Giant streaming platform Spotify has bucked the trend of tech companies mandating a return to the office, maintaining its flexible remote work policy. The company believes that treating employees like adults is essential for fostering a productive and innovative work environment.
Spotify’s decision comes in contrast to other tech giants like Amazon and Dell, which have implemented stricter return-to-office policies. Spotify’s Chief Human Resources Officer, Katarina Berg, argues that remote work has not negatively impacted productivity or efficiency. “You can’t spend a lot of time hiring grown-ups and then treat them like children“, she argues.
Spotify has offices in major cities worldwide and encourages employees to come together for in-person collaboration during designated “core weeks.” This approach allows the company to maintain a strong team culture while minimizing the environmental impact of commuting.
“It is harder and we all struggle to collaborate in a virtual environment”, Berg says. “But does that mean that we will start forcing people to come into the office as soon as there is a trend for it? No.“

Decoded Magazine · Exclusive Premiere – Josh Wink – 'Nerf Herder' With a title inspired by Princess Leia’s immortal clapback to Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back, and a creation that occurred during parent downtime at a Nerf tournament, ‘Nerf Herder’ is Josh Wink in a playful mood, perfectly timed for his annual Hallowink festivities alongside Will Clarke on the 31st of October. ‘Nerf Herder’ takes its sonic cues in part from 90s progressive house – driving and expansive, it slaps as hard as Leia’s words and follows on from recent singles ‘The Deepness’ and ‘Progression’ where Wink explores the more emotional/ melodic aspects of his creative palette. Big tune from one of the greatest to do it!
Josh Wink  says:
‘’Nerf Herder’ is a reference in the Star Wars movie The Empire Strikes Back where Leia insults Han by calling him a “stuck-up, half-witted, scruffy-looking nerf herder”. But that wasn’t the reason I named this track ‘Nerf Herder’. I was waiting for my son at a Nerf event in Philadelphia, while he and other participants were in the laser tag-like arena, I was composing music on my laptop in an empty room at the community center where it took place. So instead of the track name being the date of when I made it, or something else, this one came to mind and stuck (with a slight nod to Star Wars, Han and Leia too).
Two years ago was a period of time musically, where I delved into emotional and melodic techno/house compositions (‘Iz’, ‘The Deepness’ and ‘Progression’) that are slightly influenced by the 90’s progressive sound, yet still have the signature Josh Wink quality to the production. I am excited to slow things down, expressing the deeper, and more emotive side of me, rather than the techno sound most people know me for.”.
An artist and DJ who barely needs introduction, Josh Wink has been gloriously disrupting electronic dance music with a DIY and post-punk energy since the 90s. Amongst a huge arsenal of profound releases – his seminal breakout hit ‘Higher State of Consciousness’, highlighted as one of Rolling Stone’s ‘Greatest Dance Songs Of All Time’ in 2022. In 1995 the single was unleashed on the world and was immediately embraced by everyone from Gilles Peterson to Carl Cox. The definitive track continues to be rediscovered and adored by every new wave of DJ, raver and electronic enthusiast since its original release 29 years ago.
His Ovum imprint is a continuation of this boundary-pushing attitude, with more than 400 releases, over 130 associated artists and countless chart-topping tracks in its 30 years. Born in Josh’s native Philly in 1994, Ovum is as DIY and independently-minded now as it ever was, with label and founder having plenty up their sleeve to surprise and delight in 2024 and well and beyond.

Legendary artists and emerging talents in the electronic music world abound on Time Warp‘s “Two Days | Two Celebrations” edition on October 25–26, 2024, when it returns to Mannheim.
Given such a wide range of artists, it may not be easy to choose the must-see events. But from our experience, we are here to guide you with our list of the five musicians you really must not miss at this year’s Time Warp festival.
&Me and Rampa
Starting our list is the much-awaited face-off between two major Keinemusik collective members, &ME and Rampa. This back-to-back set looks to be a master class in deep, melodic house, techno, and, of course, a bit of afro-house.
The ability of &ME to create expressive, groove-driven songs complements Rampa’s strong rhythms and percussion skills.
Combining organic components with electronic beats in a way that has come to define the Keinemusik sound, their cooperative energy is likely to provide a magnetic environment on the dancefloor.

Charlotte de Witte b2b Enrico Sangiuliano
Among the highlights of the festival is Charlotte de Witte and Enrico Sangiuliano’s back-to-back set. Both artists are well-known for their mesmerizing techno and combined intensity will produce an amazing experience.
De Witte’s evocative build-ups combined with Sangiuliano’s thundering rhythms will probably provide an exciting and exactly balanced performance.

Miss Monique
Miss Monique from Ukraine has become among the most interesting names in progressive and melodic techno very fast. Her sets are renowned for their trip-like feel. She fuses mesmerizing rhythms and uplifting melodies with pounding basslines.
Together with her flawless track selection, Miss Monique’s ability to craft a narrative via her music promises to transport Time Warp participants on an enchanted musical trip.
Her performance, as a relative newbie to the Time Warp stage, is not to be missed since it presents an original viewpoint on the music of the festival.

Reinier Zonneveld (live)
In the techno scene, Reinier Zonneveld‘s live performances have become fable. It’s quite amazing how quickly he could produce throbbing, high-energy techno utilizing a range of hardware synthesizers and drum machines.
Offering festival-goers an opportunity to see the creative process in real-time, Zonneveld’s show on Saturday promises to be a masterclass in live electronic music production.

Indira Paganotto
Rising sensation Indira Paganotto is one of the fresh waves of techno musicians sweeping over the scene.
At big events and venues all around, her hard-hitting, trance-influenced techno has been turning heads.
Paganotto’s set at Time Warp is probably a high-octane affair that highlights why she’s regarded as one of the most intriguing fresh electronic music stars.

In the midst of the jungle revival, one name that’s become impossible to ignore is Bristol-based DJ/producer Cheetah. Despite being relatively new to the scene, his relentless drive to create distinctive, high-energy, booty-shaking bangers never disappoints—whether it’s old-skool jungle, groundbreaking bass music, or a seamless blend of both. Self-released tracks like “X-rated” and “Freaks” are tearing up dancefloors across the UK and beyond. Describing himself as a “serial collaborator,” Cheetah isn’t exaggerating; he’s worked with heavyweights like Nia Archives, Tim Reaper, and Samurai Breaks, just to name a few.
After a hectic summer with debut appearances at major festivals like Glastonbury, Outlook Croatia, and Boomtown, Cheetah has definitely been keeping busy. This year, he’s also showcased the latest in UK sounds across Europe, playing in France, Spain, Poland, The Netherlands, Germany, and Croatia—often joined by the Singularity UK crew. Thankfully, he took some time to catch up with us at UKF, sharing his summer highlights and teasing exciting projects for the upcoming club season, including an EP with Samurai Breaks on Super Sonic Booty Bangers (SSBB)—just in time to lift our post-summer blues.
Lets kick off with this summer, You’ve been incredibly busy playing at many festivals. What were some of the highlights?
It’s been sick, it was my first time playing at festivals! Glastonbury was a standout experience. I ended up spending most of my weekend at NYC Downlow, an infamous queer club in the heart of the festival, listening to a lot of hard-house & disco.
Oh, sick! Did it end up impacting your set at all?
Yeah actually, the club definitely left an impact on my set. I felt like I was marinating in the club’s energy. I had a bunch of fun, sexy, queer-influenced tracks on my USB, which were different from my usual ones. Since it was a mostly jungle takeover and everyone else had been playing jungle, I decided to drop some sexy, fruity, 160-shit. Everyone loved it and I think they could see I was loving it too, it just felt right.
Sexy, Fruity, 160, I love that! You’ve been with the SSBB and Singularity UK crews this summer. What was that experience like?
In general, the best opportunities on paper can become quite stressful and anxiety-inducing. For example, going to Glastonbury for the first time. If I hadn’t been able to go with the Singularity UK crew and do a takeover with them, it would have been a bit lonely and stressful. But I’ve known them for a few years now and we’ve become quite a close-knit family, so it made the experience much more enjoyable.
I actually ended up lost one day, but luckily I bumped into Samurai Breaks and Jess (who’s the chief booty-bouncer at Super Sonic Booty Bangers). We went to see Skream & Benga and then ended up spending the whole day together, which was really nice. Essentially, that’s the human side of the labels. Knowing that the people behind the music are genuine is important to me.
You’ve got an EP out in collaboration with Samurai Breaks on SSBB… There are some absolute bangers on there!
After finishing my Freaks EP, I wanted to try something new. I was inspired by vogue/ballroom music and 160 tracks, and the concept for the EP emerged from that. I reached out to Samurai Breaks, and we decided to collaborate on the EP back in March. From then I started making a ton of tunes -about 12 in total. Many didn’t make the cut…
It was initially meant to be a four-track EP, then it expanded to five tracks, and then six. Finally, three days before the pre-masters were due I panicked as I realised I really wanted a tekky 170 jungle tune for the project. I spent the next three days on my laptop, trying to finish it on time. This ended up being the seventh track ‘Go Harder’, a track with a style of production I’ve never really attempted before. I’m quite proud of it.
Wow…
It was tricky because it was a new style for me – it was a very clinical production. It’s not old skool; it’s not drum and bass either. It’s fruity, fun, and a lot of experimentation for me. I wanted the EP to be a vibrant project with something for everyone.
The artwork is amazing, the promotion is great, and Sam’s a fantastic collaborator. Anyone who knows him will tell you he’s incredibly driven, refreshingly blunt, and super focused. He’s a legend and has been an amazing mentor for me recently.
The Freaks EP, which dropped in June, was also packed with bangers—definitely more jungle, ragga, and 160. How was it releasing this EP independently?
The whole idea behind the Freaks EP was to take complete creative control over the production, promotion and artwork. I’d become a bit complacent, letting labels handle that for me. While labels are a huge part of the culture, I wanted to try doing it all myself this time. Musically, the goal was to create fun, light-hearted tracks without taking things too seriously.
There’s a lot of dancehall and hip-hop infused…
I listen to a lot of dancehall. I made ‘X-Rated’ during my first year of uni when I was really getting into it. I then mixed in an Erika Badu vocal, another artist who I was into at the time. For ‘Freaks,’ I wanted to maintain that playful, light-hearted vibe. ‘Freaks’ by Vicious was the main
sample. It’s another dancehall tune that I’ve loved for quite a while, specifically the cheeky, androgynous vocals.
https://soundcloud.com/cheetahhhh/sets/freaks-ep?si=2c33a27a7a7b4297855d66cd46a1ce1f& utm_source=clipboard&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=social_sharing
How did your journey into producing actually start?
I get asked a lot about this since I’m relatively young. My mum bought me the most basic version of FL Studio when I was 14. I’m super grateful for that – seven years on I use the same version. I learnt how to use it from hundreds of hours of YouTube tutorials. I’m pretty sure I learnt from watching Martin Garrix tutorials.
In 2017 I would make Brockhampton-type beats. I used to record vocals for the tracks with my mates and release them on my Soundcloud. The lyrics were all really stupid and were all a big joke between me and my mates. We all had a lot of fun. As I got older we started making garage, grime and some more experimental electronic music inspired by floating points etc. I’ve always had a pretty diverse music taste.
When did you get into jungle then?
In 2019 I started going to squat raves and was suddenly catapulted into dance music and rave culture. The music was mostly jump-up D&B which I somewhat enjoyed but never really got attached to. It was around this time that I met the Singularity UK crew. They really educated me on dance music. Jungle spoke to me way more than jump-up D&B did as I’ve always listened to hip-hop & R&B, and was already used to producing with breakbeats and soul samples from when I made beats. Whenever I did attempt to make D&B it always ended up sounding like jungle anyway as I was using my boombap drum packs. Eventually, after releasing some of my early jungle experiments like ‘Of Course’ on Da Demolition Squad, I was asked to perform as a DJ. I had to say no a couple of times at the start as I hadn’t yet learnt how to mix.
Honestly, most of my early exposure to jungle then came from new school labels like Subcode Records, Globex Corp and Future Retro instead of stuff from the ’90s. I was deeply inspired by the new generation of jungle producers like Tim Reaper, Sully, Lavery, and Samurai Breaks. My taste was definitely shaped by new-school sounds, which is likely why my jungle has a different feel.
Yeah, it’s interesting you say that.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve for sure produced old-school jungle tracks that echo the 94/95 era. I got deeply involved with the scene, connecting with some serious old-school heads, and their effort to preserve the culture is incredible. On top of that, the current jungle and hardcore scene is full of really amazing people and it’s such a lovely community. It was really a safe haven from hyper-masculine drum and bass raves.
After a while though, trying to perfectly replicate a specific sound from the past in production and in sets drove me a bit crazy. It’s a personal thing, some people love it but it wasn’t for me. My jungle really doesn’t sound very old skool anyway. I really look forward to creating all sorts of jungle hybrids in the future. I want to return to the variety of tunes I would make before I started DJing loads of jungle-only raves.
Okay, let’s get real: which city is better, London or Bristol?
That’s a tough one. I often find that when I’m talking to someone from another country who hasn’t been to either city, I recommend Bristol over London. I’ve lived in Bristol for a while now, and I feel that no other city really matches the jungle scene. Sound system culture doesn’t seem as strong in London. Bristol offers a great mix of student energy and long-time locals, creating a perfect balance. While London still hosts amazing raves and Singularity UK continues doing great work there, Bristol’s unmatched community and the endless list of raves wins out for me.
You’ve worked with some amazing artists like Tim Reaper, Dj Sofa and Stekker, unreleased projects with Nia Archives. How did these collaborations come about?
With Nia, she’d been releasing her music a bit before me. I followed her on Instagram and noticed she posted a story featuring one of my tunes and had downloaded my SubCode EP from a couple of years ago.
Yeah! I remember her playing that on BBC Radio 6, the track “Spin Sugar”!
It was cool, it was my first proper EP release so I was really surprised she heard it. We ended up getting in contact and I started sending her tunes. She continued to support me and eventually, we linked up in her studio in London. We made some edits for her tour and ended up getting on well, that’s how collaborations work for me -if we don’t get on, it can get a bit awkward and I can find it hard to be creative. I’ve got collab projects with Nia, Janaway, Samurai Breaks & Guido YZ all in the works…
What have been the key takeaways from those collaborative experiences?
When I first moved to Bristol I linked up to produce with Janaway – the only other guy my age who released jungle. Turns out we had the same vision and started to really get on as mates. Since then we’ve collaborated loads and performed internationally together he feels like a brother now. Whenever we link up it just feels like hanging out, sometimes we link up just to chat and end up making a banging tune. Occasionally we’ve linked up to produce but then just end up chatting. It’s all natural, there’s no pressure and for me, that’s the key. I have similar attitudes with anyone who I collaborate with a lot.
Another lesson I learnt was that not all tracks will have a 50/50 split in work – and that’s alright. It’s okay if the contributions aren’t equally divided. What matters is the collaborative environment in which the tunes are made. You might not physically touch any buttons at all, but if your ideas and energy helped shape the creation, you’ve still played a crucial role. A collaboration is about the collective creativity and energy you bring to the project.
Speaking of future projects, what else can fans expect?
I’ve got my ‘SSBB’ EP launch at Clock Factory on September 28—proper gassed for that. I like to keep things spontaneous, so after this EP it’s hard to predict exactly what’s next.
Any last thoughts you want to share?
I want to say a huge thank you to anyone who’s listened to my tracks or come to see me DJ. It’s everything to me. Check out my Super Sonic Booty Bangers EP and keep your eyes peeled for any future projects. Hopefully, there’s something for everyone, keep an open mind.

What an incredible week it has been for the This Never Happened Superstars, Sultan + Shepard! They started off with a bang, celebrating their 250th episode of Dialekt Radio by exclusively featuring never-before-heard tracks. As if that wasn’t enough, they also dropped two brand new singles, ‘Close Your Eyes’ and ‘Behind Her Eyes’. Both of which will be part of their highly anticipated Circle in Time: The Trilogy EP. Don’t miss out on the chance to experience the depth and emotion of these phenomenal new additions to their already remarkable discography.
‘Close Your Eyes’
Ned and Osama’s music has always had a powerful emotional impact. Their latest tracks, will be a part of their upcoming project Circle in Time: The Trilogy EP. The song ‘Close Your Eyes’ is a collaboration with Richard Walters, who adds a unique emotional depth and vocal warmth to the track, enriching its introspective and serene qualities. Walters’ lyrical style often delves into themes of longing, self-reflection, and human connection, all of which are palpable in ‘Close Your Eyes’. While working on their first album Something, Everything, S+S created songs with Walters that formed the spiritual core of the album. As they wrapped up Something, Everything, and embarked on Forever, Now, they conceived ‘Close Your Eyes’, but the perfect ending eluded them until now. As they began crafting Circle in Time, the stars aligned for ‘Close Your Eyes’.
‘Behind Her Eyes’
‘Behind Her Eyes’, is a truly special track for the S+S boys. Written during a challenging time when Ossama’s mom was battling cancer, the song encapsulates the deep emotional journey of sadness and hope. The infectious groove of the track is driven by a tight bassline and steady percussion, providing a rock-solid foundation. The intricate layering of melodies, fueled by arpeggios, creates a captivating and propulsive rhythm. There’s a dynamic interplay between different synths, crafting a rich and textured soundscape that draws listeners in. The subtle yet impactful drops use modulation and reverb to add a sense of spatial depth to the track. As always, the boys deliver an exceptional piece of music that resonates on a profound level.
Mark your calendars for November 15th because that’s when The Circle in Time: The Trilogy will be released! And if you haven’t heard they will continue you their brilliant live tour this winter. I had the pleasure of catching them earlier this year, and believe me, this is a show you absolutely cannot miss. Check out their tour dates here and make sure to grab The Circle in Time: The Trilogy box set to experience their epic journey. Stay tuned to EDMTunes for all your latest music updates.

For fans of boundary-pushing House music, Avi Sic’s latest release ‘Get Up & Listen’ is one for the books. Known for her versatile production style and energetic live performances, she has crafted a track that merges listener-focused subtleties with club-driven power. Released via Tiger Records, ‘Get Up & Listen’ is already gaining traction on the Beatport Bass House chart, and displays her ability to evolve her sound while staying true to her artistic vision.
We caught up with Avi Sic to discuss the creative process behind the track, her approach to production, and how it fits into her larger discography. Here’s what she had to say.
Hi Avi, thanks for joining us and congrats on the release of “Get Up & Listen”.
Thank you! It’s a unique one for sure, I’m excited that it’s out.
Can you tell us, what was the initial inspiration for the track, and how did it evolve during the production process?
I tried to create outside the box with this one. The idea wasn’t to make a smash club record but something more listener-focused. The evolution took some time, I wasn’t even sure it was actually an idea worthy of further development at first. I overthink things a lot.
Can you take us through your workflow for this track? Did you begin with a melody, the beat, or something else?
I was messing around in the studio and wrote the bassline and drum pattern initially. The more I listened to it, I realized I had something cool going on within the simplicity. The beat was catchy and bouncy, so I put more time into it. I really wanted the kick and bass to be the focus of the track and not overwhelm that with too many ideas or sounds.
The bassline and synth work in “Get Up & Listen” are really punchy; what techniques did you use to get those sounds, and what tools were key in shaping them?
As the focus of the track, this is definitely where I put the most time in. Choosing the right bassline synth was key. I went through many variations of the sound. Dialing in the sidechain perfectly was the key to the punch here. There is some subtle filtering and stereo effects of the sound throughout the track to create movement. For the kick, it has three layers: a low, mid, and high. This is how I got the most out of a single sound.
When producing this track, did you have a particular crowd or festival in mind? How did that influence your choices?
I always ask myself questions like “where does this fit into a set of mine?” and “who is the target audience of this track?” My answers on this one were a bit different than my other releases, but it was for this exact reason that I wanted to continue with it. It’s good to have variety in any arsenal. This one was very Chris Lake-inspired. Strange sounds, driving basslines. Something similar to the Black Book style but also different in many ways.
You’ve played some incredible live shows so far this year; did you road-test “Get Up & Listen” before its release? If so, how did the crowd react and did you make any changes based on that feedback?
Of course! Live testing my ideas is part of my process for sure. The surprise element of this track begins in the final build and into the last drop. At first, I had this part as the second drop. But after playing it live a few times, I tried switching the arrangement. This worked out much better, as the crowd was almost waiting for something new to happen rather than just giving it to them straight away. The reaction was more fulfilling to everyone—so I kept that change in the final version.
Can you share a bit about the process of selecting and processing the vocals? Were they a key element from the start?
The vocals were the last element I added. I didn’t want them to be the focus or be too overwhelming in general. Almost more of a background idea just to keep the momentum going. I found this speech and thought it had lots of potential. I chopped it up and only kept a few key ideas. It’s very sermon-like, asking existential questions, and becoming commanding at its peak. It really fit the vibe of the track and brought all the elements together.
How do you balance your instinct for innovation with keeping your sound accessible to the fans who follow your releases? Was this something you had to consider while creating this track?
(You may want to include her response to this if provided)
You’ve said in previous interviews that you produce a wide range of styles. How does “Get Up & Listen” fit into the larger arc of your discography and sound evolution?
It’s dark and energetic, which is something it does have in common with other releases of mine. But this one is more of a journey, so that sets it apart. It has fewer in-your-face type elements but, in its nuances, has a lot of complexity. I like to push a genre less approach, almost a combination of House music styles. I call it ‘Hybrid House,’ which is achieved by using elements of all styles. I really hate to feel boxed into anything. That’s where creativity can stall. It certainly shows my evolution in terms of being able to produce more simplified arrangements. Less is often more.
Tiger Records has been a great home for “Get Up & Listen”. How has working with the label influenced your release strategy or creative direction?
Yes, it’s a great label and I’m happy I found a home for this one with them. I really like their releases in general. Across the board, they are strong and have similar qualities. That’s something important to me when deciding on a label. We already hit #30 on the Beatport Bass House chart and had a feature in the new release as well. Hopefully, the momentum will keep going!
What are some of the key challenges you faced while producing this song? Were there any moments where you had to step back and rethink the track?
Many times. But this is a normal process for me. I put a lot of thought and time into every one of my releases. It is art, after all. Never completely satisfied but always proud. The tough part is trying to please everyone. This is not possible, so really the key is just to be happy with the final product yourself. And that’s when I know a song is ready. The arrangement was my main challenge with this one but in the end, I felt it was working well and for that reason, it was indeed finished. That is also my favorite part of this particular single. A simple yet effective arc to the track. Hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed making it!
Avi Sic continues to push the boundaries of her sound while staying grounded in the unique qualities that have garnered her a strong following. ‘Get Up & Listen’ exemplifies her ability to experiment with structure and sound while maintaining her signature energy. With a powerful combination of bass-driven grooves and unexpected twists, it’s a track that adds another layer of versatility to her already impressive catalogue; be sure to check it out and experience the journey yourself below and here.

With their most recent single, “All I Wanted,” Hunter/Game, the Italian team comprising Martino Bertola and Emmanuele Nicosia, has once more shown their brilliance. This song provides a seductive preview of what seems to be a revolutionary release as the third and last teaser for their forthcoming album ‘VISION‘.
The six-minute track “All I Wanted” showcases Hunter/Game’s ability to combine analog instrumentation with state-of-the-art production methods. Hi-hats and sharp synths lead the way as the song begins, creating a complicated and danceable rhythmic framework right away. Layering and sound design become masterful as the music develops.
What makes this song stand out is the way the twisted textures and alien samples are seamlessly blended. These components combine to produce a sci-fi environment that is immersive and just a little bit unnerving, all in the best possible ways. Longing male vocals give a more techno-oriented production with an emotional depth that is frequently lacking.
Clearly, ‘All I Wanted’ is based on its set of mind-bending synth lines. From subdued, background parts to full-bodied lead instruments, the synths change across the song. We have been interested all through the six-minute performance by this lively arrangement.
Technically, the sound design on the exhibit is first-class. The rich, analog warmth of the synths points to the utilization of high-end hardware. But their modulation’s accuracy and control point to the pair’s mastery of contemporary production technologies.
Our take on All I Wanted
Listening to “All I Wanted,” we find Hunter/Game’s ability to produce intelligent yet visceral music to be rather remarkable. Although the complex composition of the track rewards close, analytical listening, its throbbing rhythms and expressive melodies also speak directly to the body and heart.
‘All I Wanted’ exudes a tangible buzz. With ‘VISION,’ the pair seems to be on the verge of something quite unique. Having closely watched their history, it excites us to see how their sound has changed and what fresh ground they will investigate on the complete album.
The release of ‘All I Wanted’ also comes just one week ahead of the launch of Hunter/Game’s new AV concept show ‘VISION’. It will debut at EartH in London’s East End on Friday, October 11, in partnership with Fabric.
