Listen to a beautiful track we recently came across.
What a gift of life it is to have new music around. Lucky for us, the world is full of it, every single second. And lucky for you, our job at EDMTunes is to keep our eyes and ears peeled at all times to find the greatest tunes out there. And we’re delighted to say we’ve found a really good one — and it comes from an old friend. Ladies and gentlemen, KANJI.
KANJI
An avid emerging producer in the Bass scene, particularly Melodic Bass, KANJI has been making quite the name for himself and his sound lately. Just three singles in, he’s been selected as one of ten emerging artists in the USA (one of 30 in the whole world) for the Martin Garrix & JBL Music Academy 2024, supported artists at shows, and landed two official remixes.
And he’s not done at all. Branching out to try new formulas and spaces, later this month he’ll be a support act for VICETONE’s Noto Philly gig, only perfecting his craft and solidifying his spot on the scene. And also, he’s released a track. One that is, let’s say, pretty darn good.
‘Paper Planes’
Off the heels of his second release ‘Need You’ — which already crossed the 100,000 stream mark — he’s now unveiled ‘Paper Planes’, a touching, melodic piece. Making a soft atmosphere the base of the song featuring a clean guitar, heartfelt vocals, warm pads and washed-out percussion, it paints a picture that is equal parts melancholic and hopeful to the ear.
Of course, the theme of the lyrics falls right in place for the bed they rest on. They recall childhood, far-away memories, evaluating how things have turned out, what one dreamt of versus what it all ended up being, and more. It’s a song that appeals to most of us who have, at least once in our lives, stopped walking down the road of life and looked back at where we’re headed.

The calming, repetitive splosh of New York City's East River is about to have a new soundtrack: a sinister, Halloween-themed rave headlined by Dimitri Vegas.
Scheduled for October 26th, Twilight Harbor is going down in the heart of Brooklyn in the hallowed halls of Duggal Greenhouse, which was once a shipbuilding facility during the World Wars. It's now a warehouse where music lovers dance the nights away with jaw-dropping views of the city's waterfront.
That's exactly what attendees of Twilight Harbor can expect—but with a darker twist, of course. Presented by Ignite Entertainment Group in partnership with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike's venerable Smash The House label, the event will curate "the ultimate Halloween vibe" by developing "stunning set designs, lasers and lights," according to Ignite.
Pre-sale passes go on sale Thursday, September 5th at 12:30pm ET before the event's general on-sale, which will begin Monday September 9th at 12:30am ET.
Adding to the excitement is the night's billing, "Dimitri Vegas & Friends." The chart-topping DJ and dance music superstar has not yet revealed who else will be joining him for the spooky festivities, but ticket-holders are safe to expect a big lineup reveal in the weeks ahead.

Zedd's power level must be over 9000 after this announcement.
The dance music superstar and saiyan-in-training has been celebrating a massive week of announcements. He released his stunning third album, Telos, on Friday before revealing a rare b2b set with Madeon for his Zedd In The Park afterparty in LA.
Now, Zedd has announced a collaboration with one of the most iconic anime series of all time, Dragon Ball. Calling it an "incredible honor," Zedd revealed that he was selected to write the theme song for the newest entry in the series, Dragon Ball DAIMA.
"Being given the opportunity to write music for a show that influenced many of my childhood years is an absolutely dream come true," Zedd said.
Outside the EDM collaboration, this series is especially notable since it's the last to be worked on by its creator, Akira Toriyama, before his tragic death in March. The legendary manga artist wrote the full story and contributed to its character design, according to Games Radar.
The official trailer for Dragon Ball DAIMA features a brief look at Zedd's theme song, titled "Jaka Jaan." While fans will have to wait until the show's premiere to hear the full track, the trailer reveals that it was produced in collaboration with Yukinojo Mori and KEEN (C&K).
Dragon Ball DAIMA will premiere October 11th on Japan's Fuji Television.

A friendship of over a decade is rekindling in over the weekend in LA, where Zedd and Madeon will join forces for a rare b2b set.

Powered by Insomniac, the official afterparties will extend the festivities long into the night after Zedd In The Park, which concludes before midnight each day.

The track counts with the iconic voice of Richard Bedford for an all-round combo.
And one day, it finally came out. And that day is today. Last week, we discussed the announcement Trance virtuosos Above & Beyond made on socials, that their long-awaited ‘Heart Of Stone‘ vocal piece was about to see an official release. Today, that’s due. And So we’re finally able to stream, stream and restream their first collaboration with Richard Bedford since *checks notes* ‘Bittersweet & Blue’ (!).
The vocal track, which features the iconic male voice of Trance — and arguably the most memorable pairing of Above & Beyond — is the next chapter of uncountable ventures of the four artists coming together. He’s the unmistakable voice behind countless A&B anthems such as ‘Sun & Moon’, ‘Thing Called Love’, and ‘Alone Tonight’.
‘Heart Of Stone’
In true A&B fashion, the track features huge stereo fields occupied by shiny saw leads, half-time arpeggios, pointy percussion, large claps, and the unmistakable Trancy pluck every now and then. The break gives free way for Richard to print the perfect words in a perfect tone. Then comes a bass stab, which dominates the song for a while, before introducing those Trance saw chords once again.
Following the footsteps of their previous release ‘Almost Home’ with Justine Suissa, the drop of this song gives a somewhat large nod to the 80s, with a snare that is not only prominent but quite of a star of the picture too, making of the most energetic bits of the song a danceable character, as opposed to a purely “jumpable” one. Refreshing, and we’re happy to finally see this one not be an ID anymore!
Also, the album on Spotify includes their previous vocal release, ‘Crazy Love‘. Am I allowed to start conjecturing and making predictions about an album already? This only adds to our excitement after Tony’s words when we chatted with him not long ago:

Right around this time of the year, Scotland is gradually turning nippier as the mercury drops down. Somewhere in Glasgow, Ryan Alexander doesn’t let the colder climate shake his passion for warm and summery music that thaws the soul as he works on new tunes. The young and up-and-coming talent has made a strong debut on the scene as an indie artist; a promising face amidst many others, he has shown a recognizable dexterity in composing music fleshed out with radio-ready hooks. One of his latest releases, ‘Me & You’ has him diversify and take on other genres, right in the vicinity of soulful dance music.
Stepping into the scene in 2024, Ryan has diligently taken up the task of consistently building up his musical catalog, having already been supported by BBC Introducing and local radio stations. His composing skills burgeoned from the experience of playing the decks as a DJ, soon learning the ropes of the trade by performing in various clubs around Glasgow. Thereafter, he was tempted to craft his material for the dancefloor: the debut single ‘Can You Feel It’ taps into the halcyon days of house music inspired by the 90s rave era, as uplifting riffs of filtered dance pianos strut over a percussive beat and pulsating bassline. Fast-forwarding to newer endeavors such as ‘Stay The Night’, the Scottish alias gets in a funky mood with zesty guitar licks and nu-disco temperament, as the main chorus has an analogous setup reminiscent of hits like ‘Uptown Funk’ from Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.
‘Me & You’ came right after the inaugural tune we just talked about, and it takes a more relaxed (but ear-candy nevertheless) attitude: the listener is welcomed by tropical and Afro-pop style arrangements (one can almost sketch the vivid scenery of a sun-kissed beach), buoyant synths backing the enthusiastic RnB vocals wanting to spark a romance. It remains entertaining even without a whole lot ongoing, letting the vibrant singing and off-beat, lighthearted melodies do their magic. A finishing detail puts more icing on this tune with ethnic tribal percussions, casting a groovy finale for the song.
Listen to ‘Me & You’ on Spotify here and YouTube here, and stay tuned with Ryan Alexander and his music on Instagram.

San Francisco native Eric Luttrell (also known as Luttrell) shares his latest single, ‘Falling’, from his highly anticipated third studio album, Life at Full Speed, out October 11 on Anjunadeep. The track represents deeper loving tones, compared to the more lighthearted singles he has released from the album earlier.
‘Falling’
Luttrell’s newest single ‘Falling’ showcases his evolution as an artist. He does this by blending his vocals with his signature synths and a bold bassline. The track joins a collection of album singles, including ‘Something Right’, ‘Make U Happy’ and ‘Sunshine Song’. These together have amassed over 6 million streams and received support from BBC Radio 1 and SiriusXM Chill. The track invokes an ethereal realm of sound. An ensemble of synthesizers and atmospheric melodies will make you fall for Luttrell’s power. The reverbed voices possess a raw sense of melancholy and eerieness, that succumb into a sweet yet majestic drop.
A standout feature of Life At Full Speed is the way in which Eric weaves his own voice into his productions. In marrying the melodic productions for which he’s become known with more overtly vocal moments that aren’t as commonplace in his catalogue. Luttrell promises to delight and surprise any listener of this album.
Luttrell is embarking on a tour in celebration of the album. As a result, he announced his Phase 1 North America tour dates. These will feature shows in Los Angeles, New York, Montreal, and more. If you’re avoiding falling in love during the fall, at least Luttrell will have us ‘Falling’ for him.

A music producer has been arrested and charged with a multi-million dollar scam involving the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to generate and stream music.
A producer going by the name Michael Smith has been recently arrested for allegedly coding AI bots to inflate streams of his tracks on popular streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music.
Smith is accused of creating thousands of fake accounts on these platforms to artificially elevate the number of streams, and not only that, he’s also under investigation for doing this to completely AI-generated songs. This would’ve allowed him to profit upwards of $10 million in royalties, by abusing the pay system of these streaming platforms.
The first method he used was boosting plays on his own songs. But once he was in hot waters, he turned to generating thousands of AI musical pieces to achieve similar results while staying under the radar. “We need to get a TON of songs fast to make this work around the anti fraud policies these guys are all using now”, he wrote to two co-conspirators, according to the indictment.
Authorities believe that Smith worked with an AI music company to produce an absurd amount of music, at least since 2018. He also used a complex system of fake email addresses, VPNs, and automated software to hide their tracks. The scam was uncovered when authorities noticed an unusually high volume of streams for certain songs. Investigations revealed that many of these streams were coming from fake accounts.
Smith faces charges of money laundering, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit wire fraud. If convicted, they could face a lengthy prison sentence.
His case is once again a sign of the legal troubles to come tied to AI in the very near future. You don’t have to look very far to see the good and the bad that comes with AI peeking through everyday life, as, while some producers such as ilan Bluestone have used AI to generate parts of tracks ultimately directed and polished by the human ear, we’re also being bombarded with “fake” music too.

In modern times, artistic longevity can be an elusive beast, but this summer, Amsterdam’s Ninih is delivering a project  that illustrates exactly what it takes to remain at the forefront of innovation in the underground while transcending  genres and generations.
Over the years, we have been fortunate enough to receive the multitude of aliases that pioneering DJ and producer,  Silverlining (aka Asad Rizvi), has offered us. While he has been focusing on solo material since 2017, Ninih’s Pieter  Jansen spotted that there was a wealth of material in his early collaborative projects with other artists that transcended  classification, stood the test of time, and needed to be presented to the world in the right way.
Hence, this special triple LP, “Silverlining & Friends: Collaborations 1996–2001,” addresses these landmark  explorations with meticulous track selection by Pieter and Asad, with exceptional mastering, beautiful sleeve art, and  extensive anecdotes about how the music came about. Throughout the LP, you can expect a host of names that will be  familiar to any discerning underground vinyl digger, such as Two Right Wrongans, Impossible Beings, Appleheadz,  Southern Comforters, and Bluegoose vs. Silverlining. However, this album weaves a fresh narrative around this  diverse selection of tracks—some well-known, others rare or unreleased—from blissful listening into up-tempo house  grooves to a gentle return to earth with the final unreleased gem that has been confined to DAT tape for more than 20  years. This body of work accommodates both headphone and heads-down moments over the course of its three discs.  Hence, this is more than a reissue compilation of rare 12s, but rather a recontextualisation of a huge body of work  with a shared ethos.
“At the turn of the millennium”, as Silverlining writes in the sleeve notes, “London was an all-embracing place, and,  for us, blending elements from house and techno was just one part of a wider drive to draw together the hotchpotch  of our musical and familial backgrounds. With the relentless hype and polemics that have encircled a certain genre  for more than a quarter century, a project that embraced the full spectrum of our efforts certainly comes as a breath of  fresh air.”
The album dives in with the Sigur Rós-esque “Through Wires And Air”, by Impossible Beings. This ethereal opus  saw Asad working with Ravi McArthur and Paul Sng during a recording stint in a Canadian log cabin. Having started as a simple strum on an acoustic guitar by Sng, the track developed into an accomplished production with Sng on  vocals, McArthur on bass and guitar and Silverlining on keys, as well as live strings later recorded in London.
Next up we have the genre-defying, jazz-tinged “Moontan Lotion”, by Appleheadz, a collaboration that started with  Charlie Inman, and later became a trio with Kester Lyddon. Tee’ing things up on the B-side, is the 1996 Appleheadz  masterpiece, “If You Were A Cat You’d Follow Me”, a highly sought-after deep house weapon that resurfaces time  and time again. Both feature masterful sax instrumentation by Inman.
As we move to the second disc, we encounter Asad’s endeavour with Brixton hero, Tom Gillieron, as Southern  Comforters. “Quick Call The King” features punchy drum patterns in combination with a killer elasticated groove;  another classic from the deep and hypnotic catalogue of their Reverberations imprint. Another genre-bender follows  with an instrumental of “In My Sky” from Appleheadz, which also featured on the “Moontan” EP. An unclassifiable  anthem, utilising broken beats, dreamy synths, guitar by Nigel Price-Wallace, and trumpet by Ralph Lamb, the sum of  which combines to create a piece of uniquely sublime depth.
Side D kickstarts with vintage Surreal action: Bluegoose (aka Richard Grey) vs. Silverlining’s classic “Taken Over”.  This classy breakbeat movement was birthed in the studio above the famous Swag Records where Richard worked at  the time, an address which was vital during those years. Impossible Beings feature again with their “Tuesday Morning  Milkman” track. Originally released on the Eukahouse sister label, Shaft, the track is both quirky and stripped back as  it meanders down a path of curiosity.
Two Right Wrongans, an influential partnership shared with the late Nathan Coles, feature on side E with “They’ll  Never Get It Right Them Two”. Recorded at Twang Dynasty in Brixton in 1996, it’s a perky trip for the hazy hours of  the night, blending elements from house and Detroit techno.
“Back To The Imbiss” is another treat from the Impossible Beings project, constructed at Mr. C’s Watershed studio.  “Imbiss” refers to their ‘98 road trip around Europe, a homage to the Berlin based shops where they would stock  up on weissbier and cheese. A funk laden breakbeat trip, playful and animated as it travels. Last but not least is a  previously unreleased track from Impossible Beings, “A Hundred To One”, a mesmerising and musically rich mind trip, with vocals from Kirsty Hawkshaw, backing from Kim Hardy, Ravi on bass, Beth Quist on dulcimer and the late  Ray Garraway on drums. The track was the first to be created during the aforementioned log cabin retreat the group shared many years ago. The Beings later added live strings and flute instrumentation in London. A smooth touch to  finish this amazing collaboration exploration, and an LP that will perk the ears of the tastemakers.
The album was mastered to an exceptional standard by Helmut Erler at Berlin’s legendary Dubplates and Mastering  facility. As well as being sonically aligned by the music, the 3 x 12” comes in a beautifully packaged sleeve with illustrations by Rowanna Lacey and graphic design by Nol Cobben, accompanied by line drawings of each of the artists  by Wim Swim. The sleeve also features stories about each track, written by esteemed producer and author Harold Heath, highlighting the moment in time the music was made, how they established their relationships and so forth.  The notes offer a unique insight to this vital era and how things were rapidly evolving. The back of the sleeve includes  a heartfelt introduction to the release written by Asad himself.
Ninih is showcasing a true case of admiration with this collection. In a market that moves faster than ever, it is important to share your respect for a prestigious era and the inspiring artists that drove electronic music forward, while  blurring the lines between the mass swarm of new genres during this period.
“To be absolutely clear,” Silverlining has said to us, “this is not a ‘tech-house’ album. I feel this term simplifies and  detracts from the atmosphere of musicality that truly drove us, especially in the Reverberations community of artists  that binds most of this work. But we understand that if it helps people, a handful of the tracks here can be defined that  way. It just wasn’t the only thing we were all doing. We hope this album helps to correct some major misconceptions  of our collective story.”
During this influential period, individualism was reaching extreme heights, so it makes it even more charming that  these artists, each a musical rarity in their own right, managed to meet and share their creative energy, all with the  same outlook and passion. The integrity and futuristic vision of Silverlining and his affiliates is something that can only be applauded.

Today we go a little deep, really digging under the surface of mainstream melodic techno. Patrick Ruprecht is a 33-year-old DJ and producer from Zurich, Switzerland. He just landed on Black Rose Recordings with a 2-track EP, Overthinking Mind.
The tunes mark the 18th release of the label. Black Rose Recordings is an independent music label, founded in 2020 by Erly Tepshi during the melodic techno wave of the same time.
Now, the imprint has solidified its position having released and launched several songs and artists in the melodic techno panorama.
Kicking off the Overthinking Mind EP there’s the title track. The sounds include a synth arp that accompanies you for the entire length of the record. The melodic bass gives you an emotional vibe against the powerful stabs. The break starts with a hypnotic synth and then develops in a more majestic way.
Odyssey Beyond Horizon is the second installment. In collaboration with Øntold, is the darker track of the Ep. It ranges between warmer and acid synth, the groovy bassline and the metallic percussions make the track strong and deep.
The Overthinking Mind EP is another step forward in the developed of the label. It’s also another incredible EP from Patrick Ruprecht and we can’t wait to hear more.
