Less than a day away from its grand opening, the Lovers & Friends Festival 2024 was abruptly canceled. This was due to severe weather warnings. Set to begin at noon in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, the festival promised an unforgettable experience. One with an iconic lineup including Usher, Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, and the Backstreet Boys. However, the dream event for many millennials turned into a nightmare as organizers announced the cancellation early Saturday morning. The cancellation cited safety concerns over the impending “dangerous weather.”
Global Disappointment Amidst Nature’s Fury
The news has left thousands of music enthusiasts from around the globe in dismay, many of whom had already arrived in Las Vegas, ready to relive the hits of the early 2000s. The festival’s rich roster featured legends like Mary J. Blige, Gwen Stefani, Nas, and Snoop Dogg, promising a day of nostalgic beats and rhythmic bliss. Unfortunately, this year’s edition seems to echo the ill-fated beginnings of the festival in 2022, which was also cut short under distressing circumstances.
A History of Weather-Induced Letdowns in Vegas
Las Vegas, no stranger to weather-related disruptions at large-scale events, has seen its fair share of cancellations. From the Electric Daisy Carnival’s main stage shutdown in 2019 to the Day N Vegas festival’s cancellation due to extreme heat in 2022, the city has witnessed several events being derailed by nature’s unpredictability. Notably, Adele’s last-minute residency postponement in 2022 added to the list of unexpected changes that fans have had to endure.
What’s Next?
As disappointment looms large, the organizers have assured that all ticket purchases through Front Gate Tickets will be refunded within the next 30 days. Although this provides a small solace to the fans, the heartbreak of a missed musical reunion lingers. With a history of both spectacular performances and unforeseen setbacks, the future of the Lovers & Friends Festival remains as unpredictable as the weather that thwarted its 2024 edition. With the release of Third Party‘s new song “Believe,” festival season just got a huge booster shot.
Third Party wanted to make a happy, festival-ready hit, and that’s where the idea for “Believe” came from. Even though the beats were heavy and the melodies were beautiful, they knew that the instrumental needed a great singer to take it to a whole new level.
Here come Raffie and Madeline, two incredibly skilled singers and songwriters. The two wrote the song’s original uplifting vocal hook and words, drawing on feelings of hope, determination, and self-belief. Their performances in the studio were great for the upbeat vibe Third Party was going for.
But the members of Third Party are unwavering perfectionists who won’t be happy with their work until it has all the energy and feeling they can get out of it. The singers Raffie and Madeline were great, but they knew they needed one more voice—one that could cut through any concert sound system and hit music fans right in the heart.
Nuala was the only person who could answer. The singer’s raw power and intense performance can’t be beat. Third Party looped her into the session, and she gave a fiery performance that went well with what Raffie and Madeline had already done. The emotional impact of Nuala’s input was amplified by its catchy nature.
Martin Garrix played the first listen of “Believe” at the Ultra Miami set, giving fans a sneak peek at the new single. The song quickly sent the crowd crazy.
The Ultra tease and months of waiting paid off, and now “Believe” is here as a summer smash hit for all time.

Following the highly acclaimed release of ‘Rigor’ on Innervisions back in April, Portuguese-Mozambican producer Trikk now returns to the Berlin-based label for his single second release in as many months, with ‘Luxo’.
Those familiar with Trikk’s previous works will notice a blend of influences ranging from industrial music and post-punk to more organic rhythmic aesthetics. ‘Luxo’ reflects a delicate balance of these worlds. As such, the new song rides the wave along a warm and catchy bassline, accompanied by elements that characterize Trikk’s unique musical approach.
For the track’s artwork, Trikk and Innervisions have worked with Joao Castro‘s The Royal Studio to craft a self-portrait that evokes the true essence of the music. The image provides a foundation for further elements, making a captivating visual narrative that complements the music.
Trikk’s musical identity is a formation of life and experience, bringing his unique image to much acclamation. Behind the name lies a humble (foremost) producer and DJ; one who has made his mark through releases on an exact selection of labels.
His reputation is one of an artist who pays acute attention to detail across every avenue, with his carefully curated catalog of productions getting mighty respect from fellow DJs and music lovers – dancefloors and beyond, all over.

Known for their innovation, Wavedash want to capture the special feelings found in spontaneous moments on tour.
Instead of heavily preparing a live show to showcase their brand-new mixtape Tempo, the trio is instead branding their upcoming tour as a series of parties. They want the experience to be meaningful and personal, something that pre-planned sets simply can't capture in the same way as reading a crowd can.
The format of Wavedash's sets will change nightly, according to the group. With no support announced, they'll perform alongside friends at a number of the events and play open-to-close at others.
Perhaps most importantly, they want each show to remain a surprise. To help facilitate that approach, they're asking fans to cover their smartphone cameras with stickers blazoning the phrase, "Social media? No thanks."
"lately we’ve felt like phones get in the way of having fun, it’s dance music after all and we want to dance with you!!! Wavedash wrote in an Instagram post. "we hope you’ll give it a shot— dance, sing, meet somebody new! and at the end of the day, if you don’t want to, you don’t have to (but we feel like this is the right step for this tour)."

Wavedash's tour is already underway. They kicked things off in Arizona last week and are set to make appearances in Denver, Los Angeles, Seattle, Brooklyn, Austin and other major cities. Those interested in attending can find tickets here.
The group recently released Tempo, a stunning mixtape featuring 12 tracks including collaborations with Flux Pavilion, Anamanaguchi and Madeon and Toro y Moi. You can listen to the full release below and find it on streaming platforms here.

There's always something special about close friends connecting in the studio. G-REX and Sully have found that special connection on their mind-melting collaborative EP Entropy, arriving by way of Wakaan.
Entropy is a powerhouse of sound design bolstered by the veteran experience brought by both producers. Both tracks on the EP are filled to the brim with experimental sounds that are ready to shake any festival stage to its core.
"Smoke" kicks things off, leading us in on a slightly softer note. Waisu's immaculate bars are masterfully incorporated, fusing with powerful kicks and warbling basses found throughout the intro. Both drops are devastating, distorting Waisu's voice while the energy takes off.
"Next Level" begins with a much more ominous intro, allowing listeners to immerse themselves for over a minute before the first destructive drop hits. The second half turns the heat up even further, allowing their distinct sounds to truly flourish.

Mersiv and Tape B have landed on Deadbeats with a career-defining track, joining forces with hip-hop luminary Juicy J for a high-powered bass anthem, "Trippy Land."
"Trippy Land" lives up to its name. Mersiv and Tape B, two rising stars in the bass music scene, push the boundaries of their sound design, adding even greater depth to the hypnotic atmospheres they concoct. The track is entirely unpredictable as Juicy J's distorted vocals lead us through a growling, bass-fueled arrangement.
Juicy J's performance is yet another signature one, expanding on his already impressive discography of electronic music collaborations. He remains as commanding as ever with boisterous verses that should make the track a fan-favorite for both Mersiv and Tape B, the latter of whom has made nostalgic, hip-hop-inspired bangers his calling card.

Luci's new era is here.
The EDM.com Class of 2021 inductee has released a new single, "Drugs," marking her debut on Seven Lions' Ophelia Records imprint. After embracing a more pop-leaning sound on last year's debut album, the track finds Luci jumping back into her bass music roots.
Her ethereal vocals fuse effortlessly with her glitchy production, cultivating a rich soundscape rife with of whirling synths and powerful bass. Luci's lyrics this time around are heartfelt and touching, describing how intoxicating love can be by comparing it to a drug as she looks to maintain the high.
"Drugs" arrives alongside an enchanting music video that further pushes the love-stricken narrative Luci has masterfully captured. The video sees her and her co-star frolicking through a field while the scene switches to a color-drenched room and balcony throughout.

Budakid is back on Exploited with an impassioned 2-tracker. A regular at the Gardens Of Babylon events, Budakid has honed a distinctive shade of heartstring House and Indie Dance which has touched labels such as Permanent Vacation and Berlin’s Watergate. Here, he delivers 2 travel tickets for 2 disparate trips.
‘Infinity’ is a journey in the truest sense of the word. Through an effervescent bass sequence, clever filter control and kinetic drum work, Budakid generates consistent motion from start to finish. Euphoric melodies are layered as the track gathers lucency before a wide-open breakdown renders a patch of interstellar drifting. Distant snares snap overhead as the bass sequence courses into focus, reeling the listener back into the pilot’s seat toward a vibrant conclusion.
‘The Curse’ then illuminates some gooey, 90’s memories. Nostalgic chords are given buoyancy by snappy, Bicep-esque breaks and a pair of synth lines that are braided together – tumbling over one another as they carry the track’s energy.

What happens on the cosmic journey toward the black hole?  What is on the other side of the black hole? Jeff Mills is set to explore these questions through a performance that appeals to the auditory and visual senses.
Since the beginning of humanity, man has always wondered about what lies beyond the Stars. The relevance to what and who we are, but also what we will eventually become and where we need to go. And to exercise our minds for such possibilities, the storytelling of impossible adventures can help us understand how we might manage and exist in such alternative existences and in the least case, stretch our minds to become open and free. In various theoretical possibilities of what could happen if one might physically enter through a Black Hole, Jeff Mills designs conceptual examples for what could happen to Time and Space.
“The Trip” began about leaving Planet Earth and searching the cosmos for a new location to live. Now, 23 years later, we are entering a new chapter of the project where we encounter The Black Hole  “Black Hole”. A black hole is a celestial object whose gravity is so strong that no information leaks out, so it was impossible to observe it, it was only a theoretical existence, but its location was identified for the first time in 2011. The latest research shows that it rotates on its own axis. Black holes are physically contradictory entities that are difficult to imagine, but what Jeff Mills is trying to deal with in “The Trip” also overlaps with singularity, which is the beginning or possible end of time and space. Displayed in 5 theoretical scenarios of what could happen after entering through the Black Hole and exiting on the other side. (Excerpts Liner Notes by Itaru W. Mita)
Jun Togawa was asked to participate by Jeff Mills. She is a vocalist representing the Japanese New Wave, and her emotional songs have an unparalleled impact and continue to break down generational barriers. Not only has she released space music such as „Rise‘‘ (Yapoos), but she also has many songs with sci-fi themes.
For “Contradiction” and “Hole” Jun added the vocals to the rhythm originally composed by Jeff Mills, and the final synth pad added by Shinichi Yamaguchi was edited by Jeff Mills. On „Contradiction“ (Long Radio Mix), he included a guitar similar to the style of Rock´n`Roll legend Bo Diddley, which is masterfully played by Kazuhide Yamaji of the current Yapoos.

After three years, Audio is back with a new album, this time on Blackout. ‘Where The Chaos Lies’ tells a story about AI and the reluctant acceptance of its power nowadays. Those who know Audio and Blackout already know what to expect: an album full of drums, power, and rollers. But there are some firsts on this album, too. It’s the first time he has had that many collaborations on an album, with Black Sun Empire, Burr Oak and Aenygma on the list of features.
With ‘Where The Chaos Lies’, Audio further cements his legendary status in the neurofunk drum and bass scene. After experimenting with his sound on his previous album [Unsocial], we now see an artist who knows who he is, isn’t afraid to take challenges, and is ready to go full-steam ahead. We had the chance to talk with him about this new album, the full-circle moment at the Blackout event on April 19, and how he got into neurofunk in the first place.
What’s the story behind the album?
It’s about the insurgence of AI and how rapidly it’s becoming involved in really intrinsic things, and now creative things, like artwork, videos… It’s everywhere, and it’s undeniable. As a bit of an older guy, it’s about my fear of Terminators taking over. This album is my reluctant acceptance of AI into the world. I used AI to generate the artwork. It’s my image put through the AI machine. It’s my take on what’s happening. To me, albums are always a snapshot of where I am in my life, musically, emotionally, whatever the situation is, because that’s what the albums were for the artists that I grew up listening to. It was like a little time capsule into their world and what was happening at that point in their lives. And for me, albums are the same. This is my seventh solo album. I love the process.
Was this AI theme there from the start of the process?
It wasn’t. I hung out with Black Sun Empire in Utrecht because I was playing at Blackout. They asked me to come a few days earlier and get in the studio. The rest of the artists that were on the lineup back then were there, too. I was there for five days, and I found it super inspiring being around them because coming out of the back of COVID, I had not been in studio situations with people. Being in other people’s studios and talking to like-minded people was nice. I fully admit that before then, I was in a bit of an “I don’t know what to do”-mindset. I felt a bit disheartened with everything, but after those 5 days, the tank was full of enthusiasm again.
Shortly after that, I asked them if I could make an album for them. They’re good friends of mine. I’ve known him for years, and then the AI thing naturally came after a couple of tracks. I kept going back to this same thread of artificial intelligence. It was always around me while I was writing tunes. I started using samples and stuff describing AI. It was like a snowball down a mountain; it became bigger and bigger, and then it’s undeniable that that’s the thread through the album. I don’t like to force things, but I like to see what happens, and I came to the forefront of this project. It all naturally fell into place.
Talking about samples, the intro is one. Where is it from?
It’s from another musician doing an Interview and talking about the process of writing an album. It resonated with me because it’s how I feel. I appreciate the audience and the fact that there are people who enjoy listening to my music. But I would still be here writing tunes and being creative if there were no audience. The audience is not the main thing for me. I do it on my own. I acknowledge the audience, and I thank them, but they’re not necessary for me to be able to do what I do. Throughout my career, I’ve always written what my heart felt. I’ve always made decisions based on what my heart tells me and my gut feeling. I write for myself, and I’m blessed that other people enjoy that result.
You say that albums are snapshots of where you are in your life. What does this album tell us about you?
I’m very comfortable with my position and place in the drum and bass scene. As a young man, I felt a sense of desperation to try and get in there, and then once your foot’s in the door of the scene, you get accepted by people. At this point in my life, I feel accepted, and I feel completely comfortable with who I am within the drum and bass scene, what my role is, what I do, or what I’m known for, embracing that and just running with it. Full steam ahead. I found my place by putting myself in the scene. I think it’s just built up over time. There’s self-confidence, a belief in yourself that only comes with doing something for a very long time. Whether it be stripping an engine down- if you’re a mechanic, you do it hundreds of times by the end of those years. It’s like the 10,000-hour thing. You reach that point where you know you can go into the studio and make a half-decent drum and bass tune. You can go out there and play a good set. Time gets you there. Getting to that point where I feel comfortable has been a slow burn. I feel like I’ve carved my name into the rock of drum & bass. I’ve done my bit. I don’t know if there was an exact moment, perhaps a realisation of coming to the end of the process of this album. It took me 14 months from the start to handing it in.
You talked about how the idea of the album came about before playing in Utrecht for Blackout, and now you’re releasing your album on the same day as the Blackout event… A full-circle moment!
It’s kind of an unofficial launch party. It feels great. I’ve known Black Sun Empire for many years, from when I first came into the scene to when I took my first step on the ladder. They were the first big label that approached me to get a remix, and they booked me. They were always very supportive from the very start of my career. I’ve known the guys for 20 years, so we’re good friends. I released on Blackout number two very early when it started. It feels like a full circle moment for everything, the album, for me to return to Blackout… It’s perfect.
There are quite a few collaborations on the album. One with Black Sun Empire, one with Burr Oak, and another one with Aenygma. Can you tell me more about those?
I have a track with Black Sun Empire because they’re my guys. I had to do a track with them. The collaboration with Aenygma happened through Akov, who is both a phenomenal drum and bass producer and the lead singer of Aenygma. He’s got a phenomenal voice. I’ve never delved into that world of vocals because I want everything to sound how I want it to sound, and I don’t like compromising with people. It’s why I don’t collaborate with a lot of people. If you look back, I’ve done a lot of stuff on my own because I work better on my own. But for this album, I wanted to challenge myself. I remember watching a movie, and at the end of that, they played Black Sabbath’s ‘War Pigs’, a classic track from the 70s. I wanted to do something with that same message but in a drum and bass form. I had this track playing on a loop and then spoke to Akov at a party on New Year’s Eve and said, “Look, I’ve got this idea. I know you sing. Do you think you could have a go?” he asked me to send the idea over and no lie, two hours later, I had the vocals back with with a chord progression to go with it.
Another collaboration on my album is the one with Burr Oak. I’m a big fan of their music. Their album was a masterpiece. I wanted to connect with that kind of newer generation that is coming up into the scene and becoming those big names. It was really cool to see what we could come up with together. They taught me that you sometimes have to throw away the rule book. I got into D&B quite a few years ago, and I got used to how drum and bass sounds, the structures and song arrangements and things like that. Getting into a fixed pattern of how you do things is very easy. With them, listening to their songs, I’ve learned that that doesn’t apply anymore. It’s a free-for-all. Especially with the arrangement of ‘Rave Machine’, there’s no middle breakdown. Rip out the rulebook, throw it out of the window, and see what happens. That’s what I learned.
Your previous album, [Unsocial], came out in 2021. How have you seen the drum & bass scene evolve since your last album?
After COVID, a whole new generation was into drum and bass that had not come up in the scene the normal way, which would be going to raves with older people. That’s created a scene of their own, which is this TikTok D&B phenomenon. It’s great, has an energy, and it’s good. I have to remember that things don’t stay the same. They evolve. Whether I think it’s cool doesn’t matter. The wheel has to keep turning. I don’t like the social side of it, but that’s purely because I didn’t experience this when I was a young kid. It was all about “Does your tune smash? Is it going off in the raves? Are the DJs playing it?” That was the yardstick for how big you were. Much of the drum and bass scene is based on social media and your content now rather than your artistry, music, and how you conduct yourself. For me, these last things are the core and most important elements. I do think there is a place for what I do. There are people who appreciate what I do. There always will be, regardless of what’s happening in the mainstream.
You’re talking about how people used to discover drum and bass by going to raves rather than looking on social media. How did you find your way into the drum and bass scene, and especially into neurofunk?
I’ve been listening to jungle drum and bass since ‘95, at school on the tennis court, smoking cigarettes with my mates, and listening to pirate radio stations, Kool FM, when it first started… When I left school, I started going to clubs with my mates. I’ve always known I wanted to do something with music, so we used to go raving with a group. I’ve literally experienced the birth of neurofunk, with Ed Rush and Optical dropping ‘Wormhole’. That was the Big Bang. I went to the launch party for that album. I bought it as soon as it came out, so my introduction to neurofunk was when it started. I felt like I needed to know everything about whoever was using that sound, what they were doing, when the releases were coming out… It slowly grew. My friends and I used to throw parties, and in ‘98, we booked Ed Rush. In 2000, we booked Bad Company UK. All the while, I was in a studio trying to make tunes myself and DJing. It has always been my dream to be on Virus Recordings. I’ve done three albums for them now. I was the kid standing in front of the DJ booth watching Ed Rush on the decks, and now he’s my friend. Neurofunk met me rather than the other way around. It was meant to be.
What would you tell someone who’s in front of the DJ booth now and wants to get that spot behind the decks one day?
There is so much help online with tutorials. When we had a studio in ‘97, it wasn’t a laptop. It was a room full of machines. You had to know what everything did, and every machine came with a manual you had to read through. It was very different back then, but it’s easier now, which is great. The most important thing is to stay true to yourself and do what your little voice in your heart tells you to do. Be the artist that you want to be, and don’t be persuaded by someone else because it’s fashionable or popular. That never lasts. I’ve been blessed to have a career for 20 years now. I’ve been DJing, producing and releasing records. It’s a blessing that came from working hard and making the music I love… I can’t make stuff that I don’t enjoy. I tried, I thought, “Why don’t I just make something that’s popular right now? I know what to do, so I’ll put it out under a different name,” but it’s just not possible. It always turns into an angry neuro track. That’s just to say, stay true to yourself. Don’t try to be someone you are not.
I want to give a final shoutout to Blackout, a big shoutout to UKF for the upload of ‘Flip Mode’, and a big shoutout to all the drum and bass heads. Drum and bass for life!

In a chilling scene straight out of a horror movie, the renowned British DJ and dance music producer Hot Since 82 has cancelled a number of upcoming appearances following a harrowing attempt on his life in Rio de Janeiro.
Taking to social media to open up about the incident, Hot Since 82 surmised that the attack was a setup, leaving him in an uneasy state of questioning as to who could've compromised his position. After leaving the club at 5am, he explained, roughly 10 minutes into his ride it was evident his vehicle was being pursued by gang members wielding loaded AK-47s. Given the circumstances, the attackers appeared to have intimate knowledge of the his whereabouts.
As the assailants brandished their weapons, Hot Since 82's driver immediately took evasive action, skillfully weaving through traffic in reverse, dodging oncoming cars to escape the ambush at over 60 miles per hour. The DJ acknowledged his courageous actions, saying, "if it wasn’t for the heroic maneuvers of our driver, I don’t even know if we'd be alive right now."
As a father with kids at home and expecting another child in just six weeks, Hot Since 82 emphasized the need to prioritize his safety. He immediately changed hotels and booked the first flight he could out of the country, later sharing his fears about returning to the country. Despite the traumatic encounter, he ultimately expressed sympathy for the people of Brazil, acknowledging the daily fears they face as a result of gang violence.
"Sorry bro. We work hard to get artists here and those things happen," Brazilian dance music superstar Vintage Culture commented on the post. "Hope you are safe; our country is not at all like that, let’s get you back in a better opportunity."

First, the main thing here is no one was injured. As Festive Owl always says, things are replaceable, not people.
Saturday night at Sol Fest Music & Arts Festival in Ponce de Leon in Florida, an attendee’s car caught fire while its owners were in the festival. The fire ended up burning 3 cars total and charred part of another. Thankfully, the fire was not intentionally set. While nothing official has been released, it has been reported that it was started by a battery/device plugged into the car to charge. It began at 2AM EST.
According to observers, the fire was reported immediately and it took roughly 35 minutes for police and fire to arrive. Additionally, it took officials about 40 minutes to completely extinguish.
We’d like to take a moment to stress that we all think about these situations happening but when we’re immersed in fun, music, and the atmosphere, we all have to remember that we are not immune to traumatic and life-altering things like this. Always be prepared and proactive. We are sending love to all those affected and can all learn from things like this.

Setting the tone for summer 2024, Grammy-nominated DJ and producer FISHER is teaming up with the inimitable Jennifer Lopez on an adaptation of the icon’s 90’s classic ‘Waiting For Tonight’, out now on his own label Catch & Release. Known for his wild sense of humour and energetic DJing style, FISHER first burst onto the Electronic scene with tracks ‘Stop It’ and ‘Ya Kidding’ and has since become one of the scene’s most in-demand talents. He then dropped ‘Losing It’, the breakout track that earned him his first Grammy nomination. Singer, actress, dancer, producer, and businesswoman, Jennifer Lopez parlayed her Golden Globe-nominated 1997 portrayal of tragic Latin pop icon Selena into pop stardom. Listen here.
‘Waiting For Tonight’ offers a modern take on the original Jennifer Lopez classic that became a global phenomenon after its release in 1999. The record broke the Top 10 across multiple Billboard charts, went multi-platinum in 5 countries including the UK, Australia, France and Belgium, and simultaneously earned Lopez her first Grammy nomination.
FISHER’s contemporary rendition of ‘Waiting For Tonight’ pays homage to the towering original, a track which, at its time, transcended music culture and marked a pivotal milestone in Jennifer Lopez’s already-prolific career. Tastefully nodding to the cultural renaissance of the new millennium, this rendition celebrates the 25th anniversary of its release in triumphant style.
‘Waiting For Tonight’ kicks off a huge summer ahead for FISHER. In addition to his upcoming Hï Ibiza residency every Wednesday, he recently announced his own day festival at London’s Gunnersbury Park on August 9th with Purple Disco Machine, Vintage Culture and more. Not to mention his upcoming May appearances at his own sold-out Out 2 Lunch Festival with TEG Live and Vodafone, plus TRIIP Festival Malta at the end of the month. Later this summer, FISHER and Chris Lake’s Under Construction show will headline Parklife Festival, following historic sets at Coachella and Hollywood Boulevard last year.

Las Vegas-based artist Decadon drops his debut full-length album ‘Lovely Destruction’, a deeply personal 20-track journey that represents his unique sonic style. He has become known for mixing dubstep and melodic bass with his rock music roots, and the body of work is a dynamic representation of all of the above. From the ominous beginning of ‘Fragile State of Mind’ to the punk-rock lyrics mixed with stabbing bass in ‘My Ever After’ and the ethereal, digitized bass of ‘Talking to Myself’, Decadon‘s genre-bending sonic range is nothing short of impressive. ‘Lovely Destruction’ took almost 3 years to bring to life following the death of Decadon‘s father in 2020, and the depth of his emotions while creating this therapeutic project reverberates through each track. By the closing notes of ‘Save Me’, you can feel the healing that occurred throughout the process of the album, and Decadon hopes that the album will serve as an emotional outlet to others as well.
“This body of work is extremely important to me because it was something my father and I talked about putting together for years. I always wanted my debut album to really show both sides of the music I love. There’s beauty in destruction, even though it’s tougher to see, it’s there. The album truly reaches across a wide range of sounds, I’m so proud of it. This album started as a collection of a few songs I had written very soon after losing my father in 2020. It was my therapy, and then as the music started to flow more and build upon one another, I started seeing a body of work forming.” – Decadon
Decadon, aka Donnie Miller, is an American musician originally from Denver, Colorado and a unique force in dance music. Seamlessly merging the raw energy of rock with the pulsating beats of bass music, he is self-taught in multiple instruments. His intense interest in technology combined with his love of writing and performing music lead him to electronic dance music. He has been supported by industry heavyweights such as The Chainsmokers, Excision, and Diplo, and has collaborated with unique celebrities like Riff Raff, Hulk Hogan and more. His unique blend of DJ performances and live guitar captivate audiences at his shows and festivals. His new album marks a pivotal moment in his career, solidifying his position as a trailblazer in the convergence of rock and bass music, promising a future filled with innovation and sonic exploration.

Hot Since 82 took to Instagram to provide an update on a terrible and scary situation in Brazil. The British DJ had just finished a show and left the venue at 5 AM. They were being followed by a gang with guns attempting to track him down. He claims “We’d been set up” as the gang knew exactly when they were leaving and what car they would be in.
He sadly announced he would be canceling the rest of his shows and festival appearances at Time Warp and Warung in Brazil. Luckily for him and us, he had one of the best drivers you could have. The driver went to the other side of the road and began weaving in and out of traffic at 60-70 MPH. This did not stop the gang from continuing to pursue Hot Since 82 and his crew.
Luckily, they finally escaped and made it to the airport. He stated in his video he is “broken inside” and he flew home to his wife and children. We can’t believe he was put in this situation and most likely set up as well. We are glad though he is safe and home.

Forever in our hearts, and in Joel’s too.
Melancholy and a hinge of bittersweetness hit deadmau5 Trivia connoisseurs this past weekend at the Brooklyn Mirage, venue which was graced by the mouse-helmet legend’s most recent tour date, retro5pective: 25yrs of deadmau5. While his show’s title nods to the past and promises to be a walk down Memory Lane, Joel, being the multifaceted artist he is, was sure to tease new and unreleased material, test it even. And that’s how this song came to the speakers.
‘input_output’
deadmau5 allegedly wrote this ID as a tribute to the life and legacy of Garrett Lockhart, known professionally as i_o. For those who didn’t get to know him, he was an absolute legend of Techno, having one of the most rocket-like rises to fame I can remember. He was just that good, dropping bangers far and wide, and captivating audiences from a handful of homes and labels. Although I met him through his remix of Above & Beyond’s ‘Alchemy’ — which I’m lucky enough to say I heard live as an ID back in 2019 —, one of the circles he was the closest bonds with was mau5trap.
i_o. We sadly lost Garrett in 2020 to complications with his Hashimoto Thyroiditis, an autoimmune disease he suffered. In times when music became an essential part of our locked-down lives, his passing made the world even more grim and grey for a while. We, his fans, friends, family, all felt the silence so loud. As fast as he’d come to grace our lives, he was gone.
Among the many artists who publicly spoke in memory of i_o, deadmau5, mau5trap label head and close friend of his, memorably dedicated an entire mixtape to his work in late 2020. But also, he created ‘input_output‘ to honour Garrett’s life.
retro5pective in Brooklyn
Although an unreleased track for at least two years, attendees of his NYC retro5pective gig might have spotted Joel himself throwing his heartwarming tribute at the show. Here’s a clip of that:
And even though it won’t change things and the void Garrett’s absence left in the Dance music industry, it does warm our hearts a fair bit to acknowledge people still remember him, his work, and his way. It’s quite more than just a bittersweet tear rolling down your cheek.
On a side note, the internet — as unexplainable as it often is —, somehow holds a clean version of ‘input_output’ for the world to enjoy. In true deadmau5 fashion, just press play and let the saws fly you away. It is a beautiful track, for a beautiful soul.
Stay tuned to our page for the latest news and views from our beloved industry.
