Just a little over a year ago, ILLENIUM debuted his TRILOGY experience — three sets, one each focusing on Ashes, Awake, and ASCEND, all in one night. The show happened just a couple weeks before the release of his fourth album, Fallen Embers, last July.
Now, he’s bringing the TRILOGY experience back and you know he just had to do it in Denver at Empower Field at Mile High.
We’ll have to see how he incorporates the new album into the show, because naming it “Quadrology” really doesn’t sound that great.
You’ll have a while to plan because the show doesn’t happen until next year, June 17. But be quick, because pre-sale starts this July 27 at noon MT. You can sign up for early access here.

Anyone that’s a fan of house music knows of The Golden Pony, the brainchild of NYC’s Timothy Layn, who has delivered sensational remixes for the likes of Rudimental and Hillary Duff, along with stellar originals that all together have amassed over 50 million digital streams and even a #1 hit on Beatport.
While The Golden Pony remains intact, Timothy is stepping into a brand new project titled STRAINJER. On top of the dynamic sound that he crafts as a gifted multi-instrumentalist, Layn’s true passion with STRAINJER is now being able to delve into the world of lyrics and vocal music, his main goal ever since he became a musician. “I originally moved to NYC to start a band, rather than produce straight dance music. The Golden Pony actually began as a 5 piece electro-rock band, but after some remixes went viral, I decided to pursue dance music and DJing. My true passion is with live vocal based music, and now I feel I have learned enough skills to go back to it and be globally successful.” With these skills, Layn says his “goals are to write hit rock songs that sound and feel ‘fresh’, in terms of the sounds and production used to make them.”
Paired with this announcement of STRAINJER is the debut single, “Cherry’s Bent“, a lo-fi synth rock masterpiece that feels like an instant hit. Backed by sparkly synth sounds, a rumbling bass line, and glitzy guitar melodies, Layn’s vocal shines carries a certain captivating edge that seems to set apart STRAINJER’s presence in the industry. Mixed by Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac, Bloc Party), “Cherry’s Bent” is powerful debut and only leaves us excited for what’s ahead.

Over the past two decades, there have been seven feature films in the Resident Evil series, as well as one limited animated television series. Today, the first major series releases on Netflix and it’s accompanied by a feature soundtrack from composer Gregory Reveret on Milan Records.
Included in the soundtrack is a new collaboration from deadmau5 and Skylar Grey, “My Heart Has Teeth.” Deep and brooding, the song feels right at home in Raccoon City. Rolling Stone reports:
“‘Dystopian suburbia’ is the kind of vibe I had in mind when making this song,” Deadmau5 said of the track. “It’s been pretty cool because I like that weird, corporate overtone of this entity that owns the village, if you would. I just imagine what that would be like while roughly composing the song with, of course, the vocal accouterment of Ms. Skylar Grey.  She’s an amazing talent to work with, and she just nailed the lyrics.”

The rise of EDM in America, specifically the stadium sized progressive house sounds of Swedish House Mafia, Avicii, and Tiesto had an enormous impact on artists all over the world, one of them being LA -based artist, Chris Costello. Today, he makes his debut with an electrifying EP, ‘We Could Be Together‘.
Touching on these earlier influences, Costello beautifully blends pop vocals with euphoric arrangements. Each song feels like an anthem on its own. You can’t go wrong with any song on this EP, but our favorite has to be the opening track, “Out Of Time,” a song truly feels like it belongs on Ultra’s main stage.

It’s been a little over a year now since Porter Robinson released his second album, Nurture. He’s had the opportunity to tour the album and perform across the world doing what he does best. Based on previous patterns of release from Porter, we weren’t really expecting any new music for another year or two at least, but when Riot approached him to create music for Star Guardian, something must have clicked.
Verge wrote in their interview with Porter for the new release:
Like many of us, Porter Robinson turned to video games during the pandemic. In particular, the musician got really into League of Legends. He remembers getting his first kill and thinking, “Oh, I get it. I get why people play this. I get why people love it.” It became a hangout for his group of friends during a particularly challenging period, a space where everyone would get together in the evenings to play. But it wasn’t until League developer Riot released the animated series Arcane on Netflix that Robinson truly got sucked into the fantasy universe. “I was like, ‘I want to be involved in their world,’” he tells The Verge.
There’s a lot more to the interview that provides context to the song and Porter Robinson’s obsession with League of Legends during the pandemic, which you should read if you have the time.
For now, watch the music video for “Everything Goes On” and scroll further down as Porter explains the line, “someday I’ll be overcast, but you won’t have to cry – cause we’ll do the grieving while I’m by your side.”

Gabriele Fedeli has been a super talented producer on our radar for just under a year now. You can expect explosive energy, masterful sound design and a really killer drop which leaves no prisoners. We are excited to continue to bring updates on this rising talent of a producer.
Moving in an all-instrumental direction, the energy in the track is far from lost. HARD was founded in 2007 by Gary Richards, aka Destructo, and began as a New Year’s Eve party in downtown Los Angeles. Over the years, it’s found its home in many venues as a touring festival, as well as the flagship event, which has occupied seven different venues in the past decade, including its current home at NOS Events Center in San Bernardino.

As we approach HARD Summer Music Festival later this month, which expands to 3 days for the first time ever, Your EDM has endeavored to rank our favorite HARD lineups over the years. As a note, because it will come up, this ranking is entirely subjective — there’s no way a ranking like this couldn’t be — and everyone’s picks for favorite event/year are equally valid.
With that, let’s get down to it. For the purposes of this ranking, we’ll be looking at the 24 flagship HARD events from 2007 to 2021: HARD Haunted Mansion (4), HARD Day of the Dead (6), and HARD Summer (14).
9. HARD Summer 2012

HARD had already become well established as a tastemaker festival, but this one deserves to start the list for a few reasons. At the top of the list is the first ever headline set for Skrillex after he’d played HARD Summer and Haunted Mansion the year prior.
Sadly, one of my great regrets is I didn’t attend this year, missing out on probably my only chance to see Magnetic Man, the epic dubstep super group made of Skream, Benga, and Artwork.
The second year at LA State Historic Park, the festival grounds were more fleshed out and easier to navigate with four stages. You can see familiar names like Action Bronson at almost the bottom of the lineup, as well as Fool’s Gold co-founder Nick Catchdubs, Birdy Nam Nam, Oliver, and Nick Thayer.
Nero continues to be a mainstay of the festival, as well as Boys Noize, Bloody Beetroots, Chromeo, Zedd, and Dillon Francis. You can also spot a rare DJ set from LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy on day 2.
8. HARD Day of the Dead 2015

HARD Day of the Dead 2015 is notable for being the first flagship HARD event to implement a 21+ age limit due to the unfortunate deaths of two attendees at HARD Summer earlier in the year.
“It’s the second time county officials have called for a temporary ban on raves in less than five years,” reported SGV Tribune.
The festival felt noticeably more empty than its predecessors without the usual just-out-of-high-school summer graduating class occupying the festival grounds in late July before they prepare to rush off to college. Still, performances from Deadmau5, Nero, Flying Lotus, Skrillex, Gesaffelstein, Kill The Noise, and a very early set from Marshmello gave the unique circumstances some true legendary status.
7. HARD Summer 2008

The first official HARD Summer ever, as it would come to be known. Electronic music, at the time, didn’t have so many global superstars as it does now, but that didn’t mean much to names like Steve Aoki, A-Trak, Kill The Noise, The Bloody Beetroots, and Jason Bentley who’d been deep in the scene for a while already.
And if you want to be even more impressed by those at HARD who book the lineups, MSTRKRFT was booked in a headline slot a full year before they broke out with “Heartbreaker” featuring John Legend.
That’s not even mentioning the absolutely wild booking of N*E*R*D, the Pharrell Williams-fronted hip hop and rock group.
At the time, HARD was still being held at the Shrine Expo Hall, which has a maximum capacity of around 5,500 people. A far cry from the 70,000+ that now go to the festival each day.
6. HARD Haunted Mansion 2010

The 2010 iteration of HARD Haunted Mansion was actually, truly, insane. Since the lineup posted is quite scattered, let’s go over all the names (remember, this is 2010):
Calvin Harris, Nero, Underworld, Boys Noize, Erol Alkan, Rusko, SBTRKT, AC Slater, A-Trak, Fake Blood, Jack Beats, Tommy Lee & DJ Aero, plus a mini Ed Banger takeover with Busy P, Brodinski, Mr. Oizo, and SebastiAn.
For just one day of music, you would likely have to sincerely cut every set in half to see literally everyone on this lineup because if you missed even one set, you were probably likely to regret it.
And remember, this is 2010 so Calvin Harris was just coming off Ready For The Weekend, The Bloody Beetroots had just released “Warp 1.9” the previous year, Rusko had just released “Woo Boost,” Boys Noize released Power the previous year, and Nero was on the cusp of releasing Welcome Reality.
There was a TON of music that would go on to become iconic that was likely being heard live for the very first time.
5. HARD Day of the Dead 2013

We’re getting into the absolute legend status of the festival at this point with HARD Day of the Dead 2013. Following the previous year’s debut, this year was expanded to two days.
The headline row is stacks enough as it is: Skrillex, Nero, Boys Noize, Zeds Dead, Bloody Beetroots, Masters at Work, and Cirez D on day 1; Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Pretty Lights, Eric Prydz, Cut Copy, Giorgio Moroder, Baauer b2b RL Grime on day 2. But you’ve also got Paper Diamond, Tokimonsta, Kavinsky (Live), Skream, Duke Dumont, Justin Martin, Maya Jane Coles, Soul Clap, David Heartbreak, and more down the line.
While the lineup is obviously heavily stacked, it’s the stage design that makes this year great. Deadmau5, of course, brought his Cube. But the highlight of this year was Skrillex showing up in a giant pumpkin. It’s definitely one of those “you had to be there moments,” because just saying Skrillex showed up in a pumpkin doesn’t exactly inspire awe or FOMO — but, you just had to be there.
4. HARD Summer 2015

2015 was the first year that HARD Summer was hosted at the Pomona Fairplex, though Day of the Dead was there first about 9 months prior. Even with the summer heat beating down on everyone’s backs, it was nothing like the Speedway.
The lineup this year was truly diverse, bringing in top tier hip hop to the main stage with lots of legacy acts and returning names. The Chemical Brothers and Ratatat closed out the HARDer stage day one and two, respectively, giving attendees who didn’t want to deal with the crowds at The Weeknd or Jack Ü a strong alternative. Though, you would have missed Justin Bieber coming out with Jack Ü on day 2.
Then, you’ve got Porter live, The Glitch Mob, Die Antwoord, RL Grime, Zeds Dead, Jamie xx, GRiZ, Big Gigantic, Lido, Milo & Otis, Overwerk, Jai Wolf, Mr. Oizo, Hermitude, Branchez, Jauz, What So Not, Hudson Mohawke, Alesia, Djemba Djemba, and more earlier in the day. Absolutely unmatched energy.
3. HARD Day of the Dead 2014

This lineup right here… wow. The world debut of Deadmau5 b2b Eric Prydz, what was likely Pretty Lights’ final show in California, Knife Party at their peak right after the release of their debut and only album, Abandon Ship, and Diplo on just day 1. Then Calvin Harris, Zedd, and Bassnectar (before we knew what we know now) on day 2.
There wasn’t a lot of Halloween or spooky fanfare at the festival this year, as far as memory serves, but the strength of the lineup more than made up for it. Plus, as mentioned previously, this was the first event at the Pomona Fairplex.
Gesaffelstein, Seven Lions, Odesza, Moody Good, Snails, Sweater Beats, Zeds Dead, RL Grime, Claude VonStroke, Borgore, Big Gigantic, Pete Tong, Rustie, Thomas Jack, Ty Dolla $ign, Luminox, Cashmere Cat, Eekkoo, and more brought up the rest of the lineup to an incredible precipice. Still, only a couple more events matched this energy.
2. HARD Summer 2014

This might be one of the more unique HARD lineups ever. The one and only event hosted at Whittier Narrows after it was ousted from the LA State Historic Park by the city for renovation, and before it found its home at the Fairplex, the Narrows provided tons of shade and foliage for attendees to escape the summer heat.
With five stages pretty well spread out, sound bleed wasn’t an issue and I honestly don’t even remember it being that difficult to get from stage to stage.
What makes this lineup incredible is taking a deeper look at the actual set times. For instance, day 2 on the HARDer stage, you had The Chainsmokers into Clockwork into Sub Focus into Chase & Status into Martin Garrix and then, finally, Nero. This was also the final show for Clockwork before he made his full transition into RL Grime. The Purple tent was equally insane this year each day, with The M Machine actually closing out day 1 after Kill The Noise, as well as day 2’s run of Trippy Turtle into Wave Racer into Hucci into Cashmere Cat.
You also had the incredible booking of Blood Diamonds, who you might now know as BloodPop, the producer for Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Madonna, John Legend, and more. This was also Jack Ü’s festival headline debut.
To top things off, and I’ve done extensively personal research and questionnaires on the topic, this is widely regarded as Nero’s best set of all time. Every Nero superfan I’ve asked has said this was their favorite set, if they were witness to it. No recording exists, and it’s truly a tragedy for the world.
1. HARD Haunted Mansion 2008

We’re finishing things off with the most storied HARD event ever — HARD Haunted Mansion 2008. For the true fans out there, this was probably the one you’ve been waiting for.
Featuring a lineup in 2008 that consisted of Justice, Soulwax, Simian Mobile Disco, Boys Noize, Crystal Castles, Deadmau5, and Crookers, this was already going to be a legendary event before anyone had even entered the doors.
But, it’s the story of DJ AM beginning his set wearing a Daft Punk helmet that truly cements this as the most legendary HARD of all time. AM played under the helmet for 40 minutes before he finally took it off and played a banger set for the remainder of his time, after he’d already nearly started a riot as rumors of Daft Punk playing spread throughout the venue.
It was actually quite easy to believe that DJ AM’s slot had been given away as he was in a plane crash just 8 weeks before the event. In photos from his set, you can even see the burns on his arm still not fully healed.
Very little (clean) footage of the set exists, but you can watch the full set below recorded on a Flip Cam — remember, it was 2008.

If you subscribe to Brownies & Lemonade text alerts, you might have received a text last Tuesday, July 5, leading you to an RSVP page that seemed extremely cryptic. Lots of strange techlang and interesting imagery obfuscated the truth — Justice was returning to Los Angeles. That information was held in secret until attendees received a confirmation email on Friday, the day before the event on Saturday, July 9. It was then that the rest of the lineup was revealed:
Justice (DJ Set) 2manydjs (DJ Set) Secret Guests [who ended up being Zedd b2b Alvin Risk] Arty b2b Team EZY Starya Team B&L Entry was first-come, first-served so the line started forming around 7:30p at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. Once doors opened at 9p, the line moved quickly and we were inside within the half hour to catch Team Brownies & Lemonade putting on a stellar opening performance. But while things were kicking off, we took a chance to look around and check out the complimentary food tents and open bar.

Photo via Caesar Sebastian The party, as some might have heard by now — or recognize the dome (above) was Notch’s .party() – an experiential nightclub concept between Notch (creator of Minecraft) and Production Club (creative studio working with Grimes, Beeple, The Chainsmokers, and more). The last time this happened in LA in 2016, Skrillex, Diplo, and DJ Snake performed.
Corey Johnson (Co-Founder/CEO) of Production Club says: “Notch empowered and entrusted us to design and produce a totally unique hybrid physical<>digital party environment. We believe experiential media is the future of live entertainment, and this was a prototype of what’s to come.”
Beyond the free amenities, attendees were treated to stellar visuals inside the fully projection mapped, 200′ diameter dome in the center of the Coliseum (equivalent to ~14 IMAX Screens), with performances that brought back memories of the bloghaus and OWSLA era.

Porter Robinson released his sophomore album, Nurture, a little over a year ago. He’s been touring the album since, as well as debuting a new project — Air2Earth — so you could say he’s been keeping pretty busy. But he’s just announced his next single, “Everything Goes On,” in collaboration with Star Guardian and League of Legends.
By now, most of you should have heard of League of Legends, but you wouldn’t be remiss for missing the memo on Star Guardian. Via the LoL Wiki:
Star Guardian is a series of parallel universe skins in League of Legends that follow the story of a group of high school students who choose to become cosmic protectors and must battle cosmic enemies threatening the universe. However, they consequently learn of the anguish and perils associated with their newfound roles.
Follow the presave link here to automatically have the track in your library when it drops on Thursday!

There are some artists in the music world that are simply certified hitmakers, and their levels of fame far exceed anything that I could even fathom in my own life. Bonafide superstars are what I consider these people, and there aren’t too many more beyond the likes of Avicii, DJ Snake, TIESTO, and John Mayer. Well, although it’s hard to imagine that he is quite there yet because his career is still so young, one multi-talented musician who I think is well on his way to a legacy that won’t be forgotten about is Hunter Bibby. He has this star power that translates into any song he jumps on turning to gold, both intangibly and physically. His anticipated single “Ambitions” fuses elements of classic EDM leading up to an energized vibe throughout the record without compromising dynamics.  Fans of Bibby wouldn’t be surprised that he delves into uncharted territory when it comes to genre-bending and getting out of his comfort zone. This season we can expect much more of Hunter Bibby in the public space. New music, visuals and increased social media presence are definitely around the corner. Milan Records today announces the release of Resident Evil (Soundtrack From The Netflix Series) with music by composer Gregory Reveret. Available Friday, July 15, the album features score music written by Reveret for Netflix’s Resident Evil, the first live-action series of the global franchise.
Making its debut last Friday was album lead single “Venus Flytrap (Main Theme),” a synth-heavy number featuring a signature vocal line and punchy drums recorded by The Goo Goo Dolls’ Craig Macintyre. (Listen below.)
The soundtrack also features “My Heart Has Teeth,” a brand-new original song from a long-time fan of the franchise, critically acclaimed electronic musician deadmau5 featuring pop vocalist Skylar Grey, making it their second collaboration after “Beneath with Me” with Kaskade.
For his soundtrack contribution, deadmau5 drew upon his older JUNO and Jupiter synths forgoing trendy analog synths and sci-fi features, resulting in a grindy, downtempo vibe. “’Dystopian suburbia’ is the kind of vibe I had in mind when making this song,” said deadmau5. “It’s been pretty cool because I like that weird, corporate overtone of this entity that owns the village if you would. I just imagine what that would be like while roughly composing the song with of course the vocal accoutrement of Ms. Skylar Grey. She’s an amazing talent to work with and she just nailed the lyrics.”
Look for the song to be available as a single on deadmau5’ label mau5trap soon.
Resident Evil debuts this Thursday, July 14, only on Netflix.

A shared love of music is what first created this website, it is what keeps us going out every weekend, and it’s why you are here reading this article. But, while music is such a driving force for all of us, it isn’t always the only thing that sticks out in our memories when we return home.
From the intricate light design to the colorful banners and cloths, the creative sculptures, and interactive installations, physical art has become a cornerstone in how many of us enjoy our time at concerts and festivals. So what better way to break from the music and crowds than to get lost in the vibrant landscape surrounding the stages?
For its inaugural year, Heatwave Festival strives to merge the auditory and the physical into a genuinely unique, mesmeric experience. Heatwave will welcome a full range of visual artists and creative sets, all of which will help showcase that experiential art and dance music performances as one and the same. Taking place on Saturday, July 16th, and Sunday, July 17th, in Chicago’s own Douglass Park, Heatwave is sure to offer an interactive adventure for anyone who steps through its gates.
Your EDM had the pleasure to hear from a few of the artists playing at the festival about who their favorite visual artists are and what installation has stuck out to them over the countless festivals and events they have had the pleasure of attending.

“Lefties art is so unique to us. It somehow looks both simple and chaotic when you first see it. Then as you look further at it, there is such a precise technique and balance to it. It’s really beautiful. We love that he came out of Chicago too like us; because we also know as artists that where you come from can influence your art, and I think it shows in his as well.”

“I’ve seen a lot of amazing art installations and visual artists, but something that has really stuck out to me over the years was the creations at a fest close to home called Harvest Festival located at Midlothian Castle, Burks Falls, Ontario.
This mind-blowing location was built by a very talented artist/sculptor named Peter Camani, who created a breathtaking castle accompanied by a 300-acre sculpture garden referred to as the ‘screaming heads.’ There are over 100 of these 20-foot-tall sculptures scattered around the property, it’s extremely magical, and like nothing I’ve ever seen before!”

Rome In Silver (Visual Artist)
“Diego Rodriguez, aka Paranoid Me (@paranoidmeart), is one of my favorite visual artists and has been for some time. He is the creative force behind all of my artwork. I love his use of shapes and unique patterns. Everything he does is extremely eye-catching. His art is absolutely mesmerizing, and I am glad to call him a friend and collaborator.”

“Robert Bose – Coachella is the first festival I ever went to back in 2013. The balloons he created and has there every year remind me of the first time walking on the Polo Fields and falling in love. They are also so cool and unique to Coachella, making it special.”

“Papilio Merraculous – He creates a lot of big art installations. My favorite is when he did the caterpillar that turned into a butterfly at Coachella. Art like that to me feels so much bigger than life and is so captivating – it’s such a beautiful thing to see.”

“Jonathan Zawada – I fell in love with his work when the Flume mixtape visualizer dropped (that’s how I discovered him). That visualizer is so creative and is truly a masterpiece. Beyond that, all of his other work is absolutely remarkable.” Instagram

“Es Devlin – She has created some of the most iconic and incredible stage designs for some of the biggest artists, and beyond that, very impactful art in various cities around the world. Her innovative thought and detail in the things she creates are mind-blowing.” Instagram

“Def Alec Monopoly. He invented a genre that people are still copying obsessively to this day. That’s super inspiring to us and the same effect we try to have in our music.”

It’s been almost a month since “The Fall” with Ship Wrek was the first song to be added to the deluxe release of So Far So Good from The Chainsmokers; this week, they added “Why Can’t You Wait” with Bob Moses to the growing tracklist.
The new collaboration is a calm and serene departure from the sounds on the original album, and, like “The Fall,” actually sounds much better than the initial release. Even Drew’s vocals sound more sincere paired with Bob Moses’ delicate melodies.
Check out the full release from The Chainsmokers below.
