemic hybrid bass crossover is bound to tantalize your eardrums in all the ways possible. 
Signature glitched out Shöckface vocal textures perfectly lay atop the drop as bouts of white noise and fluctuating bass lines paint post apocalyptic industrial soundscapes. ARC Festival Adds New Additions to its 2022 Lineup

After making tsunami-sized waves during its inaugural year, Arc Music Festival is not letting up in the slightest for their return.
Back in March, we saw the release of the initial lineup and now phase two is underway with the additions of Acid Pauli, De La Swing, DJ Three, Mark Farina, Öona Dahl, Pan-Pot, and Tini Gessler.
Attendees will also see the return of The GoodBus, an ARC Car Stage presented by a truly unique Chicago collective. The GoodBus is a full-length school bus converted into a fully-functional mobile sound stage with a 10,000-watt speaker system. Several acts have been announced as support, including Alex Kislov, Dangerwayne, and Dani Deahl.
Along with The GoodBus’ return we will also see the Spanish party company Elrow bring their “Rowmuda Triangle” theme originally from Ibiza to Union Park for yet another, creating a cutting-edge experience that mirrors the culture and artistry of its host city.
You can expect curated production elements and art to guide you between each of the four immersive stage environments throughout the sprawling greens of the park.
ARC will take place over Labor Day weekend – Friday, September 2nd to Sunday, September 4th. Tickets are on sale now here.

Sysdemes Drops Hypnotic Single, “Moss, Mourne” On His Own Imprint, Sysx Unlucky

Southern California based, Sysdemes, has developed his own unique sound that combines elements from Electro and Progressive House; crafting a completely unique sonic universe, replete with brooding dark basslines and memorable melodies.
A prolific producer, Sysdemes launched his Vault series in 2021 on Bandcamp to release the multitude tracks he had been accumulating but had not yet signed. Vault was a Bandcamp exclusive and initially intended as a way to simply bring to light the sheer volume of tracks and musical musings created during quarantine. “The whole self-release thing was really liberating. It’s great when I have a label like Mau5trap as a partner, but Vault showed me that there’s an audience for even my more experimental material.” 
Sysx unlucky debuted with the release of the single, “ldr.” A charged electro-influenced beat with ethereal haunting vocals and some pretty undeniable early mau5trap influences. The song set the tone for the label out of the gate. Now comes “Moss, Mourne,”  a hypnotic prog track that invokes memories reminiscent of early Deadmau5.
His talent in the studio really shines on this one as he effortlessly weaves out a dreamy synth lead while a gripping bass groove keeps you locked into this fantastical journey. It’s clear to see that Sysdemes is continuing to carve his own path in the electronic music scene and we cannot wait to hear more from him.

Yamato Unveils Fantastic ‘Essentials’ EP on Japanese-Based Label Avex

Yamato has had a career that seems like some sort of movie. Yamato won “WORLD DJ CONTEST 2013 JAPAN” hosted by Coca Cola. He was then asked by Avicii at the world contest, held in Ibiza, to perform with him at the festival in Budapest, Hungary, which led him to become the first Japanese DJ/producer to perform with Avicii.
With the backbone of having been a technical developer of Pioneer CDJ series, Yamato’s superb skill and DJ style that utilizes Pioneer DJʼs CDJ is known to be a style that no one can imitate and it has been renowned and admired from all over the world, attracting audiences at big festivals and clubs in Japan and all over the world. His performance videos series on YouTube has exceeded 30 million views, having fans all over the world and support from A-List names such as Afrojack, Laidback Luke, Lil Jon and many more.
Now, he’s back with an impressive EP, titled ‘Essentials‘, signed to the Japanese based imprint Avex. The title track kicks off the EP with bright melodies, driven by a powerful vocal performance from Mike Macdermid. It’s a fresh twist on progressive house, one that feels perfect for a song to wash over the festival grounds at sunset.
“Reflection” follows, featuring Poe Leos, seamlessly blending a pop-oriented style with massive electro house segments that ricochet through your speakers. “Shizuku” comes next, yet again showcasing Yamato’s versatility with a beautiful vocal sample paired with tranquil ambiance. Teaming up with Maydenfield, both artist craft all of the alluring soundscapes into a peak time anthemic tune. “Neon Lights” invites Macdermid back on vocal duties, capping off the EP in perfect fashion with a more soulful, slower-paced house music framework.

KENDOLL and Chuck Shadow Collab For Booming Bass House Single, “Down Low”

Kendoll’s been making big waves in the house scene and has received massive support from industry giants such as Insomniac, having already played Beyond Wonderland along with Electronic Daisy Carnival Las Vegas. Her label releases include Insomniac Records, Night Bass, Dim Mak, Prescription Records, Psycho Disco!, Audiophile XXL, Four 40, and there’s no wonder why she’s regarded as one of EDM’s fastest rising acts.
Speaking of making strides, Chuck Shadow is no stranger to making a few of his own. The Denver born, Los Angeles based, multi-talented electronic artist is known for blending his wide range of influences into his own form of house music ranging from the dark and ethereal to the comically enticing, already earning placements on Night Bass, Brooklyn Fire, and now the Boathouse records.
Now, the two have come together for what is a booming bass house single, “Down Low“, that is ready to shake the clubs and festivals alike this summer. A gritty female vocal sample rides forefront as wubby bass synths stab in and out, pieced together into a result of epic proportions.

Trivecta provides a career defining performance with his debut album, ‘The Way Back Up’

The number of times I’ve been fortunate enough to see Trivecta live is devastatingly low (twice), but the number of times I’ve streamed his music, particularly “Wasteland,” is astronomical. From all the way back in 2014 when I was downloading Monstercat compilations off Pirate Bay (sorry, Mike) to all of his recent releases on Ophelia, the Tampa, FL native has consistently pushed his own limits while incorporating new sounds and influences into music.
It all culminates today with the release of his debut album, The Way Back Up. Within the first six songs, we already get five different genres: the classic melodic dubstep, a bit of country/folk, some liquid drum & bass, uber wonky bass, and some heavier dubstep with psytrance.
Even the next song, “Memory Away” with fakelife, features some of his iconic guitar riffs.
The Way Back Up is Trivecta’s first album in his career and it’s a phenomenal listen start to finish. Check it out below.

The Chainsmokers Move Away From Collaborations On New Pop Album, “So Far So Good”

The Chainsmokers are back from their hiatus as they release their fourth studio album, So Far So Good, today, via DISRUPTOR/Columbia Records/RCA. The duo (or is it trio?) long ago jumped ship from EDM into the pop world, but it’s clear they still use their history as producers in their work so it’s been hard to definitively separate the two worlds. But on this album, they fully lean into the pop world as they work with producer Ian Kirkpatrick (Britney Spears, Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, Jason Derulo) and Whethan.
So Far So Good was created after the guys “escaped to Hawaii with some friends and gave themselves permission to not create anything at all if they didn’t want to.” In an era ruled by algorithms and focus on streaming numbers, there’s a fair bit of privilege that comes with doing something so seemingly mundane as just ‘getting away from it all.’ It’s unfortunate then that the final product feels a bit soulless.
Lots of reverbed vocals and glittery synths á la M83 or Owl City don’t do a whole lot to create a meaningful listening experience for fans, in spite of the admittedly clean production. One of the new singles on the album, “Testing,” manages to cover “Pure Imagination” from Charlie & The Chocolate Factory in its outro, preceded by lyrics like
Can I say I’ve lost myself?
Or would it be too much for everyone at home?
Can I say I’ve turned on myself
For all the things that I’ve done and everyone I’ve wronged?
and then
Front a busta with some bab
Get that hoe for her fifteen
all coupled with some cheesy synthpop and a hype hip-hop drop. It feels wildly disjointed; though, if you weren’t paying full attention to the song, it would actually be really fun.
Drew’s voice has gotten better. Or perhaps they’ve discovered some new vocal processing software. It’s hard so say. There’s certainly some Random Access Memories influence on “Solo Mission.” But the lyrical content from The Chainsmokers still suffers from the same lack of world awareness as the guys who once had the phrase “17.34 combined inches” on their website.
It’s not like every album has to say something new but even their hit single “High” says Why? You only say you love me when you’re high / It’s like we go through the same shit every night which sounds an awful lot like “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” by Arctic Monkeys, which came out nearly a decade ago. Is it maybe time to move on from asking why love interests only reach out when they’re under the influence?
Now, it’s three in the mornin’
And I’m tryna’ change your mind
Left you multiple missed calls
And to my message, you reply
“Why’d you only call me when you’re high?”
There have been too many times EDM fans have asked why The Chainsmokers are still billed for headlining slots at EDM festivals. And up until this album, I’ve been able to rationalize it with their admittedly high-octane and energetic sets. But now, I just don’t know.

Noisia Release Final Album ‘Closer’ w/ New Collabs From Camo & Krooked, Skrillex, & More

The announcement from Dutch electronic music legends, Noisia, that they’d recorded a surprise third and final artist album, ‘Closer‘, was recently heralded by fans, peers, and media alike. Although, for many in the US, the announcement falling on April 1 did result in a bit of confusion as to whether it was genuine.
Fortunately, Closer was truly released today, and it underscores Noisia’s phenomenal musical legacy, both within drum & bass and wider electronic music; the album includes 11 new songs within the 20-strong tracklist, and features collaborations with Skrillex, Black Sun Empire, The Upbeats, Camo & Krooked, Mefjus, Phace, IMANU, Halogenix, Posij, Former, Two Fingers.
In September 2019, Noisia aka Nik Roos, Martijn van Sonderen, and Thijs de Vlieger announced that the group would split at the end of 2020, the final chapter in a hugely successful 20-year career that saw Noisia break new ground for drum & bass, and become one of the most respected outfits in electronic music. However, following the COVID-19 pandemic they postponed the ‘end of Noisia’ until summer 2022 to allow them to say goodbye to as many of their Dutch and international fans as possible. The final curtain will be at Lowlands on August 21 – their ninth performance at the festival.

Skrillex Once Again Confirms He’s Working On Multiple “Albums”

Years ago, Skrillex casually intimated he was working on multiple albums after he was nominated for his work on “Midnight Hour” with Boys Noize and Ty Dolla $ign.
“I’m just in the studio finishing my albums,” he could be heard clearly saying, almost nonchalantly.
As one of the most idolized producers of the EDM generation, the news came as a shock. The constant rumors of a new album to follow up his debut Recess in 2015 were a painful reminder that we still, yet, had not actually gotten one. Of course, who are we as fans to demand an artist hurry up their creative process? Still, it was a source of relentless soreness behind the eyes for some.
It’s been three years since that casual statement and still nothing — but today, he said it again.
Sadly, the overall post was about needing to pull off the lineups for Movement Detroit and Tampa Sunset Music Festival. But he managed to once again slip in that significant plural: “albums.”
Who knows when we’ll truly see these albums, or a better question, if they will live up to the impossible hype that has been placed on them by fans. At least we know there’s still work being done.

Five Arrows Drops Feel Good Anthem, ‘Only You’ & Interview

It’s always a good feeling when you find a track which really catch your melodic senses and hits you with all those feels. We have the privilege so share such a track from talented upcoming producer, Five Arrows. Expect emotive vocals, clean builds and a climatic and beautifully layered drop. We had the chance to catch up and interview this talented guy also below!

What inspired you to start music?
I picked up a guitar when I was just a young teenager and listened to a lot of pop/punk/emo bands. I toured in a signed heavy metal band for many years, and when that came to an end, I took a break from making music. Artists like Illenium and The Chainsmokers got me into the EDM genre and still inspire me today.
If you weren’t doing music, what other career could you see yourself doing?
I would probably be a travel vlogger/blogger since I love to travel and create content. Photography and videography are still passions of mine.
What do fans of yours have to look forward to in the near future, are there any surprises to come?
I plan to continue to release new music and collaborate with various artists over the next several months. I also plan to release and EP/album towards the end of the year, and even maybe DJ some live shows in the near future.
Where do you draw your production’s inspiration from?
This is tough because sometimes I can sit down and write an entire song in a day/night, and other times I have writers block. Listening to all different genres of music generally gets the spark going for me, rather than listening to EDM all day.
Is there any advice you would like to give your younger self for coming into the music industry or something to help the songwriting/producing process?
Don’t make music to try and become “famous.” I see this all the time in online forums/groups with questions that ask what music genre gets you famous? My advice is to be genuine and write music you enjoy making. At the end of the day your authenticity will come through more organically that way. A tip I use when sitting down at my computer is to have a clear vision or goal that you want your song to sound like. This helps the process flow so much easier.
What’s the meaning of your track “Only You”? Love the cover art!
Only You is about that one person in your life that you can’t seem to forget about. A relationship that made a significant positive impact on your life.
We loved the Chainsmokers “IPAD” remix, tell us more about its creative process and how it came about? 
Haha so this one came about sporadically. I think the song had been out maybe for a week before I decided to remix it. This is one that happened fast and a very smooth writing process. I’ve always enjoyed The Chainsmokers so I decided “why not?!” I may or may not have another remix by them coming out in the near future…shhhh..
How do you identify as an EDM POP artist?
That is a good question. I never try and put labels on what “genre” I am. That is for fans/listeners to decide. I just write whatever I am feeling at the time, but if we did put a label on it, I supposed it would be “Future Bass/Pop.”

Excision Bass Music Initiative Pledges $100K Among 10 Underrepresented Bass Music Artists

While music production software and tools have become more accessible than ever before, money is still a significant barrier for entry into music as a full-time career for many aspiring producers. Whether it’s stable living conditions, or a separate job that takes time away from your true passion, financial freedom allows those who dream to create without worry.
To that end, Excision is launching the Excision Bass Music Initiative. $100,000 will be divided amongst 10 “underrepresented or underprivileged bass music artists” in order to give them a boost and a bit more financial freedom to use however they may need to get their career off the ground and onto the stage.
Additionally, each applicant selected will receive rewards from each of the sponsors: KJ Sawka, Artists & Relations, Ableton, Mackie, Izotope, Arturia, Kilohearts, Nawtystep, Xfer Records, Presonus, Zynaptiq, Image Line, IK Multimedia, Eventide, Audeze, Reason, Mixed in Key, Subpac, D16 Group, Polyverse, Oeksound, XLN Audio, Loopcloud, Plugin Boutique, LoopMasters, Melda Production, Baby Audio, Sonarworks, Soundteams, Coolermaster, Reveal Sound and Cable Guys.
“The goal of this program is to elevate a select few highly talented, underrepresented and underprivileged Bass Music artists to give them the tools to take their careers to the next level,” explains the selection criteria on the Initiative’s website. “At this time, brand new producers and producers who are not primarily focused on Bass Music will not be considered. We are looking for experienced artists who have already released music.”
As for who will be chosen: “Candidates will be selected based on the strength of their music production skills and style, as well as a demonstrated need for funding and time to commit to a career in music.”

Your EDM Premiere: Calyx & Teebee’s Long-Anticipated ‘Plates’ Album Is Here and We’ve Got the Final Premiere (Pardon the Rhyming)! [RAM}

After an inordinate and almost brutal amount of teasing (the first track came out in 2019), a couple of interstitial tracks on ProgRAM and Break’s Symmetry Recordings imprint and one final delay after the listening party last month, Calyx & Teebee’s nod to dubplate culture, Plates, will finally be out this week. Always intended to be “leaked,” as it were, over the course of multiple singles, this biggest-Calyx-and-Teebee-multitrack-since-the-last-one hits in both digital and its own vinyl “plate” (not acetate) format on Friday, May 13 on, what else, RAM.
With nine of the 12 tracks on Plates already out, one might thing there’s not much left to discover of this LP but one would be wrong. The time an attention D&B’s dynamic duo put into crafting each track really does prove that, as in dubplate days of yore, every one of them deserves its time under the lights and on a big rig. From the ameny dark dub throwback style of “War Dub” to the jazzy snares of “The Fog” to the lyrical crooked-eyebrow-at-social-media of “Anything for Attention” to the big sound of, well, “Big Sound,” Plates is a history lesson, a commentary and a hopeful look forward at the best parts of our scene.
Our YEDM premiere is one of the last and best-kept secrets of Plates and a testament to how expertly crafted D&B can be. “Dial Up” is also classic Calyx & Teebee up and down the staff. With its grimy, grinding synth line, its unconventional yet no less impactful drops, surprisingly melodic intro and break, actual barking vox punches and highly styled drumline, this is one of those “plates” that’s kept Calyx & Teebee packing dancefloors and punters complaining of whiplash lo these 25 years. You can almost smell the acetate coming off this one, as at the same time it reads modern and innovative for the digital generation.
It may be strange to think of Plates as seminal or career-defining since this duo have such a long and genre-defining career already. If anything, Calyx & Teebee are seminal to drum & bass itself. That said, it sort of is a big milestone. Traversing decades of sound, prevailing with regular track drops through a pandemic and reminding fans and artists about the core of the movement, all whilst not being able to tour and play all these “plates” in their intended venues, this LP is at the very least a reminder that D&B and, if you want to get puffed up about it, music as a whole, will always prevail do bring us sound, emotion and bass.

Porter Robinson Bringing Virtual Self Back For Epic B2B With G Jones At Second Sky Fest

Porter Robinson has been rolling out the lineup for his annual Second Sky Fest for the past week and so far it’s shaping up to be another incredible event. Before this morning, fans knew they’d be seeing RL Grime, KYARY PAMYU PAMYU, Hudson Mohawke, Fred Again.., and more.
This morning, however, he might have just announced the biggest act at the festival — even potentially more impactful than his own headlining set.
Virtual Self is coming back after Porter shelved the project to focus on his sophomore album. And better yet, it’s a B2B with G Jones.
The announcement was saved for a special video this morning as opposed to the usual key art he’s been sharing for the other artists, giving another indication of just how big this act is going to be.

Holy Ship! Wrecked Announces Lineup For 2022 w/ Louis The Child, Dimension, Lane 8, & More

Holy Ship! Wrecked will be returning to Riviera Maya, Mexico this year from December 13-17 for an all inclusive stay at the Hard Rock Riviera Maya. This will be the second year that the event has been hosted here, and the third year that Holy Ship! has found itself on the shore rather than on the sea.
