Freqish Unveils Tasty Two-Tracker, ‘Come Together Now / The Abyss’

Here’s a genre-bender EP that will have you deciding between dancing with the lights on or off.
Happy Friday! Friday, with “F” as in “New Tunes”. No, not quite. But “F” as in “Freqish“, and that one works flawlessly. We’re excited to share a frankly delicious EP, coming to you from one of Dance Music’s veteran acts. Right from the bat, you know something interesting awaits — and you’d be absolutely correct.

For Brandon Lee, Dance music is a language that transcends words and worlds, using vibrations to reach the deepest fibres of our being. With over two decades of experience as a DJ, producer, engineer, and label owner, he launched the Freqish project in 2020. His debut track, ‘Let’s Get High‘, smashed onto the scene, topping the Beatport Deep House charts and landing in the Top 100 overall.
His largest pride is how much dedication and soul he puts into each of his projects. And that statement shines through when you listen to his catalogue. And you’d be in luck if that’s your aim today, for Freqish has just unveiled a new EP to the world: the union of two belters, ‘Come Together Now‘ and ‘The Abyss‘.
Come Together Now / The Abyss
A daring release which brings back some old while splashing some new into the equation, Come Together Now / The Abyss is Freqish’s latest, available now via Doc Brown’s imprint, Unlearn:Records. These two pieces could very well earn the title of genre-bender, for all we know.
The first out of the pair, ‘Come Together Now‘, stands out due to its groove nature, yet with a tense expression, very much like the 2015-and-older Progressive House you’d hear acts like Axwell and AN21 play back then. With pure House notes such as the vocal sample pairing with the slightly crunchy Acid bassline and the lack of 2-and-4 percussion from the get-go, this one will serve as the peak energy moment in sets, we bet.
Its counterpart, ‘The Abyss‘, acts as a more theoretically-accurate take on Tech House. Minimalistic, sober, oomphy and energetic, the B-side of this EP makes excellent use of each and every element featured throughout the duration, combining classic machine percussion with full basslines and the occasional melodic signal, made to keep the flame alive and well.

Now that her satirical a cappella has securely embedded itself in pop culture, Megan Boni, familiarly known as social media personality Girl On Couch, has released an updated single version of “Man In Finance,” this time produced by David Guetta. Originally sampled by London-hailing electronic duo Billen Ted, “Man In Finance (G6 Trust Fund)” first hit streaming platforms on May 17th, a short turnaround after Boni originally posted the massively viral TikTok on April 30. Now, over one month since being a six-foot-five, finance-working trust fund baby (with blue eyes) became indispensable dating criteria, Boni has finalized a collaboration with one of the most streamed DJs of all time.
In honor of Boni and David Guetta’s moment-seizing new record, Dancing Astronaut sat down with Girl On Couch herself to discuss the release, her recent appearance next to Guetta in Las Vegas, and what might be in store for the 26-year-old social media star. Sonus Festival has released its final lineup editions as well as day splits and stage breakdowns for its upcoming event at Zrće Beach, Croatia this August 18-22.

In addition, there will be special, three-hour back-to-backs that will allow artists to sonically meander in unison, as Jamie Jones pairs off with the Metamorfosi founder Joseph Capriati for what will be a deep dive into the freshest house and techno, while Loco Dice B2B Seth Troxler will see the two titans serve up their thrilling, party-starting sounds, weighty grooves and colourful curveballs.

With less than 10 days away, Kansas City’s EDM community is chomping at the bit to return to Breakaway Festival, which is descending upon the city from June 14-15.
Breakaway’s third edition in the City of Fountains marks yet another stop in the red-hot traveling festival's summer tour across the US, its largest one to date. Since its inception in Columbus back in 2016, Breakaway has grown into the nation’s largest multi-city festival, with a presence in Tampa, Charlotte, Ohio, Michigan, Nashville and more.
Breakaway always aims to provide a holistic and all-encompassing festival experience, and its organizers' 2024 edition in Kansas City is no exception. Apart from the Silent Disco presented by Monaco, the dazzling festival will feature a myriad of onsite activations and interactive fan experiences.

Daft Punk's Thomas Bangalter Releases 6-Hour "CHIROPTERA" Soundtrack: Listen

Legendary Daft Punk co-founder Thomas Bangalter has released the soundtrack of CHIROPTERA, a performance developed in collaboration with the Paris Opera House back in November 2023.
Bangalter at the time joined the artist JR and choreographer Damien Jalet, with whom he developed the "unprecedented" show and commissioned 154 dancers to bring it to life at the dazzling Parisian venue la Galerie du 19M.
In the wake of Daft Punk's shocking 2021 split, Bangalter has actively worked to reinvent himself as a composer. The influential producer recently released his original soundtrack for Mr. Oizo's French comedy film DaaaaaalĂ­!, which followed a classical album called Mythologies.
He's now released "CHIROPTERA MATIERE PREMIERE," a six-hour mix of the haunting, ambient music from its eponymous production. The soundtrack is out now via Bangalter's label, Alberts & Gothmaan, an anagram of his name.
In celebration of the release, Bangalter also revealed ALETHEIA 19, an impending "sound installation" comprising "19 monophonic microgrooves cut on vinyl and presented in a simultaneous unsynchronised playback," according to a press release. Part of JR's DANS LA LUMIERE exhibition, the project will display in Paris' Espace Saint-Claude from June 7-15, 2024.

An Anthem Uncaged: Swedish House Mafia Drop Long-Awaited Single, "Lioness"

The hunted becomes the huntress in Swedish House Mafia's new single, "Lioness."
Prowling into a sonic savanna of swelling house music, "Lioness" arrives hotly anticipated. Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello had confirmed a mid-April release, but they decided to delay it after playing the song live because they "weren't satisfied with the production and needed to do last minute changes," the band said at the time.
After slithering in with an eerie flute pattern, Swedish House Mafia's production stalks forward with hypnotic intensity as Niki & The Dove's haunting vocals pounce on the beat, defiantly chanting, "You can't keep me down, I am done, I am furious." Together with its fierce, propulsive drop, the song conjures imagery of a badass feline adorned in ceremonial black and gold warpaint, eyes blazing.

In other Swedish House Mafia news, the influential trio is heading to Ibiza this summer for a historic DJ residency at the fabled UshuaĂŻa, one of the world's top clubbing destinations. After performing there just once in 2023, they'll now return every Sunday from July 21st to August 25th for their first residency on the White Isle in over a decade.
In addition to the six-week residency, Axwell, Ingrosso and Angello are set to perform as Swedish House Mafia at Ultra Korea, Panama Open Air Festival and Tomorrowland's momentous 20th anniversary festival, among other high-profile appearances.

Tim Bergling Foundation Announces Return of "Dance for Life" Initiative

Hope is never far away in the midst of a dance—a concept the Tim Bergling Foundation knows all too well. The foundation, whose namesake pays homage to the late Avicii, recently took to social media to announce the return of its "Dance For Life" initiative.
Organized in Sweden to raise awareness of Suicide Prevention Day, which occurs on September 10th, the initiative originated last year at Lund's Polhemskolan high school and successfully danced its way to change, garnering participation from over 120 schools. Its objective is to gather students together in song and confront the conversation surrounding suicide prevention, and all the ways in which their peers can be heard in the midst of their struggles.
"Today, on average, three young people take their lives each week," the foundation wrote. "Dance for Life is working to change this by spreading awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide."

The Tim Bergling Foundation is managed by Avicii's family, who made it their mission to advocate for the recognition of suicide as a global health crisis through philanthropic endeavors. Spearheaded by Avicii's father, Klas Bergling, the organization has carried out a multitude of events in the artist's honor after his tragic death by suicide in April 2018.
The foundation is encouraging any schools ranging from elementary to adult education centers to sign up to be a part of the heartening event. Registration comes with access to choreography that students can learn together as well as helpful health tips on the topic of suicide prevention.

ALLEYCVT Set to Embark on Fall 2024 Tour, "FEEL IT"

ALLEYCVT has announced a momentous tour, "FEEL IT," alongside a stacked lineup of friends. 
The fall 2024 tour will be her second headlining run across North America. This time around, she's operating with a renewed sense of purpose to breathe new life into the ethos of her project.
"When coming up with the concept for this tour, I couldn’t help but to think about all the emotions that I've experienced over the last few years" she said in a celebratory Instagram post. "The good, the bad, and everything in between. It’s through these feelings that I’ve connected with others, grown as a person, and truly understood what it means to be human."

NERO Reveal U.S. Tour, Release Date for Third Album "Into The Unknown"

NERO are getting ready to bring their American fans Into The Unknown this fall.
Back in October, the legendary electronic music trio announced that their third album would arrive sometime this year. After the release of singles "Truth," "Blame You" and "Draw Energy," they've finally revealed that Into The Unknown will release on August 16th, 2024.
In case news of their first album since 2015's Between II Worlds wasn't enough for you, NERO's Daniel Stephens, Joe Ray and Alana Watson have revealed a new 16-city U.S. tour. According to a press release shared with EDM.com, most cities will feature a live show from Stephens and Ray since Watson is unable to join them on the road after giving birth to her and Stephens' third child.

Beats and Treats: Mochakk Is Touring New York City In a Tricked-Out Ice Cream Truck

Mochakk is serving up a double scoop of excitement in New York City with a mouthwatering mix of beats and treats.
This weekend, the Brazilian house music wunderkind will embark on a multi-stop tour across the city in a decked-out ice cream truck. Mochakk's citywide mini-tour in the vehicle will see him delivering "Mochakk Calling" branded ice cream to fans at notable locations including Washington Square Park and the W New York in Union Square. A spectacular pop-up performance at Dimes Square will mark his final stop of the night.

Kaz James Releases ‘Never The Same’ EP via Rose Avenue

The new EP from Australian artist and DJ Kaz James is called “Never The Same” and is out now on Rose Avenue Records.
This is Kaz James’s first release on RÜFÜS DU SOL’s label, and his Never The Same EP is a fantastic twofer.
The two tracks are linked by a mood of escape, and the EP is full of mysterious percussion and smooth tunes. Everything work well with the way the two tracks are put together.
Nicholas Routledge of the electro-pop band Van She sings on the title track “Never The Same.” The record is led by lush piano chords and lustful singing.
“Skin,” on the other hand, is mesmerizing with its long instrumental builds. When put together, Never The Same is an amazing storm of deep techno and music that will go beyond dance floors everywhere.
Kaz James is a well-known producer, DJ, and label boss from Melbourne. James is a master of the turntables and has played all over the world. He currently has a residency at the famous Alemagou in Mykonos, Greece.
James is a musician who has made a lot of hits, like the summer anthem “Footprints” and “Stronger,” which was remixed by John Summit and DJ Tennis.
In 2024, James will make his appearance on new labels like Rose Avenue and Kompakt. He will also start his own label, Krushes, with Warner Music Group.

LSDREAM and CloZee Drop Pair of Singles Ahead of Hotly Anticipated LSZEE Album

In December 2023, LSDREAM and CloZee announced the launch of LSZEE, a collaborative project foreshadowing a barrage of the majestic, spacey sounds they've long mastered. And as fans anxiously await the release of their debut album, the duo has now given them a cosmic taste by virtue of a pair of new singles, "FRENCH DREAM" and "CHRYSALIS."
Within its first minute, the former track beams listeners into outer space with ease and finesse, but not before asking, "Can this be a French dream?" After that initial blastoff, LSZEE drop a bouncy beat complemented by funky trumpet patterns, wobbly bass and fun ad-libs sprinkled throughout.
Meanwhile, they "CHRYSALIS" with the same helixes of DNA but infuse a different sound, reminiscent of a life well-traveled and well-contemplated. Slower-burning and meditative, the song is a carefully-crafted concoction of organic production and hypnotic vocals, all flowing freely through a cohesive arrangement.
In the span of just two songs, LSDREAM and CloZee beautifully showcase the range of their debut album, wherein fans are bound to experience the bass-fueled whimsy of their signature sounds. The album is due out on September 27th, 2024.
"Back in 2022 we did a studio trip in Joshua Tree to work on a few collabs," LSZEE said in a joint statement. "We tapped into the most abundant creative spark, and the music just started flowing. We kept writing more and more songs, exploring new ideas that inspired us, and having the best time, being in awe of each others creativity."

All said and done, the sublime track is a masterclass in progressive house that reminds us why we fell in love with the genre in the first place. When asked whether or not that nostalgic sound is making a comeback on the festival circuit, Matisse & Sadko said they anticipate a resurgence.
"Of course we cannot predict the future, but we see that this genre carries an emotion that is difficult to express in any other style of music," the duo told EDM.com. "This is a rare combination of joy and sadness at the same time, energy and bright mood. We believe that this genre has great prospects and is again ready to take its place of honor at the biggest festivals."

Dom Dolla Drops Summer House Anthem, "girl$"

After amassing over 46 million views prior to release, Dom Dolla has released "girl$" just in time for summer.
Out now via Three Six Zero Recordings, "girl$" is a seductive and confident tech house track reminiscent of Dolla's signature, energetic style. The track blends an earworm of a bassline with vocals from Caitlin Stubbs and vox bits from the Aussie house music superstar himself.
Dolla says "girl$" was inspired by a conversation with friends, who became jaded by today's dating scene and ultimately decided to give up.
"In '24 we have so much choice," he said in a press release. "Nobody is limited by who they want to love or spend time with... whether that's a guy, girl, or even just relish in their own company."
The hotly anticipated single arrives right before a massive run of shows for Dolla, who will soon DJ at Electric Forest, Ushuaïa Ibiza, Austin City Limits and Tomorrowland's momentous 20th anniversary festival, among others.

Martin Garrix, DubVision and Shaun Farrugia Reunite for Breathtaking Single, "Wherever You Are"

Progressive house anthems are now second nature for Martin Garrix, DubVision and Shaun Farrugia, who have reunited for a new single, "Wherever You Are."
The group, whose 2022 hit Starlight (Keep Me Afloat)" continues to send festival crowds to cloud nine, is back on Garrix's STMPD RCRDS after he premiered the track during his show-stopping Ultra Miami 2024 set.
A soaring testament to love's boundless pursuit, the production of "Wherever You Are" is signature Garrix and DubVision, who've once again managed to produce a cascading torrent of euphoric synths and palpitating basslines atop Farrugia's impassioned vocals.
His lyrics take the song to stratospheric heights, painting a visceral portrait of its central promise: to conquer any obstacle for the sake of love. "I'll tear the heavens apart, just to be in your arms," he belts.
"'Wherever You Are' is more than just a song," Farrugia said in a statement. "It's the feeling so many of us feel inside our hearts, gives us purpose, and remembers the ones we've lost along the way." Take a listen below.
The track's origins can be traced back to a modest video call between Garrix, DubVision and Farrugia, who ultimately connected in Amsterdam to work on the record before finishing it just hours before Ultra.
"This song is a special one for me... This song was just pure joy to make," Garrix gushed.

As the summer festival season heats up, Martin Garrix has blessed his fans with an anthemic new single. The new song is sure to be a highlight of his shows and summer season.
The Dutch DJ/producer has joined forces with fellow producer and DJ duo DubVision and singer/songwriter Shaun Farrugia on “Wherever You Are,” an emotionally charged and euphoric dance track.
The new collaboration was premiered during Garrix’s headlining set at Ultra Music Festival in Miami. As the melodic chords swelled and Farrugia’s powerful vocals rang out, the massive audience was enraptured by the instantly catchy yet deeply meaningful song. Garrix even brought out Farrugia for a special live performance.

Building around a poignant vocal and uplifting organs, ‘Shallow Water’ is a pulsating and life-affirming single. The single also coincides with an enchanting official video on release day, directed by PhĂșĂłng VĆ« with the creative direction of Charlie Rees.
The director PhĂșĂłng VĆ« commented “In traditional Vietnamese folklore, the sky is represented by the shape of a circle, while the earth is a square. Developing upon this idea, we wanted the video to feature Vietnam’s most stunning and raw natural landscapes, in combination with holistic choreography to present the human element along with giant, abstract and surreal spheres and cubes that symbolize the earth and the sky.”
It follows Elderbrook’s triumphant 2024 return in April with ‘Glad I Found You’, his collaboration with esteemed dance producer George FitzGerald.
Speaking on the record “In “Shallow Water”, the cards are down, bottom reached and there is nowhere left to go. Our subject has to be better, do better. The song hinges on these bargaining chips, on the get out clauses we give ourselves when we want to change but know it will be hard. It grapples with questions of integrity and our desire to better ourselves against the knowledge that true and meaningful change is difficult and often messy. It’s the never ending self doubt given a voice.”

Having toured his acclaimed sophomore album Little Love last year with sold-out shows across the US, UK, Canada and Europe, as well as playing a sold out headline show at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre this Spring, the singer-songwriter has a massive summer headline show coming up at New York’s Brooklyn Mirage on Friday, June 14th.
