HARD Summer 2024, held at the Hollywood Park Complex in SoFi Stadium, attracted thousands of electronic music fans with performances from top acts like Disclosure, Major Lazer, and Sofi Tukker. However, the event also sparked a wave of noise complaints from residents, including those as far as El Segundo, prompting swift action from Inglewood city officials.
Mayor James T. Butts Jr. responded quickly to the complaints, noting that the noise issues began during soundchecks on August 2. Unlike previous concerts at the venue, this event caused significant disturbances due to specific bass frequencies. After investigating, city officials identified these frequencies as the primary cause of the excessive noise and vibrations that affected the community.
As a result, Mayor Butts decided to ban future events from setting up stages in the American Airlines Plaza, which was the main source of the problem. He stressed the need for stricter sound management and engineering to avoid similar issues in the future.
To address the situation during the festival, the city implemented several adjustments, including deploying additional sound engineers to manage noise levels in real time. These efforts led to a significant reduction in complaints by the second day of the event. Moving forward, Inglewood plans to enforce stricter monitoring and sound-level controls to protect the surrounding community during future events.

Mayer EMI’s goal is to use the possibilities of modern technology to create tools for musicians and encourage  interaction with them bringing out their full creativity. Everyone who uses their products will appreciate the technology  and attention to details. Leveraging their industrial automation experience, Mayer EMI ensures highest quality  standards across hardware and software. Resulting in outstanding products which are manufactured in collaboration  with their partners across Europe and assembled in Austria.
The Vibes marks an important milestone in product development and gives an insight into the vision of Mayer EMI: All  Integrated Synthesizers (AIS). The drastic shift of the pro audio industry in the last years requires rethinking of existing  setups and workflows. Usually, synthesizers can only be integrated into existing setups with a set of limited options.  Mayer EMI strongly believes that this should be the other way around: the synthesizer as the central hub for music  production. Rather than being integrated, every Mayer synthesizer integrates the peripherals around him. From  controllers to other audio devices and more. Whether at stage, in the studio or at home.

Apple’s high-end version of the iPhone – the iPhone 17 Air is in the works. Now, this version has sparked confusing thoughts as it is marketed as a device for those that prefer looks over performance. We know that the device sits between the standard and Pro models. Additionally, rumors say it might be priced higher than both variants. Said to be thinner, the iPhone 17 Air will “not boast amazing specifications” as its predecessors. But perhaps those wishing for an aesthetically pleasing handheld should keep an eye on this model though.
What’s more, the iPhone 16 lineup is shaping up to be a great successor to the iPhone 15 lineup. All thanks to its new Capture Button and camera hardware improvements. However, the company also has a lot more in store for users on the software front as well. That includes Apple Intelligence and the new chips enabling AI utilities.
What We Know About the 17 Lineup
All four 17 models come with an LTPO display so ProMotion can make its way to the standard version of the iPhone. They’ll also boast 120Hz refresh rate, 12GB of RAM and a triple-lens camera setup. Upgraded sensors and internals like the A19 Pro provide enhanced computational and graphical performance.
iPhone 17: 6.27-inch LTPO display with a $799 price iPhone 17 Pro: 6.27-inch LTPO display with a $1,099 price iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.86-inch LTPO display  with a $1,199 price iPhone 17 “Slim”: 6.65-inch LTPO display with a $1,299 price For the iPhone 17 Air, the model will forgo a Plus version, in order to debut this “slim” version. Equipped with an A19 Pro chip, it also features a single rear camera design with aluminum-titanium hybrid chassis and 8BG of RAM, and 5G modem from Apple. Unfortunately, rumors make this version comparable to the specifications of the iPhone SE 4. Again, this version is not meant to replace the 17 Plus version but merely offers a standalone device with the selling point of design. No further details on this model have been released so we shall have to wait.
If the design is successful, we may see it alongside the 17 model lineup. What are your thoughts on this audacious attempt?

Simon Dunmore, the influential founder of Defected Records, has opened up about the cookie-cutter nature of today's electronic music festival lineups.
Many would argue that dance music's cutting edge has gone dull, blunted by years of recycled festival rosters. Dunmore, who in July 2022 sold his label to its former CEO Wez Saunders, took to Threads to discuss this phenomenon and the urgency for new artists to "challenge the monopoly of the established hierarchy."
"Festival line ups have been stagnating 4 yrs, w the same 50 acts on rinse & repeat," Dunmore wrote. "New talent needs 2 break through 2 challenge the monopoly of the established hierarchy?"
He then lauded Keinemusik and ANOTR, a pair of red-hot house music acts, as trailblazers uprooting the trend.

Whether or not the festival scene is in need of a shake-up is subjective, but the conversation has only continued to swell in recent years. Booking the same artists ad nauseam ensures a reliable draw and satisfies longtime fans who look forward to seeing their favorites, but the approach often leads to a homogenized experience that strips away the essence of what made electronic music festivals special in the first place: discovery and innovation.
This shortsighted approach has sparked debate within the dance music industry concerning its vitality—and the ripple effects are far-reaching. Promising artists are starved of crucial exposure while dyed-in-the-wool headliners grow complacent, perpetuating a vicious cycle and stifling progress within the genre.
While relying on proven headliners may seem financially safe in the short-term, questions arise about long-term sustainability and the cultivation of future headline-caliber acts. By failing to elevate new talent and niche subgenres, it's fair to wonder if festival organizers are alienating the next generation of ravers and producers—and inadvertently laying the groundwork for their own irrelevance.
The economic implications of this booking trend are, of course, complex. As lineups continue to evolve, finding a balance between established crowd-pleasers and fresh talent remains a key challenge for festival organizers.
Defected Records, EDM.com's best label of 2022, is revered for its mastery of that balancing act. The brand organizes its own festivals in Malta, Croatia and Ibiza, among others, and recently announced an unprecedented New Year's celebration spanning all six inhabited continents.
Reflecting on his sale of the business this week, Dunmore praised Saunders for continuing to spotlight promising artists and break new ground.
"Defected 2.0 is now very much Wez's vision," Dunmore said in an Instagram post. "For any business to succeed the direction has to be consistent and come from the top down and, as with me, it has has taken a moment for him to adjust. It is great to hear that Defected is marauding in new waters, discovering new musical treasures."

His Instagram handle reads ‘sounds like Saka’, and even though he may not have realised it yet, Saka is well and truly on his way to creating a sonic universe that’s true to his artistic vision. The distinctive characteristic of this vision is Saka’s ability to combine the myriad of influences that he learned his craft with, and infusing them into the powerful and thought-provoking soundscapes that he’s been assembling for half a decade.
The result is an eclectic sound palette that spans across the functional, and experimental strands of dubstep, drum & bass, and UK Garage to name a few. These sounds have been consistently presented in the most futuristic and experiential manner ever since his debut in 2019.
Saka hails from Hong Kong, a culturally diverse region that is home to both the most cutting-edge modern ideas, and one of the most prominent cultural hubs of Asia. With nearly every release Saka puts out, you’re guaranteed to be struck by the rich and captivating oriental undertones that shine through his creations.
Over the years, Saka has released his futuristic music on labels like Deadbeats, Inspected Records, and Gud Vibrations, but we’d like to draw your attention to his most recent release on Memory Palace. This release perfectly encapsulates his creative genius and his unwavering vision of musical storytelling by impeccably combining diverse cultural influences.
Currently, in the middle of his tour in the United States, we caught up with Saka while he was in the middle of sorting some tunes for his upcoming shows. Naturally, the chat began with a deep dive into his ‘Monomyth’ EP. Typically, an album is where you establish a connection with the artist and their musical journey, but in this case, Saka delivers a masterclass of soaking bass vibrations, stark atmospheres and intricate drum work, with an EP.
“The EP was kind of a return to my original writing style. It dates back to my very first EP, where I carefully planned out the sonic journey of the release. I had a clear vision of the chronological order in which I wanted things to progress and how I wanted them to sound.”
Remember the in-depth exploration of different emotional experiences that we mentioned earlier? Here’s the man himself discussing them, “For this EP, the storyboard/timeline existed before the songs were actually written. I knew what I wanted to make for each one except for the opening track ‘Soul Ties.’ This one was pure emotion and a tune that just took its own course. But a lot of the EP is in the Joseph Campbell and Monomyth style of writing and concept.
I wanted to make it a bit full circle and have a dream like narrative to the release. It starts with death and rebirth with ‘Soul Ties’. Then it moves on to the ‘Ghoul’, where I return to my 140 sound. From a mythological viewpoint, there are these two demons, or obstacles – Shenlong & Ifrit. You defeat them, you overcome them, whereupon ‘Ichiban’ is our hero’s revelry in their victory. You move on and then ‘Phantasm’ is more like hero’s realization that the whole journey has been in the hero’s head – just a dream.”
What the “Monomyth” EP does exceptionally well is take you from one state of mind to a completely different one at the conclusion. From the gentle and comforting opening of “Soul Ties” to the gratifying final track, “Phantasm,” the EP takes its protagonist on a journey that is both fascinating and terrifying; and Saka details how he managed to construct it in his head and then translate it into the release.
“As a person of mixed heritage as well as being from a part of the world where geopolitical tensions can be quite tumultuous; ‘Shenlong’, the god of storms, was written about said conflict. ‘Ifrit’ on the other hand, denotes the conflict in the Middle East. Both in my eyes have to do with modern-day neo-imperialism to varying degrees. The affairs of the world constantly weigh on my mind, and I can’t help but think about it considering where I come from. Fortunately, I have music as an outlet – and while abstract, I’m enthused to be able to synthesize all these emotions and thoughts into something artful.”
In addition to Saka passionately expressing his emotions through the release, the ‘Monomyth’ EP also delves into ancient mythologies and cultures, a theme that Saka has consistently explored since his debut. It’s his appreciation for different cultures blended with contemporary bass music that helps you form a deeper connection with his form of art.
We asked if there was a defining moment that led him to this path,  “I think the moment was when I saw CloZee play live. I wouldn’t say we make the same kind of music, but that was first time where I saw Asian sound ballads used in an electronic format. If someone from a different culture can infuse Chinese soundscapes, then me bring a form of that to the world, I think it only made sense that I embraced my culture and dispensed it in the way I know best. I have always found Shinto mythology super interesting and ancient Chinese mythology as well, and I draw a lot of my inspirations for track names and samples as well.”
Then it was time to take Saka on a little trip down memory lane and talk about when his musical excursions began. Before making his debut in 2019, there was an immersive experience Saka went on where he explored electronic music of many forms before landing on his formative style that speaks multiple sonic languages.
“Specifically, with the kind of music I make, it took me a little longer. But ever since I was a teenager, I was going to underground raves in Hong Kong where they would play a lot of jungle, drum & bass, breaks and everything around it. Then in my college years, I started going to more house music events which eventually led me to Dirtybird Records shows. That was before I dug deep into acts like Ivy Lab, Eprom, Sam Gellaitry, Shades, and G Jones.
They’re all different in terms of styles, but they introduced me to a totally different world of music that I hadn’t really paid attention to. SoundCloud helped a bit of course because I started listening to acts even though they weren’t exactly future beats, I started making stuff that leaned more towards Soda Island kind of music, but then it got darker and darker.”
Thanks to the progressive culture and incredibly receptive audiences, Hong Kong has been a major touring destination for bass music artists. Celebrated names like Flowdan, Ivy Lab, and Bryan Gee have recently performed there, while local legends like Magnetic Soul have been passionately driving the scene forward with their unique and creative approaches.
Having spoken about Hong Kong from a political perspective,  and how it influenced the making of his ‘Monomyth’ EP, it was time to explore the club landscape of Hong Kong.
“The scene in Hong Kong is definitely underground. I think my favourite thing about Hong Kong in general is the local affinity with electronic music, and not EDM or Big Room, if you’d like to call it such. Most events aren’t large-scale, so naturally, it leans towards the underground. You have your drum & bass, you have your dubstep, your techno. All the flavours you’re looking for are there, but in an underground capacity, and I think it’s a factor that becomes conducive for artists to come, interact with the culture, and play what THEY want.”
The discussion then shifted to Saka’s ongoing tour in the United States, a destination he is quite familiar with. Saka has been witness to the rapidly expanding bass music scene in the country, which has seen the art form transition from clubs to festival main stages, with the potential for even greater growth in the future. He gave us a peek into the tour and his thoughts on how bass music is received in America.
“So I did my first headline tour this year, and the response was solid. All the major markets that I wanted to play my music and do well in were all sold out. I can’t ask for more, especially in this economy and considering the kind of music I make, I am definitely very grateful for that.
Coming to how I feel bass music has progressed in the United States – First and foremost, I think bass music is really young and I think it’s America’s first foray into the less noisy type of EDM. Tech House for example, because I remember the flavour of that year was still Complextro. Then the first time Chris Lake’s track played, I think history was made at EDC. It grew massively, then there was this massive over-correction that followed, which I think will be the case with bass music as well.”
Right after the tour will be his debut UK show which he recently announced and this will be followed by his European debut as well. It’s needless to say the anticipation is off the scale, “First time in London, first international headline, first time in Europe. I’m definitely a bit nervous, but also excited. I think a lot of music I have made has been in consideration for how the UK and Europe might perceive it, and I feel quite inspired by the sounds from that side of the pond. I’m really excited to see how the shows pan out.”
Saka’s music traverses through such a wide range of styles that immerse you into his rich tapestry of emotions. For him to achieve this, he relies on a steady stream of motivation and inspiration. Equally important is his ability to reset and transition smoothly from one project to the next.
“I think hitting the reset button is exactly why I stay motivated. I like moving chapter to chapter and project to project, and I don’t stay in one area for too long to avoid the possibility of burnt-out. Last time I was close to burning out was when I was making ‘Halftime’. In my head, I was like “Oh shit” this is the thing I do that people like and respect me for, and this the thing that does well,  I should just keep making this.
When I had that mindset, I was literally running on fumes. I was like fuck, being able to expand and just be a little more eclectic has made me a lot more patient because, for me, it has to do with how much of your emotions you’re able to put in the tune. If you’re feeling super sad, and you go and write a happy liquid song, and you’ll think to yourself, this doesn’t make any sense. So, I try to be as honest as I can be with my emotions when I am writing music.”
This has also helped Saka manage his expectations and his growth at the pace at which he wants it “It feels consistent and easier to manage, because there are moments where you feel you’ve grown too fast and not many things are in your hands, and there’s an external power that’s holding the reigns of your music and your creativity.”
Coming to the end of our conversation, Saka gave a glimpse into his upcoming music and his progress towards what could be an album in the making. It might be heading our way sooner than we think. There are also a few creative trenches Saka intends to explore with his upcoming music and
There’s an EP I am working on with Fly so that’s the next thing from a music standpoint, between that I have a series of festival shows, then after that is the tour with Off The Trees. Me and Fly are going to be doing a bunch of shows together. After that, we will have our EP out, and we’ll do some shows together. But at some point in 2025, I will look at working on an album and start channelling my thoughts in that headspace.
When you are writing an album, it is lot more serious, that’s why I am leaving my autumn season open so I get more space to write music. I have a couple of the tracks that I know will be on the album, but besides that, it’s just an idea right now. I want to combine the style of the ‘Monomyth’ EP and the ‘Silk’ EP. writing this EP felt very cathartic, and I am keen to see how my emotions and my love for cultures and mythologies converge into an LP.
I also think my album is going to be the proper vehicle to put out some of the drum & bass I have been working on. The two tunes I mentioned I have ready for the album are drum & bass and it’s definitely some of my favourite work so far
Finally, a tour in the region Saka honed his craft in? That’d be a proper full-circle moment, wouldn’t it? “I really hope to play and tour in Asia very soon. I played my first show in China this year and it was awesome. I really want to tour China, India, and Japan and play some shows in Korea as well.
The realistic time to look at an Asia tour will be once the album is out; it will just be a better setting for me to bring the tour to fruition; and yes, that would definitely be a full circle moment.”

What about some solid melodic techno on one of Empire of the Sun‘s classics? That’s what UNDERMOON have done with Walking on a Dream.
Hailing from Ukraine, Skober and R.A.N. form UNDERMOON. They have been waves recently released on international techno labels such as Drumcode, Terminal M, Tronic, and many more. They both use digital and analog gears but in the latest period have been experienced with analog synthesizers and drum machines.
Their take on Walking on a Dream is made most by it. If you listen closely you can hear organic and warm sounds.
Designed for big dance floors and festivals, this track features epic melodies and a driving rhythm. A standout moment includes a vocoder effect in the middle, adding a unique digital twist to the overall composition.
It introduces dark and mysterious harmonies with hypnotic and kind of unclear harmonies.
The tune is chill but at the same time obscure, creating a mix of emotions into the listener.

Serge Bulat’s “Omorphita Cornershop” is out now. Ten tracks of pure dance energy. Balkan rhythms meet electronic beats. It’s a wild ride.
Bulat’s immigrant story shines through. You can feel the struggle. The triumph. The resilience.
“Vrzka” kicks things off. Theodosii Spassov’s kaval weaves magic. It’s haunting. Mesmerizing. Sets the tone perfectly.
Field recordings add authenticity. Greek and Turkish Cypriot sounds blend seamlessly. It’s a musical bridge across divides.
Genre-wise, it’s Aphex Twin territory. Bonobo’s realm too. But Bulat carves his own niche. Fresh takes on familiar styles. Exciting twists. A unique voice in electronic landscapes.
The album pulses with life. Each track is a story. A journey. An experience.
Nicosia’s divided spirit echoes throughout. It’s a metaphor for our times. For Bulat’s own journey.
From Moldovan-Ukrainian border town to global acclaim. Bulat’s path wasn’t easy. This album proves it was worth it.
Ukraine. Moldova. Gaza. The world’s turmoil fuels Bulat’s creativity. He turns pain into art. Despair into hope.
The cornershop concept is brilliant. A place for stories. For connections. For unexpected discoveries.
You can almost see the shelves. Hear the chatter. Feel the vibrant energy of this imaginary space.
The album in depth
Crossing kicks off strong. Cinematic vibes. Organic sounds blend with drums. Chill harmonies wash over you. It’s a gentle invitation. A warm welcome to Bulat’s world.
Borgomuth Lokum takes a dark turn. Experimental. Downtempo beats pulse. Glitched synths surprise. It’s unsettling. Intriguing. Pulls you deeper into the album’s depths.
Here Lies Othello cranks up the energy. Hypnotic percussion hits hard. Fast. Relentless. The snare drives you forward. Euphoria builds. It’s a rush. Pure dance floor magic.
Hoipolloi shifts gears. Downtempo again. Glitch-organic harmonies intrigue. Deep melodies intertwine with dark percussion. Mysterious. Moody. It’s a journey into shadow.
Nekyia brings the light. The plucked theme catches your ear. Rolling percussion propels. Dreamy melodies float above. It’s a perfect balance. Catchy yet complex. You’ll hit replay.
Vrzka introduces the human voice. Theodosii Spassov’s vocals soar. Chill harmonies support. Feel-good vibes abound. It’s the album’s heart. A celebration of collaboration.
Ibraheem Charm goes deeper still. Soft. Mystical synths weave spells. It’s meditative. Trance-like. You’ll lose yourself in its gentle waves.
CO-PI-I might be the dreamiest track. Drums and percussion ground the floaty vibes. It’s a lullaby for the dance floor. Gentle yet insistent. Soothing yet engaging.
Araf City is a sonic adventure. Three-dimensional melodies surround you. Organic and tribal percussion grounds you. It’s immersive. A world unto itself.
Cikis closes on a soft note. It’s a gentle goodbye. A come-down after the journey. Leaves you reflective. Satisfied. Ready to start the album again.
Each track has its own world. Yet they flow seamlessly. Bulat’s vision unites them all. It’s a masterful sequence. A true album experience in the age of singles.
You’ll have your favorites. They’ll change with each listen. That’s the mark of a great album. Always something new to discover.
Bulat’s range impresses. From dark to light. Experimental to accessible. He does it all. With style. With purpose.
The percussion work stands out. Complex. Varied. It’s the album’s backbone. Drives the energy. Shapes the mood.
Melodies linger in your mind. You’ll hum them later. Unexpected earworms from an electronic album. That’s skill.
It’s a journey worth taking. Again and again. Bulat’s “Omorphita Cornershop” delivers. On every level.

Our take on the album
Each track has a different aisle. A new flavor. A fresh perspective on life and art.
Bulat invites us to try new things. To listen. To learn. To grow.
The album’s strength lies in its universality. It speaks to the immigrant in all of us. The seeker. The dreamer.
Dance beats drive the narrative. They’re relentless. Infectious. Impossible to resist.
But there’s depth here too. Layers of meaning. Of emotion. Of shared human experience.
Bulat’s synth work shines. It’s complex. Nuanced. A far cry from his single-keyboard days.
Yet that DIY spirit remains. You can hear the passion. The determination. The sheer joy of creation.
This is music as survival. As therapy. As a bridge between cultures and experiences.
It’s also just damn good fun. You’ll move. You’ll groove. You’ll lose yourself in the rhythms.
Standout tracks abound. Each listen reveals new favorites. New nuances. New reasons to hit replay.
Production is top-notch. Crystal clear. Every element is distinct yet cohesive.
The album flows beautifully. A journey from start to finish. No filler. All killer.
Bulat’s growth as an artist is evident. He’s found his voice. His sound. His message.
It’s music with a purpose. To unite. To inspire. To heal.
But never preachy. Never heavy-handed. The message is in the music itself.
You’ll hear echoes of conflict. Of displacement. Of longing for home.
But also of hope. Of resilience. Of the power of human creativity.
This is dance music with a soul. With a story. With something to say.
Bulat doesn’t shy away from complexity. From contradiction. From the messiness of life.
Instead, he embraces it. Transforms it. Makes it beautiful.
The result is an album that feels both timely and timeless. Rooted in today’s world yet reaching for something universal.
It’s a celebration of diversity. Of cultural exchange. Of the richness that comes from blending traditions.
But also a reminder of what we share. Our common humanity. Our shared struggles and joys.
Bulat’s immigrant perspective is crucial. It gives the album its unique flavor. Its emotional resonance.
You can hear the influences. The musical journey from Moldova to Cyprus and beyond.
But it never feels like pastiche. Like tourism. This is a lived experience transformed into art.
The album’s energy is infectious. It’s impossible to listen passively. You’re drawn in. Swept along.
Yet there are moments of reflection too. Of quieter introspection. Of pause amidst the rhythm.
These contrasts give the album its depth. It’s staying power. Its emotional impact.
You’ll want to dance. To move. To lose yourself in the beat.
But you’ll also want to listen closely. To unpack the layers. To hear the stories within the music.
It’s an album that rewards repeated listens. That reveals itself slowly. That grows with you.
Bulat has created something special here. A true artist’s statement. A masterpiece of electronic dance music.
But more than that, a testament to the human spirit. To our capacity for joy in the face of adversity.
To our ability to create beauty from pain. To find a connection in a divided world.
“Omorphita Cornershop” is more than just an album. It’s an experience. A journey. A celebration.
Of life. Of art. Of the power of music to transform and unite us.
Listen. Dance. Feel. Let Serge Bulat take you on a journey. You won’t regret it.
This is electronic music at its finest. Thoughtful. Innovative. Deeply human.
Bulat has set a new standard. For himself. For the genre. For what music can be and do.
“Omorphita Cornershop” is a triumph. A must-listen. An album that will stay with you long after the last beat fades.

This track has become one of the unofficial anthems of the summer, flipping a beloved record from the 90s into Dance.
Sydney-based DJ Levi has rapidly ascended the global music scene, winning audiences over with a blend of South African Amapiano, House, and Techno, plus a sparkle of 90s nostalgia — a unique pairing that has become his trademark. His sets, which embody this combo, have become a sought-after experience, selling out shows across Australia and India.
Riding the wave of his success, Levi has embarked on an extensive European tour, gracing the stages of renowned festivals like Street Parade in Zurich. His tour will continue to captivate audiences in Portugal, Dubai, Canada, and Switzerland before Sunice Festival. One of the strongest points of his sets is ‘Jump‘, the track that arguably propelled him to new heights.
‘Jump’
Not long ago, Levi’s career skyrocketed with the release of his breakout single, ‘Jump‘. The track, which amasses over 12 million combined streams across platforms, is a fresh and innovative take on Ginuwine’s classic ‘Pony‘, a 1996 R&B record that claimed the top spot of Billboard’s US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and made an appearance on countless others all over the world.
And why does this track do so well? It boils down to the success of the original track, which is embedded in many minds, plus the groovy spin Levi put on it, turning the original piece into a Peak-Time Afro House tune, perfect for packed gigs out on the open — which is exactly the kind of shows Levi offers. It’s frankly irresistible.

The renowned Bass artist is running an extensive round of gigs throughout the greater part of North America this autumn.
Following the critical acclaim of his latest studio album, Open Channel, which includes sites such as Forbes, Clash, UKF, and SPIN, Dance music producer Barclay Crenshaw embarks on a comprehensive North American tour this upcoming autumn. This expanded tour itinerary is a direct response to his album’s great reception among fans and critics alike.
The Open Channel Tour showcases a selection of Claude VonStroke’s Bass moniker, from which stand out hits like ‘Stay Together‘ featuring TeeZandos, ‘Do My Ting‘ featuring Flowdan and Stush, and the chart-topping ‘Big In The Game‘ featuring Snowy & Manga Saint Hilare.
Although named after the LP, Crenshaw’s sets are planned to extend beyond Open Channel, paying homage to the genre with a blend of modern and classic Bass music, weaved with his signature Hip-Hop favourites and eclectic edits. Earlier this year, Twitch announced the Twitch DJ Program, a major step forward for the DJ community, the music industry, and the millions of music fans on Twitch. DJs have historically faced serious challenges on the Internet because their content is complex and doesn’t fit into traditional music structures. Thanks to a historic partnership with major labels like Universal, Warner, Sony and hundreds of independent labels, Twitch will be the first major service to provide a long-term home for DJs to legally livestream using the vast majority of popular music.
The Program allows DJ’s to grow and engage with their communities, but does so within a framework that also fairly compensates musicians. Joining the program means you are cleared to stream a catalog that includes tens of millions of tracks representing the vast majority of popular music, and you’ll be eligible for new promotional opportunities too. You can view the catalog of music the program allows you to stream here.

If you enroll in the program during the first year, you’ll qualify for a Twitch subsidy that helps cover the new music costs for partners and affiliates. This starts at 100% for the month of August. Learn more about the subsidy program here. The program comes with some changes to your account that you should understand before you join. You can learn more here, and find answers to questions we’ve heard from the Twitch DJ Community here. You’re free to opt out at any time, but if you plan on streaming DJ content, you are responsible for making sure you have the necessary authorizations from rights holders to do so.
The DJ Program is now live, and you can join it here.

Universal Music Group (UMG) announced a new deal with Meta, which will enhance creative and commercial opportunities for UMG artists and Universal Music Publishing Group songwriters across Meta’s global platforms. These platforms include Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, Horizon, Threads, and, for the first time, and WhatsApp.
Users can now share licensed music from UMG within WhatsApp. UMG highlighted that this partnership with Meta to license music for WhatsApp creates “new value for UMG artists and songwriters moving forward.”
Additionally, UMG and Meta plan to collaborate on addressing unauthorized AI-generated content that could impact artists and songwriters.
This announcement comes two weeks after UMG mentioned Meta in its Q2 earnings report, covering the three months ending in June. Despite UMG’s overall revenues increasing by 9.6% year-over-year, the company reported a 3.9% decline in ad-funded streaming revenues. UMG’s CFO, Boyd Muir, explained that part of this decline was due to Meta’s decision in May to stop licensing premium videos for Facebook from UMG, as these videos were “less popular with Facebook’s user base than other music products.”
However, UMG and Meta have now finalized a “multifaceted renewal,” expanding monetization opportunities for UMG artists and songwriters through short-form videos and other areas of music content. In a joint statement, the companies emphasized their continued innovation and collaboration in the music space.
In summary, while UMG faced some revenue challenges due to Meta’s decision to halt licensing premium videos on Facebook, the new agreement has opened up new revenue streams for UMG, particularly in the short-form video and WhatsApp licensing spaces.
UMG’s new agreement with Meta builds on the “strategic framework” established with their 2017 “landmark agreement,” which made UMG the first major music company to license its catalogs across Facebook’s platforms. UMG noted that Facebook played a pioneering role as music’s first fully licensed partner among major social media platforms.
This partnership follows a 2022 deal in which UMG and Meta expanded revenue-sharing and enhanced engagement with UMG’s catalog. That agreement included the use of UMG’s music within Meta’s user-generated content (UGC) video payout model, with Meta sharing a portion of advertising revenue with music rights holders for certain user-generated video content on Facebook that is 60 seconds or longer.

Bryce Connolly, professionally known as indie dance connoisseur mindchatter, delivered an electrifying live set at a jam-packed Sutro Stage during Outside Lands‘ 2024 installment. At the start of the year, Connolly issued an official remix of Poolside and Ben Browning’s “Ride With You,” streaming via Counter Records. Soon after, the New York City-bred producer shared two new singles, “Brain Pills” followed by “Corporate Shakespeare,” rounding out his second EP materializing on ODESZA‘s esteemed Foreign Family Collective, titled This Is A Reminder That You Are Not Behind Your Face.
After a major appearance alongside Walker & Royce at The Shrine, plus sold-out headline tour dates in Los Angeles, New York, and Denver, mindchatter co-signed a pair of official remixes for his two latest releases. Ahead of his climactic Outside Lands performance, symbolizing a culmination of his North American tour, mindchatter recruited Familiar Faces, who turned in a minimal tech rendition of “Brain Pills,” and Azzecca, who shared her acidic interpretation of “Corporate Shakespeare.”
Now that Outside Lands has come and gone, mindchatter is already gearing up to get back out on the road; this time, out overseas. In an exclusive Q&A with ‘Dancing Astronaut,’ the Foreign Family artist revealed a slew of fresh tour datest, bringing his A Chorus of Monologues Tour to over 35 dates across 5 different countries. What’s more, the acclaimed DREAM SOUP producer confirmed that, yes, his third studio album is indeed in the works.
Browse mindchatter’s extended tour dates and read the exclusive Q&A below.
You’re no stranger to major festivals. How has your live set evolved over time?
Last year, you put out “Got Cash” with Emmit Fenn, who you also worked with on “Hips” in 2022. Aside from those records, mindchatter operates pretty independently. Is this by happenstance or do you like working solo?
DREAM SOUP officially landed over two years ago, in April 2022. Has it felt that long? How much do you still identify with the project?
You’ve maintained a consistent aesthetic since launching your artist project in 2019. What inspired this vision?
What goes into deciding on the producers who remix your original works?
Do you have any upcoming shows in cities you’re excited to perform in?
Can fans expect another full-length album anytime soon?
Lastly, even though you tend to work independently, is there someone out there you’d love to put out a record with?

Armed with turntables and a baby bump, Lily McKenzie is redefining the sounds of resilience.
The South London-based DJ, producer and singer-songwriter recently released Pressure, her debut EP, via Warner's Major Recordings label. Influenced by impending motherhood, the project palpitates with the raw energy of creation—both musical and maternal.
In Pressure, McKenzie crafts haunting yet energetic dance music that echoes the complexities of her dual roles. With a growing life internally and a burgeoning career externally, she's turning pressure into power and vulnerability into art.
The surging triple-threat, who recently performed twice at Glastonbury while pregnant, spins tales of self-worth and resilience in her new record. Through the sensual slink of "Satellite" and the aching twinge of the UK garage-inspired "Middle," among other tracks, the EP serves as a reminder that we are much more than the sum of our struggles.
McKenzie is currently riding the wave of a breakout after nabbing support from Capital Dance as well as BBC Radio 1's "Future Sounds" and "Future Dance with Sarah Story." She's also landed on major playlists such as Spotify's "New Dance Revolution" and "The Loft."
We caught up with McKenzie to discuss her new EP and the adversity that comes with navigating the music industry as a pregnant woman.
EDM.com: Before we get into the new EP, let's talk Glasto. What was your experience like performing not once, but twice this year?
Lily McKenzie: Glastonbury was amazing. It's always such a privilege to perform there and I always find that anyone I speak to—at whatever level they are in their career—there’s a sense honor but also pressure to put on a great show.
I played at the Stonebridge bar, which was packed and such good energy—I was worried I wouldn’t be able to get to the stage as it was so crowded! I also played The Temple, which is one of my favorite venues, so that was definitely one to remember.
View the original article to see embedded media.
EDM.com: With this EP, it's all in the name. How does the concept of pressure relate to your personal and professional life, especially in the context of your current journey as a pregnant woman?
Lily McKenzie: Pressure is about navigating your way through the strains of life, in particular within the music industry. I definitely feel those pressures, and being pregnant your emotions and hormones are heightened so that adds another layer!
The EP discusses these concepts, but it’s about knowing you are enough, seeing through what doesn’t serve, and coming out stronger. When you are true to yourself, everything levels out and you are able to thrive under pressure.
EDM.com: The track "Satellite" explores detachment and our pleas—even desperate at times—for human connection. From where did you pull inspiration to write those profound lyrics?
Lily McKenzie: I think we all feel a little lost at times—the world can be so noisy and it can be hard to feel connected. I wrote this song with two amazing producers, Andy Sheldrake and Ross Quinn, and after chatting we found we had all experienced these feelings at some point in our lives. We thought back to times we’d felt that way and from there the lyrics just flowed.
EDM.com: There's been a growing conversation around the stigmas that pregnant artists face in the music industry. What have been some of the biggest obstacles you've encountered, and how have you navigated them to stay true to your vision?
Lily McKenzie: I did feel at first that I had to hide being pregnant for as long as possible as I was worried people would think I couldn’t be booked for shows, or wouldn’t be able to release music. But to be honest, the response has been really positive and I think there has been a shift.
As soon as you show you can do it (literally perform pregnant) then it’s normalized and the opportunities will hopefully keep coming. Women are proving we can do it all and I think it’s such a powerful and inspiring thing—I for one feel so lifted when I see other women doing the same.
EDM.com: How have you been managing the physical and emotional challenges of pregnancy alongside the demands of your burgeoning career?
Lily McKenzie: Pregnancy for me has definitely been physically and emotionally challenging and I’ve just had to go at my own pace. I’ve made sure to be kind to myself and rest when I’ve needed to. Staying busy with my career has helped though as it’s been a distraction when I haven’t been feeling great. It’s important to stay positive and music has always been my happy place too.
View the original article to see embedded media.
EDM.com: What advice would you give to other expecting musicians navigating this territory?
Lily McKenzie: I would say that there’s no rules. People have different experiences and the priority is making sure you and your baby stay healthy—9 months is a really short time if you look at the bigger picture. You can only do as much as you feel strong enough to do.
I’ve been really lucky to have had great people around me at my shows, or in my studio sessions, so if I’ve been tired or unwell they’ve totally understood. I would say that’s so important, make sure the people you work with on this journey have that same understating and compassion.
EDM.com: Looking ahead, what kind of impact do you think motherhood may have on your artistry? Do you see yourself approaching lyricism, production or other processes through a different lens?
Lily McKenzie: I write from a very honest and sensitive place and I think if anything motherhood will enhance that. I don’t expect my sound or process to change too much as that’s already a strong part of me, but this is my first time having this experience so I’m sure I will notice any changes as I go along!
EDM.com: What's next for you? Without getting into too much trouble, are there any exciting things in the Lily McKenzie pipeline you can reveal to our readers?
Lily McKenzie: It’s definitely been go, go, go leading up to the EP which has been great, but I’ll be taking the next few months to enjoy being a first time mum for sure. It’ll also be nice to spend that time listening to music and crate-digging at a slower pace.
I have been writing lots of new music that I’m excited about and I’m planning to drop some new records towards the end of the year. I’ve also started booking in some shows for then too—so it’ll be nice after a little break to come back with a fresh perspective!

Out today is the newest single from award-winning artist and producer Ben Böhmer, entitled ‘Rust.’ The track continues the lead up to Böhmer’s third studio album, Bloom, arriving September 27 via Ninja Tune.
While Ben’s previous singles serve as a stark departure from his signature sound—he’s determined to break out of the pre-fabricated boxes he’s been put—’Rust’ is a callback for his fans who adore the sound of his previous projects. Begin Again (2021) and Breathing (2019) earned Ben immense success (nearly 1 billion plays, and 200 shows in 2022 alone), but he found himself being pulled too far in a direction that wasn’t meant to define him. Identifying more as a composer/songwriter, Ben set out to write Bloom as a reset, sharing music that shows the breadth and depth of his talent. ‘Rust,’ within the context of the previous singles, shows that the dreamy, melodic house that his fans love, is still a key part of his sound, while he continues to branch out.
‘Rust’ follows the previously released, Pitchfork-supported ‘Hiding,’ a collaboration with award-winning dream pop icon Lykke Li, and the lead single ‘Best Life,’ with one of Ben’s favorite collaborators, JONAH, earlier this year. The new single is a powerful, piano-led track with a steady rhythm, featuring swathes of orchestral crescendos and soft, delicate interludes, evoking the rich palette of emotions he’s known for.
Up Next for Ben Böhmer
Ben is fresh off several major performances, including festivals such as Lollapalooza, Sonar by Night and Electric Forest, and serving as direct support for ODESZA at The Gorge, BMO Stadium, and Madison Square Garden. Looking ahead, he’ll round out his North American tour with a stop at Portola before embarking on an Australian tour, on track to sell out across the continent, where he’ll perform in music halls across Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne (currently sold out). Then, he’ll head back to Europe for a string of massive fall shows (46k capacity total), including a stop at the Great Hall of Alexandra Palace.
About Ben Böhmer
Ben’s music and live performances have earned him widespread acclaim from fans and tastemakers alike. In 2023, he completed the biggest-ever North American live touring run while reaching 4 million monthly Spotify listeners and accumulating over 1.3M social followers across all platforms. His Cercle set has surpassed 32 million views and is now one of the top 10 most viewed electronic music sets of all time on YouTube. He’s shared festival stage bills with the likes of Caribou, Four Tet, Bicep, Jamie xx, and Amelie Lens, and in 2022, launched Portraet, his four-night residency at the open-air Ibiza club Cova Santa, enlisting Barry Can’t Swim, HAAi, Sofia Kourtesis and more to play alongside him.
