A grand welcome is necessary for the electronic group Faithless! They have been hinting at a coming back to the stage for a few weeks now and we finally have more information. To welcome in their new era of Faithless, they are coming to a few cities before jumping into festival season.
They will be returning to the stage with a new live show. Itâs been 8 years since their last visit to the stage. Now, Brussels, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, and London will be able to witness these more intimidate shows before Glastonbury, Wildness, and Bestival.
These will also be the first shows after the passing of the passing of bandmate and vocalist Maxi Jazz. Maxi Jazz, made up one-third of the trio and penned the iconic hit 1995 song âInsomniaâ. Founding member, Sister Bliss, had some extremely kind words about their friend and the future:
âThese shows are going to be a celebration of all our years in music â what we love, what we stand for as a band, and a real tribute to Maxi as well. Weâve been working on this for months now so there is a theme, there is a feeling, there is a vibe to the show, and itâs exciting,â she continued. âIt will still have the rawness and edge that our shows are known for, and I think thatâs because weâve thought really hard about what we want to say both sonically and visually.â
âObviously he wonât be there with us, but heâll be there in spirit, and so the whole thing is a very new and different thing for us,â Sister Bliss shared. âI really hope people are going to get stuck in and dance, and really lose themselves in the music, because thatâs what people have always done at a Faithless gig.â

A true staple of the underground sound, French producer Julian Jeweil brings out the big guns in his latest release, Yeah/Basement. The two-track EP showcase Jeweilâs hard-hitting grooves and mastery of percussions. While partnering with Factory 93 for the release, this EP will resonate at festivals and clubs all over. If you need to break down new footwear, these songs will help you warm them up to wear them all night.
Yeah/Basement
Sometimes it is hard to choose a song that will start your night properly. Fear no more, as âYeahâ will become your absolute party starter. From a light groove to impactful kicks, this song ought to attract more and more people to the dancefloor. The use of repetitive âyeahâ hovers across the tracks with great buildups and sick drops. Moreover, the tempo has the perfect timing to make your dance moves explode in a seamless flow.
Basement is a dynamic song that fuses the sound of the underground along with some fun and determined vocal. âReady for the drumâ repeats throughout the track as the acid and reverbs take over. The repetitive dynamic of the vocal complements the minimal yet effective percussions. The final result is a multi-dynamic experience that truly represents the underground. Both tracks have a similar structure and carry each other together very nicely. âBasementâ is the darker side of âYeah.â However, both songs hit the mark tremendously.
More About Julian Jeweil
The Berlin based DJ and producer is a force to reckon with. With multiple Beatport chart-toppers since the early 2000s, Julian Jeweil has impacted the Techno scene with his unique approach to Techno. Whether he uses melodies or darker synths to produce, the results are usually showstopping. Jeweil has garnered the support from legends, including Joseph Capriati, Pan-Pot, and Deadmau5. Most recently, he has appeared in multiple Drumcode events and released multiple tracks under the major label.
You can find Julian on his socials and places like Loveland Fest this August. But if you do not want to wait that long you can always bring it down to the basement⊠oh yeah.

In an exclusive interview, trance luminary Ferry Corsten sat down with us to chat about his illustrious career, the changing landscape of trance, and his highly anticipated performance âWhat the Fâ at the iconic Maassilo in Rotterdam on May 3rd, 2024.
Iâve noticed lately that electronic music tracks have gotten in general, shorter, and shorter. Back in the day, we had seven-minute-long trance anthems. Why do you think tracks are becoming shorter and do you think this is a trend thatâs going to change and eventually go back to longer anthems? Or are we going to have 30 second songs in the future?
I think if the formula becomes 30 seconds, thatâs the end of melodic stuff, because thereâs no buildup.
A lot of this can be attributed to the Spotify culture weâre living in right now and the ADHD short attention span that people have nowadays. You know, I feel with Spotify, youâre not listening to music on Spotify, youâre listening to algorithms and analysis and numbers, thatâs what people donât realize.
But Spotify ultimately is like a wind tunnel for cars, you know? Every car on the road nowadays seems to have the same shape. And that goes for music as well because algorithms and analysis say your track should be like this or like that. This is because âthatâ engages the listeners the fastest and the longest. I feel that in that sense, when you look at music, everything gets shorter and shorter just to get to the meat of the track straight away and keep your listener there.
Some of these tracks are even shorter than the traditional radio edits. Itâs not the best development if you ask me because it takes away the art of building a track and telling a story through music. But look, thereâs the short version of that.
Luckily, thereâs also a lot of people that still release the longer original version. And I also understand that a track with like a minute and a half beats intro, for a lot of people is not interesting, thatâs a DJ tool. So, I get that on sites like Beatport, where you get those, but otherwise, I would love to see a sort of like a middle road, if you know what I mean. Not straight to the vocal straight to the meat, but a bit of an intro, which is already music and not just straight up beats.
You know, I get that thatâs very boring to listen to. But I donât think that we would go back all the way back to the seven-minute versions, unless you get those on Beatport, maybe. But I also definitely donât see it going shorter than two minutes.
I think for a proper trance track, if we speak in that genre right now, I donât think you get very far in two minutes. You tell your melody line once, and thatâs it, the track is over. And I donât think thatâs what we all want.
Speaking of genres and specifically this year at A State of Trance, I noticed that this year there were more genres represented than when I went in 2020. What are your thoughts about that? And what are your thoughts to the people who push back on the inclusion of genres outside of âpure tranceâ at A State of Trance?
If I look back at 20 years of doing this (trance), when I started DJing, I say mostly in the UK and also the early days in the US, people were way more open minded. It has grown in such a way that these âtrance puristsâ only want to hear this and everything outside that sort of window is not trance.
Trance has always been very, very diverse. If I look back 20 years ago, we had so many different genres, styles of music that I would now classify almost as house, but we consider that trance as well. Or at least I would play that in my set.
Tiesto would play, Armin would play that in his set, you know, it was part of the staple trance sound that that we play. But it could be a house track, could also be tracks that are almost borderline techno. You know, when I listen to old sets of mine, 2004, for example.
When I hear those purists talk about, âOh, back in the day, everything was just so much more beautiful. And this and that.â Iâm like, âWow, youâre so wrong, man.â
Because if you listen to that set from 2004, 2001, itâs almost like it leans more towards rave than trance. You know, occasionally, there was a track that had a big sort of trance synth. And thatâs why those tracks were so massive, because, compared to the rest, those were the ones that really stood out and made a moment in the night.
Now if you listen to pure trance, the 140 BPM stuff, track after, track after, track after, track after, track after track, Iâm like, Iâm done after three tracks, right? Because itâs all the same. So, I would say that, look, itâs cool to hear a track like that one or two, but mix it up because then the element of surprise when a track like that comes back in again, itâs just so much bigger than you hear than hearing, ten in a row. It becomes numbing, really.
So back to A State of Trance, I love it that the lineup is more diverse than just that, because it also celebrates the influence that trance as a genre has on other genres, right?
I mean, since everyoneâs so afraid to use the word trance, they started using melodic. Ultimately, if you listen to melodic techno, that for me is just slow, slower, really slow down trance with a bit more depth in it.
But itâs the same thing. And where techno is heavily borrowing from the big trance classics from 20 years ago. I think you should also really admit that those tracks are just ultimately trance tracks.
So, in those genres, I would like to say that trance is almost like the tastemaker, salt and pepper, right? It brings the melodic element to those genres. And I think we should be proud of it, as a trance fan, that those genres are so melodic now that theyâre being represented at A State of Trance. I think thatâs amazing.
I want to talk about your upcoming event that you announced in Rotterdam on May 3rd, âWhat The Fâ repertoire. Can you tell us a little bit about that?
âWhat The Fâ is my open-to-close concept that Iâm doing. Iâve been doing it now for two years, Iâd say.
I have done several shows in the US, Australia, Asia, Europe. So, for now, for the first time in my own hometown, which is great.
At some point, I got all these questions from fans, because this was when I was really playing a lot with Marcus still, and Marcus doing his open-to-close sets, and fans asked âFerry, when are you doing this?â Iâm like, yeah, I donât really want to do the same thing as Marcus. Thatâs really his thing. Heâs master of it.
But then I was thinking, Iâve also been doing quite a few producer sets, and they always take off. And I was like, okay, well, what if I have so much music with my various aliases, and all the music I produced over the years, I could easily fill eight, ten, twelve hours, if not more.
So, what if I do an open-to-close producer set? And that way, I also have a chance to play my deeper stuff. I have a chance to play stuff that people donât even know is me. People may even hear certain tracks that they know, but they never knew it was me.
Itâs an open to close producer set. So, playing all my stuff, and itâs a real journey from the biggest hits that people know to unreleased stuff, even back in the day, all the way to now.

Weekend one of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival was a rollercoaster ride of highs and lows. But nothing could dim the shine of the triumphant sets delivered by Doja Cat and No Doubt. They proved all the doubters wrong and showed that the festival had true headliners after all. However, the latest police arrest reports for Coachella 2024 show a surprising trend â a decrease in the number of arrests compared to previous years. According to a report shared by the Indio Police Department with SFGATE, there were only 81 arrests throughout the weekend, along with 47 parking citations. These numbers mark a significant decline, with arrests down by 20% and parking issues reduced by 43% from the previous year.
Despite the overall decrease in arrests, the majority of the incidents were still related to drugs. Intoxication accounted for 28 arrests, while possession of drugs for sale resulted in another 28 arrests. Additionally, 18 individuals were arrested for using false identification, most commonly to purchase alcohol. While these numbers may seem high, Officer Guitron from the Indio Police Department highlighted that this year was relatively uneventful in terms of crime at Coachella. However, he did emphasize the ongoing concern of phone theft, urging festival-goers to be vigilant.
One interesting detail from the arrest reports is the mention of recovered phones on the IDP Facebook page. A post revealed that 49 phones had been recovered, although it is unclear how many were lost rather than stolen. Despite the high number of recovered phones, there was only one arrest related to phone theft so far, indicating a potential disconnect between the number of thefts and the arrests made.
Decrease in Arrests
While drug-related arrests still dominated the statistics, it is worth noting that the overall trend of crime at Coachella seems to be stabilizing. Officer Guitronâs assertion that drug citations were no more prevalent than in past years indicates that law enforcement is effectively managing this recurring issue. However, the continued concern over phone theft serves as a reminder for festival-goers to safeguard their belongings and stay vigilant in crowded areas.
As Coachella continues to evolve and attract a diverse crowd of music lovers, it is essential for both attendees and organizers to prioritize safety and security. The decrease in arrests and parking citations at Coachella 2024 is a positive step towards creating a safer environment for all participants. By staying informed about the rules and regulations, respecting fellow attendees, and taking proactive measures to protect personal belongings, festival-goers can contribute to a more enjoyable and trouble-free experience at Coachella.
Addressing Phone Theft Concerns
One of the persistent challenges faced by attendees at music festivals like Coachella is the threat of phone theft. The recent arrest reports from Coachella 2024 highlight the ongoing concern over stolen phones, despite only one arrest being made in connection to phone theft so far. The recovery of 49 phones, as mentioned in the IDP Facebook post, raises questions about the prevalence of theft versus the effectiveness of law enforcement in addressing these incidents.
As festival-goers navigate the crowded grounds of Coachella, it is crucial to take precautions to prevent phone theft. Simple steps such as keeping phones secure in zipped pockets or bags, avoiding leaving them unattended, and enabling tracking features can help deter potential thieves. Additionally, staying aware of surroundings, reporting suspicious behavior to security personnel, and using password protection on devices can further enhance the security of personal belongings.
While the decrease in overall arrests at Coachella 2024 is a positive development, the issue of phone theft remains a pressing concern that requires continued attention and vigilance. By working together to protect personal belongings, stay informed about safety measures, and support law enforcement efforts, festival attendees can contribute to a safer and more enjoyable experience for all at Coachella and similar events.

Interactive art and psychedelia intertwine at Meow Wolf, a renowned brand that connects communities of EDM fans and art lovers alike. But for employees of the immersive events company and members of the Meow Wolf Workers Collective union, unexpected challenges are arising. The company is laying off 165 employees and cutting expenses by 10%, according to the Santa Fe Reporter. Meow Wolf let go of 201 employees at the outset of the pandemic, roughly four years ago. Since then, they've expanded to an additional location in Texas, hosted their branded Vortex Festival and threw an array of electronic music shows in Denver and Santa Fe, among other major cities. "There is no easy way to break this news," Meow Wolf CEO Jose Tolosa reportedly wrote in an internal company email. "On Wednesday [April 17], Meow Wolf will be announcing that we are cutting expenses by approximately 10% and reducing our workforce in order to right size the business, fund our growth and continue driving our future success." Despite the layoffs and budget cuts, the company will still expand, per the email. "Expansion is still an important part of our business strategy, and these changes will enable us to continue to grow in a way that is smart and sustainable," Tolosa added. The Meow Wolf Workers Collective (MWWC) union expressed their frustration with the news. "We believe the company knows itâs violating the collective bargaining agreement and are doing it anyway," MWWC President Roz Rosvold said in a statement. âThere is a process outlined in our agreement by which they must handle layoffs and theyâre not engaging in that process.â
"I would say this is just the cost of doing business, and weâre not shocked at this point,â added MWWC Secretary Treasurer Jerome Morrison. "This is really draconian because we spent a year negotiating a contract for them to outright ignore it."
