Two people have passed away after attending the 2024 edition of Lost Lands in Ohio, the festival's organizers confirmed today. "We are deeply saddened to share that two individuals who attended the event passed away over the weekend in separate incidents," Lost Lands said in a statement shared on social media. "We extend our sincere condolences to their family, friends, and loved ones." "The health, safety and welfare of our fans and community are our top priority. The exact causes of these tragedies are unrelated to any vehicle incident and remain unknown. We will not provide further details out of respect for the families' privacy." The Licking County Sheriff's Office had earlier announced the deaths of two men: James Phromphanh, 34 and an unnamed 27-year-old man. It's unclear at this time whether or not substances or alcohol played a role, and a toxicology report is pending. The family of Phromphanh has launched a fundraising campaign to aid in the process of retrieving his body. "He passed away in another state, and we just want to bring him home to Texas and give him a proper ceremony with his loved ones," they said via GoFundMe. In a separate incident, a man was arrested after allegedly driving his vehicle into a number of tents within the campgrounds of Lost Lands, one of the nation's top electronic music festivals. Noah Curtis, 24, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated vehicular assault after injuring two people, one of whom was reportedly hospitalized with a broken hip. Lost Lands 2024 began Friday, September 20th and concluded Sunday, September 22nd. We at EDM.com express our sincere condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of the victims during this difficult time.
Two independent music festivals, Chicago’s North Coast Music Festival and Ohio’s Lost Lands Festival, which had aimed to earn around $70,000 by discreetly reselling VIP tickets through the now-defunct ticketing platform Lyte, are now facing losses exceeding $300,000 each, according to court records. The two festivals are involved in two separate lawsuits — one in New York for North Coast and the other in Los Angeles for Lost Lands. These lawsuits offer the first details about Lyte’s sudden collapse earlier this month.
Lyte’s abrupt shutdown, with no prior warning to its hundreds of clients, revealed that its CEO, Ant Taylor, a Princeton graduate and former media executive, had shifted the company’s business model towards large-scale ticket reselling. Although Lyte was promoted as a peer-to-peer ticket exchange, court documents reveal that much of its revenue came from working with promoters to sell large numbers of VIP tickets at inflated prices, splitting the profits with event organizers.
One court filing shows that of the 3,064 tickets listed for North Coast Music Festival (held Aug. 30 to Sept. 1), only 89 tickets were sold by fans. Lyte used these listings to attract traffic to an additional 2,975 tickets posted by the festival’s promoters, with a face value of roughly $287,750.
Lyte then resold these tickets on its platform, generating $426,912 — a 48% increase, or around $139,162 in added revenue. This amount was to be split equally between Lyte and the festival’s promoters. North Coast Music Festival was set to receive $69,581, which would have been a 24% increase over their expected ticket sales revenue. However, none of this revenue was paid to the North Coast Music Festival, and the festival also didn’t receive the $287,750 it was owed from the ticket sales listed on Lyte.
Similarly, the organizers of Lost Lands Music Festival, claim they are owed $330,000 for tickets sold through Lyte, plus additional revenue from markups. According to their lawsuit (filed under the corporate name APEX Management), Lyte had provided APEX with a $100,000 advance to use the platform, which APEX repaid by early September.
Though much of the Lost Lands lawsuit is heavily redacted, it gives some insight into the timeline of Lyte’s downfall. A court filing states that APEX’s consultant for Lost Lands, concert promoter AEG Presents, learned that Taylor resigned as Lyte’s CEO on September 12, and that the company had halted nearly all its operations and laid off most of its employees, as mentioned by attorney Eric Levinrad in the filing.
Stay tuned for more news!

How do you improve a track that’s phenomenal already? Well, you release a remix of it, of course. This is what the Experts Only label boss John Summit did for one of his star songs of his debut album Comfort in Chaos. Thus, House music icon Max Styler rendered his vision of ‘Tears’ featuring vocalist Paige Cavell, for a wonderful journey ahead. The track is avaibale on both Darkroom and Experts Only.
‘Tears’ (Max Styler Remix)
Just as Max Styler does, he brings out an incredible side of Tears that can be interpreted differently from the original. With haunting reverbs, and incredible depth, the remix showcases Styler’s capabilities to showcase different emotions, while highlighting the strongest elements from the original track. Paige Cavell’s vocals now turn into an empowered version of the original, and the feeling of sadness washes away. These tears are stronger than ever. Max Styler has run the track his most recent shows, and it has brought joy and empowerment to live audiences everywhere.
John Summit remains busy as ever with sold out shows and massive success from his debut album. This years highlights include touring with Dom Dolla and their Everything Always duo shows, Coachella,The Gorge, and EDC. Up next, Daddy Summit will visit San Francisco at the Cow Palace venue. Moreover, he has two sold out nights and added a third night at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles in November.
Even when your tears cascade, know that the sun will shine on your face once again. Here’s ‘Tears’ (Max Styler’s Remix):

DJ and producer TOKiMONSTA has announced the postponement of her Eternal Reverie album release and cancellation of her upcoming tour due to “an extremely urgent personal matter.” The artist posted the announcement on social media yesterday, stating she is safe and healthy, but she needs to direct her energy to family matters at this time.
TOKiMONSTA announced her Eternal Reverie album and accompanying tour earlier this summer, which was set to kick off at the end of this month with numerous stops across the U.S. She’s released three singles off the album so far, including ‘… Switch It,’ ‘Corazón / Death by Disco, Pt. 2,’ and most recently, ‘On Sum.’ According to Spotify, the album is now set to release on March 7th, 2025, but this is likely still to be determined, pending the status of TOKiMONSTA’s personal affairs.
About TOKiMONSTA
Born as Jennifer Lee in the Southern California city of Torrance, TOKiMONSTA is known for her creative production, particularly in instrumental Hip-Hop. She’s also one of the top Asian-American EDM artists, and received a Grammy Awards nomination in 2019 for her 2017 album, Lune Rouge.
In late 2015, TOKiMONSTA was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease, a progressive cerebrovascular disease which constricts certain arteries in the brain. She has spoken openly about her experience suffering from aphasia, which is a loss of ability to understand or express speech, caused by brain damage. According to a recent article from NPR, the level of TOKiMONSTA’s aphasia was so severe that she was unable to speak. TOKiMONSTA later went through two brain surgeries in January 2016 and has since made a full recovery.
While the album postponement and tour cancellation is disappointing for all TOKiMONSTA fans, we are keeping her and her family in our thoughts at this time and hope to see her back in action soon.

Wireless earbuds are the norm in 2024, but they can be expensive and easy to lose. Fortunately, Jabra’s wireless earbuds, typically priced at $170, are currently available at Best Buy for just $33.99 due to stock clearance. These earbuds feature Bluetooth Multipoint, allowing connection to two devices at once, and six microphones for clear calls. With seven hours of battery life and 28 additional hours from the charging case, it’s a great deal, but supplies are limited and won’t last long at this price.
Jabra’s buds are also rain and dust-proof, ensuring they withstand everyday life for the duration of their two-year warranty, and hopefully a lot longer.

HI-LO, the darker, more Underground Techno alter ego of DJ/ producer/ HILOMATIK label head Oliver Heldens, is a well-established Drumcode denizen. With three EPs and a VA track already adorning Adam Beyer’s imprint, Oliver has taken the Techno world by storm.
Now he enlists LUSU, the futuristic, high-energy Techno project of producers Wiwek and Mike Cervello, for the exhilarating streaming single ‘DIZZY’— the two-track eponymous EP which follows on 27th September.
‘DIZZY’ is a frantically hyper yet expertly crafted track. A Superspeed Techno beat and pumping percussion, backed by subtle but slightly ominous bass synth. Intervals of Melodic House synth chords in the breakdowns and epic drops keep the tracking moving forward.
The vocal sample referenced in the track title is a feature throughout, beginning as a highly processed riff, and emerging as the much-loved acapella quatrain from Game’s 1991 cut ‘U Turn Me On’ pitch-shifted and speed up to the max.
HI-LO is having an incredible year releasing one of my personal favorites of his ‘BADDADAN BAD’. As well as collaborations with Space 92 and Maddix.
Make sure to check out ‘DIZZY‘ below!

Indie Dance Trio Pushes Boundaries with Genre-Bending Sophomore Album
Out now on 20/20 Vision Recordings
Los Angeles trio, ASHRR, announces the release of their eagerly awaited second album, Sunshine Low, via 20/20 Vision Recordings. Renowned for their eclectic blend of electronic soul, post-punk, space disco, and indie dance, ASHRR’’s new album weaves the feel of dreamy summer nostalgia with the pulse of late-night thrills, creating an unforgettable soundtrack.
The album showcases standout tracks such as “Fizzy,” a 70’s influenced soul-drenched dub-disco meets NYC underground jam, and “Sway,” which has echoes of Roxy Music and post-punk dance floor favorites. “Please Don’t Stop The Rain” offers a DJ influenced electronic soul track with an unforgettable hook, while “Sun Song” mixes in world music influences and modern psychedelia. On “No Garden,” ASHRR mixes hip-hop beats with jazz-infused soul, and dub, powered by deep basslines and hypnotic percussion. The track’s dark, moody vibe is laced with psychedelic undertones, while the defiant lyrics—”I won’t let you take me down”—bring an edge of resilience and resolve.
“Different Kind of Life” captures the essence of samsara—the endless cycle of desire, always yearning for more, never satisfied with the present. The song’s Afrobeat rhythms nod to the late ’70s, fused seamlessly with the raw energy of post-punk. It’s the kind of soul-drenched, dance floor anthem Larry Levan would have spun at Paradise Garage, turning Saturday night into an ecstatic release.
“The chemistry between us was immediate,” Josh Charles of ASHRR reflects on the two year recording of the album. “Sunshine Low emerged from the pandemic and captures the profound connection we’ve forged over the years. We’ve woven influences from 70s psychedelia and afrobeat, 80s alternative, and contemporary electronic music into something we hope becomes truly timeless. With Sunshine Low, we’ve embraced our roots in soul, funk, jazz, and experimental music, crafting something that’s both reflective and joyous. We’re excited to share this album with the world.”
Composed of lead vocalist Steven Davis and producers Josh Charles and Ethan Allen, ASHRR has gained recognition for their unique fusion of rich harmonies, immersive soundscapes, and versatile songwriting. Their diverse backgrounds—spanning all genres —infuse their music with a captivating depth.
Josh added, “When we met Ethan, it was just a given that we were going to end up making music together. There is a unique bond between the three of us. We have a brotherhood basically. It’s an honor and thrill to be able to call these guys my friends”.
In addition to the new album, ASHRR’s dedication to dance music is further highlighted by their collaboration with UK’s Felix Dickinson, who reimagined “Fizzy” for the celebrated Crazy P Curate: Vol 1, along with previously released remixes from System Olympia, Massimiliano Pagliara, Lovefingers, and Scientist, expanding the trio’s indie-electronic sound into clubland.
Fans can also look forward to a special edition of their alter ego hybrid ASHRR SOUNDSYSTEM remixes of the full album, offering a dynamic, immersive experience on the dancefloor.

For many fans, electronic dance music is more than just sounds out of a computer—it's therapy. A new study highlights just how transformative EDM can be for mental health, shedding light on why so many listeners turn to the genre in times of emotional need. Conducted by the team behind Tebra's The Intake platform, a comprehensive online resource designed to help independent healthcare practices, the study analyzed over 68,000 Spotify tracks and surveyed more than 1,000 people to explore how music supports mental wellbeing. The findings revealed a profound connection between EDM and mental health as more than 1 in 10 respondents identified it as their "go-to genre when feeling sad or depressed." This comes as no surprise to longtime enthusiasts, who often describe the genre as a release valve for pent-up anxiety. Whether it's the euphoric atmosphere of a rave or the tranquility of chill electronic streaming session, EDM offers a unique blend of escapism and community that many other genres lack. About 43% of EDM fans reported being in good mental health and nearly 8 in 10 people surveyed overall said they’ve used music in general to pull themselves out of a dark time, further reinforcing its transformative power. Healthcare professionals also backed these claims. About 1 in 3 healthcare professionals think EDM is the best genre for improving mental health, the study says. The music's naturally rhythmic properties are key to uplifting moods, reducing stress and even creating feelings of unity and joy—while dancing solo or in a crowd of thousands. As mental health becomes a more prevalent conversation in today's global music community, Tebra's findings shine a spotlight on the genre's ability to connect people to their emotions in a way that feels both therapeutic and freeing. Check out the company's full study here.

Ibiza Icon Luciano
This award goes to anyone who has, over a long time, made a profound impact on the scene in Ibiza. Someone who has played multiple venues, grown with the success of the island, and given back to it in a social capacity. Cadenza boss Luciano is very much that man. He has DJed in the local prison, hosted talks at public schools, played every venue on the island, held legendary residencies, lived in Ibiza for years and made Spain his home. He has always stayed true to his art and will always be synonymous with the White Isle.
He very much helped to transform the Ibiza scene from the early years of Ushuaia to the famous residencies at Pacha, bringing real underground quality and forward thinking sounds before anyone else.
Ibiza Party of the Summer
David Guetta’s F*** Me I’m Famous at Ushuaia and Future Rave at Hi Ibiza
This award does what it says on the tin. The success of a party isn’t judged by the number of attendees, it’s about the commitment to creating a unique experience, the loyalty to a venue and ability to showcase a wide spectrum of creative sounds and abilities and have a real impact on dancers.
The famous Frenchman is the only DJ on the island to host two of his own parties and they are the only place he plays in the summer which is a throwback to how parties used to be run back in the day. They very much showcase different sides of his sounds – FMIF is more commercial and VIP lead, while Future Rave offers up and comers a chance to shine. Both events place huge attention on the production with dancers, performers and the VIP experience all taken care of.
Ibiza Track of the Summer
Adam Port, Stryv – Move feat. Malachiii
Historically, this has always been a track you hear in the day, at night, on the beach, in the super clubs.
And that is certainly the case this year. This track has been played by everyone from all different musical backgrounds, in beach bars and in the main room, on terraces and at villa parties. It has had more than 200 million streams on Spotify and crossed over into so many different worlds. It’s catchy, singalong and the true sound of summer.
What’s Hot Global
Keinemusik
This is a new category given to a brand or artists that have elevated themselves in the last year onto a whole new level of popularity and success. Keinemusik have done just that and have been everywhere this year playing standout sets in Ibiza but also hosting their own unique events under their iconic cloud. They are able to pull in crowds of up to 35000 people at festival sized events and they always sell out, such is their appeal to a wide range of clubbers from all musical backgrounds and ages. The trio have also done lots for up and coming artists., have remained true to their core and even recently raised 100, 000 euros for charity in Ibiza.
Global Festival
Defected Croatia
This award is given to a festival that has been newly or re-established and is doing something fresh on a global scale such as invigorating a new territory, promoting a certain sound or genre and putting a scene or place on the map. Defected’s superb three day festival in Tisno, Croatia has done just that. It is loyal to the label’s famous house roots with a wonderful mix of established, new and upcoming artists. The audience is diverse in terms of age, gender and sexuality with local and international acts all featuring in a house-centric soundtrack that is both quintessential and cutting-edge.
Play It Back Award
Michael Bibi’s One Life Campaign
This is an award given to a person, institution or event that has bettered the scene socially, charitably or in a humanitarian fashion. After his very public battle with central nervous system lymphoma and recent return to full health, Michal Bibi has put great focus on raising awareness about the rare form of brain cancer he suffered from. He has put a real spotlight on it with his One Life campaign and deserves great recognition. He has raised plenty of money including £124,832 made from his Finsbury Park takeover in London which went to Royal Marsden Cancer Charity but also has a policy of creating awareness at his events. That one in London had a stem cell transplant charity on site to help recruit attendees to sign up to the stem cell register. This forward thinking, positive, altruistic action has all been done from the dance floor up so makes Bibi a more than worthy recipient.
Eye on… USA
Gospel New York
This annual award shifts the focus onto a different territory, starting with America, the birthplace of house music.
New York’s Gospel club has had great success in just a few short years. James Huddleston and Juriel Zeligman are the co-founders and the venue is well run with a great mix of regular guests doing their own promotions. It’s a great throwback to how the scene was when it was first born in the 80s with serious focus on the music and residents. The club is a great modern addition to the city but one that never forgets the roots of the scene.
Dance Floor Moment
In the run up to the awards, people all over the world will have the chance to come to Ibiza dn collect a genuine DJ Award on stage with all the other winners. People have been uploading clips of their favourite dancefloor moments to instagram and tagging @thedjawards with the hashtag #DANCEFLOORMEMORY. This is the start of an annual campaign that will see us recognise the best moments every year of the people who make it all possible, the fans and clubbers of the world.

When Chicago house and Detroit techno emerged in the 1980s, Dutch music fans were among the first in Europe to welcome it with open arms and open minds. From the beginning, Amsterdam was at the forefront of electronic dance music innovation, breeding iconic clubs such as RoXY and iT to champion the new music genres, with established venues like Melkweg and Paradiso following suit. Now a new chapter in music tech is being written at The Other Side, a cutting-edge club founded by producers and musicians Doeshka Vrede and Jasper Löwik, where the rich history of Dutch dance culture meets the future of sound.
For Vrede and Löwik, already established figures in Amsterdam’s music scene with their own agency and record label, and now owners and managers of The Other Side together with sound engineer and spatial audio expert Stefan Liem, it was important for the venue to be at the forefront of technology and to deliver new experiences to their audience. “Dutch people have always been at the forefront of technology,” Vrede says. “The environment for electronic music has always been great here.”
The catalyst for audio revolution came through Vrede and Löwik’s collaboration with End of Time, a group of acoustic and electronic musicians signed to The Other Side’s agency. End of Time had been experimenting with spatial sound systems for years, and their artist-in-residence status at the club allowed for extensive experimentation with immersive audio setups. “We built a studio for End of Time to be our artist-in-residence at the club. Stefan Liem is their sound architect, and he would sometimes build their spatial setup in the club and experiment with it on dark days. This was our inspiration for asking them what it would take to install a proper immersive system in the club.”
Outfitting their 900-capacity main room with L-Acoustics L-ISA immersive audio technology made The Other Side the first club in the world to fully embrace spatial audio. This move not only honoured Amsterdam’s legacy of innovation but also set a new standard for clubbing experiences worldwide.
“It was our mission to make spatial audio available to the public,” Löwik says. “We’re exploring new ways to enhance the dance floor experience. With spatial audio, music becomes clearer and more accurate, allowing listeners to enjoy it from anywhere in a room. I believe we’re just beginning to realize how much better music can sound in this format.”
The technology is not just changing live performances; it’s reshaping the entire creative process. Some artists are now producing music at home with L-ISA software, eager to bring their projects to The Other Side, which has become a playground for sonic innovation. The club works closely with performers, helping them adapt to and exploit the possibilities of spatial audio. “Stefan reaches out to show them how it works. Even if an artist is only sending out a stereo signal, Stefan manages the spatial mapping, showing them how it looks on the computer,” explains Vrede. “There is definitely a heightened energy level among the artists who understand the system. This enthusiasm is contagious, with artists returning repeatedly to explore the creative potential of L-ISA immersive sound.”
The club owners have also worked with artists producing music at home with L-ISA software, who want to hear their projects in a larger venue on a professional sound system. As for those artists already working and regularly performing using L-ISA, “They really prefer our venue for their events. One has already been here four times,” Vrede reports. “There are also artists who hear a spatial set and want to dive in and develop something similar. All the artists who have played on our system want to come back.”
“L-Acoustics did a wonderful job making the lives of musicians and producers so much easier,” Löwik says. “From experience, we know how complicated other immersive technology can be to configure, but the L-ISA technology is practically plug and play. You can just dive into the experience and it’s so much more fun.”
As word spreads, The Other Side is becoming a hub for those curious about the future of sound. “Now we get requests from people who want to organize events or presentations here. Everybody wants to be in on our party,” Vrede says with pride.
