PreSonus Studio One 6
I have been using Studio One since its release in version 4, and it has taken me a significant amount of time to master its capabilities fully. Initially, I explored several other digital audio workstations (DAWs), but ultimately, Studio One has emerged as my preferred choice due to its robust feature set and seamless workflow.
One of the primary reasons I have chosen Studio One is its commitment to regular updates, which ensures that the software remains stable and compatible with the latest hardware and plugins. The daw’s intuitive interface and streamlined workflow make it easy to navigate, even for complex projects. Furthermore, the built-in plugin suite, including the PreSonus Classic Compressor, EQ, and Reverb, offers a comprehensive range of processing tools, allowing users to create high-quality mixes without relying on external plugins.
In addition to its technical merits, Studio One’s support team is renowned for its prompt and friendly response to user queries. Whether you’re a seasoned producer or a newcomer to music production, Studio One’s comprehensive resources and dedicated support team provide an unparalleled level of assistance, making it an ideal choice for anyone looking to create professional-grade music.
Overall, I find Studio One to be a powerful and reliable DAW that has become an essential part of my music production workflow. Its versatility, stability, and user-friendly interface make it an excellent choice for producers of all levels.
Fabfilter Pro-Q 3
The Fabfilter Pro-Q 3 is a vital component in my workflow, not only on this album but on every project I work on. As I believe that EQ is a crucial aspect of the music production and mastering process, I rely heavily on this plugin to get the sound just right. What I particularly appreciate about the Pro-Q 3 is its intuitive mid/side processing capabilities, which allow for precise control over the tone and balance of my tracks. Additionally, the plugin’s built-in frequency spectrum analyzer is incredibly useful, providing a visual representation of the audio signal that helps me identify and target specific frequencies with ease.
iZotope Ozone 11
iZotope Ozone 11 is the final plugin in my mastering chain. I’ve been using it extensively since its 11th iteration and I’m impressed by its versatility and effectiveness. Specifically, I really like the Exciter module, which adds subtle harmonics and tone-shaping capabilities to my master tracks.
I use almost every module in Ozone 11, but not heavily – just subtle tweaks to get the best sound. The plugin’s interface is easy to navigate, and it integrates well with my other plugins and processing chains. I appreciate the level of control it offers, from subtle EQ adjustments to more dramatic effects. Overall, Ozone 11 is a reliable and powerful tool for getting my mixes to sound their best.
Universal Audio – UAD Spark
I recently transitioned to Universal Audio’s (UAD) subscription-based plugin model, which has enabled me to access their renowned suite of emulations. As a result, I’ve been able to integrate several UAD plugins into my workflow, including the Pultec Passive EQ, Oxide Tape Recorder, and Capitol Mastering Compressor.
On my drum bus, I utilize the Pultec Passive EQ (Type T) to add subtle tone and definition to the mix. The Type T is particularly effective in enhancing the attack and clarity of the drum kit, allowing me to sculpt a more nuanced and detailed sound. When processing the master chain, I often employ the Oxide Tape Recorder plugin to impart a warm, analogue tape-like quality to the mix. This plugin’s ability to subtly add texture and saturation has been particularly effective in enhancing the overall cohesion and cohesion of the mix.
In select instances, I also utilize the Capitol Mastering Compressor as a first-stage compressor on my master chain. This plugin’s precision and transparency allow me to effectively control the dynamics of the mix, ensuring that the loudest peaks are gently reigned in while maintaining the overall dynamic range of the music. Whether used subtly or more aggressively, these UAD plugins have proven to be invaluable tools in my mixing arsenal, enabling me to craft mixes that are both sonically pleasing and musically effective.

After months of radio silence, the organizers of Electric Zoo New York 2023 have finally released a press statement. They addressed the long-awaited refund process for the ill-fated festival.
However, the announcement has been met with a mix of relief and outrage, further fueling the controversy surrounding one of the most disastrous events in recent memory.
The Refund Debacle: Too Little, Too Late?
According to the press release, ticketing provider See Tickets will commence issuing refunds to eligible ticket holders by July 19, 2024 – a staggering nine months after the festival took place.
The criteria for eligibility are specific, with only certain categories of ticket holders qualifying for partial or full refunds.
This stringent approach has drawn criticism from attendees who feel that all ticket holders should be entitled to a refund, given the widespread issues that plagued the event.
The Refund Process Breakdown: how to be refunded for Electric Zoo 2023?
According to the statement, See Tickets, the exclusive ticketing provider for Electric Zoo 2023, will commence issuing refunds to eligible ticket holders by July 19, 2024.
The press release outlines specific eligibility criteria for those seeking a refund:
Friday, September 1, 2023 single or multi-day ticket holders who have not filed a dispute/chargeback, nor previously received a face-value refund. These individuals are eligible for: 100% refund for Friday single-day ticket holders 50% refund for two-day ticket holders 33% refund for three-day ticket holders Sunday, September 3, 2023 single or multi-day admission ticket holders who were unable to access the event (as determined by entry scan data), and have not filed a dispute/chargeback, nor previously received a face-value refund. These individuals are eligible for: 100% refund for Sunday single-day ticket holders 50% refund for two-day ticket holders 33% refund for three-day ticket holders Eligible ticket holders will receive direct communication from See Tickets via email, providing further instructions on how to claim their refunds.

Poor Communication and Lack of Transparency
One of the most glaring issues highlighted by the refund announcement is the organizers’ poor communication and lack of transparency throughout the entire ordeal.
For months, attendees were left in the dark, with no clear information provided about the refund process or the festival’s future.
This absence of communication only served to exacerbate the frustration and mistrust among the once-loyal fanbase.
DJ 3LAU summed up the sentiment eloquently:
The DJ’s statement underscores the severe damage inflicted upon Electric Zoo’s reputation, with even industry professionals expressing skepticism about the festival’s viability moving forward.
But what happened back in 2023? Overcrowding, Gate-Crashing, and Safety Concerns
The refund announcement is a reminder of the multitude of issues that plagued Electric Zoo 2023.
From last-minute cancellations and overcrowding to gate-crashing incidents and safety concerns, the festival was a logistical nightmare.
Attendees recall harrowing experiences of being trapped in massive, uncontrolled crowds, with no clear exit routes or assistance from security personnel.
One attendee’s comments encapsulate the gravity of the situation:
The Future of Electric Zoo: Can Trust Be Regained?
As the refund process begins, the organizers of Electric Zoo face an uphill battle in regaining the trust and loyalty of their fanbase.
The festival’s reputation has been severely tarnished, with attendees vowing never to return and threatening further legal action if their demands for refunds are not met.
In their press release, the organizers acknowledged their shortcomings, stating, “We know we let you down. As we continue forward, we will work every day to earn back your trust and forgiveness.”
However, these words ring hollow to many, who view the organizers’ actions – or lack thereof – as a direct contradiction to their claims of prioritizing attendee satisfaction.
The road to redemption for Electric Zoo is a long and arduous one. Regaining the trust of attendees, artists, and industry professionals will require a complete overhaul of their operational practices, coupled with a sustained commitment to transparency and open communication.
Whether Electric Zoo will rise from the ashes or fade into obscurity remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – the event of 2023 will forever be a cautionary tale in the world of festival organization and attendee safety.

One of New York’s favourite electronic music festivals, Electric Zoo, made its 13th appearance in Randall’s Island last year, unfortunately with some problems that caused the first day of the event to be cancelled, a 2-hour delay to Saturday’s initial kick off time, endless queue lines and stopped further entry on the third day due to reaching full capacity.
Today, nine months later after the incidents, Electric Zoo has finally announced that all eligible ticket holders will be contacted directly via email and can expect refunds by July 19th. According to the organisers, you will have money back if:
September 1st, 2023, you held a single or multi day pass and have not filed a chargeback/dispute, nor previously received a face-value refund (100% for Sunday single day ticket holders; 50% for two day ticket holders and 33% for three day ticket holders). 2. September 3rd, 2023, you had a single or multi day admission ticket and were not able to enter the festival, as well as if you have not previously received a face-value refund.
In the announcement made by the festival’s official account, the organisers state that they know they have let their fans down and the goal of the 2023 edition was to bring them an incredible experience that included new stage concepts and a new, upgraded production for the event.
It is worth mentioning that the first day of the festival has been cancelled just 3 hours before open gates due to the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation refusing to grant permits, even though festival organisers claimed the issue was caused by global supply chain disruptions. The mainstage has remained unfinished for the rest of the festival, failing the organiser’s plans and desires for the 2023 edition.

Just as the reality of NYC having no major Labor Day Weekend festival is really and truly setting in, Electric Zoo returns from the dead…sort of. In its first social media post since September 3, 2023, Electric Zoom took to socials to address ongoing frustration about the lack of refunds from 2023’s disastrous outing. See Tickets will begin issuing refunds to all remaining eligible ticketholders, with refunds to be processed by July 19, 2024. Day 1 ticketholders who did not file a dispute/chargeback and have not yet been refunded will be refunded. Day 3 ticketholders who did not enter the festival (by entry scan date) and have not filed a dispute/chargeback will receive a partial refund as well.
Ezoo closed the letter by saying they will “work every day to earn back your trust and forgiveness”. That sounds like we can expect to hear from Electric Zoo again in the future, perhaps a 2025 return. As you might expect, the Facebook post is riddled with negative comments already. Do you think Electric Zoo deserves another chance?

Attendees of 2023's ill-fated Electric Zoo festival are set to receive refunds over nine months later, according to a statement released today by its organizers.
The New York-based electronic dance music festival, which took place over Labor Day Weekend, devolved into chaos on Randall's Island after the controversial cancellation of its first day, which organizers nebulously attributed to "supply chain disruptions" that hindered the construction of its mainstage.
Chaos then ensued on Electric Zoo's final day, September 3rd, which was plagued by capacity concerns. After organizers released a midday statement announcing they were denying entry to the festival's venue, videos of attendees aggressively storming its gates flooded social media.
Lawsuits piled up in the aftermath, including one contentious class action suit filed by a pair of plaintiffs who cited safety issues that arose from the "oversold and overcrowded" event. Following the festival's conclusion, Electric Zoo's owners said they planned on issuing refunds but refrained from announcing a formal solution.
Electric Zoo in 2022 was purchased by the investment group behind Brooklyn hotspot Avant Gardner. Roughly 88,000 people attended last year's festival, according to the NYPD, who confirmed at the time that the consortium oversold passes by roughly 7,000.
Electric Zoo has now announced its ticketing partner, See Tickets, will begin issuing refunds. All remaining eligible pass-holders will receive an email with instructions and can expect refunds to be processed by July 19th, they said.
"When we first set out to bring you Electric Zoo 2023, our goal was to create a completely leveled-up experience that included new stage concepts, enhanced production, and so much more," reads a statement issued by the festival. "We know we let you down. As we continue forward, we will work every day to earn back your trust and forgiveness."

John Summit‘s rise to Dance music superstardom is as unconventional as it is inspiring. He recently opened up about a handful of topics on Rolling Stone. As he gears up for a set at one of Las Vegas’ hottest nightclubs, you’d expect him to be in the midst of an electrifying pre-show ritual. Instead, he’s lounging in bed, eating an airport sandwich, and crafting what could be House music’s next big hit. “I try to make a new song for every set“, says Summit. Remarkably, most of his music comes to life from the comfort of his bed.
From CPA To EDM Phenomenon
Summit’s journey began in the Chicago suburbs, where he fell in love with House music in the city’s vibrant nightlife scene. While attending the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, he started DJing at bars, small clubs, and fraternity parties. After graduating, he briefly worked as a certified public accountant but quickly realized his passion for music far outweighed his interest in finance. “I was definitely let go from my job“, Summit admits, laughing. His dedication to music led him to relentlessly send demos to labels, eventually catching the attention of Defected Records with his track ‘Deep End‘.
The Road To Viral Hits
Summit’s persistence paid off, leading to a series of successes, including a remix of Kx5’s ‘Escape‘ and his viral hit ‘Where You Are‘ featuring Hayla. The track dominated the EDM scene, playing at festivals worldwide and securing a spot in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs. Summit and Hayla have since collaborated on ‘Shiver,’ a precursor to his eagerly anticipated debut album. “My original sound was Tech House, so there’ll be that on the album, and then I kind of got into trance-y sounds with ‘Where You Are’ and progressive sounds“, Summit explains.
Balancing Fame and Real Life
Despite his skyrocketing career, John Summit remains grounded. He’s known for his candid online presence and his ability to connect with fans. However, he navigates fame with a clear sense of boundaries. “I hate song requests”, he admits. “It makes me feel like a jukebox”. As he prepares for his headlining set at Madison Square Garden, Summit reflects on his journey. “I feel like I’m at the top of the world right now and I love it so much”, he says. His story is a testament to following one’s passion, even if it means starting from bed.

Are DJs tired of partygoers constantly requesting overplayed songs and not accepting no for an answer? DJ Pressplay, the resident DJ at Coda in Colchester, has implemented a price list for “overplayed songs”. Specifically for people who “don’t take ‘no’ for an answer anymore” when requesting music. Colin Gingell-Good shared that he has introduced written signs on his DJ booth in an interview with The Daily Gazette.
The Coda resident DJ introduced this price list in his DJ booth since April 2022. Charges include £50 for birthday requisitions, £100 for “songs that don’t fit the night” and those who want their song “played next because [they’re] leaving”. Lastly £500 for “insisting you know better than the DJ”. He goes onto explaining “overplayed” hits get special price points. Some of the steepest pricing include £250 for Kings Of Leon’s ‘Sex On Fire’, £500 for Oasis’s ‘Wonderwall’ and a whooping £1,000 for The Killers’ ‘Mr. Brightside’.
DJ PressPlay emphasizes that requests for good songs that fit the night and those people will enjoy the night free of charge. Gingell-Good stated that the price list acts as a “polite reminder“. It’s a lighthearted joke, which most people find amusing. It’s targeting people who insist on having their way and to avoid lengthy discussions about why he won’t play their songs.
Well fellow DJs what do you think? Let us know your thoughts, and stay tuned to EDMTunes for all your latest music updates.

From where I stood, the crowd gathered at West Hollywood Park resembled a gentle technicolor wave emerging from a horizon. I was a part of that crowd moments prior, riding the wave, merrily singing and dancing along to one of dance-pop's most iconic artists.
As I pulled myself away from that spirited crowd, I found myself under a multicolored tree. And it was there, beneath the twinkling lights, watching the audience so carefree and full of life, that I came to a humbling realization: it wasn't that long ago that we as queer people were not allowed to celebrate in this fashion.
When discussing the emergence of the gay rights movement, the Stonewall Riots of 1969 are considered to be the spark that lit the fuse. The series of demonstrations against the police raiding of a New York City gay bar were a direct response to the oppression faced by LGBT citizens at the time. The anniversary of the riots was marked by marches across major American cities, thus ushering in the modern-day gay pride parades.
Half a century later, Pride events have transformed from political calls for action to utopias celebrating everything queer, from self-expression to sexual freedom. This transformation continues into the 2020s, as evidenced by the recent addition of multi-day music festivals centered around pride.
"I think that it has been an evolution," Jeff Consoletti, CEO and Founder of OUTLOUD Music Festival, tells EDM.com. "You have to educate young people of where pride originated from, what Stonewall means, who these pioneers of LGBT history are, and why we have a Pride march."
Cyndi Lauper performing at WeHo Pride 2024.Jon Viscott
Consoletti created OUTLOUD in 2020 as an online platform for queer artists to showcase their talents during the COVID-19 pandemic. The project has now grown into a full-fledged music festival, partnering with the city of West Hollywood as its flagship WeHo Pride event.
"We want to be the epicenter of queer music, introducing rising artists with established acts that have a track record of servicing the LGBT community," Consoletti explains. "It doesn't necessarily mean that every artist on our bill has to be queer, as we gladly welcome allied artists that have been championing voices in our community for years."
As an independent producer, Consoletti emphasized the importance of embracing the diverse range of talented musicians found within queer spaces. And with electronic music having strong ties with the queer and Black communities, Consoletti knew he had to include dance music in the mix.
"You can't do any show these days without an electronic component," Consoletti adds. "This was one of our biggest DJ-driven lineups we've ever put together."
"Big" was an understatement. Over a three-day period, West Hollywood Park transformed into a haven for dance music enthusiasts. Beginning on Friday night, audiences were transported to electro-nirvana by way of 2010's dance party girl, Kesha.
Kesha performing at the 2024 OUTLOUD Music Festival.Steven On The Scene
Things kicked into high gear on Saturday as Yaeji, Channel Tres, Purple Disco Machine and EDM.com Class of 2022 alumni Kaleena Zanders energized crowds across both OUTLOUD's mainstage and the Summertramp-hosted stage.
Come Sunday, spirits were high as the post-Pride parade crowds emerged from the street party on Santa Monica Boulevard and flooded into the festival grounds.
On the mainstage, drag queen-turned-star DJ Trixie Mattel spun a mix of house music heaters, followed by Ashnikko and Big Freedia, who perfectly complimented each other with their dynamic performances.

Over on the sweltering Summertramp stage, Kiesza animated the dancefloor as she performed tracks off her latest album, Dancing and Crying: Vol. 1. The Canadian electro-pop songstress, who recently emerged from a hiatus after a severe car accident, emphasized how her road to recovery inspired her latest project.
"I sustained a brutal brain injury from a car crash in 2017," Kiesza told us onsite at OUTLOUD. "I've turned a corner now where I'm going to be able to come back to the dance scene. I've been a dancer my whole life and having lost that side of myself was truly tragic."
Kiesza's love for dance was most apparent in the timeless music video for her 2014 debut single, "Hideaway". The video, which sees her dancing through the busy streets of New York, was shot in a single take and has amassed over half a billion views on YouTube.
"I want my music to encourage people to be okay with who they are inside... if you know who you are, make that louder," Kiesza says. "Express that. Throw it out into the world. Even if people don't accept you, don't stop being you. We will all find each other eventually."
Kiesza wrapped up her WeHo Pride appearance with a performance of  "Hideaway" before leaving a note of encouragement to the gay community, with whom she has strong ties.
"I know we've come a long way, but there's still a lot left to do," she asserts. "I want to be in the forefront to help push that in the right direction."
The Summertramp stage was also host to another dance music diva, the house music vocal legend Crystal Waters. The iconic singer-songwriter put on a spectacle as she belted out her classic 90s hits "Gypsy Woman," "100% Pure Love" and "Destination Calabria."
As Waters' dynamic performance came to a close, the pulsating beats of electronica prevailed well into the evening. DJ Holographic, Hot Chip and Josh Peace took to the stage and aided in keeping the Summertramp faithful hot and steamy all night.
Back on the mainstage, the surge of energy emanating from the crowd only grew bigger as Diplo took to the decks. Blending together gay anthems and techno hits, he activated the audience, turning them into ravers for the evening.

After Diplo's heart-pounding performance, which included a surprise appearance by Bebe Rexha), West Hollywood was treated to an unforgettable spectacle of a show by OUTLOUD's top-billed headliner, Kylie Minogue, a dyed-in-the-wool queer icon in her own right.
Minogue's influence on dance music is undeniable. Everywhere you turned, audience members were singing and dancing along to hits like "Can't Get You Out of My Head," "Love at First Sight," "Get Out of My Way" and, of course, last year's runaway hit, "Padam Padam."

Back under that rainbow-colored tree, I watched as the happy-go-lucky, free-spirited crowd abandoned the dancefloor and dissipated into the street party behind me. But the gravity of the moment wasn't lost on me—I knew that despite all the progress for our community, the fight continues.
As for OUTLOUD Music Festival, Consoletti and his team managed to create an inclusive safe haven for music lovers of all genres. The event was the highlight of WeHo Pride and delivered on its mission to bring queer artists and allies together in celebrating the LGBT community.
"My relationship with the city of West Hollywood is incredibly important to me," Consoletti said. "There's no other municipality that will go all out for the queer community. So in terms of OUTLOUD at WeHo Pride, this show is not going anywhere."

Selected Ambient Works Volume II (abbreviated as SAW II)] is the second studio album by the British electronic music artist and producer Aphex Twin. It was released on 7 March 1994 through Warp Records. Billed as a follow-up to James’ debut Selected Ambient Works 85–92, the album differs in sound by being largely beatless ambient music. James said it was inspired by lucid dreaming and likened the music to “standing in a power station on acid.”
The album reached No. 11 on the UK Albums Chart. Selected Ambient Works Volume II had a mostly positive reception from critics on release and was later placed on various best-of-the-decade lists by publications such as Rolling Stone, Spin, and Pitchfork. Volume II is considered to be James’ shift from ambient techno to darker ambient music.
Selected Ambient Works Volume II (Expanded Edition) – is now available on 4xLP Standard, 3xCD, 2xCassette and a Limited Edition Boxset from 4 October 2024. Previously vinyl-only track ‘#19’ is out today.
The boxset contains the 4xLP in printed sleeves, a fold-out poster, a sticker sheet and a booklet featuring development sketches by designer Paul Nicholson. It is housed in a hinged oak case, with a bespoke etched copper plate. These are made to order, with no two copies the same. The boxset pre-order closes at 10 am BST, Monday 24 June.

The summer musical calendar just got a whole lot hotter with the arrival of OLING‘s latest single ‘Only Love‘. The single is out now on Jeremy Olander‘s esteemed Vivrant label. The melodic house gem marks the talented Swede’s second release of 2024 on the revered imprint.
OLING’s new single, Only Love
‘Only Love‘ is a potent shot of dancefloor euphoria, capturing the endless warmth and carefree bliss of the summer season. The buoyant, uplifting production is propelled by a throbbing bassline and skipping percussion groove. They provide the perfect backdrop for the emotionally charged vocals courtesy of Rebecca Scheja of Rebecca & Fiona fame. Her evocative delivery and the track’s irresistible lead melody tug at the heartstrings, destined to connect with audiences on a deeper level.
According to OLING, the seeds of ‘Only Love‘ were first planted back in 2020 at the Vivrant Winter Camp in Harads, Sweden when he received Scheja’s vocal stem. He spent the next three years carefully crafting and evolving the record into the finished product we hear today. “As I listen to the final version, I couldn’t be happier with the result,” he effuses.
OLING on tour
The summer-ready single arrives in the midst of OLING’s busy touring schedule that has him crisscrossing his homeland and beyond over the coming months. He’ll be joining Vivrant label boss Jeremy Olander for a series of high-profile gigs. It will include stops in Glasgow, Stockholm and the boutique Swedish festival Gagnef. He will play alongside dance music heavyweights like Laurent Garnier, Cristoph and Cocoon’s Harald Björk.
