Alesso Unleashes Hotly Anticipated Single, "Zig Zag"

After teasing new music at some of the biggest stages in the world, including EDC Mexico and Tomorrowland Winter, the next chapter of Alesso is finally here. His latest single, "Zig Zag," has arrived via Capitol Records.
A conduit for crowd-control, "Zig Zag" offers fans a hypnotic listen. Subtle percussion and a mesmerizing vocal sample slither through the mix to entrance them before the arrangement builds into a minimalistic and infectious drop.
Alesso is preparing for yet another big year in 2024, with "Zig Zag" serving as the first track from his forthcoming Hypnotize EP. Most of the record has already seen play as fans wait with bated breath for its full release. In addition to new music, Alesso is set to launch his new "Body Hi" experience at Coachella's DoLab during the festival's first weekend.

With festival season on the horizon, the latest high-powered, mainstage-ready collaboration has arrived in the form of "16," a new track from Hardwell, Maddix and Blasterjaxx.
Arriving by way of Hardwell's Revealed Records, "16" is a relentless festival anthem that perfectly captures each of the Dutch producers' signature sounds in 2024. The track masterfully showcases their production expertise, delivering a big room-influenced beat with tinctures of techno.

AMÉMÉ Debuts on Defected's One People With Fiery Afro-House Track, "Wild Animal"

One People, the freshly minted Defected Records offshoot, has tapped AMÉMÉ for his latest Afro-house track, "Wild Animal."
"Wild Animal" is as infectious as it is electrifying. The track beautifully captures the essence of the EDM.com Class of 2023 alumni's sultry sound, instilling haunting grooves through its percussive elements.
With a driving beat that'll keep everyone moving all night long, "Wild Animal" also beautifully speaks to the vision of One People. The label aims to "orchestrate a sonic celebration of Afrocentric music from a diverse and international roster of artists," according to a statement issued at the time of its launch.
AMÉMÉ's signature event series, One Tribe, recently made its return in London at the iconic fabric earlier this year followed by a new residency in Amsterdam at Shelter. He's now set to bring the beloved series to Ibiza and Egypt next month.

Defqon.1 Announces 2024 Lineup and Explosive 5-Hour Closing Ceremony

When the beat drops at Defqon.1, the world listens.
The world's preeminent music festival for hard dance has once again shattered expectations, unveiling a colossal lineup of over 350 artists and a closing ceremony that promises to etch itself into the annals of festival lore. 
From the 27th to the 30th of June, Biddinghuizen will transform into a sanctuary for the hardstyle faithful. Defqon.1, an annual pilgrimage for over 250,000 fans, embarks on its 20th edition with an electrifying roster featuring Ran-D, Angerfist, Showtek, Brennan Heart, Sound Rush and Sefa. These luminaries, among others, will guide fans through a four-day rite of passage in an explosion of hardstyle, hardcore and more.
However, it's the announcement of the festival's closing ceremony that's currently capturing the collective imagination of Defqon.1's loyal following. Promising an unprecedented five-hour finale, the ceremony will see the festival's RED stage become an epicenter of hard dance and host a to-be-announced lineup of Defqon.1 legends to the stage, one after another.

Sinners releases melodic compilation ‘Brightness Pt. 2’

We’ve been hotly anticipating the release of Sinners‘ latest compilation ‘Brightness Pt. 2.’ This innovative label has a knack for curating lineups of ridiculously talented artists that blow my mind. And let me tell you, they’ve truly outdone themselves this time around.
Just look at the names gracing this tracklist. Reading the artists featured gets us giddy with excitement.
I’ve had Esoteric Circle‘s breathtakingly atmospheric sounds on repeat lately, getting lost in their lush, gauzy textures. But I’m just as hyped for the abrasive experimentation Polygraph is sure to bring to the table. And AGAP? Their emotive songwriting always leaves me with a puddle of feelings.
Then you’ve got heavyweights like Haffenfold and Analog Context who have mastered crafting these utterly hypnotic, enveloping soundscapes. Just thinking about getting submerged in their immersive productions gives me chills.
But Swanborn is the wild card that really intrigues me. Whenever I listen, it’s like reality glitches and I’m experiencing music from another dimension. Weird in all the best ways.
Each artist’s contribution to ‘Brightness Pt. 2′ is going to complement and elevate the others’ into some kind of transcendental musical experience.
I’m bracing myself because this album is about to blow my mind into an astral plane. These are the kinds of releases that reshape my entire concept of what music can be. Listening is going to be a religious experience.
‘Brightness Pt. 2‘ glimpse true brilliance and having my soul forever altered. Sinners has done it again, and I can’t wait to have my existence rocked.

Parra for Cuva releases ‘Pinie’ ft. Orbit

Parra For Cuva, a German electronic producer and multi-instrumentalist, releases the third song from his highly anticipated fifth studio album in April. It’s called “Pinie.”

EDMTunes New Music Friday – Week 13

Listen to the most flavour-packed tracks we discovered this week.
Music makes the world go round. And in that regard, we’re constantly on the lookout for new, exciting tunes to share with our audience. We’ve found some that cause goosebumps, and make you open your eyes and get up from your chair to dance. So put on your best pair of headphones, or turn up your speakers, and enjoy this week’s New Music Friday.
Here are our top picks for the best music we came across this week, in no particular order.
Eli Brown & Lilly Palmer – Gasoline
Genre: Techno
Did you expect a massive collaboration like this one? We’re witnessing the clash of two titans this week, as stars Eli Brown and Lilly Palmer come together for a frankly outstanding Techno pounder, ‘Gasoline‘. The title is probably a metaphor to represent the effect of this track on the dancefloor.
With a powerful beat and a rhythmic chord reminiscent of the 90s Euro scene, Brown and Palmer’s release is one you’ll struggle not to make a lemon face with. It’s really that secret weapon for the darkest laser-decorated, smoke-filled rooms.
Nicholas Gunn feat. 88Birds – Heart of Gold (York Remix)
Genre: Progressive Trance, Progressive House
Blue Dot Trance is killing it lately. We’re glad to have covered the birth of this imprint and are, of course, glad to see where Nicholas Gunn, its owner, is taking it. Good music, that’s all. And Trance. Tons of it, and of pristine quality. The latest of the label is York‘s remix of Gunn’s very own ‘Heart of Gold‘, featuring the vocals of 88Birds.
Have you noticed we have a tendency to share at least one close-your-eyes-and-fly-away track in every NMF? Well, this is the one. Do as I say, and let the break, flowing to the chords, flowing to the beautifully old-sounding Progressive Trance drop send shivers down your spine and take flight.
Universe – Shikadai
Genre: Hard Trap
Yeah, I guess we’re breaking the Spotify-only rule and tossing it in the bin. It’s the second week we’ve come across a frankly irresistible track not released on Spotify but rather on SoundCloud. And honestly, we’re more excited to share good music than we are sticking to a statement. Meet ‘Shikadai‘, the latest bomb from producer Universe.
‘Shikadai’ is a Hard Trap choon, something that can, and will, get you off whatever you’re doing and get you hooked as soon as the first drop hits. It’s an eye-opening moment, literally. And the track itself is one jewel crafted for the largest festivals. Have a listen and see.
Station Underground · Universe – Shikadai (Original Mix) Zaytek – Falling
Genre: Tech House
On the decks of this week’s New Music Friday we welcome Zaytek. Mexican-born and Washington-based, the producer has been making waves in the industry lately, with releases like ‘Change My Mind’ and ‘Stay’ — both nearing 20,000 Spotify plays as we speak. His latest release, out this week, only proves he’s aiming for the Moon and further.
‘Falling‘ is everything you’d want to hear on loud soundsystems. Groovy, with just the right amount of melody, entrancing textures, and tasty percussion. The vocal catches you and doesn’t let you go, and so, just like that, you’ve consumed nearly four minutes of good music without noticing. Maybe you’ve even sweated a bit dancing it out. I can’t be the only one!
Corey James x TR3NACRIA – Demolition (The Drill)
Genre: Tech House
We’re all for collaborations. How about four minds blending to update a classic? Corey James, an industry racehorse as of now and who’s been a 1001Tracklists Top 101 Most Supported Producers for three consecutive years, joined forces with Sicilian trio TR3NACRIA, who are the heads behind tens of millions of streams. All of this, for their take on the iconic ‘The Drill‘ by The Drill, from 2005.
The collaboration between them all presents us with a new version of the anthem, perfectly blending the essence of the original with a modern Tech House vibe. It’s always nice to see tracks like this come back to life with respectful versions. We’re fans!
ESSEL & Alex Mills – Rave Is the Weapon
Genre: Tech House
Back on Toolroom, one of the leading labels in the world right now, is ESSEL, whose 2023 release ‘The Edge’ just crossed the 4 million streams bar and nearly 40 BBC Radio 1 supports. Her 2024 release on the imprint is an all-female one, for she is joined by producer and vocalist Alex Mills, one who, in line with her collaborator, has written for CamelPhat, Solardo and Ferreck Dawn, and had a UK Top 40 with her track ‘Million Dollar Bill’.
Judging from CVs like those, this track should be a bomb. Spoiler alert, it is. Don’t doubt it. Packed with old-school House vibes and an overall beat that might as well be used, like its title, as a weapon, ‘Rave Is the Weapon‘ is a must-have for four-digit crowds and mint-condition speakers. Try it out and let us know!
CHEMISTREE – Take It Back
Genre: Brostep
We’re so happy to close this week’s New Music Friday with a track like this. It’s a rollercoaster ride! It is a journey through the senses, a sensory overload, in a very good way. Producer CHEMISTREE has just unveiled the first song lifted from his upcoming artist album, and it is this one, ‘Take It Back‘.
How can you describe something when you have no words for it? It’s tough, but we’ll try: it kicks off as a melodic piece that takes you sky-high in pure ecstasy, only to bring you back down to Earth for a dirty, lemon-face-inducing drop. It’s savoury, very very savoury. Listen with caution. Nah, drop the warning. Blast it with the lights out and, contrary to what one is used to, focus on the breaks very closely, they’re pure bliss!

[Event Review] Beyond Wonderland SoCal 2024 Delivered Its Magic

The Mad Hatter released all the craziness from wonderland in San Bernardino. This year’s Beyond Wonderland SoCal gave us everything we wanted and more, from one of Insomniac‘s best lineups to date, to raging afterparties that went until 6am. We shall dig deeper into the rabbit hole and reminisce all the goodies that we found this past weekend. The event shined a light to all genres of EDM across six psychedelic stages. Nevertheless, wonderland was stacked with incredible Techno and Hardstyle acts that gave Alice a crazy trip.
Jamal Eid for Insomniac Events Wonderland
The production value this year felt really appropriate, from crazy characters to beautiful photo ops and amazing visuals. Every stage had its charm. However, The Looking Glass was the knight in shining armor this year, with a stacked lineup of incredibly hard techno that packed every inch of the dancefloor. We now feel that the stage has main character energy and it deserves an expansion in the future. Some stages had their own hookah bars and fun amenities, which justified a VIP upgrade. The Queen’s Domain and the Mad Hatter‘s Castle brought out incredible House and Bass acts that made our knees weak all weekend.
Gina Joy for Insomniac Events The Music
Beyond showered us with a lot of love, and a lot of amazing artists. We heard epic b2bs such as Bart Skills b2b Joyhauser, Eli Brown b2b Lilly Palmer, Tchami b2b Malaa, and the legendary Afrojack b2b R3HAB. We even got a chance to sit down with R3HAB after his set to chat about this upcoming festival season.
Credits: Frits Van den Brink The mixture of talent really defined this festival in a category of its own. Individual sets that had everyone go wild include The Chainsmokers, Max Styler, Anfisa Letyago, I Hate Models, and probably the most packed and insane set of the weekend Sara Landry. Her popularity has exponentially influenced the Techno scene in the US so beautifully. It is just a matter of time until she has her own Hekate Records takeover at different festivals, and get booked in bigger and better venues.
Improvements
We are always happy to know that Insomniac consistently listens to feedback in order to improve the experience they provide year by year. From distributing artists and set times on the different stages, to expanding festival hours to allow a better flow during peak hours. Thus, we feel that the parking situation wasn’t ideal as the lots were filling up way too fast and the streets of San Bernardino were very busy. It is understandable, as the event was sold out. However, we hope for better logistic planning when it comes to parking and we know Insomniac has what it takes to make the event event better and safer for everyone.

We had a wonderful time exploring this campy world of imagination. Beyond Wonderland created a bunch more core memories for us. As of now, we will gear up towards Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge and the brand new Chicago edition. Next year’s tickets are already up for sale… see you guys there!

‘Amulet’
Slightly more mysterious, and even groovier (how?!), ‘Amulet‘ — my favourite out of the three — develops an entire song around quite the simple idea: two chords telling a tale. There’s so much happening that you can almost forget about the simplistic idea of its foundation. You get carried away super easily, it’s just that mysterious. It’s intriguing. ‘Moon Dust’
I don’t know how to word this, but this one does, indeed, feel like a track born out of a night experience. I can see it being the most appropriate for a heated night on the dancefloor. Even more mysterious than the other two tracks, and containing filtered elements that can only up the groove and danceability of it, ‘Moon Dust‘ portrays the perfect tune for a full moon’s night.

PREMIERE: TATE SEDAR Unveils Electrifying New Single “San Francisco”

With over 5.7 million plays in 2023 and tracks like “Heaven” and “Find a Way” featured on massive publications, SEDAR’s global influence is undeniable. His remix of Empire’s Terrell Carter’s “Hero” and edit of Justin Bieber’s “Hold On” demonstrate his commitment to infusing electronic music with deeper themes.
Now he’s back with a bright new single “San Francisco” that we are thrilled to premiere. San Francisco holds profound personal significance in TATE SEDAR’s artistic evolution. As a city renowned for its musical heritage spanning rock, funk/soul, and hip-hop, it becomes the thematic nucleus of his latest release. “San Francisco” pays homage to the diverse sounds that influenced SEDAR’s formative years while also acting as a platform for his ventures into uncharted musical realms. The track exemplifies the transformative influence of revisiting one’s roots to chart new creative territories.
We had the chance to catch up with him to discuss the song and what’s ahead for him. Enjoy!
The Genesis of “San Francisco”: Can you describe the moment or experience that inspired you to create “San Francisco”? Was there a specific event in the city that sparked this artistic endeavor?
San Francisco was actually something I made by accident. I was playing around with lofi samples and I started to realize: “this sounds a lot like what I grew up with in SF.” Is there a specific event? Well, it’s my youth – my upbringing. And sometimes, you find yourself in other things. And I think that’s what happened with these samples and the production.
“San Francisco” represents a fusion of diverse genres. How did you approach the process of blending elements of progressive rock, funk, hip-hop, and post-EDM to create a cohesive sound?
I first started with the guitar melody and found out (while I didn’t even realize San Francisco was shining its way through) a sort of connection between rock and funk. The connection, of course, is where I’m from: rock and funk are part of the ‘San Francisco sound.’ And then…I kind of left the middle break alone for a bit. But when I started to hear SF, I thought: “I’m going to add hip-hop,” ‘cuz ‘cmon: the Bay Area – we’re known for that (laughs shortly). Post-EDM is the result of this track; it’s all these different sounds and genres in an electronic format, or at least what people consider, you know, EDM and electronic music now. I didn’t even realize at the time I was coming into the concept of post-EDM until after.
Beyond its musical influence, how has the city of San Francisco shaped you personally and artistically? Are there any landmarks, cultural aspects, or personal memories that directly influenced the track?
You know what’s kind of funny is: I was raised in San Francisco but have not spent all my life there. I lived there until I was about seven, moved around with family to the [US] East Coast, then London, went to school in [central] NY – and finally made it back to SF (now in LA). My mom always believed she made “SF part of my…identity” and I think it’s very true because, even though we didn’t live there full-time, we visited every summer and winter. It became important still in adolescence: those high school summers when you’re 16, 17, 18 are crucial in everybody’s upbringing.
San Francisco has shaped me in terms of my outlook on life, social dynamics & experiences with people and some of my beliefs: I kind of am somebody who believes in and hopes for a world without judgment or discrimination – a world where everyone can be who they are or want to be, regardless of what people think. There is a warmth and care that San Francisco breeds, or at least used to (a story for another day) – but I think I’m still part of that [earlier] generation.
I really only discovered what is glam or early progressive rock – Journey – when I lived in London and researched music from SF. Motown and R&B were always part of my youth. I think San Francisco is very much a “melting pot,” like New York City – and that is what this song is: a fondue of music (laughs). Those memories of finding this music is what made this. Some music might be inspired by what’s current now or trends, but this track is about what made me. It’s kind of a retrospective, but also a style and concept I haven’t encountered yet.
Your career has now ventured into the realm of what is labeled ‘post-EDM,’ a genre that signifies progression from traditional EDM sounds. How do you define post-EDM, and what makes “San Francisco” a standout piece within this genre?
The definition (or my interpretation) of post-EDM is: a progressive style of electronic music that incorporates sounds of what some may consider “the Golden Age of EDM” (2010-2014) and afterward as well as music from the past – really, it’s an amalgamation, a refinement of digital and analog sounds. And I realized this made the most sense, in terms of my career, because I felt limited with synthesized sounds. Yeah, sound design is great: it’s something fresh, people love novelty. But there’s something about what we know – what we’re familiar with – that engages people. You can’t deny that guitars, pianos or even an old vocal style each evoke a certain emotion and I feel like just staying with synthetic music is devoid of that [emotion].
“San Francisco” is the introduction to this sound because it incorporates the three most well-known genres of SF, all of which are pre-electronic music (rock, r&b and hip-hop) and its natural form exhibits the definition of post-EDM. Some people might say “it’s a funk-inspired” or “disco house.” track, and that’s ok. There’s a little more there though, and for those that really wanna take it apart and hear that – I think they’ll get the message.
You’ve emphasized storytelling through your music. What story does “San Francisco” tell, and how do you use the different musical elements to convey this narrative?
I would say this is more a story of sound than necessarily a narrative. Yeah, I have love songs and songs about finding yourself – but this is the story of San Francisco through music. And sure, it might feel like a history piece, but some people like history. And also, it just hits a lot of spots emotionally when you think of the different analog sounds that inspire it.
What’s your plans for the future – how are you feeling about 2024 and where you are headed within the year?
I am ready for 2024. I have a lot slated; I have so much music over the past couple of years that basically fit this sound and became the foundations of my rebrand. But also…feeling a little anxious. I committed to trying to put out [1] original and [1] remix a month. That’s a lot of work! 
I think there is something to offer for people to hear, but I just need to have a year where I get it all out and see what happens. I didn’t put out a lot of music last year and need to expand the catalog. And if it doesn’t stick, we try again! But I’m confident that some of this will connect with people because there is an audience who doesn’t even know they like electronic music – because they don’t know that these sounds that are familiar could also be part of electronic music. And that’s what I’m hoping to do – is to be able to bridge a gap.

The accomplished British DJ/producer Genix has made a lot of strides in his career since releasing his debut single, ‘Red Vision‘, back in 2005. Since then, the Electronic music world has seen Genix produce stellar live sets at illustrious locations such as The Gorge when he performed alongside Above & Beyond at Group Therapy Weekender and the famous Warehouse 55 locations in London and Los Angeles. Most recently, his recent EP, Warehouse55 (Volume 2), included support from top artists such as John Digweed, Joris Voorn, and Armin Van Buuren.
The release of Dance Like Nobody’s Watching / On & On comes after the successful release of ‘Lights, Sound, Camera, Action’.
