Kygo and Whitney Houston's "Higher Love" Joins Spotify's Billion-Stream Club

Kygo's "Higher Love" has reached even greater heights after joining Spotify's elusive billion-stream club.
It's not hard to see why. The Norwegian dance music superstar's 2019 remake of the Whitney Houston classic blended the untouchable diva's powerful vocals with his sun-soaked beats, creating a modern anthem that effortlessly bridges generations.
Houston's voice, already immortal, found new life in Kygo's fresh arrangement, which feels eternally summer. It's the kind of track that somehow fits any moment: a late-night drive, an electric music festival or a breezy morning with coffee.
"It was an honor to get the opportunity to work on this amazing track, thanks to Whitney’s estate for believing in me," Kygo wrote in a celebratory X post.
"Higher Love" is Kygo's fourth song to join Spotify's three-comma club after "It Ain't Me," "Firestone" and "Stole the Show." The track ultimately topped Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart in the US, becoming the third for Kygo and 14th for Houston to do so.

What To Know Before You Go To Dreamstate SoCal 2024

Dreamers! We are treading really closely to our reunion. The Queen Mary will have us once again to share our love for Trance and Techno in Long Beach for Insomniac’s Dreamstate Music Festival Southern California 2024. The love and the light will reign supreme for two days of high-energy sets, art, and twisted afterparties. However, once most prepare, and if there’s something we learnt last year is that the dynamic is different than the NOS Center in San Bernardino. So, let’s start packing and plan out a magical weekend, yet again.
The Venue
The Queen Mary is an established waterfront that hosts many Insomniac shows such as Daytrip and Apocalypse. The cement port hosts four stages through the weekend. The days run for 12 hours each 1pm to 1am, with two afters that will allow you to bathe in the beautiful morning light on the ship, ending at 6am. You do need to take the bridge to get to the venue. Therefore, Dreamstate offers free shuttles that go from the convention center to the venue and back on both days. There will be prepaid parking on The Pike and the convention center. There will also be designated areas for rideshare drop-off near the venue.
The venue has two major zones that are connected by a metal bridge and a tunnel. There could be some congestion once the festival is at peak hours so we recommended being considerate while moving in between areas to avoid any accidents during bottlenecks. We expect the vibes to be as amazing as usual, so make sure you stack up on kandi and trinkets to share with your fellow ravers. We alro recommend to arrive early to take opportunity of the photo ops and check out the vendors.
The Weather
Last year the weather was a bit unpredictible, with a regular november temperature on Friday. However, it got cooler on Saturday, with some rain towards the later times. Fashion-wise, ravers were really prepared with multiple layers to peel or add depending on the circumstance. So, we definitely recommend planning your outfits accordingly.
The Lineup
At Dreamstate, this is by far one of the most exciting lineups for Trance fans each year. There will be tons of influential artists that have shaped the scene to what it is today. These include Darude, Armin van Buuren, Vini Vici, Infected Mushroom, Brian Kearney, Ruben de Ronde, Markus Schultz, and more.
This gets spicy as our Trance destination flips on its darker turn with an insane Techno lineup. Just as last year, there will be a Techno takeover on Friday. Must-watch artists include Anfisa Letyago, Funk Tribu, BLK, Hector Oaks, and Cera Khin. Other DJs who love to play insane Techno include Victor Ruiz and Giorgia Angiuli. Saturday we have major progressive artists that will delight us with some gorgeous beats. These include Above & Beyond, Amy Wiles and Leena Punks, Andrew Bayer, and Grigore.

EDSea Returns to Miami After Medical Emergencies & Possibly 1 Death

In a cloudy succession of events in the early hours of November 5th, the Norwegian Joy, the cruise currently hosting EDC’s EDSea, had to return to Miami after running into medical emergencies on board.
While little is currently known about the situation and no official statement has been released, internauts at the festival have been sketching the situation for the rest to try and understand. Theories involve a concussed individual who fell off a balcony, cases of overdose, and even one passing.
A Twitter user by the name @moderatelymoist reported, “Back in Miami briefly due to a medical emergency. Staff member said they’ve had 4 serious medical emergencies today“. Meanwhile, a thread on Reddit has several users exposing their views on the situation.
As of now, there is no confirmation of any sort by the EDSea team, therefore all these different reports should be taken with a grain of salt. We’ll be updating this story if there are any updates on the situation. Stay tuned.

Crys L’s “Hironoda” Bridges Past and Present with some Retro Fusion

Crys L‘s “Hironoda” boldly moves backward to forward in a time when electronic music sometimes follows the next trend. This throbbing work of electronic craftsmanship offers a fresh version that resonates with modern audiences and is a love letter to the pioneering sounds of 1980s Electronic Body Music (EBM).
With truly old synthesizer tones that could have come from a forgotten underground club circa 1985, “Hironoda” sets its retro credentials from the first minutes. The basis of the music is the EBM framework: hypnotic patterns, industrial-tinged percussion, and mechanically exact rhythms demanding movement.
Still, this is far from a simple nostalgic pastime. Crys L adds subdued layers of modern production techniques while early EBM sometimes embraced a purposefully harsh, almost cruel look. The sound design shows depth and clarity not found in the original heyday of the genre. Perfect, clean mixing lets every component occupy its own place and help to create a coherent whole.

Chizawa Q Unveils ‘Xenoverse’ Album On R&S Records, Pioneering A Universe Unseen.

In a pivotal moment for the music industry, it’s rare to see an artist emerge with the power to redefine boundaries. Chizawa Q has crafted a forward-thinking collection that proudly honours foundational influences while pushing into new sonic territory. His debut album on the powerhouse label R&S Records ‘Xenoverse’ is set for release November 22, 2024.

Chizawa describes his album as “a soundtrack to a universe not yet born – a sci-fi score stirring memories of a world we’ve never known. Being on R&S Records, a label with a legacy of showcasing Japanese artists like Ken Ishii, is a personal milestone.” 
Born in Yokohama, Japan, Chizawa Q remains deeply rooted in his homeland, recording this full-length project across from Tokyo Bay. Following the success of two lead singles: “Beluga” (October 4) and “Black Nebula” (October 25), Xenoverse channels the legacy of Detroit techno giants like Underground Resistance, Kenny Larkin, and Carl Craig, blended with European jazz techno innovators such as Dave Angel and Vince Watson. 

With contributions from Masaki Sakamoto, Kowalewski, and Dan Samsa, as well as a remix by Tokyo drum ‘n’ bass icon Makoto Shimizu, Xenoverse spans deep, driving techno and intricate electronica, creating a ten-track journey that blends jazz and abstract beat science for a unique, immersive experience. Maddix Talks Transmission Bangkok, Genre-Bending, and the Maddix Rumble Plug-In

After setting Transmission Bangkok 2024 ablaze with an electrifying performance, Maddix sat down with us to reflect on his unique musical journey, his game-changing collaborations, and the recent launch of his signature Maddix Rumble plug-in. Known for pioneering a bold fusion of Big Room, Techno, and Trance, Maddix opened up about the freedom he’s found in merging genres and his evolving role as an inspiration to aspiring producers worldwide. From his unforgettable set at Transmission to his upcoming debut marathon set at ADE, Maddix continues to redefine what it means to push boundaries in electronic music.
You’ve just finished an insane set here at Transmission in Bangkok. Could you tell us a bit about it? How do you feel? 
I feel amazing. I think this is the best set I’ve done in the whole of Thailand and it was a crazy crowd. I love it so much. 
You’re known for merging big room, techno and trance, could you tell us about this journey and how you got to this point? 
So back in the day, I used to do big room only and I got a bit tired of the genre and wanted to do something different. So I realized that actually I wouldn’t buy a ticket to my own show because I would rather go to a techno event and that’s the moment I realized I should change it to something different. I went to the studio and managed to get some techno influences, some trance influences, it’s like a mix of everything and I love it. I can now play at Transmission but also play a techno stage and I love it. A lot of freedom. 
I wanted to talk about your collaborations and your mentorship. So you’ve worked closely with Hardwell over the years and have had a lot of releases with him. How has that relationship influenced this transition from big room to techno? 
He’s been a really good friend during my big room days. He’s also changed his style and it was a perfect fit so we decided to do some collaborations together and it’s worked out perfectly. I love to work with him. He’s a really talented DJ and producer. 
Following up on that, what would be your favorite collaboration with him if you had to pick one. 
That’s hard. But I really like Satisfaction and I still play it because it’s like techno-y.
I wanted to talk about your recent launch – the Maddix Rumble plug-in. Could you tell us about that? 
I remember Revealed Recordings, Hardwell‘s label that I’m still working with asking me if there’s anything that pops up in my mind as they want to build some plug-ins. It was hard to think of as I’m always in the studio producing music and then I realized that I’m manually creating all these rumbles and using all these crazy plug-ins to do it. I thought can we do it in one plug-in, and I shared my ideas and they loved it. Its out now and I use it for almost every single track myself and a lot of techno and trance DJs they actually use it.
So what’s the significance it has on home producers, or Instagram/TikTok DJs who see you as an inspiration and want to make the same music as you? How do you think this will help them?  
I think it helps them make the same kinds of kicks I make way faster because it’s the signature sound. All the presets I put in there are actually presets I use myself. I use them for my kicks and they can just grab it and in a second they can have the same thing.
So you’ve played at some of the biggest festivals in the world and you have ADE coming up. Could you tell us a bit about that?  
It’s actually my first my only event at ADE and it’s the first time I’m going to play a 7 hour set. I mean I’ve done 3 hour sets before but yeah this one is going to be 7 hours. There’s going to be a lot of back-2-backs happening with a few of my favorite artists and it’s going to be massive. The day after I will also be playing at AMF which is the biggest show there. I’m going to be playing in a stadium in front of 30,000 but I’m really looking forward to it.
Looking ahead and talking about the future, what can fans expect like besides ADE and beyond that? 
There are three more releases coming this year, including some special ones before the end of this year. I’m also working on some new music which is difficult to do because I’m touring so much but there’s a lot of exciting stuff happening. Basically I go with the flow. I’m just making music and see what comes out. I try it out and if it doesn’t work, I change the song. 
Do you have any last words and about your set today?  
Transmission Bangkok was amazing. I love it here. It was my first time at this festival here and insane energy. I was a little afraid because I do not play trance that much but you guys went crazy and I loved it. Thank you.

Innellea Shows Once Again His Mastery With Uplifting single ‘Euphoria’

Innellea takes us back into his dark but comforting universe with his new single ‘Euphoria‘. A song that, as its name suggests, indicates a feeling of great emotion for a specific event, such as a celebration or an important milestone in our lives. Available now via his imprint Distorted Youth.
Since the beginning of his productive activity back in 2016 until the latest songs and remixes, Innellea has always shown that, although his predominant style is susceptible to be within the house and melodic techno, his musical repertoire has always gone a little further in terms of creativity compared to artists of a similar nature, thus confirming himself as an uneven producer within his genre.
Based on this concept, the artist presents a new single called ‘Euphoria’ which seems to continue the path proposed by his most recent album The Belonging. Throughout the track, he confirms a clear melancholic and existentialist tone but also, at the same time, powerful and aggressive with a hopeful final message.

UMG Files $500 Million Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Against TuneCore

Universal Music Group, ABKCO and Concord Music Group are seeking "at least" $500 million in damages after filing a copyright infringement lawsuit against TuneCore and the music distributor's parent company, Believe, Billboard reports.
TuneCore allows independent artists to easily distribute their music across major streaming services like Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon. The company, which in 2015 was acquired by Believe for an undisclosed sum, says it's paid out over $4 billion in revenue to artists since its 2006 launch.
UMG, ABKCO and Concord have collectively accused TuneCore of enabling "massive" fraud and piracy in the bombshell lawsuit, filed November 4th in Manhattan federal court. The coalition's complaint alleges that Believe's platform is "overrun with fraudulent 'artists' and pirate record labels" that are distributing illegal derivatives of hit songs to streaming services and social media.
Those so-called artists, lawyers for the plaintiffs claim, uploaded "minor variants" of hit tracks by the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and many more. They reportedly attempted to avoid detection by attributing the music to intentionally misspelled names like "Kendrik Laamar,' "Arriana Gramde," "Jutin Biber" and "Llady Gaga."
Believe, which operates in over 50 countries, has positioned itself as an independent, artist-friendly alternative to major label distribution. The explosive lawsuit, a major escalation in the ongoing battle against music piracy, accuses the company of failing to adequately police its platform.
"Believe is a company built on industrial-scale copyright infringement," a UMG spokesperson said in a statement. "Their illegal practices are not limited to cheating artists on major labels but artists on independent labels as well—including artists on the independent labels within the trade bodies of which Believe is itself a member."
"It’s no wonder that Believe has been outspoken against the streaming reform principles for which so many major and independent labels have been advocating. Why? Because such reforms would undermine and expose their system of building scale and market presence by distributing music for which they have no rights and illegally collecting royalties to enrich themselves and their co-conspirators."
A spokesperson for Believe vehemently denied UMG's claims and said the company is preparing to fight them in court.
"As companies that work with artists and labels around the world, we take the respect of copyright very seriously," the Believe rep told Billboard. "We strongly refute these claims, and the statements made by Universal Music Group and will fight them. We have developed robust tools and processes to tackle this industrywide challenge, working collaboratively with partners and peers and will continue to do so. We have been at the forefront of the digital music ecosystem for nearly 20 years, supporting the development of independent artists and labels, and have been awarded Tier 1 status and included in the Preferred Partner Program across all music stores."

U.S. Court Greenlights Major Class Action Lawsuit Over Live Nation and Ticketmaster Pricing

The Ninth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals has upheld a lower court's decision allowing a class action lawsuit to proceed against Live Nation and its subsidiary, Ticketmaster, over accusations of excessive ticket pricing.
The plaintiffs in the class action suit claim that Live Nation has monopolized the ticketing market, thereby inflating prices and limiting consumers' choices in the process. The court condemned the company's attempt to enforce restrictive arbitration policies, agreements that force customers to settle disputes privately rather than in court.
The ruling declared those policies "unconscionable and unenforceable." The development marks a significant shift after previous lawsuits were effectively blocked by these terms, which the court found made it nearly impossible for consumers to hold the ticketing giant accountable.
Live Nation initially argued that purchasing a ticket implicitly meant consumers waived their right to sue and instead required arbitration. However, the appeals panel has found the terms to be overly biased, stating in the decision that they were "so dense, convoluted, and internally contradictory as to be nearly unintelligible."
The ruling comes amid other ongoing legal troubles for Live Nation, including a separate multimillion-dollar lawsuit following a Ticketmaster data breach that exposed the private information of up to 560 million users, per TheTicketingBusiness.
