Moog Music announces the release of Spectravox, a semi-modular analogue spectral processor designed to broaden the horizons of musical expression and sound design. Spectravox is now available globally, offering a unique blend of classic Moog sound manipulation with cutting-edge features.
Spectravox joins Moog’s esteemed semi-modular family as a groundbreaking tool for auditory exploration. At its core, a visionary 10-band filter bank, paired with a robust analogue Moog oscillator and a dynamic white noise generator, forms the backbone of this versatile spectral processor. Spectravox is not just an instrument; it’s a portal into uncharted sonic realms, offering lively drones and colourful tonal sweeps that breathe life into any sound composition.
In 60HP format, Spectravox excels both as a standalone synthesizer and an integrative component in expansive Eurorack setups, providing unparalleled control over tonal shaping and spectral movement. With its dual-mode functionality, it is able to transform from a powerful synthesizer voice into a fully-featured 10-band vocoder. The integrated secondary filter bank meticulously analyzes the spectral makeup of incoming sounds, allowing users to imprint the timbral characteristics of external sources onto Spectravox’s rich analogue tones.
Whether it’s shaping the warm, resonant oscillations of Spectravox with the cadence of your voice or animating guitar chords with a drum machine to create mesmerizing, broadband percussive effects, the possibilities are as vast as your imagination. The combo XLR/jack program input ensures that whether you’re hooking up a microphone or integrating other sound modules, Spectravox adapts seamlessly, enhancing its surroundings with resonant depth and psychedelic spectral movements.
This highly flexible instrument and signal processor boasts an extensive patch bay, inviting musicians and sound designers to dive deep into a world of innovative sound design and complex audio manipulation. Spectravox is more than a synthesizer — it’s an exploration and expansion of the traditional vocoder and filter bank topology, engineered to inspire and transform the landscape of modern music production.
From Historical Inspiration to Modern Innovation
In 1928, Homer Dudley developed the Vocoder at Bell Labs, fundamentally changing sound transmission. His insights into speech synthesis paved the way for the Voder, introduced at the 1939 New York World’s Fair, captivating audiences and inspiring future innovations in sound processing. Building on this legacy, Spectravox uses a similar 10-band filter architecture, allowing users to sculpt sounds with historical depth and modern precision.
The collaboration between Wendy Carlos and Bob Moog, which began at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, also significantly influenced the Spectravox design. Their exploration of vocoders led to new ways of merging electronic tones with human expressiveness, epitomized in the iconic soundtrack of Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange.
Designed to inspire through its analog engine and flexible modulation options, Spectravox is a powerful tool for live performance and studio recording alike. It transforms simple sounds into complex sonic landscapes, making it an instrument for anyone looking to explore new musical dimensions.
Key Features of Spectravox:
Semi-Modular Design: No patching is required to start, allowing immediate musical exploration. Dynamic 10-Band Filter Bank: Shift and shape frequencies to create everything from rich basses to ethereal pads. Extensive Connectivity: Integrate seamlessly with other Moog semi-modular instruments, Eurorack modules, and external sound sources. Innovative Modulation: Internal triangle wave LFO and external CV options for real-time control over filter movement and sonic texture. “Spectravox enhances Moog’s modular synthesis legacy by integrating a sophisticated vocoder alongside powerful analogue synthesis capabilities,” says Product Strategist, Max Ravitz at Moog Music. “This instrument is designed to give musicians comprehensive control over their sound, enabling detailed texture shaping and a broad spectrum of sonic experimentation.”
In a new video from Moog Music, Jamie Lidell invites you into the studio for a glimpse into his innovative use of the Spectravox synthesizer. Witness the artist’s creative process as he constructs an original piece, integrating the Spectravox with percussion, pedal steel guitar, and modular synthesizers to craft a unique sonic experience.
Throughout the making of “Awake and Alive,” Jamie demonstrates the versatility and sound-shaping capabilities of the Spectravox. From the outset, you can see a tape loop of Jamie’s vocals being intricately filtered through the Spectravox, setting the tone for the track. As the composition progresses, the Spectravox processes every element of the track — vocals, drums, pedal steel, and all synthesizers, infusing each with a distinct sonic character. Watch as Jamie manipulates its powerful 10-band vocoder to transform vocal harmonies and layers complex textures with its dynamic filter bank, showcasing the unit’s ability to bridge classic sound design with modern musical expressions.

Spectravox: Now Available for Order Worldwide

Meyer, the boss of the ETERNAL Records label, is back with another huge, melodic release. His new single “California” features the voice of Connecticut-based recording artist Ian Biggs. It also comes with a great remix from Das Pharaoh, who is the boss of UV Music and one-half of the famous Egyptian trance duo Aly & Fila.

“California” is another amazing example of Meyer‘s natural ability to make music. It blurs the lines between Melodic House & Techno and Progressive House. The vocal topline by Ian Biggs gives the track its resonant tone. It’s mix of vivid harmonies, ethereal soundscapes, darkened nuances, and emotional frequencies. All these elements make the tune yet another statement piece to add to Meyer’s growing collection of notably high-quality dance cuts.
‘California‘ takes on a whole new personality when Das Pharaoh adds his chugging Indie Dance style to it. It’s the second of two very charming tracks that make up one of ETERNAL’s most exciting releases so far. It leans into long, wide sound envelopes, punchy grooves, and a jam-packed mix of sonorous elements.

Skiddle, the UK’s independent ticketing platform, has published early findings from its landmark mental health survey of music and event professionals in the UK, coinciding with this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week.
Launched at the beginning of April, as a follow-up to an industry-first study conducted back in 2018, the survey aims to highlight new challenges facing the community in the wake of the pandemic and amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis. Venue proprietors and promoters of gigs, club events, and festivals in particular are being urged to participate to help Skiddle and its partners identify the regions and locations in the greatest need of mental health support.
Lending support to the initiative is a long list of prominent mental health charities and ambassadors. Among them the likes of Music Minds Matter/ Help Musicians UK, Music Support, Manchester’s Headstock, Bristol Nights, the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), the Association for Independent Festivals (AIF), the Association for Independent Promoters (AIP), the Association of Electronic Music (AFEM), the Music Venue Trust (MVT) and newly added partners, Getahead and Blue Rhythm, an organisation that specialises in helping creatives work through a diverse range of mental health challenges.
The early results, shared via Skiddle’s Promotion Centre Blog and social media channels, paint a bleak picture of the general mental well-being of professionals in the industry, compounded by several contributing factors.
When asked if they felt financially secure, for example, over a third of respondents disagreed while 28% said the stress of work had caused problems with substance misuse. An alarming 50% of participants said they’d experienced periods of poor mental health due to the job with 30% stating they didn’t know where to find music industry-specific mental health support, further highlighting the need for the study.
Alongside these findings, Skiddle is set to publish a wide variety of content to provide value and assist those who might require support during Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 – from interviews with leading mental health organisations to advice from the Skiddle team and more.
Insights from the study, set to wrap up in April 2025, will be compiled and transformed into a range of valuable resources, such as white papers, freely downloadable handbooks, guides, and additional materials.
Duncan King, Head of Festivals and Partnerships at Skiddle, said of Mental Health Awareness Week and the research project:
“The preliminary findings from the study depict a rather grim landscape when concerning the mental well-being of professionals operating within the event sector. We’re acutely aware of the numerous challenges stacked against the community at present and this data further solidifies the need for additional support and resources from the wider industry.
During Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 especially, we’re urging organisers of events, venue managers and proprietors to get involved and share their experiences in our survey. Your input will enable us to bring about new avenues for support, allowing us to assist those most in need, improving the state of mental health in the UK for all.”
Read the survey here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Skiddle-mental-health-survey-2024

Giuseppe Ottaviani’s 2024 got off to a flying (and distinctively collaborative!) start, as he partnered with singers, songwriters and co-producers from all walks. (‘Carry On’ with Gareth Emery & Sarah de Warren, x Gabry Ponte & Malou on ‘In My Mind’, Like Mike on ‘Nothing Else Matters’ – to name but some!)
To make the kind of artistic leap he wanted for his main spring strike however necessitated him going as solo as solo gets. Giuseppe has explored many different styles and subsets over his career, but he’s never been out-and-out techno before. Which is exactly what you’re going to be getting when ‘Keep Running’s rubber hits the road.
Built up with marching kicks, a throbbingly technotic pulse, driving percussive rhythms and LFO that’ll trouble the most formidable of bass stacks, ‘Keep Running’ is not looking to compromise for a moment. The canniest of key changes and the subtlest of melodic techno hooks keep its pressure rising, while Giuseppe’s mantra-like ‘keep running, never look back’ refrain will be something you’re hearing long after the club doors have closed.

Shadowy, Berlin-accented music for those that know, ‘Keep Running’ is the kind of departure for Giuseppe you’ll want to hear time and again … And here’s where to make to make that happen! [blackhole.lnk.to/keeprunning]

Burning Man, known for its eclectic and diverse art installations, has recently decided to remove a large-scale pro-Palestine sculpture from its upcoming summer event lineup. The sculpture, an 8-foot-by-14-foot fiberglass watermelon titled “From the River to the Sea,” became controversial after over a thousand individuals signed a petition for its removal.

The petition highlighted concerns that the artwork’s title is perceived as a contentious slogan that could be interpreted as endorsing violence and opposing the existence of the Jewish state.  It is now unlikely to be featured at the annual gathering in Black Rock City.

A representative for Burning Man, which is scheduled to commence on August 25, has indicated that a controversial sculpture is “unlikely” to be featured at the event. The festival’s spokesperson shared with the San Francisco Gate that the submission of the sculpture’s listing appears to have been designed to provoke a reaction from the community, rather than to confirm the presence of an actual art installation at Black Rock City in August. The statement suggests that the listing may not have been a genuine art submission but rather an attempt to elicit an emotional response from festival-goers.

Last year, the festival experienced major issues with mud and rain during the exodus from Black Rock City.

Let’s hope this year the desert festival stays dry.

The Las Vegas Sphere is quickly becoming one of the strips most in demand venues since its launch last year. The lone Sphere venue in Las Vegas, which cost $2.3 billion to build through delays and cost overruns during the COVID-19 pandemic, generated revenue of $170.4 million in its fiscal third quarter ended March 31, the parent company, Sphere Entertainment Co, reported Friday. With hype and demand up, along with strong upward trend in revenue, CEO James Dolan is determined to open another Sphere in a second market. According to billboard, the company is “in discussions with several markets” and has encountered “plenty of interest all around the world,” Dolan said, “but not until we launched the product in September did people really get to see what it was and began to see how it could perform.” Dolan claims that an agreement is set to be inked soon, however declined to provide a timeline. What location would you want to see? And which EDM artists do you think deserves a spot on that stage?

Armin van Buuren gave New York a special show this past weekend. The Dutch legend stopped at the Brooklyn Mirage for a huge 3-hour set for the capacity crowd. He and Laura van Dam had the crowd going all night long till 4 am.
Laura van Dam delivered a wonderful opening set and had the crowd ready to burst once Armin took the stage. She played a diverse set with Trance, Techno, and some House sprinkled throughout. It was expertly crafted and you could feel she loved being up there. Laura was engaging with the crowd playing quite a few Afterlife tracks. They always hit well in NYC.
Armin van Buuren
As the clock struck 1 am, Armin grace the stage with a monumental intro. He took NYC on a journey through his discography. The Armada leader featured all of his classics but also modern reworks of the records. His 2023 remix of ‘This Is What It Feels Like’ is always a special moment. The track was made for a live show and has incredible tension before the massive drop. It feels like 2013 but with a fresh twist.
Of course, Armin played all his other bangers from ‘Blah Blah Blah’ to ‘On & On’ to ‘No Fun.’ Armin has been on a crazy release streak the last few years with album after album. His most recent, Breathe In, was his 9th studio album. The album was written over 2 years following the end of the pandemic. It represents the next step in his narrative that started with his 8th album Feel Again.
Feel Again represented Armin van Buuren’s journey of reconnecting with himself and the music he loves. Breathe In focuses on his love for his fans. The tracks symbolize and urge listeners to celebrate life, see the light in others, and connect on the dance floor. And you could feel that in Brooklyn. The crowd was lovely and caring, very similar to Armin himself.
Armin is currently on tour and you must see him if you can. He will be hitting EDC Las Vegas, Main Square Festival, Airbeat One, Tomorrowland, Creamfields, and so much more.
You can stay up to date with The Brooklyn Mirage here.

Get ready for a shake-up in the party paradise of Ibiza as the Balearic Islands launch a bold move to rein in late-night revelry. With stricter regulations hitting the nightlife scene, the party capital faces a major makeover.
Authorities on the archipelago have implemented measures aimed at limiting the availability and public consumption of alcohol during the hours of 9:30 PM to 8 AM. The decision stems from concerns over public safety, noise disturbances, and the preservation of the islands’ cultural heritage.
“The most significant modification of the decree is in relation to the consumption of alcohol which will now be prohibited in public thoroughfares in the specific zones affected by this decree,” the Balearic Island Government stated.
In Ibiza, the law now prohibits drinking on public streets in the tourist-heavy neighborhood of San Antonio during the restricted hours. The law also says that boat parties can’t come within a mile of the restricted areas, and they can’t pick up or drop off people there either. However, this law does not apply to bars, clubs, and other venues serving alcoholic beverages. Those caught offending or drinking outside of permitted areas are subject to fines of up to around $1600 USD (€1,500).
Will this change the way you party in Ibiza? Let us know on our social media channels at Facebook and Instagram.
