Mentorship applications are now open for year two of the Freeform Forum programme, launched by the energy drink brand, Relentless. The initiative, designed to empower young, rebellious creators to break through industry barriers, will offer 12 young creatives between the ages of 18-25 the chance to learn how to push their creative boundaries and forge their career paths without limits, directly from leading music industry mentors.
This year’s programme, in collaboration with global creative studio network Pirate Studios, welcomes a new lineup of pioneering mentors. Each brings invaluable experience in disrupting the creative norm and carving their own path within the music industry. Spearheading the initiative is MOBO-nominated rapper, AntsLive, visionary dance music DJ and community studio founder Sherelle, all-round visual creative Ayshe Zaefoglu (AZ), and Burna Boy’s favourite film director Troy Roscoe.
The Freeform Forum mentors will be matched with three aspiring creatives within their field, guiding them through the completion of a creative project over the three-month programme (July-October). Each mentor will draw on their experiences of navigating the industry as creative outsiders, offering one-to-one guidance on how to creatively stand out and avoid being forced into restrictive industry norms. The mentorship programme, which aims to help level the playing field for emerging creatives by empowering them to play by their own rules, will also offer mentees access to in-person meet-ups and networking sessions, skill development workshops and tailored creative and technical advice, to help participants turn their creative into fully fledged live projects.
As part of the programme, applicants can sign up to take part in one of four creative categories:
“Music Artist” – with AntsLive: For the stage performers, songwriters, or budding artists eager to learn topics such as stage presence, crafting an EP, and mastering your flow.  “Music Production” – with Sherelle: For the beatmakers, mixers, and those looking to master both fields; Sherelle will be passing on her broad expertise, tailored towards projects such as creating an EP, or launching a mix-series. “Creative” – with AZ: For all those interested in visual storytelling; think photography, illustration and creative direction. Using budget-friendly digital tools and editing advice, mentees will be able to learn practical skills on how to build a stand-out brand & portfolio.  “Filmmaking” – with Troy Roscoe: For any aspiring directors in music. Those wanting to take their music videos to the next level can learn the ins and outs of producing compelling visuals, from editing skills to honing that creative vision for a particular artist.  The programme will conclude with one mentee receiving a £10,000 fund to help support their creative future and realise their visions. The winner will be appointed through a careful selection process, with one defining criteria; the project which pushes the most creative boundaries, bringing to life the very ethos of Freeform Forum.
When asked about the programme, AntsLive commented, “Freeform Forum is for people who want to rip up the rule book and create something totally unique and different. I’m looking forward to taking my mentees through what this means to me as an artist, and how this can help them on their creative journey in the music industry.”
This year, the Freeform Forum goes beyond mentorship with the new addition of a live-and-direct Discord chat forum. Open to the public, the forum encourages discussions, peer learning, and networking, helping to create a supportive community of like-minded individuals for creative exchange and inspiration. Elsewhere on the site, the ‘Skills Hub’, offers money-can’t-buy insights and practical tips from mentors and partners (including Pirate Studios) to navigate industry challenges, as well as tips specific to each creative category, such as creating a budget studio set at home, and where to get experience performing live.
The Freeform Forum is part of a wider Relentless ‘Freeform’ banner, set up to support subcultural scenes and champion creative freedom. This year, the platform will bring to life personal projects by AntsLive and Sherelle and play a supporting role at Notting Hill Carnival and within the UK grassroots music scene.
For information about the Freeform Forum and to submit your application before the 26th of June, please visit www.relentless.freeform.com

Techno titan Charlotte de Witte has once again taken New York City by storm with a weekend-long takeover that fuses music, fashion, and art.
Surprise Street Performance Shuts Down Orchard Street
In a repeat of last year’s viral moment, Charlotte de Witte kicked off her NYC takeover with a guerrilla-style pop-up DJ set on Orchard Street.
On Thursday evening, hundreds of New Yorkers flocked to the Lower East Side as de Witte performed an hour-long set from a booth positioned in the middle of the street.
The impromptu block party, hosted in collaboration with streetwear store EXTRA BUTTER, showcased the raw energy of both techno music and New York City itself.
For fans who missed the live action, the performance was captured in partnership with Beatport and Ray-Ban and is available for streaming online.
New Music and Massive KNTXT Show
De Witte’s NYC blitz coincides with the release of her latest single, “How You Move,” from the highly-anticipated ‘Roar‘ EP. The new track, which dropped on vinyl on June 20th, exemplifies de Witte’s boundary-pushing style and captures the essence of modern techno.
The highlight of the weekend has been the massive KNTXT show at Brooklyn Storehouse on Saturday, June 22.

Fashion and Art Collaborations
The techno phenomenon’s takeover extends beyond music, incorporating exciting collaborations in fashion and art:
EXTRA BUTTER X KNTXT Capsule Collection: De Witte unveiled a limited-edition collection featuring a NYC Bomber Jacket and new KNTXT apparel. The exclusive bomber jacket, retailing at $270, is available in extremely limited quantities at the EXTRA BUTTER Lower East Side store. THE SKATEROOM Art Collaboration: In a philanthropic twist, de Witte announced a partnership with THE SKATEROOM, an art collective known for collaborations with renowned artists. The collection includes three skateboard concepts – two solo decks and one triptych deck – which will be available for a limited five-day sale following the NYC events. For techno enthusiasts and culture aficionados alike, last weekend offers a unique opportunity to experience the multifaceted world of Charlotte de Witte.

In a recent post on his social media accounts, electronic music producer Deadmau5 delivered a scathing response to Spotify CEO Daniel Ek‘s controversial comments about the cost of creating content. The incident has reignited debates about artist compensation and the value of creative work in the digital streaming era.
The Spark: Ek’s Tweet
Daniel Ek, the CEO of Spotify, sparked the controversy with a tweet that read:
Ek continued his thread, musing about the longevity of content:
The Backlash: Deadmau5’s Fiery Response
Deadmau5, known for his outspoken nature and advocacy for artists’ rights, didn’t mince words in his reply to Ek’s statement. The Grammy-nominated producer fired back on Instagram:
This terse and pointed response encapsulates the frustration many artists feel toward streaming platforms and their perception of the creative process.
Unpacking the Controversy
Deadmau5’s reaction highlights several key issues:
The True Cost of Content Creation: While digital tools have made music production more accessible, the statement “the cost of creating content being close to zero” grossly oversimplifies the reality. It overlooks the years of training, practice, and experience that go into becoming a professional musician. Time as an Investment: Deadmau5 emphasizes the time investment required to hone one’s craft. The “25+ years” he mentions represent a lifetime dedicated to music, which cannot be quantified solely in monetary terms. Artist Compensation: The reference to “proceeds going to your company” touches on the ongoing debate about fair compensation for artists on streaming platforms. Many musicians argue that the current royalty rates do not adequately reflect the value of their work. The Value of Expertise: By reducing content creation to a near-zero cost activity, Ek’s statement could be seen as devaluing the expertise and artistry involved in producing high-quality music. Industry Implications
This exchange underscores the tension that exists in the music industry today. As streaming continues to dominate music consumption, the debate over fair compensation and the value of creative work is likely to intensify.
Artists, industry professionals, and fans alike will be watching closely to see how this conversation evolves and whether it leads to any meaningful changes in how streaming platforms approach artist relationships and compensation models.
One thing is clear: the path to harmonizing the interests of artists, platforms, and listeners in the digital age remains a complex and contentious issue, one that will require open dialogue and innovative solutions to resolve.

Layla Benitez and Eynka have worked together to make “No Place To Go,” out via Interstellar Recordings. This is Benitez’s first release with Insomniac Music Group.
Layla Benitez is a well-known face on Insomniac’s stages and the regular DJ at the famous Space Miami. She brings her deep knowledge of rhythms that make people happy to this collaboration. Her work with Eynka, two well-known melodic heavyweights in the UK, offers a mix of styles that is both new and old.
“No Place To Go” shows how well the artists can mix different types of music. The chorus of the song makes you want to sing along. It sounds like the indie dance music of the late 2000s, with bands like Empire of the Sun coming to mind. This nostalgic part perfectly matches Eynka’s signature sound. It is loud, razor-sharp melodies that have become their name in the UK scene.
Benitez‘s natural understanding of how dance floors work and Eynka’s skill as a producer have come together to make a track that can be played on the radio or in clubs. The catchy singing over the pulsing beats make you want to move. The intricate melodic elements give the song depth and complexity that makes it worth listening to more than once.

Once simply another coveted ID, "Lights Go Out" from What So Not, Benson and Lucy Lucy is now the immortalization of the artists' decade-long friendship.
"This tune was birthed from FM synthesis and true friendship," What So Not explained. "Benson letting me sleep on his couch all those years ago so I could afford my first ever gigs in Melbourne, and Lucy living down the street from my parents, doing some of her first solo recordings with me in my bedroom studio. It’s been a long time coming for everyone hounding my DMs about it and now it's finally here for the world!"

Recorded between Sydney and Melbourne, the track made its grand debut at What So Not's recent sold-out show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. The premiere at such an iconic venue illuminated the track's potential, instantly resonating with fans and sparking requests for its official release.
"Lights Go Out" opens with bell-like synth melodies resonating with crystalline clarity above a foundation of thumping 808s. The formidable percussion work provides a solid backbone, grounding the track's ethereal soundscapes and vocals with a contrasting edge.
As What So Not prepares to launch his "Dance Dance Revival" tour across Australia, "Lights Go Out" serves as both a rallying cry and a testament to the resilience of the local Australian dance music scene. The tour aims to revitalize the industry and offer emerging artists a platform to showcase their talents, a mission close to What So Not's heart and a timely initiative given the impact of recent festival cancellations on the Australian dance music community.

Mind Against may be known for their eerie melodic techno sounds, but their new single, "Love Seeking," ventures into a new direction. The track is an ode to finding love on the dancefloor that channels the duo's roots through uplifting melodies.
Brimming with elation, "Love Seeking" takes a starkly different approach to Mind Against's sound by swapping dark, thumping techno for sun-kissed disco beats, Mind Against could be turning a new page with the song, where euphoric vocals compliment a funky bassline infused with a heavy dose of groove.
Mind Against's stunning new live show, ORBITAL, had already been captivating crowds across the globe prior to the release of "Love Seeking." Ever wondered what a Daily Bread show is like? Those who haven't experienced one needn't wonder anymore after the producer dropped a new mixtape, "Flash Flood II," packed to the brim with loads of unreleased tracks and edits.
Featured on the mixtape are 25 carefully-curated tracks by which many fans are able to identify samples and bits from his shows. This includes a remix of Tommy Richman's immensely popular "MILLION DOLLAR BABY" and flips of "Push it to the Limit" and "Two Hundred on the Dash."
In many of the tape's tracks—if not all of them—listeners can easily identify Daily Bread's signature eerie and wobbling sounds, making them feel like they're in a vintage alien film. Although this concoction of tracks serves as a sequel to the first "Flash Flood" tape, he's stranger to the art of a mixtape. Daily Bread, whose real name is Rhett Whatley, ensures that none of his favorite old-school tracks ever stale with an arsenal of tapes going all the way back to 2014.
Proudly hailing from Atlanta, Whatley has been honing his sound for nearly 10 years, starting first from his bedroom before releasing music under the St. Louis-based Philos Records banner. He resides there alongside artists with a similar penchant for cosmic, bass-laden beats such as Artifakts, Derlee and Late Night Radio, all of whom regularly appear in his mixes.

Toying with the boundary between sorrow and exhilaration, Seven Lions' new single shows us that sometimes, the two can coexist.
Out now via Casablanca Records, the bouncy four-on-the-floor track paints a picture of two individuals intertwined for a length of stunted time. Hilda's lustful vocals highlight the ease with which the two coalesce, having nothing and no one.
At the same time, the lyrics illuminate the unfortunate side of that connection—that it's just as easy for them to detach from each other. Though for the time being, the two can dance as easy lovers, as the title suggests.
"Easy Lover" will have your body warring with itself, trying to decide if it should glide through the clouds on the wings of Hilda's soaring vocals or stay grounded to Seven Lions' beat on a glittering dancefloor. Take a listen below.
The new single follows the popular "Not Even Love," released by Seven Lions in March in collaboration with ILLENIUM and ASDIS. He's currently on tour, gearing up for a performance at Electric Forest tonight before appearances at North Coast and Insomniac's Lost In Dreams Festival, among others.

Showtek, who many have come to know as an influential force in the electronic dance music community, are making a 360° turn back to their hardstyle roots after releasing their new album, 360 Blue.
The album consists of 15 tracks, starting with "Dear Hardstyle" featuring Earl St. Clair, which they released late last year as a love letter to the genre in which they first released music back in 2003. Other collaborators on the new album include Zany, DJ Isaac, Sub Zero Project, Steve Aoki, Wildstylez and Radical Redemption, among others.
"After taking a 12-year break from the genre, we have reignited it with new gained experience, a fresh approach, more mature but still Showtek," the duo gushed in a statement. "Melodic, anthemic, and with a message. This is high-energy."
The talents of Showtek are twofold, with the Dutch brotherly duo of Wouter and Sjoerd Janssen having solidified themselves as mainstays of EDM for the last two decades. Popular collaborations like the immensely popular "Booyah" (with We Are Loud and Sonny Wilson) only scratch the surface.
Though unique in its hardstyle makeup, 360 Blue continues Showtek's theme of naming albums after primary colors. Fans saw this pattern emerge with 2023's 360 Yellow, which was heavy on their big room house sound. The pair now plans to release 360 Red later this year.
"After producing a variety of genres over the last 20 years, we felt it was time to bundle each genre into its own primary colour in the '360' project," they explained. '360' tells and captures our story of being more of an all-round act, having toured around the globe multiple times, and showing our love, passion, dedication, and appreciation for all the genres in the electronic music space. Being a DJ allows you to touch base with many different cultures worldwide; it's hard to just stick to one thing or genre."
"As a human you grow, you develop, you broaden your horizon, or just look at things differently. It's important to transcend that into your music as well. Different music is made for different moments, and scenarios. Festivals, clubs, venues, sports stadiums, radio, beach, road trips, etc. We aim to showcase the wide range of passion for different styles under one umbrella."
