Thirteen years ago, David Guetta and Sia unleashed ‘Titanium,’ a track that exploded onto the music scene and forever changed the landscape of dance and pop music. As we explore this significant moment, it is apparent that ‘Titanium’ has evolved into more than just a song. It is an ode about power and determination that inspires listeners worldwide.
‘Titanium’ emerged at a critical time for both artists. It solidified Guetta‘s image as an influential artist in the EDM scene, while it propelled Sia into the global music spotlight. The collaboration combined Guetta‘s incredible producing abilities with Sia‘s powerful, passionate vocals to create a track that’s both sonically astounding and emotionally moving.
The song’s lyrics explore themes of inner power and defiance. The chorus, with the now-iconic phrase “You shoot me down, but I will not fall, I am titanium,” has become an inspiration for many who struggle with their own battles. Sia‘s performance imbues the words with emotional vulnerability, deepening the song’s message of empowerment.
‘Titanium’ immediately achieved global fame. It reached the top ten ranking in several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia, and was certified multi-platinum. The track’s success was made possible by its visually stunning music video, which depicts a young boy with supernatural abilities fleeing those who fear him. This story of misunderstood power echoes the song’s themes, offering a new dimension of significance for viewers.
Critics commended ‘Titanium’ for its powerful blend of David Guetta‘s production and Sia‘s vocal performance. It established a new standard for EDM-pop collaborations and influenced the genre’s evolution in subsequent years. The song has been covered, remixed, and reinterpreted numerous times, indicating its ongoing popularity and adaptability.
Since its release, ‘Titanium’ has been a mainstay in both pop and EDM playlists. It continues to uplift and motivate listeners, reminding them of their own inner strength. As we celebrate its anniversary, we recognize not only its success, but also its permanent impact on music and its deep message, which continues to speak just as strongly now as it did in 2011.

The 2010s were a time when EDM went mainstream. Las Vegas dayclubs were buzzing in the summertime, featuring several EDM DJ producers. Afrojack and Steve Aoki were a significant part of this emerging scene. Afrojack had a summer residency at Encore Beach Club, while Steve Aoki was a regular at Wet Republic.
Today, ‘No Beef’ turns 13 years old. Where does time go?! Afrojack released the track as a single, and Steve Aoki later included it as a bonus track on his Wonderland album in 2012. This single was the first of now five collaborations between Afrojack and Steve Aoki, solidifying their “bromance.”
The music video for ‘No Beef’ also debuted their moniker “Afroki”, combining “Afro” from Afrojack and “ki” from Aoki. The bromance between these two was further cemented with both producers getting matching ‘No Beef’ necklace tattoos confirmed in the video. Aoki secretly recorded parts of the video with his cell phone at a Las Vegas gift shop, adding to the track’s summertime vibes. The bromance between these two is evident in the video, showcasing how great EDM can be when two legends come together. Here’s to hoping for more future collabs with Afroki down the road.

Oscar Kenny, known by his moniker Bypass Music, is a rising star in the electronic music scene. With his debut EP, he has managed to create a unique blend of ambient textures and emotional depth that resonates with listeners on a personal level. Based in Leeds, Oscar has been honing his craft since his early teens, spending countless hours in his home studio. In this exclusive interview, we dive into his creative process, inspirations, and plans for the future.
What are you up to now?
I’m in the studio in my back garden here in Leeds. I’ve spent every evening here from the age of 13 to 20. It’s covered in equipment and a bit of a mess right now, but it’s my creative space.
What’s the setup like?
I’m using Logic with HS5 speakers. It’s a basic setup, really. I just have a standard Focusrite interface and a decent microphone. Nothing too fancy, though I wish I had some Apollo sound cards and some Yamahas though.
Is it important to have a space like this?
Yes, it’s very spiritual here. It feels natural to make music in this space. It’s one of the only rooms where I can fully be myself. Sometimes working in the studio feels like an extension of who I am.
What got you into music production?
I started making beats on GarageBand when I was like 10 and then that turned into Logic by the time I was 13. And then my dad is a writer and producer as well. So, we’ve always had the studio in the garden. When I got to 13 instead of going out with my friends, the first year of high school, I used to spend most of my evenings in the studio. Back then I was trying to do the whole Martin Garrix thing, you know, the super big room, dance-pop scene. I wasn’t trying to make anything original; I was just trying to emulate it.
Then when I was 14, I started engineering and producing for local rappers from Leeds. But I just spent a big, big portion of my teenage years doing that. But yeah, I am. I used to have something I can quite vividly remember. Actually, I used to obviously do all these sessions with rappers and it was a way of making money and it was never really a thing of pure passion. However, I can remember as soon as I was left in the studio by myself, I used to have this craving of I want to make some shit that gives me goosebumps or something I’m going to feel emotionally. And then that’s when I started doing the low-fi-esque garage thing that I feel like I’ve got going on at the moment. It was a way to make money rather than a passion project, but it was during these sessions that I began to seek that feeling of creating something that gives you goosebumps.
Did you feel misdirected starting off?
Absolutely.  I think it was difficult because you know, my whole purpose for making music is to get goosebumps and I only really get that from emotional music and then when you’re in a room of 5 to 6 rappers and you know, you’ve got to make the hardest drill beat that they’ve ever heard. I feel like it put me in a position where I felt like I wasn’t sure where I was going to go. I felt slightly misunderstood when I was in sessions with other people. Hence why I spent most evenings out here by myself for a lot of years just you know, after searching for that feeling of getting goosebumps just from music. Making beats for a group feels like a live performance. When COVID lockdown happened, I couldn’t do that anymore. That’s when I got really involved in my own music and sound, exploring it without anyone looking over my shoulder.
Did you enjoy making rap beats?
I feel like that whole time of working with rappers was interesting just because you know, when you’re in a room full of sometimes like 5 to 10 artists and you’re on the buttons and you’re the engineer. You got to kind of keep everybody engaged. And I found ways of doing that might be, I don’t know, manipulating the beat at certain points, manipulating the voice, punch lines and stuff. I found it quite endearing because every single time you’ve almost slightly felt like a live performance in a strange way because if you’ve got the song there, the vocal is mixed, instrument was all sitting nice and then I used to take it upon myself to try and gas everybody up that was in the room. It was an interesting time.
Tell us about Bypass Music.
Bypass Music is my first EP, a 6-track project that took about a year and a half to produce. It feels like a coming-of-age EP, reflecting four years of feelings, fears, and insecurities. The first song I wrote for it, ‘Strangers’, is about a panic attack and feeling awkward as a teenager. It captures that phase of growing up and becoming an adult.
I just started writing my own songs in the studio and because I had nobody around me to influence what I was working on. I think it was just like originally me for the first time. And then when I realised, I could do that. I just became hellbent on making a project that felt like me, but I feel like that took a long time to do the run around I’ve made in the projects I’ve made. From instrumental dance projects to full on folk singer-songwriter projects. And then I think when I landed on Bypass Music I think that was the first time when I thought, you know, I actually am ready to put some music out there. Cause I’m, as you can probably tell, I’m not a very social person and I’m quite an anxious individual. And so, the thought of putting music in the world has always felt, you know, like it was going to be something quite difficult. But I think because I’m so proud of the music now because I do genuinely believe it is a true reflection of me. It’s not actually as difficult as I thought it was going to be.
How did you shape your sound?
I’m inspired by bedroom pop artists like Clairo, who make understated indie music. I’m quite fascinated by the concept of bedroom pop music. These records, while great pop songs, are created in a very understated and lo-fi manner because many of these kids genuinely make them in their bedrooms. This aesthetic has subtly influenced my dance production, as I love the idea of bedroom garage music.
Unlike those who enjoy raves and clubs, I’m more of a listener. I prefer to sit by myself and dance away. This preference for solitude reflects in my music, making it quite emotional. I’m always searching for that ‘goosebumps’ feeling, where a song feels so right that it almost makes you want to cry, even if it’s not sad. I’m addicted to that feeling and it drives me to the studio, sometimes even losing sleep over it. This passion is incredibly important to me.
Hearing Burial for the first time really captured that sound for me. My music is quite emotional. My main aim is always to try to give the listener goosebumps. It’s difficult to do but when you achieve it it’s a great feeling.
What songs have given you these goosebumps?
Prince’s ‘I Feel for You’ and The 1975’s ‘Robbers’ have overwhelmed me.
You seem to be more inspired by the live music scene rather than the electric music scene. Do you feel like an outsider in the scene?
For sure. I’m an indie artist making electronic music. The fundamentals are there, but if you create a garage beat over a song, it doesn’t necessarily make it a garage track. My projects dance around dance music and are more suited for introverted listeners rather than for the club.
What’s your songwriting process like?
For Bypass Music, everything starts with ambience.
That’s very unusual for a producer. How did that happen?
I’m a big fan of Brian Eno and create a lot of ambient sounds using guitars with reverbs, doublers, and octave pedals. It’s about capturing textures and creating a space. I love trying to capture the environment I’m in when I make music.
So you produce, make beats, write songs. When did you start singing?
I started singing when I was about 13, writing lyrics and recording them. I’m quite impatient in the studio, and it often feels like a blur. I focus on the feeling of the music, listening to it until I hate it.
Who would be your ultimate collaboration?
I’d love to collaborate with George Daniel from The 1975. Also, Amber Bayne. Their music combines electronic and pop elements with a leftfield, abstract perspective, which I love.
Where did you get the name Bypass from?
It’s a mix of two things. My best mate lives in a village near Manchester, and we spent a lot of time on the bypass listening to music and writing songs. I also live next to a bypass and would record the ambient sounds. Inspired by Brian Eno’s “Music for Airports”, I wanted to create “Music for the Bypass”.
Would you perform as a band in the future?
Yeah, for sure. That’s the plan. I don’t see myself as a singular producer or DJ like Fred Again. I want to feel more like a shoegaze band.
What’s on the horizon for Bypass?
The rest of the songs from the EP will be released soon. I’m working on a lot of music, ranging from singer-songwriter to grunge sounds. I like the idea of reinventing myself for each project, much like Bowie and Prince did. Each project is an opportunity to create a cohesive space, rather than just a song.

GRAMMY award-winning producer, Purple Disco Machine, returns with a new single titled ‘Beat Fantasy‘. You may have heard him drop it last weekend at Defected Croatia or at Tomorrowland. We see its release on Defected and it showcases the signature PDM aesthetic in all its glory. Yes, the hard-hitting one-man disco army continues to slay with his infectious sound elevated by choir-like harmonies. This latest release perfectly encapsulates his signature club sound, creating a playful and undeniably PDM-esque dancefloor anthem.
The track carries the same catchy melody that repeats throughout the entire way as you listen. His jumpy bassline keeps your body grooving as you reach for your sunglasses and rock out all summer long. What’s more, the catchy vocal sample “let the beat control your body” echoes in your ears, builds anticipation, hypnotizing you into a disco frenzy, as the beat explodes into a euphoric synth-driven drop. Piontek is perfect for your summer playlist, as his deep funk reigns supreme in vibes. ‘Beat Fantasy’ is a little bit harder in tone than his previous tracks, but the attitude is very much the same. Funky, fresh, and frenetic. This single pairs nicely with ‘Bad Company‘.
About Purple Disco Machine
Tino Piontek is a global icon renowned for his distinctive sound and visual style. From humble beginnings as a pre-teen in a record shop, PDM now captivates audiences worldwide with a string of unforgettable hits. He has collaborated with music icons like Nile Rodgers, Shenseea, and Duke Dumont. Not to mention, his recent remix of Wolfram & Josh Ludlow’s ‘YoYo Disco’. He solidifies his status as a dance music powerhouse. His electrifying performances, blending electro, funk, and nu-disco, have graced the world’s most prestigious clubs, including Hï Ibiza and Ushuaïa Ibiza. The “unassuming, driven, grown-up nerd” is sure to blow up the world’s dancefloors with a high-stepping, groove-laden disco arsenal.
Lastly, he releases this single ahead of his Paradise album, which is available on September 20th. You can pre-order the album here.

Burning Man is just a few weeks away, and ticket sales aren’t looking great. Last year, they of course had their infamous fiasco where no one could leave the event due to poor weather. Some escaped including Diplo and Chris Rock by walking across the ruined playa. Festivalgoers had to stay in their campsites, save food, fuel, and water, and keep their electronics covered. Fortunately, after a few bad days and numerous rumors including an ebola outbreak, attendees were able to leave Black Rock City.
This year, ticket sales have not been hot. Burning Man Project organizers are implementing an unprecedented move to sell tickets. Now even if you didn’t pre-register, you can still buy tickets on-demand through the OMG Ticket Sale. Typically tickets are not available this close to the event, which begins on Aug. 25. Tickets start at $575 before taxes and fees.
Marian Goodell, CEO of Burning Man Project, had this to say in a press release:
We really hope the playa stays in great condition for burners this year. Unprecedented rain would be another heavy blow to the community.

After a half-decade devoid of new music, Knife Party are sharpening their blades.
Comprising Pendulum members Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, the iconic electronic music duo this week teased their first new original music in over five years. Knife Party's last record came back in July 2019, when they released the scintillating Lost Souls EP.
Ready to cut deep into the hearts and minds of fans, it seems Swire and McGrillen are poised to remind us all why they earned their name. The duo took to X to reveal they're working on new bass music by sharing a meme featuring the viral Turkish sharpshooter Yusuf Dikeç, whose casual nonchalance with his pistol has captivated viewers of the Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
"Knife Party cooking..." the post reads.
Despite the five-year break, Knife Party remains one of the world's most influential electronic music acts. From the cyber-paranoia of "Internet Friends" to the incendiary "Bonfire," the duo's innovative fusion of electro house and dubstep has redefined genre boundaries for over two decades and inspired a new generation of music producers in their wake.
It's important to note that Swire and McGrillen have not formally announced the release of new Knife Party music at the time of this writing. Check out their post below.

The duo took to socials to tease the idea, and people went wild.
Knife Party. You’ve heard of them. They broke the internet over ten years ago with their massive hit track ‘Internet Friends‘, and they continued to grace the world with pyro-worthy, festival-sized anthems for the years following. This includes ‘LRAD’, ‘Antidote’ — the renowned Swedish House Mafia collaboration —, ‘Bonfire’, and many more.
The duo, comprised of Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen, two members of the Drum and Bass band Pendulum, has amassed a huge following over the years due to their electric and pointy sound, one that has become synonym with Electro House, Dubstep, UKF, and so many other concepts. And just like they broke the internet a decade ago, they might have the potential to do it yet again.
New Music On The Horizon
Earlier this week, Knife Party took to X/Twitter to share a single meme. Using a template that’s made headlines far and wide this Olimpic Games season, the boys posted the following picture, without any text caption:
Of course, the reactions started coming like a wave. Users from all over claiming this to be real, and to come fast, and to be an album… in the end, the greater picture is that Knife Party’s following is still alive, breathing, and so ready to hear what’s coming up on their alleyway. And we are too.
After iconic performances such as their Ultra Miami 2016 closing act at the Mainstage, which involved a Pendulum reunion and encores with guitarist Tom Morello and deadmau5, and Swire’s recent appearance at the Tomorrowland Mainstage for a live performance of his new track with Armin van Buuren, we can’t predict what exactly the guys at Knife Party have for us, but we expect it to blow us out of the water — as per usual.

As one part of the famous nightclubs ‘fabric25’ celebrations, Fabric have extended their relationship with Martin Audio by announcing a substantial upgrade to their flagship Room 1.
The upgrade will involve an overhaul of the Martin Audio W8C system and the installation of more subwoofers.

Tech Manager Matt Smith commented “unanimous that we should renovate in order to retain our signature Martin Audio sound and preserve what is quite a historic installation,”
He continued to state –
“The new system delivers a lot more power, and with the power availability of the new amps, we’re never going to get near peaking, It’s very clean, tight and punchy, but it’s not about volume for us, we want to keep it sounding good rather than loud.”

This upgrade comes just in time for the club’s 25th birthday, which will be marked with a colossal 30-hour, non-stop party taking place across October 12 to October 14  with sets from Ricardo Villalobos, Sedef Adasï, FJAAK, Ben UFO as well as fabric residents Craig Richards, Josh Caffé and Anna Wall, with more to be announced.

It’s like we’ve all been given an all-access pass to the OVO vault! Unreleased Gems: Who knows what other surprises are hiding in those folders? Demos? Scrapped collabs? The possibilities are endless! Fan Reactions
The Twitterverse (or should I say, X-verse?) is losing its collective mind. One fan summed it up perfectly: “BROS JUST FEEDING US BANGERS FOR FREE. DRAKE’S THROWAWAYS COULD FEED A WHOLE NATION.” And honestly? They’re not wrong.
Why This Matters
In an era where artists are becoming increasingly guarded with their work, Drake’s move is revolutionary. It’s a massive flex that screams, “I’ve got hits for days, and I’m not afraid to share them.” It’s generosity on a scale we rarely see in the music industry.
What’s Next?
Now, it’s our turn to dive in. OVO Sound has posted a link to a website containing all this new material, so grab your hard drives and clear your schedules. We’ve got some digging to do!
Drake might have had his ups and downs this year, but this drop? This is him reminding us all why he’s still at the top of the game. It’s not just music; it’s a cultural event.
So, what are you waiting for? Go explore those 100 gigs and let us know what hidden gems you find. Drake season is in full swing, and we’re here for every second of it!

Eden Ibiza, one of the hottest music venue labels on the Balearic island itself, has announced a new venue, ‘NOSPACE’. This new party hotspot NOSPACE launched on this past Friday and it comes after Eden Ibiza had to pull out its Space Ibiza residency because of a legal dispute about the ‘Space’ trademark rights. According to Mixmag‘s article about the annulment of the Space Ibiza trademark, the commercial court in Valencia came to a decision where it annulled Space Ibiza’s owner and founder Pepe Roselló‘s trademark in favor of the Matutes family, who also own Fiesta Hotels & Resorts SL. As a result, Eden Ibiza had to change its well-known 24-hour residency title and furthermore, it also came out with a new logo for NOSPACE, which marks a new era for this world-famous nightclub.
Eden Ibiza affirms commitment to ensure NOSPACE remains a Friday night hotspot
The Eden Ibiza owner stated his affirmation that NOSPACE remains an awesome place for clubbers to continue genuinely feel great vibes. He stated, “Due to the ongoing battle to keep our Friday night presence in San Antonio, we believe it’s crucial to launch NOSPACE to protect this vital part of the Ibiza clubbing scene. Fridays at Eden are more than just a night out; they’re a tradition that defines the Ibiza experience for many and a home to a global community of clubbers.”
The first night of NOSPACE will commence on August 9th and the first season of this exciting venue will conclude on October 4th. Lollapalooza announced its Main Stage is entirely battery powered including audio, lighting, video, and stage production. They are setting the precedent for festival sustainability. Live Nation’s sustainability initiative Green Nation, T-Mobile, and CES Power worked together to help Lollapalooza make history as the first major U.S. festival to power its main stage from a hybrid battery system.
The hybrid-powered stage will deploy over 1.5 MWh of battery storage capacity, minimizing the run time of biodiesel generators and resulting in significant fuel and emissions savings. It also had local benefits with reduced noise and air pollution leading to a better experience for all. They plan to share the results and learning from Lollapalooza for the rest of the festival world to learn from.
This year’s festival featured an activation from conservation organization Re:wild, which became an official global Lollapalooza partner earlier this year. The organization was founded by a group of renowned conservation scientists, together with Leonardo DiCaprio, to speak directly with music fans and educate them on ways to rewild their daily lives and communities.
Lollapalooza has a stacked lineup this year including SZA, Blink-182, The Killers, Hozier, Skrillex, Tate McRae, Zedd, Fisher, Four Tet and so many more.

Twitch is celebrating the launch of its new DJ category by virtue of a worldwide, 24-hour streaming event, according to a blog post from the company.
Scheduled for Thursday, August 8th, the virtual event will feature a headlining DJ set by Zedd. The superstar producer is set to broadcast live from Brooklyn, where he'll play brand-new music from Telos, his first album in nearly a decade. ZHU, Sofi Tukker, Sam Feldt, Aluna, Cheat Codes and EDM.com Class of 2024 star HoneyLuv will also perform, among others.
It's a big moment for Twitch, with whom DJs have locked horns for years due to the pervasive risk of takedowns, bans and muted content. The platform had consistently found itself in hot water after issuing rampant DMCA takedown notices to legions of its users, who were unwittingly playing songs in their streams without the rights to do so by virtue of the service's business model.
Twitch in June announced landmark licensing deals with UMG, Warner, Sony and "hundreds" of independent music rightsholders. The agreements precipitated the launch of the "Twitch DJ Program," which enables DJs to legally play copyrighted songs in their streams and collect royalties.
They can now sign up for the program, which provides a catalog of music for them to legally use in their streams as well as a list of restricted artists.
"Today's DJ category launch is a major moment for Twitch, the music industry, and our creators," Twitch CEO Dan Clancy said in a statement. "There is something special in the way DJs on Twitch introduce music to their listeners. It’s personal and it’s community-oriented, so we've built a stable, long-term home where they can invest in building their brand and community."
Learn more about Twitch's new DJ category here and check out the full lineup for the August 8th stream below.
