Get ready to sing, cry, and maybe even propose because Grammy-nominated bass music duo SLANDER is back with another emotional anthem teaming up with Nikademis and Poo Bear on ‘If Tomorrow Never Happens.’
SLANDER, known for hits like ‘Love Is Gone’ and ‘All You Need To Know’ joins forces with songwriting legend Poo Bear. Poo Bear’s magic touch has graced tracks by Justin Bieber and Skrillex, and his ability to craft tear-jerking anthems perfectly complements SLANDER’s signature sound. Rounding out the dream team is electronic music producer Nikademis, adding his production prowess to the mix.
SLANDER and Poo Bear debuted the track live at Ultra Music Festival in Miami, then brought the heat again during SLANDER’s headlining set at EDC Las Vegas 2024. The response was electric, proving this collaboration is a recipe for fan-favorite status.’
‘If Tomorrow Never Happens’ is all about living in the moment. The opening is a masterclass in building anticipation. Soothing vocals and a gentle rhythm lull you into a sense of calm, punctuated by the haunting question, “If tomorrow never happens?” Then, the song explodes into a moment of pure euphoria. Infectious vocals and pulsating beats combine to create an irresistible urge to move, to lose yourself in the moment, and celebrate the beauty of seizing the moment.
“We are thrilled ‘If Tomorrow Never Happens’ is finally out! Getting to work with Nikademis and Poo Bear was incredible. They are both immense talents and we are so happy with how the final version turned out! We hope you enjoy it and we thank you for listening!” – SLANDER
‘If Tomorrow Never Happens’ is one of the most meaningful songs I’ve had the opportunity to work on. It’s an emotional journey that is so well conveyed by Poo Bear’s passionate and moving performance on this track. For me it’s a reminder to try to live life everyday to the fullest and always be present in the moment with our loved ones. It’s been a dream come true to work with SLANDER who I’ve looked up to as artists and individuals for so long, and with Poo Bear whose talents are lent something to this track beyond what I could’ve ever dreamed of” – Nikademis
Denver-based producer Nikademis is taking the EDM scene by storm with his unique blend of dark, atmospheric soundscapes and uplifting melodies and vocals. This 25-year-old Long Island native has quickly built a reputation for crafting powerful tracks, evident in hits like ‘I Don’t Wanna Know’ (with Friendzone and Candace Sosa), ‘Talking to Ghosts’ (with We Are Fury and SOUNDR), and his official remix of ILLENIUM’s Grammy-nominated ‘U & Me’ from ‘Fallen Embers. His distinctive style has caught the attention of industry heavyweights like ILLENIUM, Dabin, William Black, and Blanke. This year alone, he’s impressed with ‘Waking Up in a Dream’ (with 9 Worlds and Donna Tella) and ‘Numb’ (with LEUTHERO and Skye Silansky).

Producing glossy, timeless dance-pop that defied his age, Whethan released the first Life of a Wallflower album nearly six years ago. 19 at the time, he produced an album replete with starry-eyed anthems about the elusive search for love.
Today's release of Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2 presents a new artist entirely—one who has lost that romanticized youth and must burrow into its shadows. Crafting a stunning sequel that convulses with the tortured energy of growing pains, the effort marks a stark departure from the wide-eyed optimism of its predecessor, instead painting a raw portrait of disillusionment.
A departure from the bubbly production of its predecessor, the album thrashes with a dizzying barrage of distorted bass that feels both expansive and claustrophobic—much like the minds of those navigating the tumultuous waters of early adulthood. Its song titles intrinsically reflect that internal struggle, with tracks like "sick of myself" and "PLACE IN MY MIND" taking us straight into the tormented mind of an artist grappling with the pitfalls of a loss of innocence.
Whethan fills that void with dark, hedonistic club bangers designed for reckless abandon, like the down-and-dirty house track "ROOM IS ON FIRE" (featuring AG Club) and the disco-fueled "DO YOU REMEMBER?." In the latter, he channels the head-in-the-clouds naïveté of Vol. 1 but shatters its veneers, swallowing the bitter aftertaste of a love he was told would last forever.
You can listen to Life of a Wallflower, Vol. 2 below and catch Whethan on the album's dedicated tour.

John Summit, the dynamic DJ/producer known for his electrifying performances and hit tracks, recently sat down with the GRAMMYs to discuss his long-awaited debut album, Comfort in Chaos. This release marks a significant milestone in his career, a testament to over a decade of dedication and musical evolution.
Comfort in Chaos, a body of work that has made waves far and wide building up to its release, is finally out now. You can find a complete review on it made by our team, by clicking this link right here.
The Journey to ‘Comfort in Chaos’
“I always wanted to do an album“, Summit reveals. The path to Comfort in Chaos was far from straightforward. Despite his success on major stages worldwide, it took him over ten years of producing and eight years of releasing music to feel confident enough to create a full-length album. This journey wasn’t just about technical growth but also about understanding his unique sound and artistic identity.
Balancing Life and Music
In a candid moment, Summit admits, “I’m a little hungover, but I’m hanging in there“, reflecting on a rare night out with friends. Despite his demanding schedule, he cherishes these glimpses of normalcy. Summit’s rise to fame began with the 2020 hit ‘Deep End,’ released just months into global lockdown. His momentum continued with tracks like ‘Thin Line’ with Guz and ‘Sun Came Up’ with Sofi Tukker. As live events resumed, he graced stages from EDC Las Vegas to Madison Square Garden, launched his label Experts Only — formerly Off The Grid —, and maintained a vibrant social media presence, all while working on his debut album.
Creating Comfort in Chaos
The creation of Comfort in Chaos was a deeply personal endeavor for Summit. “The album showcases my past, present, and possible future“, he says. Tracks like ‘EAT THE BASS’ highlight his club roots, while hits like ‘Where You Are’ and ‘Shiver’ with Hayla reflect his evolution towards more melodic, lyric-focused music. The album also explores new sounds beyond his usual House and Techno style, revealing a broader artistic vision.
Summit’s month-long retreat in London was crucial for this project. He rented a studio house, inviting collaborators like Sub Focus, Hayla, and Julia Church. “It was great to make an actual body of work instead of just festival music“, he notes, emphasizing the importance of stepping back from touring to focus on creative exploration.
The Duality of John Summit
The album’s title, Comfort in Chaos, reflects Summit’s personal journey. It captures the balance between his public persona as an energetic DJ and his introspective self, John Schuster. “I’ve been portraying this John Summit image my whole career, but in reality, I’m John Schuster“, he explains. This duality is a central theme of the album, showcasing his ability to find peace amidst the chaos of his life.
Summit’s collaboration with Kaskade on the album is particularly meaningful. Kaskade, a mentor and inspiration, taught him the importance of patience and staying calm. “Everything I’m experiencing is something he’s experienced at some point in his DJ career“, Summit shares, highlighting the invaluable guidance he received.
Looking Ahead
With Comfort in Chaos, John Summit has not only achieved a significant career milestone but also opened a new chapter in his artistic journey. He continues to push boundaries, exploring new sounds and emotional depths in his music. As he says, “Now is when my career is starting to actually get fun“.

The popular group and music label Keinemusik — made up of Adam Port, &ME, Rampa and Reznik — held a show at The Brooklyn Mirage in New York, this past weekend. Other than being an awesome production, one of the IDs previewed caught the attention of many in the EDM world. As a matter of fact, the group played their collaboration with none other than Drake.
Though there are no updates on when the single might be officially released, the collaboration isn’t entirely unexpected. Keinemusik’s seamless blend of rhythmic Techno and House music has propelled them to the forefront of the Electronic music scene. A collaboration with a wildly popular artist like Drake shows just how good these guys are doing. We’ll have to wait a little more to hear the finished product.

The dance music world is abuzz with excitement as two of its most iconic figures, Armin van Buuren and David Guetta, have finally unveiled their first-ever collaboration. The long-awaited single, titled ‘In the Dark,’ dropped today on Armada Music, just after the pair teased the track during their second-ever back-to-back set at Ushuaïa Ibiza during David Guetta’s “F*** ME I’M FAMOUS!” residency.
The track presents an uplifting anthem that merges each artist’s signature sound, underscored by empowering lyrics sung and co-written by two-time Grammy-winning songwriter Aldae. Created during a collaborative session in L.A., ‘In the Dark’ embodies the artists’ shared passion for music and spreads the inspiring message that one special person can be your lightning ‘In The Dark’.
The Birth of ‘In the Dark’
Armin van Buuren and David Guetta, two titans of the electronic dance music scene, have long been admired for their individual contributions to the genre. Van Buuren, known for his euphoric trance anthems, and Guetta, a master of mainstream dance-pop hits, joined forces to create a track that combines the best of both worlds. ‘In the Dark’ is the result of a creative collaboration that showcases the unique strengths of each artist.
During a session in Los Angeles, the two producers worked together to craft a track that would resonate with fans of both artists. David and I have been great friends for years, and we’ve always talked about working together. ‘In The Dark’ is a special blend of our styles, and I hope listeners can feel the admiration we have for each other’s work. This track also wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible Aldae, whose talents as a songwriter and vocalist are unrivaled.”

At last, the bender king blesses us with his masterpiece. From ‘Human’ , to ‘Where You Are’, we have followed and supported Illinois native John Summit. The golden child of this generation of EDM enthusiasts presents us his magnum opus. comfort in chaos is the debut album of the Experts Only label lead. With a long list of legendary collaborators including Kaskade, Sub Focus, Julia Church, Hayla and Of The Trees, to name a few. We will bask in the glory of this album, and honor the tracks that make us cry, dance, and cry again. With a little mix of Melodic House, Drum and Bass, Downtempo, and great vibes, we definitely pre-ordered the vinyls.
The Comfort in this Chaos
First thing first, let’s run back to the singles he has released in the last year that gave this album the expectation and excitement from fans all over the world. Singer and songwriter Hayla has become a major player in Daddy Summit’s team. Both ‘Shiver’ and ‘Where You Are’ channel her prowess with her ethereal vocals. Their lyrics are as lovingly and sentimental as the melodies. Unconditional love and the desperation to hold a moment in time is evident across the span of the album.
‘Resonate’ with Kaskade and Julia Church brought these feelings of being profoundly in love to life. This was also a heavily expected collab, as we all wanted Daddies Kaskade and Summit together, and after Summit’s legendary Arc Music Festival performance, we have waited for this track for almost a year. There is a lot of consistency in the album, with each track bringing a different melodic element to the table thar still encapsules similar sentiments. As a whole, the aesthetics of the album remain victoriuos.
Hidden Gems
Now we can get to the new tracks that pleasently surprised us. These tracks weren’t singles. However, they have a deeper connection to the idealities of the album that resonate heavily within the listener. ‘Stay With Me’ features organic bass and downtempo artist Of The Trees. The Maine native is a staple in the bass community with intricate sounds and focus on nature. His producing style is the perfect addition to comfort in chaos, with softer textures and inspiring vocals. ‘Undo’ continues the vulnerable side of Summit with a beautiful piano intro and vocals that remind us of the happy, good feeling of ‘What A Life’.
‘Comedown’ is a special track in LP with no features. It showcases the rawness of Summit in producing and the feeling after the party after the high is gone and everything slows down. Moreover, ‘Tears’ with Paige Cavell presents us with a very melancolic feeling, very similar to early 2010s progressive house we have all come to love. Lastly, we wanted to mention ‘Eat The Bass’. As the only sexy house track in the album, this track develops a different side of the album we don’t see in other tracks. Consequently, we could consider this song as part of the chaos.
Writer’s Pick
And alas, we still have to play favorites, cuz we can, and you can’t do anything about it. The pick for favorite track goes to… drum roll please… ‘Give Me Anything’ with Elderbrook. Where do we start? from Elderbrook’s sensational vocals, the inspiring beat, or the nasty Melodic Techno drop, this song merges the comfort and the chaos and brings out the perfect balance of both. If there is a track that fits right in the center of the album and pushes for a different sound that is totally different from all tracks but also is in perfect synergy with it, it’s this one.
We never doubted the ‘Deep End’ producer to provide us with a significant body of work. We have seen him transform from being an accountant to being one of the biggest DJs in the world. After massive number 1 hits, incredible sets in major stages all over the world, and great memes online, we give comfort in chaos our EDM Tunes seal of approval.
What’s next for Summit? We all hope there will be more music, more beautiful moments, and more memes. Bye bye!

Underground dance music producers Alex Kennon and Just Her have joined forces for a new single. ‘Long Way Down‘ is out now on Interstellar Recordings.
The song features both Kennon’s production skills and the singing of Just Her. It’s their second project together after working together on a remix.
Alex Kennon has released out songs on big labels like Rebellion, Crosstown Rebels, and Cajual.
Just Her, whose real name is Claire Spooner, brings a lot of different skills to the team. She makes house and dance music and plays a lot of different instruments. Balance Music and Selador have both played her music.
This song has a lot of meaning for Just Her. Her words:
The words deal with themes of being open and scared. Just Her said they’re open to different interpretations, but they hope that people who have been afraid of being hurt will be able to connect.
The process of working together was simple. The singer sent Kennon “Long Way Down” when he asked to use more of her work.
‘Long Way Down’ is a moody song with a low-slung groove, according to the music press. A warm bassline and rising sounds add drama and tension to the track.
Producers try to find a mix of feeling and energy on the dance floor. Kennon called it “an emotional journey with a lot of groove and power.”
The track’s power comes from the smooth vocals and spine-tingling breaks. The artists describe it as “an epic cut that will take any dance floor to the next level.”
“Long Way Down” is out now on Interstellar Recordings.

Armin van Buuren & David Guetta ft. Aldae – In The Dark
After teasing the single back in June during their second-ever back-to-back set at Ushuaïa Ibiza, dance music legends Armin van Buuren and David Guetta release their very first collaborative single ‘In The Dark’. The track beautifully merges each artist’s signature sound, with singer and songwriter Aldae delivering a magnificent performance on vocals.
John Summit – Comfort In Chaos (Album)
Today, John Summit releases his highly anticipated debut album, ‘Comfort in Chaos’. With this album, John Summit reveals the man behind the icon, injecting his usual body-first approach to dance music with genuine heart and emotion. John Summit strived to push himself musically and emotionally, tapping into a part of his identity that might not be immediately apparent to many fans. Fans old and new will find moments of extraordinary beauty (and hedonism) across the album, which nods to Summit’s core Chicago house roots while touching on UK-leaning genres he loves like garage, liquid and dancefloor drum & bass.
Hardwell – XTC
Having celebrated his record label’s 1000th release just last month, Hardwell is showing no signs of slowing down as he releases ‘XTC’ via his own Revealed Recordings. This one has been massively awaited ever since it was played for the first time at Ultra Music Festival in March and is now out for the world to enjoy.
Acer Vantes & LiteBug – Lite Ride
Drawing heavy influences from both tech house and electro house, Acer Vantes and LiteBug expertly craft a track that marries the groove and rhythm of tech house with the power and grit of electro house. The artists skillfully use a catchy vocal sample in each breakdown, ensuring the track stays in your mind, but it’s the drop that really makes ‘Lite Ride’ stand out. Rhythmic house drum samples maintain a captivating groove, while a thick bassline synth injects power and energy into the track.
Malóne – Talk 2 Em Mate
Continuing his hot streak of releases, Malóne drops his highly-anticipated house anthem ‘Talk 2 Em Mate’ on his label WHYNOTUS. This groovy track is primed for the dancefloor and early morning afterparty vibes and has already been making the dancefloor move across the globe, most notably during Malóne‘s debut in Hï Ibiza last week.
Alesso ft. Nate Smith – I Like It
Just a couple of weeks removed from his latest remix, Alesso is teaming up with American Country singer Nate Smith for their new single, ‘I Like It’. The single is truly the perfect feel-good party anthem just in time for the summer season. While taking elements of both artist’s signature sounds, they have successfully combined the two worlds of country and dance.

‘Alemagou‘ by Kimonos and Sounds Of Rituals is a happy, sun-soaked track.
The new song is now available on Rose Avenue. It is like a summer dream come true. It made news when it was shown at Coachella this year.
“Alemagou” takes people to the sunrise on Mykonos. The track builds up slowly, adding hypnotic beats on top of a sparkling piano.
Kuuda from Brighton put their voices on it, which gives it more depth and warmth. Their harmonies float on top of the instrumental, making the mood seem out of this world.
The make-up is clear and sharp. Each part shines through without making the others look too weak.
The track gets more and more emotional as it goes on. The drops happen at just the right time, making you feel something deep inside.
It’s clear that Kimonos is influenced by Deep House. They fit right in with Sounds Of Rituals’ Afro-house style.
The result is a piece that doesn’t fit into any form and feels old and new. It makes you feel good to dance.
With a length of five minutes, “Alemagou” never stays too long. You should take this trip over and over again.
Samson’s version shows things from a different angle. It moves more toward the deep house, making it a more club-friendly option.
The artists: Kimonos and Sounds Of Rituals
‘Alemagou‘ is another important song for Kimonos. The LA pair has been impressive since their 2019 start.
Their past work speaks for itself. Their name has grown thanks to releases on well-known labels and performances at big festivals.
Sounds Of Rituals brings his own experience to the project. His DJ sets with big names in the business have helped him get better at what he does.
This Rose Avenue release seems like the next step for both acts. The label is known for putting out good dance music.
“Alemagou” shows off their best qualities as a team. It shows how important it is to work together in electronic music.
The appeal of the track comes in how versatile it is. It works just as well on a beach at sunrise as it does in a dark, rocking club.
The song doesn’t have many words. That’s not the point, though. The singing is like an extra instrument in the big atmosphere.
‘Alemagou’ has a quality that keeps it fresh. It feels both new and old, connecting the past and the present.
It’s amazing how much attention to detail there is. Small sound flourishes become clear after several listens.
“Alemagou” is well put together but not groundbreaking. The production is well done and efficient, and it does what it sets out to do.
This is a must-listen music for people who like rhythmic techno and deep house. The track makes you want to move.
“Alemagou” is a good sign for future work together. It’s clear that Kimonos and Sounds Of Rituals get along.
‘Alemagou‘ stands out in a world full of computer music. It reminds me of how dance music can take you somewhere else.
This writer got caught up in it all. The song makes me think of blue seas and golden sands.
“Alemagou” is a mood, a feeling, or a time that was recorded in sound.
When summer comes around, you’ll hear this song a lot. It will be played a lot at both concerts and beach parties.
This is something special that Kimonos and Sounds Of Rituals have made. I love the mood and music in “Alemagou.”

Like a celestial event igniting the midnight sky, David Guetta and Armin van Buuren's first-ever collaboration, "In The Dark," bursts with brilliance.
Out now, the collaboration between Guetta and van Buuren is the result of 30 years of parallel success and mutual admiration. Their paths, though distinct, have always run alongside each other until "In The Dark" was first conceived during a rare joint DJ set at Ushuaïa Ibiza and later brought to life in an LA studio session.
"David and I have been great friends for years, and we've always talked about working together," van Buuren said. "'In The Dark' is a special blend of our styles, and I hope listeners can feel the admiration we have for each other’s work."
The anthemic single weaves together the respective styles of Guetta and van Buuren with effortless finesse, blending euphoric, melodically dense synths with memorable songwriting. Aldae's vocals add a layer of emotional depth, soaring above their intricate production like a guiding star that captivates with luminous clarity.
Out now via Armada Music, Guetta and van Buuren's "In The Dark" not only celebrates their individual legacies, but also exceeds the age-old expectation of what happens when titans of the craft come together. You can listen to the new track below and find it on streaming platforms here.

Hardwell's new single doesn't offer answers—just a floor-thumping invitation to lose yourself in the search.
Since resurrecting his storied career after the end of a four-year hiatus, Hardwell has strayed from his uplifting anthems of yesteryear in favor of a darker sound, which has turned him into an architect of spine-chilling, escapist bangers. His latest release, "XTC," is a dazzling expansion of that approach.
The track finds Hardwell descending into the underbelly of techno with an uncompromising bassline and kick drums that pierce like ice against bare skin. Meanwhile, the lyrics crackle with existential angst, a sardonic "life's a game" countered by the desperate plea for escape: "I need some fire." At a breakneck BPM of 140, its frantic rhythm mirrors that internal struggle, thrumming with a restless energy.
"XTC" arrives over a year after its debut at the 2023 Ultra Music Festival, where Hardwell dropped a typically riveting DJ set. The track is now officially out on the Dutch dance music legend's influential Revealed Recordings, which recently dropped its 1,000th release.
Check out our embracive interview with Hardwell about the label's 14-year evolution here.

Contrary to his outgoing and flamboyant personality, John Summit has always approached his music with the utmost vulnerability.
A massive touring schedule featuring headlining sets at Coachella, EDC Las Vegas, Tomorrowland and hundreds more sounds like a dream. But the house music superstar's life has been a balancing act of passions and priorities, weighing the highs of touring and partying with the lows of returning to an empty hotel room, staying healthy on the road and maintaining his emotional wellbeing.
Summit explores this difficult dichotomy in Comfort in Chaos, his long-awaited debut album. True to its name, it explores the battle of trying to control the uncontrollable, reflecting the Chicago-born beatsmith's own journey.
John Summit.Dana Trippe
A coming-of-age of sorts, Comfort in Chaos uncovers the veiled, more introspective side of Summit. The album solidifies him as musician who is not only able to command the dancefloor, but also elucidate the complexities of the human experience through electronic music.
The album blends powerful, vocal-forward tracks like "Tears" and "Give Me Anything" with contemplative interludes like "Comedown" and the titular "Comfort in Chaos," beautifully reflecting its undercurrent of acknowledgment and acceptance. This dynamic range is enhanced by collaborations that span from fellow Chicagoan Kaskade to EDM.com Class of 2024 star Of The Trees, further showcasing Summit's diverse influences.
Through sublime production and emotive songwriting, Summit conveys the realization that trying to control everything—whether it's the chaotic life on the road or personal turmoil—is not sustainable. Instead, the record suggests that true comfort comes from embracing the unknown and discovering how to thrive in the midst of life's uncertainties.
Comfort in Chaos is out now via Darkroom and Summit's own Experts Only label. Listen to the new album below and find it on streaming platforms here.

Tomorrowland Belgium is a week away and the biggest electronic music festival in the world has some surprises in store for its 20th anniversary. Festival attendees will be treated to some new yet familiar stages designed with Tomorrowland’s history in mind. These stages will feature previous Tomorrowland themes:
The Planaxis stage returns to the festival grounds of Tomorrowland and marks a significant return to the immersive and enchanting world that defined the 2018 edition of Tomorrowland. In Planaxis, The People of Tomorrow dive into a captivating underwater paradise, brimming with imaginative marine life and stunning sea-inspired artistry. This stage will take the place of Youphoria (the Mushroom stage). The entire area has been completely upgraded. The overhead tent structure is gone and the crowd space is much larger, now facing the lake in an auditorium arrangement. The new Planaxis Stage will be in the lake itself! Imagine the white portions of the stage above sticking out of the water, and that is basically what the stage will look like.
The Melodia stage, inspired by the Secret Kingdom of Melodia, invites the People of Tomorrow to relive the memories made during the Tomorrowland edition in 2015. Enter the Secret Kingdom and embrace the harmony created by the enduring sounds of Melodia.
The Elixir stage draws inspiration from the 2016 festival theme ‘The Elixir of Life’ and will become an iconic landmark on the festival grounds. This stage debuted last year as a replacement for Harbor House and also gave us our first hints as to the 2024 theme. This year, a new fragrance will debut, inspired by the concept of an elixir. This year a new bridge has been constructed so that this stage is more easily accessible from the daily festival entrance.
The House of Fortune Stage is expected to revisit the beloved Amicorum Spectaculum theme featuring steampunk carnival but in a much smaller size.
The Library Stage is not new, but it also continues this theme. The Library Stage is a callback to the ever-beloved Book of Wisdom theme that was celebrated during the last anniversary in 2019 with its own mainstage. It will be returning for 2024 with the area surrounding the stage re-graded, beautified, and even turned into a skatepark (which will be covered by the VIP deck).
At this point, we do not know if Reflection of Love will make an appearance as part of the festivities, but it is certainly belowed as well. Adscendo is arriving in Brazil for its second chapter in October. We can’t wait to see the new Life theme!

FVDED In The Park's cancellation in 2023 dealt a major blow to Metro Vancouver’s struggling music scene. One year later, Holland Park in the neighboring city of Surrey hosted a celebration of life, not a funeral, for the summer music festival.
FVDED went all-in on electronic dance music this year, phasing out its 50-50 hip-hop split to accommodate an elite lineup of DJs. It seems omitting world-renowned rappers like Future, Jack Harlow, G-Eazy and Young Thug freed space to build a brilliant EDM lineup. It was legitimately shocking to see a roster as deep as Swedish House Mafia, Kx5 (deadmau5 and Kaskade), Chase & Status, Chris Lake, Dom Dolla, Gryffin, John Summit, SLANDER and Zeds Dead on a two-day, three-stage poster.
Holland Park was pulsing with electrifying beats from 2-11pm on July 5th and 6th. Two of the weekend's show-stealers, however, were Deathpact and EDM.com Class of 2022 superstar ISOxo.
Deathpact—whichever member of the mysterious collective was present—would not be overshadowed by industry giants on the lineup. Diversity is one of the things I most look forward to at a major music festival and Deathpact whipped up the perfect formula. Their performance seamlessly sourced a wide breadth of sounds, including a highlight DMX remix, and encapsulated them within the experimental bass music that fans expect. There was never a dull moment during the hour-plus set, especially the surprise b2b with Dr. Fresch and Jon Casey.
Deathpact at FVDED In The Park 2024.Red Rose Films
I arrived at the Northwest Stage halfway through ISOxo’s set. I politely apologized my way through the crowd, fanning and misting sweaty festival-goers as a symbol of peace, to film a short video from a suitable sightline.
The energy permeating between ISOxo and the audience was palpable. The brief minutes I spent in the crowd’s core were wonderfully overwhelming. I weaved my way out of the tent and found my two friends patiently waiting to regroup with others. I took their backpacks, wore them like a suit of transparent armor adorned with trinkets and playthings, and sent them into the storm to experience it firsthand.
Speaking of the crowd, I'm happy to report that FVDED’s notoriously rough clientele was absent from this year's show. I’ve never attended prior iterations at Holland Park but was repeatedly warned about poor fan etiquette. It’s possible the omission of rap music welcomed a larger share of festival-goers who exercise the concert etiquette typically associated with ravers.
I experienced a few unsavory encounters but people were generally polite. I had many pleasant interactions, including with several first-time ravers who were very enthusiastic about the weekend.
Cell service was scarce once the festival was populated with approximately 24,000 people, according to Surrey Now-Leader, each day—except for Freedom mobile users who experienced a rare victory—but that’s not the fault of organizers. It was difficult reconnecting with friends who had peeled off from the group but that was remedied on Day 2 once we were acclimated and meeting points were established. Besides, there's plenty of fun to be had in solo adventures.
FVDED In The Park 2024.Red Rose Films
Everything else ran smoothly: lines were relatively short, food trucks were abundant and bathrooms and water stations were adequate. The forest area offered ample shade, hammocks and fairy lights for great photo ops. The addition of one or two water stations to help limit congestion at the most convenient locations would've been prudent and, if possible, additional shade near the mainstage.
FVDED in the Park was a smashing success. The festival was on the other side of death’s door last year, but kicked it off its hinges and roared to life in 2024. The event reportedly sold out its 48,000 capacity, an encouraging sign for Western Canada’s music scene as British Columbia can finally point to a set of festivals that can stand up to Eastern Canada’s juggernauts.
