WINDOWS TO LOOK IN, a project by the artist Lorenzo Senni, one of the winners of the twelfth edition of Italian Council (2023), the prestigious international programme of the Direzione Generale Creatività Contemporanea of the Ministry of Culture that promotes Italian art in the world.
The project is part of Lorenzo Senni’s research path, which in the past has dealt with themes such as voyeurism and vandalism. In WINDOWS TO LOOK IN, the artist will create a work consisting of 14 photographs and a musical composition, exploring the concept of “false reflectivity”, conferred to the work by the special paint with which he creates the photographed subjects. These evoke the act of looking and looking at oneself, the need to compromise one’s self.
The project originates from a period of research and study in Los Angeles with American photographer John Divola. During this collaboration, Senni deepened his understanding of Divo- la’s photographic technique, which emerged as a significant source of inspiration for the entire project. In particular, the famous photographic series from the 1970s entitled ‘Dead Mirrors’ plays a key role in his influence.
The work will be previewed with an exhibition at the Fundação de Serralves in Porto and the entire project will be promoted internationally through a series of dedicated events, realised in collaboration with the Bourse de Commerce in Paris and the MUNCH in Oslo.
At the end of the international promotion, WINDOWS TO LOOK IN will be exhibited at MAXXI L’Aquila Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, and will become part of its permanent collection. The entire artistic process will be documented in a film curated by Courtney Harrenmberg and a publication that will be presented at the FONDAZIONE ICA MILANO

GETTING TO KNOW (ARTIST NAME HERE)
Introduce yourself and your project
I’m Dmitry Smirnov, also known as Nexxus, and I was born in Russia. My parents were doctors, my mother is Ukrainian and my father is Russian. Generations of my grandfathers were fond of music, my maternal great-grandfather Spiridon Polishuk went through World War 2 and was a famous musician who played wind instruments. As a child, I graduated from music school in the Accordion class and studied for 7 years.
In 2006, after visiting a trance open-air, I decided to become a DJ and began purchasing DJ, sound and lighting equipment. I began organising events and performed at them. Soon, I began to be invited to perform at various events. In the period from 2008 to 2012, I managed to perform on the same stage with many famous artists.
At the same time, I developed a company providing technical support for events. I traveled extensively between 2009 and 2021, spending more than 1.5 years in India, studying spiritual practices and traveling by road by motorcycle, bus and train.
The number 604 in my nickname is not accidental; it symbolizes GOA – this is a special place in my life, where I’ve spent many wonderful days. Geographically, Goa is located in India, and is a historical place where the first hippies founded their settlements back in the 70s and began to live a free life, where, as a result of complete freedom, such a genre of music as Psychedelic trance was formed.
Explain what musical genre fits you best
Psychedelic trance / Progressive trance / EDM
Were you connected with music from a young age and did anyone inspire you?
In the mid-90s, my mother gave me a cassette player and a set of dream trance records for my birthday. A couple of them were DJ Dado and Robert Miles, with legendary tracks known throughout the world.
At that time I was still studying at a music school and, of course, music of this level became something inspiring.

What kickstarted your music career?
One of my friends invited me to an open air in the forest, at the time, I didn’t know that I would want to connect my life with this. The morning after that night in September 2006, I decided to become a DJ.
Tell us more about your sound and how it’s evolved over time
Psychedelic trance has always been the main style for me, because it’s the only music that takes us to the farthest corners of the universe, sometimes abruptly bringing us back to earth and introducing us to ourselves.
No other music does the same, at most other music brings pleasure from listening, but to get the same effect out of trance can only be achieved by engaging in spiritual practices. Of course, I also understand other styles of music, sometimes I play techno, progressive house, mostly more underground movements, but as I say, trance is the main music of my whole life.
Any words you want to share to encourage other artists or producers?
You need to do what you love, what you are willing to do even for free. Sooner or later, success cannot help but come if you do something sincerely.

How do you nurture your industry relationships?
I just make my music, sets and videos, post it online, and then people watch it and listen. Sometimes interesting guys write to me and offer to do something together.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank that’s been crucial to your journey?
I have a team of my friends, with whom I create my channel with. Of course, such a volume of work cannot be done alone so that the result is of sufficient quality. Therefore, I am grateful to my team for their coordinated work and quality results. Also, of course, my mentors, who help me with technical difficulties during the production process.
Name 3 songs you love and what they mean to you + Youtube links
Rammstein – Keine lust
I love Rammstein since my childhood. I have been to their concerts more than once and the power of the energy is simply off the charts. I also try to fill my tracks with high voltage.

Electric Universe – Gaijin Rocker
From the next two tracks I started listening to psychedelic trance, and then I liked the combination of electronics and electric guitar, which of course inspired me to create my recent track “Free your consciousness” and generally make this slogan my motto.

Skazi – XTC

What’s your favourite piece of studio equipment or software?
Ableton Live, Ableton push, Beyerdynamic DT900 Pro, Stable Diffusion, ChatGPT 😊
Name your favourite club or festival and how it makes you feel
Kazantip in general shaped my worldview in many ways, because this festival was a whole movement of freedom and art. It couldn’t even be called a festival, because it was art in its purest form, without any restrictions. The Republic of Kazantip had all the attributes of a real state and absolutely EVERYTHING and more was possible on its territory! Incredible designs, high level of show programs, all the world’s rave celebrities whose names would take several pages to list considered it an honor to perform there.
This event became a significant part of the world rave and was held for more than 20 years. I was lucky enough to visit 8 Kazantips and each of them was different, absolutely indescribable sensations that could only be felt “here and now”. Unfortunately, after Russia captured the Crimean peninsula, where Kazantip was held, the event was stopped. So Kazantip no longer exists, although as the organizers say it never existed, but we just dreamed it all..
The Ozora festival, which is still taking place in Hungary, is of course also a natural phenomenon that is difficult to describe in words, you just need to go and check out the atmosphere. I’ve been there several times and I advise everyone to try it.
Burning Man. This is an event that I have been preparing for for 5 years now, and it looks like I will definitely go there this year. I feel ready for it, and my project is part of the preparation. My move to the USA is also one of the steps on the way to Burning Man. Well, even the longest journey begins with the first step, and I’m almost there. We’ll see you there very soon, in 2024!

Favourite clubbing memory and who or what did it involve?
I have so many of them that it’s hard to choose just one. Perhaps it is enough to visit the territory of Kazantip at 8 am to understand, it’s a pity that it’s not that simple anymore.
What famous quote represents you best?
The hardest thing is to start taking action; everything else depends only on perseverance.
(Amelia Earhart)
If you could play at any venue, where would it be and why?
I think my “anywhere” would be Burning Man, and I’m already playing there. I’m working on Art Car this year, so dreams are becoming reality right now.
Music is….. (explain more)
Music is a universal language through which we can communicate. We may be from different countries, have different cultural differences and skin colour, but music unites us because when we hear it, we all feel the same thing. Moreover, it is not even necessary to learn this language; it is embedded in our consciousness from the very beginning.

One song you really couldn’t live without and why?
I can’t name just one song, because in different situations I can hum completely different songs to myself and there are so many of them that I can’t single out just one. I don’t have a favourite song, I love them all.
Namedrop your favourite 5 artists or DJs (past or present)
Dj Dado, Robert Miles, Armin van Buuren, Raja Ram (1200 micrograms), Electric Universe.

What was your first music memory and how did it fuel your fire?
On any dance floor, the most memorable moment is when it’s just you and the music. Achieving this state is what lights my fire.
Tell us more about your plans for the future
Of course, I’m going to continue to work hard on my content, release music and make videos, and develop my channel on YouTube. I’ve already got a few festival bookings lined up for this year and I plan to perform more in the future.
Any worldly advice you’d like to share?
Life is the greatest gift of the universe. We live once and we need to believe in our dreams and follow them, then we will live a happy life – and the meaning of life is precisely to be happy.

Dutch electronic music producer Eelke Kleijn, famous for his top-notch extended sets in techno and house for over 20 years, has released new EP, Regenerator / Lately. The Regenerator / Lately EP is out on the DAYS Like NIGHTS record label, which Eelke Kleijn also founded, and it is a progressive house EP that allows the listener to feel upbeat, relaxing vibes as the soundscapes surround them. Regenerator / Lately is the first EP release of 2024 for Eelke Kleijn and the artist’s first multi-track since last year’s release of the DAYS Like NIGHTS 2023 compilation album. Click ‘Play’ on the Spotify link below to listen to the two vibrant tracks that will get the weekend off to another positive start.
The Regenerator / Lately EP from Eelke Kleijn will ease everyone’s moods
The first track of the EP, ‘Regenerator‘, has rolling rhythms that provide an easy transition for the listener, especially if they’re at an event where they can get on the dancefloor very quickly from the barstools. This track includes tranquil sonic sounds that also supports maintaining a fun atmosphere as the listeners dance the day (or night) away. The second and last track of the EP, ‘Lately‘, is a much more energetic track as the rhythmic tempo leads the listeners to a state of excitement and relaxation wherever they may be. This track provides a vibe that one can find in classic trance hits of the late 90s-early 2000s, thus it can bring back fond memories for an old-school listener of this track of a memorable time in electronic dance music history. Finally, this EP is a musical release that one should listen to in whatever mood they are in.

True to Joris’ signature style, this track is a crowd-pleaser and emotionally charged dance track that captivates the soul. It is rumored that after the release of Joris’ previous track ‘You and I’ with Nathan Nicholson, he hinted at plans to compile his compositions into an album this year. We eagerly await the year to unfold with new music from our favorite Dutch maestro.
Joris had a handful of releases in 2023 including his successful remix of Eelke Kleijn’s ‘Transmission’ and Marsh’s ‘Little Darling’. David Guetta and MORTEN are back with a vengeance, dropping two scorching new tracks that are setting the stage for their highly-anticipated “Future Rave” musical movement. “The Future Is Now” and “The Truth” see the veteran producers fusing pounding techno grooves with visceral underground elements and speaker-rattling bass lines.

On “The Future Is Now,” punchy synth chords and arpeggiated drops interlock with a relentless techno stomp. On top of that ominous spoken vocals lend the track a deliciously dark, basement-club appeal. Its counterpart “The Truth” lays out Guetta and MORTEN’s mantra with pummeling bass stabs, blistering beats, cavernous sound design, and a hypnotic, vocal-driven breakdown primed to entrance the dancefloor.
“Future Rave” founders are locked and loaded to take their sounds to the iconic Hï Ibiza superclub for a wildly immersive residency experience. All season long, the duo will be going full tilt down the rabbit hole, crafting multi-sensory spectacles awash in the kind of thunderous grooves and mind-bending soundscapes that could only be birthed from the union of two certified legends.

In all my years of immersing myself in the UK music party scene, one truth remains constant: Independent festivals reign supreme.
Unfortunately, more and more of the live event industry is becoming dominated by enourmous companies like Live Nation and Festival Republic and so, parties which were once havens of freedom have become more and more dominated by dodgy corporate practices.

Not even a teeming onslaught of icy rain could stop the Ultra family from doing what they do best: rave.
Ultra Music Festival diehards paid no mind to the torrential downpour, which forced an evacuation on Friday night. Drenched in euphoria and lost in trance-inducing beats, a luminous diaspora of audacious ravers sparked to life across Bayfront Park, their hair whiplashing like diamond dust.
Undaunted by Mother Nature's soggy tantrums, legions of neon warriors turned puddles into makeshift stomping grounds  as Tiësto and SLANDER soundtracked the tempestuous mayhem.

German techno producer Axel Haube has released a new EP called Virgo, including Dreamers, the second song, and a remix from VNTM.
The EP kicks off with the title track “Virgo” and it sets the vibe immediately with these creepy, ominous synth lines layered over tribal-like beats. The harmonies have this haunting, trance-inducing quality to them too. It’s mysterious and suspenseful from the first few bars.
That ominous, heavy groove continues into the second song “Dreamers.” While it’s maybe a touch more melodic than the opener, with some cool arpy synths swirling around, the core of the track is still built on these deep, foreboding vibrations. Haube uses some ghostly vocal samples too that add to the overall sense of dread and intrigue.
Then for the finale, Haube teams up with VNTM for a totally stomping techno remix of “Virgo.” They really lean into the dark, hypnotic aspects of the original, with these winding synth lines that almost seem to burrow into your brain. The kicks are absolutely punishing too. It’s a seriously hard, unrelenting remix primed to wreck the darkest dance floors.
Virgo feels like Haube took listeners on this compelling, cinematic descent into murkier sonic realms. From the cryptic opening title track to the subterranean deepness of “Dreamers” to the sheer force of the VNTM remix, he creates these richly layered, atmospheric techno grooves that just envelop you in their hypnotic grasp. It’s an immersive, almost bewitching EP that looks set to be a real techno head-turner. I’m definitely going to be revisiting this one.

The debut of Afterlife at Miami Marine Stadium, Virginia Key brought far more headaches than beats. The Afterlife event’s thunderous bass lines and blinding light shows kept the neighborhood awake and on edge for two straight nights.
Residents reported that the music was so loud that “It shook me to my core“. It was “just a constant, pounding assault on your senses until 2 a.m.“
Despite attempts to intervene by lowering volumes and dimming lights, the party raged on, much to residents’ chagrin.

Residents of Brickell Key reported that “the vibrations were so strong, I could feel them pulsing through my walls“.
While Afterlife drew a crowd of around 14,000 electronic dance music fans to Virginia Key’s tight confines, that was little consolation for beat-weary residents just hoping for a decent night’s sleep. Many described the overall experience as a “total nightmare.”
Other local residents reported that “the logistics were an absolute mess.” Virginia Key is an island in front of Brickell. It is connected to the mainland by only one bridge.
The lack of logistical planning brought terrible traffic snarls, a lack of rideshare availability, and what the residents perceived as a disorganized operation by festival organizers. The Brickell Homeowners Association dubbed the disruptions “intrusive” and “excessive,” demanding accountability.
Map showing the only access route to Virginia Key from Brickell Miami As the first social events restart on Virginia Key following Afterlife’s tumult, neighborhood tensions are reaching a fever pitch. The community’s tolerance for sacrificing their tranquility, many insist, has finally reached a limit.
The city now weighs how to strike a balance between hosting lucrative events and preserving residential quality of life. For Virginia Key, it seems the sliders may need to be adjusted to turn down volume levels and keep light shows in check.
Commissioner Damian Pardo released several statements on X (formerly Twitter) about the situation.
Similar issues were encountered some years back for the Ultra Music Festival. The massive event in 2019 had to be relocated to Virginia Key because Miami Downtown residents have expressed the same issue as this time.
In the end, a deal has been finalized between Ultra Music Festival organizers, the City Of Miami, and Residents of Miami Downtown to bring the festival back to Bayfront Park. Because of the deal, the festival now follows a series of strict regulations including live noise measurement in the downtown area to keep a balance between the tranquility of the neighbors and the ability for festivalgoers to party.
These strict regulations didn’t apply to Afterlife in Virginia Key.
Otherwise, even die-hard music fans worry the neighborhood’s extraordinary patience with thunderous, all-night parties may soon run out of rhythm.

Fear not, for your favourite U-shaped-logo festival is back on track.
Ultra Music Festival is back! Of all places they’ve thrown a party at, home seemed to be the most challenging in a long while. Miami proved to have adverse weather that felt like would threaten the festival, yet, after sending attendees home earlier last night under strong winds and lightning strikes, the festival managed to get Bayfront Park ready for Day 2 of the massive gathering.
Right as we speak, acts like Miss Monique and KSHMR are already filling the stages with people, mere minutes after doors opened at 4 pm EDT. As the day goes on and is off to a pretty solid start, let’s go through the most crucial events of the past hours:
1. Hardwell’s Mainstage Set, Rescheduled For Today
By far the most discussed subject on socials after Ultra’s early closing yesterday was what would happen with Hardwell. The star was about to hit the Mainstage decks when the whole situation became too dangerous, and so he couldn’t play his set. He turned to Twitter to express how sad he was. “I’m crying right now, 3 months of work by the team and myself. Wow….“.
And while we saw kind souls like Afrojack openly willing to give their timeslots to him on Sunday, Hardwell himself made a joint post with the festival to deliver the news: he’s playing TODAY, from 7:25 to 8:40 pm EDT.
2. Amelie Lens Megastructure Set, Rescheduled For Today
Another act people were eagerly hoping to see was Techno queen Amelie Lens, who was on to close the Megastructure last night. Weather conditions said otherwise. But good news struck again today. She’ll be playing the Megastructure TODAY from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.
3. Chris Lake & FISHER Set Won’t Happe
After the unfortunate cancellations yesterday, the House superstar duo couldn’t close the Mainstage as they planned to. They’ve since made a statement announcing the B2B unfortunately will have to wait for next year.
4. Day 2 Is Extending Hours
Ultra has announced the festival hour of closing will be delayed into the night, for attendees and DJs to make up for lost time. This will, potentially, give extra slots for acts who couldn’t play, either last night, or earlier today. Great news!
5. Set Times For Today
No public information is yet available on the topic. As soon as we learn the schedule we’ll let you know. For now, you can tune in to the different streams Ultra is offering if you’re anywhere in the world. Head to their YouTube channel over here.
Stay tuned for more news.

One of the biggest stars in the world of electronic dance music will get his shot at Ultra Music Festival after all. Dutch DJ Hardwell has been slotted for a main stage set on Saturday night, making up for his canceled performance on Friday due to dangerous thunderstorms that forced an evacuation of the festival grounds.
The confirmation came via X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday afternoon, with Hardwell excitedly announcing “ BREAKING NEWS: @ULTRA MAINSTAGE TONIGHT 7:25 – 08:40!!!!! LFG!!!!!! ”

His scheduled 9:15 PM main stage set on Friday’s opening night of the three-day festival in downtown Miami was one of many that had to be scrapped after severe storms rolled through the area. Organizers made the call to clear Bayfront Park and suspend operations as lightning, heavy rain, and high winds created unsafe conditions.
In the aftermath on Friday night, a crestfallen Hardwell took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his devastation, writing “I’m crying right now, 3 months of work by the team and myself. Wow….“
The renowned Dutch DJ had spent months preparing an elaborate production for his Friday night headlining performance at one of the biggest dance music events in the world.
But Hardwell and his fans will get a second opportunity on Saturday after Ultra organizers worked quickly to reset the festival schedule and grounds following the storm’s flooding impacts.
The rescheduled 75-minute set will take place from 7:25 PM to 8:40 PM tonight on Ultra’s flagship main stage.
Hardwell’s high-energy performance should provide an electrifying boost for the festival after a rough start to the weekend. More schedule updates are expected throughout the day on Saturday as Ultra works to accommodate other artists impacted by canceled sets.
This is a developing story and schedules are still being finalized. Check back for the latest updates from the Ultra Music Festival grounds in Miami.

Chris Lake and his fellow DJ/producer Fisher have voiced their disappointment after severe weather forced the cancellation of their highly-anticipated back-to-back closing set on the main stage during the first night of Ultra Music Festival in Miami.
In a post on social media the morning after, Lake expressed being “completely disheartened” that the duo was unable to deliver their show after months of preparation.
Their set, being billed as Chris Lake b2b Fisher (Under Construction), was one of the many high-profile performances canceled on Friday night after dangerous thunderstorms rolled through downtown Miami. Organizers were forced to evacuate Bayfront Park and shut down the festival for safety.
While headliner Tiësto was able to play, Chris Lake and Fisher were unable to take the stage at all before the venue was cleared out.
DJ Afrojack, who was able to perform earlier on Friday evening before the storms hit, offered to give up his scheduled set time over the next two days to allow either Hardwell or the Chris Lake b2b Fisher group to make up their missed performance.
The house music stars ended their statement by saying they hope Ultra will give them an opportunity to “run this back next year“ so they can finally deliver the unique back-to-back performance they had envisioned.
Several other big-name DJs also had their sets cut short or outright canceled on Friday night’s opening night of the three-day festival due to the inclement weather.
As of Saturday morning, organizers were working to reopen and reset the Ultra grounds at Bayfront Park for the remainder of the weekend after assessing any damage from the storms. More scheduling updates are expected throughout the day on Saturday.

After the events of last night, Ultra Music Festival is still working to get Bayfront Park in condition to open to the public. Constant heavy rain, gushes of wind, lightning, and even a tornado alert, all took part in yesterday’s emergency.
Doors should have opened two hours ago in normal conditions. Instead, what we have is machine after machine, sucking all possible water out of the dancing areas, cleaning mud, and, well, lines of people eagerly waiting to know when — or if — they’ll be granted access to one of the world’s most anticipated festivals of the entire year.
One of the first acts to publically announce their set has been crossed out is Swiss GRAMMY-nominated producer EDX. The artist took to his socials to deliver the unfortunate news.
The post reads: “I’m truly sorry to hear that today’s performance at the Ultra Music Festival had to be canceled due to change of hours because of severe weather in South Florida. I had been diligently preparing for this set for nearly a month, even incorporating some fresh ID tracks. It’s disheartening news, and my apologies go out to all my fans who were eagerly anticipating my musical journey today“.
In the meantime, Ultra is showing an aura of hope in their most recent statement, assuring they’re working hard to get the festival in pristine conditions for a grand opening this afternoon:
