In less than two weeks, JEANIE‘s Into The Dark tour will propel her to EDC Las Vegas‘ BassPOD stage. It’s a fitting locale for her bass-heavy, arena-sized sound, to say the least.
Since early March, the DJ/producer has been traveling stateside, making noise on her debut North American headline tour. The 17-date effort spans a robust variety of venues: theaters, lounges, clubs, and festivals.
“It’s hard to choose a favorite, but so far, my favorite city has been Tampa [Florida] at The Ritz. The venue, crowd, and crew there are always unmatched,” JEANIE tells Dancing Astronaut while en route to tend the decks at this year’s now-concluded iteration of Excision’s Paradise Blue destination festival. “I really think [Tampa] should be considered one of the bass capitals of the United States!”
EDC Vegas is next on the Into The Dark tour’s hit list; like the live initiative, it is a benchmark in JEANIE’s career. And while the Sin City booking adds impact to her festival portfolio (which, in 2023, expanded to include Tomorrowland and Lost Lands, among others), so will her slot at Beyond Wonderland later this June.
Altogether, the tour and its festival performances are powerful signifiers of the appetite for JEANIE’s music. This is no surprise, considering the caliber of labels on which she’s released (Bassrush, Circus Records, Space Yacht, and Disciple Round Table, to name just a few), and the throttling, made-for-the-live-circuit sound that she so compellingly brings to stages both nationwide and internationally.
From her deserved position in dance/electronic’s limelight, JEANIE talks Into The Dark and its supporting tour with Dancing Astronaut. The full Q&A appears below, along with a host of stops still to come.
What is the concept behind Into The Dark and what does this project signify about your sound?
JEANIE: “The EP was born out of a really difficult time for me—there were many days when I considered giving up on the JEANIE project entirely. While it might have been hard to tell from an outside perspective, I felt incredibly lost and burnt out. Once I started to channel that energy into my music, it gave me a new perspective on embracing those confusing periods, hence Into The Dark. This EP restored my love for music production and I don’t think it could have come at a more perfect time.”
You’ve called this EP “your favorite work to date.” What about it causes to rise to the level of “favorite work” for you?
JEANIE: “There have been some releases I’ve worked on throughout the past couple of years that I realized I didn’t feel super connected to in the end. These tracks [from Into The Dark] feel like 100% me. Not only are they the strongest tracks I’ve created production-wise in my opinion, but it just feels like a completely cohesive and natural project overall. I didn’t have to force any of the tracks to work together, which isn’t always the case, and I feel extremely proud of every single one.”
Congratulations on your debut North American headline tour! Could you tell us about your vision for this tour and why right now is the right time to realize this milestone?
JEANIE: “Thank you! This tour has been a long time coming, but after touring pretty regularly the past few years, I finally wanted to do something of my own, and it just felt like the right time. It doesn’t always feel like you can give people the full experience at a show that isn’t your own, so I’m excited to finally be able to show people what a JEANIE show is all about. I have been putting more work than ever into my music and sets throughout the past few years, and this tour feels like the culmination of all of that hard work finally coming to life.”
How has the tour been going?
JEANIE: “The tour has been incredible! It’s been really cool to see a lot of fans, both old and new, in cities all across the US. The most rewarding thing so far has been to see fans coming to multiple tour stops—to know that someone is willing to travel far to see you, especially more than once, is mind blowing. I’ve also been blessed to be joined by Green Matter and TINYKVT on select stops, who are not only extremely talented artists, but amazing people as well.”

EDMTunes had an awesome chat with the one and only KSHMR. He is not only an amazing songwriter but also a talented DJ, record producer, and former Pop producer of a handful of top hits. It was such a pleasure to talk to him!
LA-based KSHMR is back with a massive new release that celebrates an equally significant milestone in the form of ‘Devotion‘, a club record he’s been taking on tour in honor of his 10-year anniversary as a DJ and producer under the KSHMR moniker. Always one to embrace his Indian heritage as well as pay tribute to other cultures around the world, he teamed up with Thai artist 22Bullets for the new track. ‘Devotion‘ fuses hard-hitting basslines with dynamic instrumental synths and KSHMR’s trademark melodies, making for a truly entrancing sonic experience that breaks away from genre constructs and exists in an exhilarating category of its own, all built around the famous sample from Nomad‘s 1990’s hit ‘(I Wanna Give You) Devotion‘. The track has already proven to be a favorite during KSHMR’s live sets on his North American club tour and his Ultra Music Festival Miami Main Stage performance in March, and it celebrates a decade of the KSHMR project since the 2014 debut of ‘Megalodon‘. Thailand‘s 22Bullets has previously collaborated with the likes of David Guetta, Ty Dolla $ign, Fedde Le Grand, and more, and has released music on KSHMR’s Dharma imprint; home to Electronic Dance Music from around the world. Their previous collaboration ‘It Isn’t Me‘ released on the label in 2022.
The Interview
(Please note, the bolded text represents a question, while the paragraph(s) following it represent Kashmr’s answers.)
1. Let’s start by acknowledging an incredible milestone — 2024 marks a decade since KSHMR emerged onto the global music scene. Looking back at your journey thus far, what reflections come to mind, and how do you feel about reaching this significant milestone?
Yeah, it’s crazy. I mean, it doesn’t feel like 10 years. In some ways it does feel like a long time though because I just hauled so much ass, especially at the beginning of the project, making so much music, everything I wanted to accomplish or convey, communicate with the KSHMR project, with the sound I did, and then even did some side quests like making this Hip-Hop album in India. Sometimes I look back on all that and I’m really proud of it. Also, I feel a little exhausted, which is why I’m giving myself this next month in May to just take a break from music. But there are still things that interest me and that I look forward to diving into and bringing the KSHMR sound to. But yeah, I’m just really proud of everything I was able to accomplish with the help of my team. I couldn’t ask for anything more – it’s been great.
2. Recently, you concluded a thrilling North America club tour, culminating in a double sold-out show in Los Angeles. Could you share some highlights from that experience, and what can fans expect from your forthcoming European tour?
Great North American club tour. It was nice to do some stuff in America because I’m often in Asia and Europe. So yeah, it was a big motivator for me, and also to make a lot of new edits, new mashups, dust off the old sets and get rid of some old stuff that I’ve been playing for too long. And reinvent the show, offer people a lot of new stuff. It was great. It motivated me to finish up some of the music that was a work in progress too. So I’m really happy about that. An upcoming European tour, not yet, I just did a bunch of Europe. That was a lot of fun. Europe is always super receptive, they love the harder stuff and it’s one of my favorite regions to play in.
3. Speaking of unforgettable moments, your recent performance at Ultra Music Festival‘s mainstage captivated audiences worldwide. Can you give us some insights into your preparation for such monumental performances, and what it meant to you to grace that stage?
Yeah, Ultra, Tomorrowland, these are the kind of festivals that you put a lot of thought into to make sure that you’re providing something special. You know, not only the people that are there are going to see it, but also people online are going to watch it on YouTube. So, a lot of effort into creating something unique that people haven’t seen from me before goes into those shows. Now, this one in particular had some hurdles because my set was cut short due to the rain. It was cut to 30 minutes. And then when I got on stage, some rain dumped on the equipment. That shortened my set even further. But I was able to hustle and still get a show that incorporated a lot of the music and wanted to play for people in it. And hopefully they appreciate it. It seems like they did.
4. Your latest single, ‘Devotion’, with 22Bullets, has been generating quite a buzz. Can you give us a sneak peek into the inspiration behind the track and what listeners can expect from it?
The song is out now! I think listeners have heard that it’s a sample of an old Dance track. 22 Bullets had the original idea. I came in, did my thing on it, added some sections, added some melody, some music, just classic collaboration. And it’s been a great song to play live. One of my favorites to play live in my shows, so yeah, just really, really happy about that and about the response it’s gotten.
5. Beyond ‘Devotion’, what other projects do you have in the works, and what can we expect from you in 2024? Any tours, collaborations, or exciting ventures on the horizon?
I’m taking a break for May, I’m actually going to drive an RV around the country with my dogs and some friends, so that’ll be a nice little break, you know, just from touring and music creation because between the two I almost don’t have any downtime. So yeah, I’m looking forward to that break and then after that, it’s going to be more tour, there’ll be more music, just the usual stuff. I’ve been interested in Deep House with an ethnic sound which is probably something I’m going to explore more once I get back into the rhythm of music after this break.
6. Before we conclude, let’s touch upon your heritage and your continued involvement in the Indian market. Your album KARAM showcased a beautiful fusion of cultures and sounds. How does your Indian-American background influence your music, and what significance does it hold for you personally?
Yeah, my Indian heritage plays a big role in my music, you know, as you can see by my name, KSHMR, that’s where my family is from, and I love to incorporate it into my songs and in the case of KARAM I even went out to do a whole album out there because Hip-Hop was booming. Hip-Hop is a big passion of mine, and to see that booming in India made me want to be a part of it, and I was very blessed that so many of the amazing artists there were willing to collaborate with me. So you’ll continue to hear that be a part of my sound, not the only part of my sound, but a very important one.
7. Thank you so much for sharing your insights and experiences with us today, KSHMR. We have a lot of your fans asking about you at EDMTunes. Do you have some words for them?
Yeah, thank you guys. I feel really blessed that even after 10 years, you’re still checking for me and I hope to make you proud with the music and the sample packs and everything else that I’ll be bringing to the table over the next years.

For years now, Mau P has been spinning records around the world and making people dance. However, the Dutch DJ and producer is now taking the mic for the first time with his new song “On Again.”
Both Mau P’s own vocals and the famous star Mike Dean can be heard on the track. This important studio master has contributed his masterful synth work to many classic rap and R&B albums, shaping the sound of acts such as Beyoncé, Travis Scott, Jay-Z, and many more.
Mau P’s work with Dean and the addition of his own singing is an artistic step forward. “This song has had such a beautiful process where I feel like I really found a new part of me as an artist,” he stated. “I always felt like it was a demo that was meant for a bigger artist than myself, but after showing everyone the version with my vocals on it it just stuck.”
Dean’s experienced production touch and Mau P’s fresh approach have come together to create a unique sound that has already become a fan favorite during the DJ’s recent festival sets, including his well-known set at Coachella.
“The magic was already there and after getting Mike Dean’s blessing on it, it really felt perfect,” he said.
Mau P takes a big step forward as an artist with “On Again,” which mixes his dancefloor-filling house music with hip-hop style and lush singing. It’s a nice break for his creativity that could lead to new things as he keeps pushing the limits of music.

As a dedicated fan of the This Never Happened label, I wanted to share some exciting news with you. The label’s founder, Lane 8, has consistently provided us with music we love, and artists we cherish. The latest release from French producer Massane’s sophomore album, By The River, features some incredible new remixes that are sure to blow you away.
By The River Remixes
It’s become somewhat of a tradition for TNH artists to release remixed versions of tracks from their albums. By The River Remixed is no exception, and features ‘Craving (Eleonora Remix)’, ‘Back Together (Angara Remix)’, and ‘Trust (Bacavi Remix)’. These new remixes introduce us to three talented artists who bring their own unique sounds to Massane’s already beautiful tracks. Angara, a French duo you may have heard through their releases on Colorize, delivers a melodic techno feel to ‘Back Together’. Their remix has been creating waves on the dance floor, combining sensitive and soothing melodies with engaging rhythms.
Berlin-based singer-songwriter, Eleonora, takes ‘Craving’ for a spin with a fresh techno take on this track. Her dark direction adds a new dimension to the song. Legends like Adriatique, Hernan Cattaneo, and Tale Of Us have played Elenora’s beautiful originals with her vocals. Bristol-based Bacavi releases his version of ‘Trust’. It straddles an ambitious fusion of lopsided synths and evocative melodies while maintaining the original essence of the track. This remix is dancey and fun, perfect for any summer playlist.
Massane drew inspiration for By The River from both the vibrant people and the pulsating dance-floor. His recent tour allowed him to explore new horizons and connect with diverse communities, infusing his art with fresh perspectives and renewed vigour. In summary, By The River Remixed is a wonderful experience that introduces us to new artists and sounds while breathing new life into already brilliant tracks. I highly recommend giving it a listen if you haven’t already. Stay tuned to EDMTunes for all your favourite This Never Happened Updates.

In a momentous turn of events, music owned by Universal Music Group (UMG) is set to make a grand comeback on TikTok following a recently forged licensing agreement between the label and the popular app. This development comes after UMG made the decision to remove its extensive catalogue of tracks from TikTok earlier this year due to the expiration of their licensing agreement. As a result, TikTok users were left without access to the music of renowned artists such as Taylor Swift, Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and electronic music icons like Aphex Twin and Skrillex. The absence of UMG’s music left a noticeable void on the platform, prompting both parties to come to the negotiation table.
Initially, UMG took a strong stance against TikTok, accusing the platform of exploiting its artists and songwriters by offering them significantly lower compensation compared to other major social media platforms. Despite TikTok’s massive user base and growing revenue from advertising, UMG claimed that it only contributed a minuscule 1 percent to its total revenue. However, after months of deliberation and negotiation, UMG and TikTok have finally reached a new agreement that promises to bring back the much-loved music to the platform.
UMG’s Chairman and CEO, Sir Lucian Grainge, expressed his satisfaction with the new deal, stating, “This” while adopting a “undefined” writing style. The agreement marks a significant milestone for both UMG and TikTok, paving the way for a renewed partnership that benefits artists, songwriters, and music lovers alike.
The Fallout: UMG’s Departure from TikTok
When UMG made the decision to remove its music from TikTok earlier this year, it sent shockwaves through the platform’s community of users, content creators, and music enthusiasts. Suddenly, popular videos featuring UMG artists were stripped of their sound, leaving creators scrambling to find alternative tracks or facing the prospect of muted content. The absence of UMG’s music underscored the crucial role that music plays in shaping the TikTok experience, with many users expressing their disappointment and frustration at the loss.
UMG’s decision to pull its music from TikTok was driven by a desire to protect the interests of its artists and songwriters, who UMG claimed were being shortchanged by the platform. By taking a stand against TikTok’s proposed compensation rates, UMG sought to send a message about the value of music and the importance of fair compensation for creators. The move also highlighted the complex dynamics at play in the music industry, where streaming platforms and social media apps must navigate the delicate balance between fostering creativity and ensuring artists are adequately compensated for their work.
As UMG’s absence lingered on TikTok, users and creators alike felt the impact of the music void, with many expressing their hope for a swift resolution to the impasse. The return of UMG’s music to TikTok signifies not only a victory for both parties but also a win for the TikTok community at large, who can once again enjoy the full spectrum of music offerings on the platform.

French DJ and producer Extra Terra has put out a catchy new melodic techno single called “Feel the AGI.” The track features Extra Terra’s signature sound, which is inspired by movies and cyberpunk. It combines hypnotic melodies with driving techno beats.
Fans of artists like Anyma will be drawn to the song’s emotional synthwave parts and wide melodic lines right away. “Feel the AGI” is a transcendent journey into Extra Terra’s dark, futuristic sound world. It includes layered arpeggios and patterns that make you think of digital eternity and simulation theory.
The song combines the heavy sound of techno with the emotional power of melodic electronica. Extra Terra’s careful sound design is on full show here.
In just a few years, the French producer has racked up millions of plays. He quickly became one of the most important names in melodic techno and cyberpunk bass music in France. Labels like Buygore, Otodayo, FiXT Neon, and Firepower Records have released music with his unique style.
The song “Feel the AGI” comes after Extra Terra’s well-reviewed albums “CONVERGENCE 2045” and “PROJEKT 2077.” They both brought listeners in with his unique mix of synthwave, sci-fi cinematics, and heavy bass music.

What was supposed to be another stop on the global touring circuit for British DJ Hot Since 82 turned into a terrifying brush with death at the hands of an armed gang in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In a harrowing series of events in the early morning hours following a gig, the 41-year-old dance music artist Daley Padley and his crew had to take evasive action to escape for their lives after being targeted in an apparent set-up and attempted robbery.
The terrifying ordeal began around 5 a.m. as Hot Since 82 and his team left the Casa França Brasil venue after his performance, heading to the airport for upcoming festival appearances at Warung Festival and Time Warp Brazil. Roughly 10 minutes into their drive, another vehicle carrying masked gang members brandishing AK-47 assault rifles pulled up alongside them on the motorway.
“We were on a busy motorway, the car in front had braked for us to stop, and then the people hung out of the car windows with balaclavas and AK47s,” he described of the moment the attack began to unfold. Thinking quickly, Hot Since 82’s driver threw the car into reverse and raced backwards down the dark highway, weaving through oncoming traffic at high speeds as the armed gang gave chase.
In a scene straight out of an action movie, the high-speed reverse chase continued for miles as Hot Since 82 and his team tried desperately to escape their armed pursuers. “Obviously as you can imagine it was like a scene out of Fast and Furious,” he said. “I’m giggling about it but I am broken inside.”
The near-death experience has left Hot Since 82 severely shaken and rethinking his priorities as a touring artist. As a husband and father with another child on the way in just six weeks, he says he can no longer risk being in such dangerous situations. “I have children at home, my wife is about to deliver our next baby in six weeks’ time, I can’t risk being in a position like this. It’s not worth it, no DJ show or fee is worth it.”
Equally disturbing is the implication from Hot Since 82 that the attack was premeditated, suggesting someone leaked his travel details to the criminal gang. “It makes you lose faith in humanity to think somebody has told these shooters where we are going to be,” he said. “I have had to change hotel rooms and booked the first flight out of here.”
The DJ, who is originally from Leeds, England and founded the respected Knee Deep In Sound label, expressed sympathy for Brazilians who have to live under constant fear of such violence. “I sympathize with the people of Brazil who have to live their daily life like this in fear. Going to a club to DJ should be about happiness and bringing joy to people’s lives, not leaving a club and wondering if I am going to get home safe.”
Unfortunately, Rio de Janeiro and other parts of Brazil have long grappled with the scourge of heavily armed organized crime gangs and drug trafficking groups, who wield immense power and resources. Despite government crackdown efforts, the gangs have continued to expand their illicit operations and grip on entire neighborhoods through sheer firepower and brutality. Their involvement in local communities from a young age has created a difficult cycle of violence and criminality to break.
While he “had such a wicked time in Rio” otherwise and raved about how “the people are amazing,” the traumatic incident has made Hot Since 82 unsure if he can ever bring himself to return to Brazil out of safety concerns. “I don’t know if I’ll ever come back to Brazil now,” he said somberly. “It’s not fair. Humanity is so cruel man. I feel a bit emotional but I am a bit f**kin emotional.”
In the aftermath, Hot Since 82 canceled his upcoming performances at Warung Festival and Time Warp Brazil, immediately flying home to be with his family in the UK. He is just the latest artist and public figure to experience unsettling run-ins with crime while working in Brazil, which continues to struggle to get a handle on the expansive criminal enterprises operating within its borders.
While thriving musical scenes in cities like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo have made Brazil a frequent tour stop for international DJs and acts, this deeply troubling incident shows the very real dangers they can face when traveling to perform in certain regions.

An old favorite from the 2000s is being brought back to life in 2024. Adam Beyer, Layton Giordani, and Green Velvet have worked together to make a new version of Sharam’s 2007 hit “Party All The Time.” It was first released on Armada Music and is now also available on Drumcode.
The first version of “Party All The Time” was a big hit in clubs and on the radio. It reached #8 on the UK charts after its launch at the Winter Music Conference in 2006. Though the song was based on the Eddie Murphy comedy of the same name, Sharam’s production made it a dancefloor anthem in its own right, and artists like Hannah Laing and Ultra Naté have done famous versions of it.
This is now 2024, and the dynamic production team Adam Beyer and Layton Giordani have made a pulsing, high-energy new version of the track. Green Velvet has also added his famous vocals to it.
Top DJs like Armin van Buuren, John Summit, Fisher, Oliver Heldens, Vintage Culture, and Mochakk backed their version so hard that it quickly became the unofficial song of Miami Music Week.
This new version of “Party All The Time” sounds like it’s ready to take over clubs and events all over the world this season, with its constant beats and Green Velvet’s clear vocals. It’s an exciting mix of a classic that makes you feel nostalgic and new production fireworks that will have the dance world partying all the time in 2024.

The summer hit we’ve all been waiting for has finally come out, thanks to the master of house music CHANEY. With a career already full of dancefloor killers, the UK-based producer has outdone himself with his latest release, “I Choose You,” on the prestigious Toolroom Records label.
In the three years since he released his first track, CHANEY has become a firm favorite in the Toolroom, with an incredible 40 million plays on the biggest platforms. But ‘I Choose You‘ might be his masterpiece; it’s a sun-drenched, feel-good gem that makes you think of summers.
CHANEY’s careful attention to detail is what makes “I Choose You” stand out. Everything about the song is his own work, from the self-played bassline that holds it together to the lush Rhodes chords that give it a deep warmth. And don’t forget those beautiful, unique vocals that will make you want to sing along from the first line on.
‘I Choose You‘ is perfect for sun-drenched terraces, Ibiza pool parties, and radio channels because of its catchy groove and contagious energy. In the coming months, this song will likely be played at a lot of great events.
But CHANEY’s rise doesn’t look like it will slow down any time soon. Since he just signed with the well-known UK-based DJ firm Radius, his live schedule is packed with big shows, such as ones in London, New York, and Canada. He’s also planning a tour of Australia.

Eleganto's latest EP, the aptly-titled One Of A Kind, adds a fresh layer of sophistication and raw emotion to his repertoire.
Each of the five songs from the project, out now on Martin Garrix's STMPD RCRD imprint, offers a unique glimpse into Eleganto's musical vision.
"This EP is more than just a project," he said. "It represents my journey of self-discovery, the ongoing battle to develop my own sound, my DNA. To push musical boundaries and break the rules of genres."
From the opening track, "Hot Rush" we're immersed in a captivating blend of enchanting melodies and exhilarating beats that showcase the Spanish producer's fearless exploration of house music. With its haunting melodies and pumping production, it draws you in and leaves you spellbound from start to finish.
That track generated lots of hype when it was featured at his Levenslang set in Amsterdam, showcasing his new artistic direction. The location also has a great story of its own, considering it'ss a former boiler room of an ex-bastille.
Infused with infectious energy and an undeniable groove, "Hands Up High" emerges as a beacon of classic house music rejuvenated with a contemporary flair. A dancefloor anthem in the making, the track's unbridled euphoria is palpable, compelling us to surrender to the music and let their hands fly high in the air.
Elsewhere on the EP, "U Got Me" is another standout, presenting a dreamlike atmosphere that envelops listeners in its captivating soundscapes. The track creates a sense of intrigue and emotion, drawing us in with its lush textures hypnotic groove. Then comes "Sugar Spice," which draws inspiration from the ageless mantra "sugar, spice and everything nice" to take us on a lyrical journey that resonates with warmth and familiarity. Here, Eleganto's production perfectly complements LexBlaze's witty bars and wordplay for a delightful blend of old-school charm and new-age dance music.

Capturing the indomitable spirit of progressive house, Third Party have finally dropped their long-awaited single "Believe."
The track, initially envisioned as an instrumental anthem, has us yearning for the genre's next golden era. Recognizing that the production could soar even higher with the right vocals, Third Party enlisted Raffie, Madeline and Nuala, who collectively delivered an uplifting lyrical narrative that resonates with hope and perseverance.

Garrix introduced "Believe" during his electrifying set at Ultra Miami 2024, sending the crowd into a frenzy with anticipation for its official release.
If "Believe" is any indication, the heart of progressive house is beating increasingly stronger than ever as Third Party and Garrix continue to deliver compelling collaborations. To celebrate the release of his brand new single ‘Lullaby’, we’re thrilled to have a chat with rising techno star BENNETT. His latest single has quickly become a favorite among fans for its hypnotic blend of gentle melodies and robust techno beats, BENNETT joins us from sunny Berlin. With a track record of chart-topping hits and an unyielding passion for innovation, he continues to redefine the boundaries of techno music. Today, he shares insights into his creative process, the joy of connecting with fans through music, and what lies ahead in his dynamic career.
Hey BENNETT, thanks for speaking with us, how are you doing today?
Hey! Right now I’m in Berlin, and for the first time this year the sun is really shining, which is lifting my mood a lot. So I’m feeling great 🙂
Let’s kick things off with your brand new single ‘Lullaby’, how happy are you for it to be out now?
“Lullaby” has become my absolute favorite track of mine ever since I created it. Since that day, I’ve been really excited for its release. So, I’m even happier now that the track is out.
A unique and powerful single, is there a story behind this one?
Since I don’t live in Berlin, I knew a lot of musicians from social media and had chatted with many people I wanted to collaborate with. Three months ago, I went to Berlin for the first time to make music. I messaged a friend called Lavinia, who lives in Berlin and works as a singer and songwriter. I always wanted to make music with her, but it never worked out because she’s in Berlin and I’m not. When I messaged her, we had a jam session that same day, and “Lullaby” was the first track that came out of it.
It’s gotten a really positive reaction since its release, was that something you had expected in creating?
No, I hadn’t. While making music, I don’t think about how it might be received. In that moment, I just enjoy making it and having fun. But when I showed the song to people on social media it was well-received, and I was very happy that everyone else found the track as cool as I did.
This single, and your previous releases, show a side of creativity that you’re bringing to the techno brand, is that super important for you as an artist to bring your own flavor to your releases?
Definitely. I think every musician should try to develop their own signature sound. Once you’ve created your own sound, you automatically stand out from all the other artists, which isn’t easy in the music industry anymore. So, I believe it’s a very important tool to make yourself irreplaceable as an artist.
Also, this is the fun part of making music. I can let my creativity run wild and incorporate my full individuality into the song as much as I want.
Do you have any other cool releases planned which maybe utilize that creative sampling?
Even though “Lullaby” wasn’t a remix of a sample, I’m sure I’ll try sampling again soon, as that’s where I come from. When I was a small artist, I didn’t have the opportunities to work with singers in studios. Sampling was the only thing that was possible for me. While I have other options now, which I’m very grateful for and enjoy very much, it gives me a huge sense of nostalgia. Sitting alone at home with a sample again, and spending a whole night changing it to create something new. I think that will just never get boring.
Moving away from sampling, what is one perfect tune that you don’t feel should ever be remixed?
I think there are tons of really cool songs out there. However, I don’t think that’s a reason not to sample them. It doesn’t always have to be about making a song “better” or “worse.” A good example is the hit “Where Are You Now” by Lost Frequencies. In my opinion, the song is perfect just the way it is. However, Lost Frequencies’ Deluxe Mix is also perfect in its own way. They’re just two different interpretations, both with their own validity.
With the success of your music, how are you finding performing and playing shows as the crowds become more aware of your catalog?
The more I realize that people at the shows know and follow me and my music, the more fun the shows become for me, of course. It’s just a really nice feeling to see that when I play one of my songs, people scream, cheer, and sing along. I noticed that people are becoming more open to what I play in my sets as I’ve gained more of their trust through my recent releases.  I’m super grateful for that.
Thanks for taking the time to speak with us, do you have anything else you’d like to say to our readers?
Since we mentioned it earlier, I want to encourage all musicians, producers, or creative minds here to just do what they enjoy. Don’t let anyone tell you how to make music or what not to do. Have the courage to think outside the box and bring your own style into it.
If you’re not making music yourself but supporting me, thank you so much! I really appreciate it and look forward to meeting all of you at one festival or another soon 🙂
