A decade later, the organizers of UNTOLD Festival are proving that there's much more to electronic dance music than meets the ear.
Last week saw the return of their "Blood Network Campaign," the longest-running blood donation initiative in Romania, which is now in its 10th iteration. The initiative has saved over 60,000 lives since its inception, drawing over 18,000 donors through its creative incentive program, according to UNTOLD.
Launched alongside the first UNTOLD Festival in 2015, the "Blood Network Campaign" encourages blood donations by offering free tickets to Romania's largest beach music festival, Neversea, as well as the flagship UNTOLD fest in Cluj-Napoca. This year's UNTOLD will feature headlining performances by Swedish House Mafia, Sam Smith, Martin Garrix, Black Coffee, FISHER and more.
c/o UNTOLD
The "Blood Network Campaign" is designed to address Romania’s critical need for blood donations, with more than 500,000 units required annually. The campaign runs from May 18th to June 30th, when a mobile caravan visits locations in 10 cities across Romania: Cluj, Timișoara, Bucharest, Craiova, Giurgiu, Târgu Mureș, Zalău, Constanța, Târgu Jiu and Ploiești.
Donors who give blood at the mobile caravan receive free festival tickets while those who donate at transfusion centers will benefit from discounted festival passes. The campaign is made possible in partnership with the "Și Eu Donez" platform as well as support from Kaufland Romania and Romania’s National Institute of Blood Transfusion.
c/o UNTOLD
"Seeing how the passion for music transforms into an extraordinary gesture of donating blood is wonderful," said Edy Chereji, Co-Founder of UNTOLD Universe. "Donating blood is an act of generosity and a gesture of solidarity and compassion towards others. This year, the Blood Network caravan will reach ten cities in Romania, and we welcome good-hearted people to the mobile caravan and transfusion centers across the country. We are confident that many people will want to do a good deed this year, save a life, and enjoy our festival experiences, whether at UNTOLD or Neversea."
Neversea takes place from July 4-7 in Constanța and will feature headliners such as Maluma, Bebe Rexha, Alok, Mahmut Orhan and Sofi Tukker, among others. UNTOLD Festival is slated to follow from August 8-11.

5 Artist Side Projects You Didn’t Know About
As the landscape of electronic dance music continues to evolve, artists often explore their creativity beyond their primary monikers, resulting in captivating side projects that offer fans a glimpse into new sonic realms. From underground techno aliases to experimental bass music monikers, these side projects allow producers to push boundaries and challenge their artistic limits. In this blog post, we unveil five artist side projects that you may have missed, each offering a unique and compelling narrative.
1. Deadmau5 aka Testpilot
Joel Zimmerman, better known as Deadmau5, is an electronic music icon renowned for his cutting-edge productions and larger-than-life stage presence. On top of all this, he unveiled a darker and more underground alter ego: Testpilot. This side project allowed Zimmerman to delve into the realms of techno and tech-house, catering to a more discerning audience craving raw, uncompromising sounds.
Testpilot has only released one official single, “Sunspot (White Space Conflict” and the alias is predominantly used for performing sets at live shows. The project’s enigmatic nature and lack of visual representation added to its mystique, allowing the music to speak for itself.
2. Oliver Heldens aka HI-LO
Dutch DJ and producer Oliver Heldens has carved a niche for himself in the future house and bass house scenes with his infectious grooves and unique sound. However, in 2015, he unveiled a surprising side project that took a drastically different direction: HI-LO.
Under this alias, Heldens explores the captivating world of deep house and techno, crafting hypnotic rhythms and atmospheric soundscapes. HI-LO’s debut EP, “Renegade Skies,” immediately garnered attention from underground enthusiasts, showcasing Heldens’ versatility and ability to transcend genre boundaries.
Interestingly, Heldens initially kept HI-LO’s identity a closely guarded secret, allowing the music to stand on its own merits without the weight of his established reputation.
3. Martin Garrix aka Ytram
At a very young age, Martin Garrix burst onto the scene with his electrifying anthems and became a global sensation. However, as he continued to evolve as an artist, Garrix felt the need to explore a more experimental and underground sound, leading to the creation of his side project, Ytram (Marty spelled backward).
At Tomorrowland 2017, Garrix debuted his Ytram alias and premiered the song “So Far Away” a collaboration with David Guetta. Under this alias, Garrix delves into the realms of progressive house and melodic techno, crafting intricate and emotive productions that showcase his growth as a producer.
4. Porter Robinson aka Virtual Self
Porter Robinson’s meteoric rise to fame as a pioneering figure in the electro and complextro scenes was nothing short of remarkable. However, in 2017, the producer took a bold step and unveiled Virtual Self, a side project that allowed him to explore his love for trance, techno, and early rave music.
Virtual Self’s debut EP, “Virtual Self,” was a captivating fusion of retro-futuristic sounds and cutting-edge production techniques, garnering praise from critics and fans alike. The project’s striking visual aesthetic, complete with a cyberpunk-inspired virtual avatar, added to the immersive experience.
Robinson’s ability to seamlessly transition between his emotionally charged original productions and the high-energy, nostalgic sounds of Virtual Self showcased his incredible versatility as an artist.
5. Above & Beyond aka OceanLab
Above & Beyond, the legendary trance trio, have garnered a massive following for their uplifting and euphoric productions. However, in the early 2000s, they embarked on a captivating side project called OceanLab, a collaboration with vocalist Justine Suissa.
OceanLab allowed Above & Beyond to explore a more downtempo and chilled-out sound, blending elements of trance, ambient, and even pop music. The project’s debut album, “Sirens of the Sea,” was a critically acclaimed masterpiece, featuring stunning vocal performances and intricate production.
What made OceanLab truly special was the seamless fusion of Suissa’s ethereal vocals with Above & Beyond’s signature melodic sensibilities, creating a unique and immersive listening experience. The project’s success paved the way for future collaborations and demonstrated the trio’s versatility beyond their trance roots.
These five artist side projects serve as a testament to the boundless creativity and artistic ambition that drives the electronic dance music scene. From underground techno explorations to nostalgic rave revivals, these aliases offer a refreshing change of pace and showcase the multifaceted talents of their creators. Whether you’re a die-hard fan seeking new sonic adventures or a casual listener exploring the genre’s depths, these side projects are sure to captivate and inspire.

This past weekend, hundreds of thousands gathered in Las Vegas for the annual EDC weekend festivities. With all the biggest dance music artists in town, there’s always so much to partake in but there is no doubt that the EDC festival itself is the centerpiece to it all. This year’s lineup may have been one of the best lineup of talents yet and amongst them all legendary DJ and producer Kaskade is always one of the main attractions.
Kaskade has been a long time performer at EDC Las Vegas and has been atop the mainstage of the festival for many consecutive years now. After every performance, Kaskade usually uploads his full set to YouTube or Soundcloud so that fans who were in attendance could relive the euphoric experience as well as fans who could not make it to the festival can partake in it’s magic. This year however, following the conclusion of the festival, Kaskade announced that he will not be uploading his set this time. The reason for not uploading this year is because his set was simply filled with too many unreleased/unfinished tracks. He mentioned on his Instagram Story that some of the music will likely be released as early as this Summer. He closes out his statement by promising to upload other live sets later this year.
While fans initial reaction to this may be disappointment, it is certain very exciting to hear that Kaskade has been very busy in the studios and we are on the verge of a ton of new music. For everyone who was lucky enough to be in attendance, you guys got the first listen while the rest of us will be patiently waiting for another opportunity to experience his music. Check out below for Kaskade’s Instagram Story post.

Brooklyn Storehouse is a new collaboration space that will open this month at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. It’s 104,000 square feet and will become a new cultural hub in Brooklyn.
The venue and its upcoming events
Brooklyn Storehouse will be a place for arts and culture in one of Brooklyn’s most famous and important industrial hubs from the past. The space will be constantly moved around and changed to create a wide range of settings. The fully customizable room will be used for many things, such as fashion shows, summits, brand activations, and immersive art exhibitions and complete set builds.

In the next few weeks, more shows will be revealed.
Brooklyn Storehouse: the history
The striking look of the Brooklyn Storehouse’s original raw concrete floors, exposed brick, and huge metalwork will help to keep the building’s rich industrial history alive. After World Wars I and II, a lot of ships were built at the Navy Yard. Building 293’s huge iron struts show some of that past, and the space’s beautiful waterfront location and views of the famous New York City skyline make it a part of Brooklyn’s culture.
The inside of the new venue in New York City: BROOKLYN STOREHOUSE Broadwick and TCE Presents both want to create places that combine industrial history with creative innovation to create moments and experiences that people will never forget. Today, Brooklyn Storehouse is the first project of a partnership that aims to create the most exciting cultural places and entertainment brands in the world, while also honoring the heritage of the past and fostering diversity and acceptance.
Broadwick Live: between Printworks, DRUMSHEDS, Depot Mayfield, and more
Since it opened in 2010, Broadwick has been a major force in the development of “live experiences” in the UK. Their places and projects are known for providing events with experiences that can’t be found anywhere else. Broadwick is a leader in electronic music, the arts, and space management.
They have bought more than 30 venues and entertainment spaces and sell more than 1 million tickets a year. They have also created some of the most inspiring cultural brands in the world, such as Printworks London, DRUMSHEDS, Depot Mayfield, Magazine, Field Day, and more.
Besides music-based events, Broadwick’s lively spaces host a lot of other powerful things, like fashion shows, business events, filming, celebrations, and immersive art exhibitions.
TCE Presents and New York
In the past ten years, TCE Presents has changed New York’s nightlife by putting on the first big events in and outside of the city at new venues. These events are put on by a portfolio of event brands, with Teksupport, which focuses on house and techno music, at the head of the pack. TCE Presents puts on more than 150 shows a year, such as fashion shows, business events, and the US versions of well-known international brands like CircoLoco and Time Warp.
Rockstar Games, a world leader in interactive entertainment, also backs Broadwick and TCE Presents. They are strategic investment partners in Broadwick and work with TCE Presents on a number of events and the Circoloco Records music label.

Just a few weeks ago, techno superstar Deborah De Luca was waging an inner war as surgeons removed a malignant tumor from her abdomen. Now, she's DJing in the heart of Times Square.
The Italian electronic music producer today announced a rare pop-up event in celebration of her third studio album, Hard Pop, which will release on Friday via her own Solamente Records imprint. De Luca will play tracks from the new album alongside a number of its vocalists, she said.
It's a big moment for the resilient DJ, who last month revealed she underwent emergency surgery after discovering a tumor. But she made a remarkable recovery and was back on the road to continue her tour within a week.
"I underwent an 'emergency' surgery 6/7 days after the diagnosis because there was no time, within 1 or 2 months the tumor would have been removed from the organ that contained it, bringing consequences that I don't even want to write about but that you can imagine," De Luca wrote in a statement on social media, translated from Italian. "I got very lucky."

De Luca is renowned for her visceral sound, which blends grit with grace for a more nuanced approach to techno music. While 2023 was an incredible year for Flux Pavilion, he's showing no signs of stopping in 2024.
After ending last year by teasing a handful of hotly anticipated collaborations, the latest one of that bunch has finally arrived. Flux has connected with Wooli and Cammie Robinson for "On Repeat," out now on his own Circus Records imprint.
"On Repeat" was made for festival play. The track is a masterful fusion of Wooli's untamed grittiness and Flux Pavilion's signature warbling synths, flowing between melodic moments and devastating drops.
Robinson's shimmering vocals stand out as she croons about clinging to a rocky relationship, recalling both the good times and bad. Her aching vocal is the emotional undertow of an anthemic tune that crowds will certainly be singing all festival season long.

Several months have passed since the Ultra Music Festival’s conclusion, yet a group of nearly 20 vendors report they are still awaiting payment. These vendors, who provided services at the festival, claim they have not received compensation from a California-based subcontractor responsible for their hiring.
Among the affected is Larry Galper, owner of the Pizzella food truck, known for its pizza pies. Galper expressed that the opportunity to earn substantial revenue over the festival’s three-day span was exceptional for a food truck business. Pizzella boasted sales of approximately $10,000 during the event.
Galper described the experience as “awesome,” but the post-festival period has been marred by financial uncertainty. According to him, none of the vendors involved have received their due earnings. He clarified that the responsibility does not lie with the Ultra Music Festival organizers but with the subcontracting vendor company from California. The contract issued by this company promised payment within 30 business days from April 2nd.
The delay has caused concern among the vendors, some of whom have previously worked with the festival and were accustomed to receiving payment within two weeks. Despite reaching out to the subcontractor, the only response received was an assurance that the matter was being addressed.
The vendors, including Galper, are now appealing to the Ultra Music Festival to intervene. They hope the festival will step in and assist in resolving the payment delays.
Best Beverage Catering or the Worst?
Rodney Brown, co-proprietor of the vegan food truck Plant Minage, reported to Miami New Times that he received a call last Thursday evening, May 16. The caller presented himself as an associate of Ultra and Best Beverage.
The caller proposed that Ultra would settle the payment. However, this would require Brown to agree not to engage with the media. Brown and his business partner decided to decline, sensing something amiss.
Galper, another vendor, expressed a desire to avoid conflict, hoping that Ultra would intervene and facilitate a resolution.
By Saturday afternoon, Galper communicated via text that the matter had been settled and was no longer an issue.
However, he remained unresponsive to further inquiries and did not confirm whether payment was received or if he signed an NDA

Best Beverage Catering, the vending company in question, has not provided a comment on the situation. This is certainly an unfortunate situation as this year marked Galper’s inaugural participation in the Ultra Music Festival.

In their new 2-track EP “Melting” on Embassy One, the electronic music pair KIDSØ teams up with the Polish singer Helaine Vis. The song is about regretting the past and finding it hard to let go. It combines KIDSØ’s unique production style with Vis’s strong singing.
KIDSØ (Moritz Grassinger and Martin Schneider) make a booming bassline and rhythmic handclaps that add to the nostalgic feel of “Melting.” A lead with a lot of brass adds energy and goes well with Vis’s mature and deeply moving vocal performance. The lines “I saw ice in his eyes, now it’s melting/How I didn’t want to make him cry/I saw ice in his eyes, now it’s melting/I wish that I could turn back time” give the song a deep emotional quality.
The two groups have been working together for years because KIDSØ liked Vis’s song “Ice” when they were first putting out music on Springstoff. As soon as they heard each other’s music, they started working on “Melting” as a way to combine their unique computer production skills with Vis’s skill as a songwriter.
They keep pushing the limits of their sound with “Melting,” which combines driving tech house with emotive songcraft. The song shows that the two can make dancefloor-ready beats with story depth and human feeling. It’s a sad exercise in nostalgia, and it’s an exciting next step in their musical development.
The release includes also Better Days with ROBINS. The tune was released back in February but it made its way through to this EP.

Boiler Room announces the next round of applications for Broadcast Lab – a grant scheme powering new ideas in the music broadcasting space. Launching in 2021, the grant aims to provide funding and bring new audiences to underrepresented scenes, communities and artists. The winning application will be awarded £10,000 to bring the project to life. Boiler Room will provide additional in-kind support and a full release on their channels.
Over the years, Broadcast Lab has funded a diverse range of projects including MASISI’s queer carnival in Miami; Nine Nights’ ICA installation on black futurism; Voyage, a multi-genre homage to Chicago music history; Sublimation’s showcase of traditional and contemporary music in Uzbekistan; Sisters of Rave’s celebration of artists from the Northwest and the Atlantic area of the Peninsula; Manila Community Radio’s spotlight on Budots; Belgian label Slagwerk’s showcase of global experiential music and Third Space’s exercise in cross-continental collaborations. The ninth edition of Broadcast Lab recently took place in Rio De Janeiro in collaboration with Festa Wobble – a collective responsible for bringing genres like grime, trap, dubstep, footwork, Jersey club and more to the city.
From these opportunities, Boiler Room has witnessed the impact the broadcasts can have on the collectives from Third Space becoming a sub-brand within the Boiler Room universe, hosting several stage takeovers at the brand’s annual festival to Sublimation’s local growth which will soon see them host their first festival in Uzbekistan.
The application for the 10th edition is now live which will be judged by previous winners Sabinē from Sublimation, Pressure Point from MASISI, Shannen SP from Nine Nights & Pikunin from Manila Community Radio.

Deborah De Luca is getting ready for her much-anticipated return to New York, USA. To celebrate, she is holding an exclusive album pop-up event in the middle of Times Square in Manhattan.
Wednesday, May 21, from 17:00 to 18.30 EST, is the event. It’s only three days before Deborah De Luca’s third studio record, “Hard Pop,” comes out on May 24 through her own Solamente Records label.
The new album: Hard Pop
Deborah De Luca‘s event in Times Square is a big deal in her long and successful career. It also sets the stage for the release of her third studio record, “Hard Pop.”
“Hard Pop” is the culmination of De Luca’s ten-year career and a tribute to the influences that helped her become a dance music royalty. It honors Deborah’s deep roots in Neapolitan techno and her respect for pop’s growing role in the genre.
De Luca’s latest record is a stellar example of how to masterfully blend the very different sounds of these two worlds. It pays tribute to the golden age of rave music with a fresh new twist.
The history: Deborah De Luca
De Luca has released a huge amount of music, and her records have become linked to Beatport’s top charts. Because of this, she’s been called a leader in the growth of techno in the studio and on stage. Many people have called Deborah De Luca the “Queen of Naples.”
Her rise from poverty in one of the city’s toughest neighborhoods to world fame has been nothing short of amazing. She is known as one of the most exciting new techno artists to come out of the international scene in the last twenty years because of her ability to hold people’s attention with highly complex sets that are charged with electricity.
