Porter Robinson Releases ‘Cheerleader’, First Solo Track in Two Years

Porter Robinson‘s first single from his third artist album has dropped! We finally can confirm, even though we heard from the man himself, that he’s tapping into the 2010-2013 Indie Rock era. Of course, he’s added his own Porter twist to it as well as his own vocals!
In an IG Live Porter did with jamesjamesjames, Wavedash, Frost Children, Rezz, and his wife Rika shortly after the song dropped, Porter asked Rika what is one word that could describe the new album. Rika said, with a smile on her face, “pure fun“. Porter agreed and added “I haven’t played with high energy in a while.” Porter also gushed about how insanely happy he was at the moment even with very little sleep as he anticipated something going wrong with the release at 11 AM CST today.
He seemed the most confident than he’s ever been – stepping away from the emotional and slower BPM of Nuture and a pivot from Worlds. It feels like he’s in his zany and anime-influenced era with emotions and, of course, his love for Dance Dance Revolution. Take a look at the lyrics and the music video as well. There are many theories going around the Internet of what it all might mean. A general consensus is that it’s about intense fans of a project or person — still up for debate.
Regarding ‘Cheerleader‘, Porter says: No word yet on the album’s release date. But, we’re off to a great start! Rejoice, scene kids! It looks like we may get a My Chemical Robinson era.

Fred again.., Four Tet, & Skrillex Raise Money For New York City Soul Bus After Robbery

This week, the New York soul bus was robbed. Fred again.., Four Tet, and Skrillex have come to the rescue raising $12,600 to repair the bus. They famously played in it at Times Square last year before their massive MSG show.
A GoFundMe has also been started for the NYC bus. The robbers took everything inside including DJ and sound equipment. Sadly they have a massive Riddim Bus event coming up where the bus is required. Over $20,000 has already been raised thanks to generous ravers.
City Soul’s mission has always been to bring as many free street parties to the people of New York City as possible, while embodying diversity, inclusion, and equality. Since they started in 2020 as a grassroots passion project, City Soul has grown into a respected and beloved community force by showcasing the talents of local DJs and performers.

They’ve curated an exciting lineup so far, featuring tech house purveyor Kyle Watson for the grand opening on March 29, Demuir on April 5, Mikey Lion on April 12, and plenty more.
The Knights hope to plant Night We Met’s flag in the ground as a premier dance music destination in the South, and given all of this info, we’re sure this will be a resounding success.

Hyperpop Bliss Meets Anime Angst In Porter Robinson's New Single, "Cheerleader"

If we've learned anything about Porter Robinson over the years, it's that running the emotional gauntlet of his music is unavoidable. His albums are few and far between, but when they do come, we all willingly plunge into his bitcrushed universe of unfiltered nostalgia.
As fans wait with bated breath for his long-awaited third LP, Robinson today released its first single, "Cheerleader." The anime-inspired dance track shimmers like a Tokyo cityscape, fusing bubbly hyperpop and indietronica to deliver an incandescent earworm that earns its place among his best.
Its lyrics, an anguished confessional of unrequited devotion, pierce like cherry blossom thorns to mirror the fragility we all feel as a relationship's expiration date nears. Robinson delivers them with tortured ache atop a fizzy synthpunk beat, mourning affection's insatiable voids through harmonies drenched in longing.
Robinson in early-March said his upcoming album is complete, but stopped short of revealing a title or release date. The record follows Nurture, which he released in the spring of 2021 seven years after his fan-favorite debut, Worlds.

Justice unveils new single ‘Saturnine’

With the release of their hotly anticipated album Hyperdrama quickly approaching, Justice has unveiled the massive new single ‘Saturnine (with Miguel)’ and shared the album’s full track list and collaborator details ahead of its April 26th release via Ed Banger/Because Music. 
“We don’t think we’ve ever made anything that sounds remotely like this track before,” states the band of the song’s epic scope. “It started with Gaspard playing around with an E-mu synthesiser guitar sound, and he found the main riff. The rest came very quickly. We love Miguel’s voice when it’s raw. We wanted him to sound outrageously frontal, with no space around his voice. We felt confident we could make this work with a single mono take of his voice, and minimal processing. It also suited the theme of the song, that’s this sort of fear and loathing in Las Vegas sweaty, hallucinatory flow. Feeling well in feeling bad.”
In conjunction with the new single release, the band have announced the first batch of US headline dates for their impending global Justice: Live tour, which will officially debut with a topline slot at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. They have also just added a new date at Accor Arena in Paris, and were also recently announced as performing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival in June, as well as headlining London’s Field Day Festival in August.
The band have also just unveiled the track list for the impending album (find full details below), revealing an additional collaboration with Tame Impala, as well as songs with Thundercat, Miguel, The Flints, Rimon, and Connan Mockasin. The album will of course also include the recent smash singles ‘Incognito’, ‘One Night/All Night (with Tame Impala)’ and ‘Generator’, the latter of which was recently treated to a music video depicting a graphic sexual dalliance between two humanoid robots.

Nostalgix Talks About Starting Her Artist Career, Her First Show, A Pivotal Moment & More

Born in Iran but deeply embedded in the Canadian dance music scene, Nostalgix embodies versatility as a DJ, producer, and writer. Infusing her music with a spirited charm and old school flair, characterized by booming basslines and vibrant beats, she is featured on prominent labels like Night Bass and Confession. Embracing a persona reminiscent of the ’90s ‘It Girl’, Nostalgix champions a positive atmosphere within dance music. Her energetic sound has graced esteemed stages worldwide, including EDC Las Vegas and HARD Summer, cementing her status as a formidable presence in the EDM realm.
Ahead of her Ultra Music Festival debut, EDMHouseNetwork contributor Andrea Simon had the opportunity to chat with Nostalgix about her introduction to raving, career progression, and more.
How did you get your start in music? How did you decide that you wanted to become a DJ and producer?
I fell in love with electronic music in 2016. At the time, I was very sheltered. I didn’t go to parties or know about raves or EDM or anything like that. One day, one of my friends was like “Hey, Hardwell is playing at this rave for Halloween. Do you want to go?” So, I snuck out of the house that night. And the rest is history.
Anyways, I went to this rave, and it was at this huge colosseum type place, so it was a proper rave with amazing production and lasers and everything. I remember just being there and thinking, “wow… what is this?” It was like I had discovered a whole different world. I had never seen anything like this before. Everyone around me was wearing the craziest outfits and trading kandi. Everyone just looked so happy. I remember being in the crowd that night and feeling how amazing the energy was. Instantly, I became obsessed with the culture and with dance music and wanted to completely immerse myself in it.
After that, I decided to spend a year saving up all of my money, and just traveled around the world by myself going to as many festivals and shows as I could. I went to Tomorrowland, I went to Ultra, it was insane. One of the shows I went to was Dr. Fresch- and I got this crazy idea in my head after seeing his set that I wanted to learn how to become a DJ.
Shortly after, I started my first year of university for film production at University of British Columbia (UBC). I wanted to become a director. However, it was my first week of school when I had the idea that I wanted to become a DJ. I decided I just wanted to do it for fun, and didn’t have any goals set or anything. I was so stubborn about it actually- I didn’t even want to call myself a DJ. I just loved this music and wanted to learn everything about it. So, I went out and bought a mixer and started teaching myself in my dorm room. I practiced all the time and would send out mixes to local promoters. I decided my goal would be to do just one show, and then I would stop.
When I first started making music, I wasn’t good. I had no idea what I was doing. I was 17 years old and had never even been to a nightclub before to see a DJ set there. But, I kept practicing, and I kept getting rejected. Eventually, somebody bought it and gave me the opportunity. After I played that show, it just snowballed from there. I was getting more and more opportunities and spent the next year djing around Vancouver- my hometown. I played a bunch of clubs in the area and started to become known in the local scene. From there, I was inspired to create more music. I wanted to go all in. After a year of djing, I dropped out of school and decided to pursue music production full-time. And, I haven’t looked back since.
What was your first show like?
It was actually at a bar on my campus at UBC. It was like this underground bar for students with a tiny little stage. I wasn’t even supposed to be playing that night, but I got a call from them that their DJ was sick and they needed me to be there in an hour. I didn’t even think twice about it. I just said yes and ran across campus to get my mixer. It was raining that night too- I was wearing shorts- but I didn’t even care. I was just so excited. I really had no idea what I was doing, like I actually opened the set with the Pirates of the Caribbean theme song. It was such a cool and memorable night.
So, your original goal was to do just one show. How did your mindset change from wanting to do one show to wanting to DJ professionally?
When I first started, I just didn’t believe in myself at the time. I couldn’t see myself actually being a DJ. I thought DJs were like Martin Garrix, Alesso, or Steve Aoki. Not me. But, once I started making music, I realized how fun it was. That’s when I told myself that I would do just one show. Naturally, that one show just kept leading me to more opportunities. I would never say no either. I was having so much fun that I just wanted to keep becoming better and better.
Were you into music growing up?
Since I was a kid, I’ve always been a very artistic person. I always had a very deep connection with music, and have always been obsessed with creating things. By the time I was nine years old, I really wanted to be in a band. I wanted to be a drummer, and I also wanted to learn guitar. I would get my parents to put me into music lessons so I could learn. At one point in elementary school, we had a talent show that you had to try out for. I actually didn’t make it. Because I was so young, I kind of thought that maybe the music thing just wasn’t for me. But, that didn’t stop me.
Let’s talk about where you are today. Has there been a pivotal moment in your career? Like a moment you felt that would change everything?
I mean, my first show is a good place to start. That moment kind of turned on the switch for me, because that’s when I realized that making music was something I could do. Since then, my
career has felt like a very steady climb. It’s been a natural progression really. If I had to pinpoint another moment though, I would say it was performing at the EDC Las Vegas Opening Ceremony last year. I had been touring before then, but this was my biggest opportunity to date. After that set, I noticed everything was moving faster. I was getting more shows, I was getting better placements at festivals, and more people were listening to my music and supporting. I really think that performance is really what pushed me to the next level.
Do you have any new music or collabs coming up that you can talk about?
I’ve really been trying to wrap things up in time for Ultra. I can’t share too much at the moment, but I am very excited to share the progression of my style and sound post EP. I’ve really been pouring my heart and soul into my art and I’m exciting to see where my story continues from here.
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be and why?
I’m going to say Miley Cyrus. I grew up listening to her and I really like that woman has raised me. She’s so lovely. There are a lot of incredible artists out there that it would be crazy to make music with, but I think Miley would really be a dream.
To wrap things up, what is one piece of advice you would like to leave us with? What is your advice to people trying to get started in the industry?
Honestly, just put your head down and focus on the art. Focus on your craft and really hone in on developing your skills, because that’s the thing that matters more than anything else. I know there are a lot of different things being said these days about what you should and shouldn’t be doing as an artist- but there is no right way. There’s no correct sound or style. The best thing you can do is focus on making it happen for you, and don’t feed into any of those distractions.

Dancing Astronaut’s 10 can’t-miss sets at Ultra 2024

It should come as a surprise to virtually no one that March earns a banner of Dancing Astronaut‘s favorite time of the calendar. Productivity has already plummeted over the last week as Ultra gradually begun its construction within the confines of Bayfront Park, effectively green lighting our longstanding tradition of watching the Bayfront Park Live Beach Cam at all hours of daylight.
But before we make our annual trip to Miami for the consensus starting point to the year’s festival season, we always have one priority on the to-do list. Lollapalooza Chicago Reveals Its Diverse 2024 Lineup

It feels like summer already with all these weekly festival lineup drops even though we’re still in March! Today, we got to finally confirm who will be performing at Chicago’s Lollapalooza happening August 1-4 of this year. Set in the downtown Millennium Park, this festival brings together many different genres with the city skyline as a spectacular backdrop. Let’s take a quick look at some of the names that will be flocking to the Windy City.
We’ll start with the headliners! The legendary SZA, Blink-182, The Killers, Hozier, and Skrillex will be closing out the stages each night. At the top of the undercard list, we’ve got Tate McRae who’s been all over the radio stations lately. Zedd, who most likely will be playing tunes from his anticipated new album, Fisher, and Jungle. Mochakk is returning after his 2 sold-out nights last month and Skrillex’s friend, Four Tet, will be coming as well. Dubstep maestros Skream & Benga and Alison Wonderland’s second project, Whyte Fang, will be there too.
Additionally, Walker & Royce, Ben Böhmer, Don Diablo, and Gioli & Assia are bringing the good dancing vibes. Meanwhile, Jessica Audiffred, GUDFELLA, and Nostalgix are bringing the bass! Take a look at the full list below. Oh, and Kesha is performing!
After quickly glancing at social media pages, it looks like most are happy with the lineup compared to the last few years! There are a lot of genres included as well as smaller names that deserve the chance to be heard and recognized. Max Styler Evolves Pleasurekraft’s Cosmic Classic ‘Tarantula’ Into Tech House

One of House music’s biggest emerging names just released a new catchy booty-shaking track. The California-born producer remixed one of Pleasurekraft‘s 2010 classics ‘Tarantula‘. While the original gives out a minimal and eerie vibe, Max Styler‘s remix opens up a different perspective for the song named after the big arachnid. Although his popularity has increased exponentially, Styler has been in the game since the early 2010s. He received early support from the one and only Steve Aoki. From then, he kept mastering his craft to evolve into the artist he is today. His style has gained him recognition among his peers and the audience. Styler has fused the European-based dark sounds and Main Stage energy to deliver a hybrid. With multiple deals with giant brands such as Netflix, EA Sports, and T-Mobile, he is rapidly taking over the US and the world. With support from John Summit, Gorgon City, and Lee Foss, he is quickly becoming a must-watch act.
Styler is booked, blessed, and busy, as he is currently on a 5-month tour through the US, hitting major festivals and parties. These include Miami Music Week, Superior Ingredients, and all three Beyond Wonderlands in San Bernardino, Chicago, and The Gorge.
I’m not a big fan of spiders but for Styler, I will make the exception. Here we go!

In 2023, the music community held its breath as Michael Bibi stepped away from the limelight, facing one of the most personal and daunting challenges yet.  The news of his cancer diagnosis rippled through the hearts of fans and peers alike, casting a shadow over the dance floors he once electrified.
However, as the year waned, a beacon of hope emerged: Michael Bibi announced he was cancer-free and in remission. This signified more than just a personal win; the milestone marked the beginning of an extraordinary comeback – a narrative of a man reclaiming his space on the world stage – not just surviving, but thriving. 
In an unprecedented move, Coachella announced today their new stage, Quasar, and an additional lineup – including the triumphant return of Michael Bibi to the stage in the wake of his inspirational recovery from CNS Lymphoma. The historic 3-hour-long performance is slated to be Michael’s first post-recovery, embodying a powerful statement of strength, passion, and unyielding dedication to his art and fans!
Obviously, Coachella is only the beginning. The exciting news is the tip of the iceberg, following the announcement of Bibi’s “One Life” World Tour. The tour will propel Michael across the globe, including a historic homecoming performance at Finsbury Park, set to be the largest electronic event held in London to date.

In Conversation With pyxis

Entrepreneurial with others at the core of her mission, pyxis is back with yet another stunning example of togetherness, this time with her debut album HEAD2HEAD.
Released as part of her HEADSBASS series, a compilation series launched in response to World Mental Health Day back in 2019, the album sees pyxis teaming up with an incredible line-up of producers to deliver us 12 tracks of gorgeous, feel-good D&B.
The HEADSBASS compilation series showcases top-tier drum & bass from nearly 150 artists, whilst simultaneously raising money for small, grassroots charities that are in desperate need of funds. The project is community-driven in every way possible, and in challenging times, an opportunity for artists to be a part of something bigger than the music itself.
From raising her six kids to bringing new artists into her ever-growing D&B circle, there is no ego nor hidden agenda with pyxis, only the desire to flex her creativity, bring people together and help others grow. Both HEAD2HEAD and HEADSBASS encapsulate this ethos entirely.
We jumped into a conversation with pyxis to get the low down on LP and her plans for the future of HEADSBASS.
It’s great to see so much new music from you recently. How’s it all going?
Things are going really well. Everything I’m putting out at the minute was recorded and then finished ages ago. I had a really quiet year in the studio last year, HEAD2HEAD was going on in the background and I personally didn’t make much music but somehow the release schedule last year was just flying! But that’s music isn’t it, it takes about a year to get everything out there. There’s loads coming out from me right now, something out in two weeks, something out in 6 weeks, it’s crazy.
Your debut album just came out too, which is super exciting. Talk to me about HEAD2HEAD.
I had so much music sitting around and woke up one day and thought ‘I’ve got an idea!’. A lot of people ask me to collaborate because they know I just love to collaborate with people. I really enjoy it. So, I went through all my sketches, bunged them all in a folder and reached out to everyone on HEADSBASS and said ‘If anyone wants to take anything on, be my guest, because otherwise I’ll throw it away’. And that’s how it came about. I don’t know if I’d ever have the incentive to make a full solo album because I just don’t get the time. It would take me about 10 years!
You are incredibly busy, to say the least. What exactly is it that you love about collabing with other artists?
It’s breathing new life into something. You can’t finish every tune you start, and you probably don’t need to, you’d have too much music and nowhere to put it all! There are so many times where I just think: I’ve got something here and I know that it can be finished, but I can’t finish it. I’m a great song starter and absolutely rubbish at finishing stuff! It’s funny because quite a few people that I collab with say they’d love to collaborate so long as they finish the track, which is perfect. I think many hands make light work. I’m so used to delegating in every aspect of my life from being a mum to 6 to owning businesses with business partners. It has shown me that it works. Divide and conquer. If I don’t like the tune I’ll say we’re not there yet or I’m not feeling it, but I’m quite happy to hand over the reins. I love working with newcomers too. A lot of people are precious about that, saying things like ‘Their numbers aren’t high enough for me’. I’ve worked in music for such a long time, I’m not about that. I released IYRE’s first-ever tune, so just because someone is a newcomer doesn’t necessarily mean they’re not going to blow up. I love being part of people’s journeys. Also, my social life isn’t too good. I have terrible anxiety around people in person so this is my way of connecting with people. These are my friendships.
Everything you do radiates community and family. You’ve created something really special with HEADSBASS. 
There is definitely a family vibe between us all. People talk about D&B family but then you sort of think, but you’re not really. Not in the true sense of the word. There are quite a lot of cliques and no way in for a lot of people so I’m purposefully an open house. As long as you have your heart in what you’re doing and the track you send me sounds good, I’ll take it on. I generally don’t reject anything. Music is so subjective. Just because other labels have said it’s not for them that doesn’t mean it can’t be on HEADSBASS. It’s all for charity. A great example would be this really weird track that came to HEADSBASS not too long ago. For me, I thought it was the weirdest track we had, I took it on anyway knowing someone out there would like it, and then someone played it on BBC Radio 1. I thought, of all of the tracks on the album, that was the one that I’d least expected. You just never know. I just whack it all out there because there’s something for everyone.
What originally sparked the concept?
On the Mental Health Day just before the pandemic in October 2019, so many people were posting on social media about the struggles they’ve had with their mental health. It was rife. I’ve always been very entrepreneurial so I thought I’d do something in response to what I saw. I thought about doing a VA and then by the time I’d got all the music together it was released in 2020, when the world was in lockdown, the timing couldn’t have been more perfect. It sort of looked like I’d done it for that reason but I hadn’t. The album was so well received that we had actually had too much music! I thought, I don’t have space on Volume 1, let’s do a Volume 2, and that’s how it went. Everyone just loved the concept. Then all of a sudden there was a Volume 3, now we’ve just finished Volume 13 with Volume 14 incoming in Autumn which is already full of great tracks. 
Let’s talk about all of the amazing charities that you’ve raised money for… 
Across all of the HEADSBASS albums we’ve raised money for 25 different charities! We’re 12 and a half albums in and we’ve raised around £12,500, which is completely mad. It’s incredible. I just literally scour the internet picking charities based on mental health. I’ve only just donated to MIND for the first time since we started 4 years ago because my aim is to support smaller, grassroots charities that really, really need the money. £200 to MIND might not go very far but £200 to another charity can do wonders. One charity that we sent money to bought a whole load of new chairs for their community meetings! The chairs they had previously were so old they were squeaking, it was distracting people. We just select charities and causes at random. I’ve sent money to charities that have therapy dogs, respite caregivers, lonely elderly charities, abused men, homeless people. I’m actually starting to run out of ideas now!
Props to you and the HEADSBASS family, that’s amazing. Why is it important for you to use the money made from music to help charitable causes?
My mental health is ok now but I do have this crippling anxiety that I have never been able to get over. Obviously I have my own personal reasons in terms of anxiety, but it was really from watching so many creatives suffer from a whole host of things. Imposter syndrome, the rejection, comparing themselves to others. That’s only a tiny part of it. Then when people came out of lockdown with so much anxiety, trying to reintegrate themselves into the world. The loneliness. The people that were lost. It’s sort of like, it’s a lonely world and even though we have a community, if you take away the layers, it’s not what it seems to be. That’s what drives me. Artists saying ‘I love this, I want to be a part of it’. They know they’ll probably do at best a few thousand streams because we’re not Shogun, we’re not The North Quarter, but somehow it’s a thing that people want to be a part of. It’s helping artists feel valued and worth something. That’s why I bring newcomers into the fold. It gives music a positive spin and encourages people to crack on and not give up. 
Looking back, has the project lived up to your expectations in terms of the concept and the support you’ve received from the scene?
It really has. I am blown away by people’s response to it. It was just a little idea, I didn’t think it would go very far. Without the supporters and the listeners but really and truly, the producers giving me their music, we couldn’t have raised all that money for charity. I want to say thank you to all of them. The fact that they won’t make any money out of it, speaks volumes. We’ve had 150+ producers and MCs give away their music for free. I’m always telling people thank you but I really am so grateful for everyone’s involvement so far. It’s been incredible.
