deadmau5, ILLENIUM and More to Headline X Games Aspen 2025

deadmau5 and extreme sports are a match made in adrenaline-fueled heaven, and this January, they’re coming together when he headlines X Games Aspen 2025.
Taking over Buttermilk Mountain on January 25th, the event is set to be a full-throttle celebration of music and action sports, and the addition of deadmau5 as Saturday's headliner is kicking expectations into overdrive.
Returning to Aspen for the first time since 2016, the influential "Strobe" producer comes armed with plenty of new sounds. His life offstage adds even more intrigue to his X Games appearance as he's known for similarly high-octane interests, like the Gumball 3000 motor rally. His headlining set is sure to channel the same adrenaline that fuels the jaw-dropping snowboarding and skiing feats seen throughout the weekend.
Earlier in the week on Thursday, the festivities will open with electro-soul and hip-hop from Daily Bread. Friday features a headline performance by ILLENIUM along with a set by rising DJ duo Tessla. Capping off the weekend, deadmau5 and Colorado-based electronic duo Big Gigantic will curate a Saturday night finale.
General Admission tickets start at $50 and grant access to all competitions and musical acts, while premium options like the Chalet Pass provide luxury amenities such as private viewing lounges and exclusive meet-and-greets.

EDC Orlando 2024 Delivered an Unforgettable Experience

We packed our dancing shoes for a trip to our home turf and reunited under the Electric Sky in Orlando, Florida. EDMTunes spent all weekend exploring the Electric Daisy Carnival Orlando. Tinker Field hosted us yet again for three nights of incredible acts, tons of interactive installations, and love. The weekend of November 8-10 2024 will be one for the books. Let’s recap all the highlights of EDC Orlando, our favorite experiences and sets, as well as what we think could be improved for next year.
The Venue & Stages
Tinker Field has hosted the festival since 2011, and it continues to wow us each time. The four main stages that remain consistent through the Las Vegas edition and Orlando made a triumphant return this year. Kinetic Field featured a callback to the legendary 2014 mainstage design, while Circuit Grounds had massive screens for massive visuals, looking like an Ultra mainstage. Stereo Bloom was our highlight stage of the weekend, with a smooth and minimal structure that kept us hypnotized each night. This stage felt the least crowded as well. There were multiple water stations around the festival, and many amenities inside the VIP section for each stage. Moreover, we had tons of food options and fun carnival rides.

Although this allowed the dancefloor to have the biggest surface area yet, we were all hoping the design would mirror Las Vegas’ Neon Garden, which saw the return of its tent structure. We really really hope that EDC Orlando will give us some a covered Neon Garden again in the future. Shoutout to Casa Bacardi for having such a pretty club-like set up this year. They had their own rooftop bar with tables and delicious cocktails that kept us “hydrated” all weekend and presented pop-up sets by headliners such as Riordan, and Tom & Collins.
The Music
The speakers went full throttle all weekend, playing hits after hits on every stage. Major sets included matches made in EDM heaven such as Carl Cox b2b Vintage Culture, Eric Prydz, Oliver Heldens b2b Benny Benassi, Kaskade b2b Allison Wonderland, Worship (Dimension b2b Sub Focus b2b Shock Culture b2b 1991), and our favorite duo of the weekend Ameme b2b Honeyluv, who threw down some celestial Afrohouse on Saturday.
Other major acts include rising stars such as Max Styler, Odd Mob, Beltran, and Mau P. Legendary performances include Nicole Moudaber, I Hate Models, Amelie Lens, and John Summit. Slander’s Kinetic field set and their newest techno project Before Dawn both gave us quintessential Slander and new and fresh sounds that have claimed an even bigger audience, now press replay to that!
Gina Joy for Insomniac Events Honorable sets include Layla Benitez, Ganja White Night, Vini Vici’s sunset set, Mathame, Alesso, who included a heartfelt tribute to his late friend and former One Direction member Liam Payne in his set, and Illenium’s festival closing set. The DJ used all of the pyros and production left, including a uniquely crafted drone show that suited one of the best Melodic Bass artists of our generation.
The downtown takeover always provides great afterparties. This year, the Vanguard and Celine had the most notable afterparties, including fresh sets from Alesso and Patrick Mason.
The Vibes
EDC Orlando attracts tons of EDM fanatics from all over the East Coast. In fact, the attendance is basically double that of Ultra Music Festival in Miami. We traded lots of kandi, security was extremely nice and professional, and the PLUR was in full throttle. The crowds got a bit overwhelming at times this year, but that’s something that can be fixed with changes to the crowd flow and festival layout. There are simply too many people going in every direction at the same time, and it makes the trek from one stage to another quite treacherous at night. Dividing the walkways by direction would help with this. However, the point remains that everybody there was having the time of their lives!
What to look into for EDC Orlando 2025
The head of Insomniac Events Pasquale Rotella, continuesly exceeds expectations, delivering some of the best festivals in the world. As he continues to gather feedback from his shows, we notice the improvements as time passes. When it comes to Neon Garden we hope that it can return to its megastructural tent that it deserves. Moreover, Rotella also announced that given the massive success of EDC Orlando, he plans to expand the festival grounds to allow better movement and flow.

RFK Jr. Plans to Legalize Marijuana & Psychedelics to Fund Recovery Programs

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the incoming Secretary of Health and Human Services under President-Elect Trump (assuming he gets confirmed by the Senate), has revealed a bold plan to address addiction in the U.S. He plans to legalize marijuana and psychedelics, using tax revenue to fund recovery programs. These programs will combine addiction treatment with organic farming, offering a new path for those struggling with substance abuse.
Recovery Through Healing and Farming
RFK Jr.’s plan includes building “healing centers” in rural areas. These centers would focus on helping people in recovery by involving them in farming. Participants would grow organic food, care for animals, and work toward physical and emotional healing. The model is inspired by Italy’s San Patrignano center, which has shown success in treating addiction through agriculture.
Kennedy believes this approach will not only treat addiction but also teach valuable life skills. He criticized many current treatment programs, calling them ineffective and overly focused on profit.
Legalization and Regulation of Substances
Kennedy plans to federally decriminalize marijuana and allow states to regulate its use. He also supports legalizing psychedelics but wants access to be controlled. His focus is on therapeutic use, citing studies that show psychedelics can treat PTSD, depression, and other conditions. Could this finally be the end of the war on drugs as we know it in the US?
Tax revenue from these substances would fund recovery centers. Kennedy emphasized the need for accessible and affordable treatment options. “We need to make recovery simple and effective,” he said.
Banking Reforms and Broader Goals
In addition to legalization, RFK Jr. supports banking reforms for the cannabis industry. He backs the SAFE Banking Act, which would protect banks working with legal cannabis businesses.
Kennedy’s plan marks a shift in U.S. drug policy. By combining drug reform with innovative recovery models, he aims to create lasting change.

Zeds Dead's Vintage Dubstep Drips With Soul In New Single, "Sweet Memories"

Somewhere between a trippy daydream and the London underground, Zeds Dead's new single, "Sweet Memories," hits you with that vintage wobble that'll make your bones remember 2011.
Penning a gritty postcard from dubstep's warehouse days, the influential duo has excavated their roots to serve up a slice of pure nostalgic filth. "Sweet Memories" is vintage Zeds Dead, with thick, viscous bass that seeps through its woozy arrangement like cold honey.
There's something almost comforting about how the producers let their classic dubstep elements breathe, resisting the modern urge to overcomplicate. And the nostalgia is even more palpable thanks to their sampling of "I Can't Stand the Rain," a Memphis soul hit released by Ann Peebles back in 1973.
"Sweet Memories" is the lead single from Return to the Spectrum of Intergalactic Happiness, Zeds Dead's first album in eight years. Due out in March 2025, the record will feature many "nostalgic samples" and "references to the greats of pop-culture's past," according to a press release shared with EDM.com.
Zeds Dead are also taking the album on a US tour in 2025 and debuting a new, curated audiovisual experience. A pre-sale is launching on Wednesday, November 20th before tickets go on sale Friday, November 22nd. Fans of the duo can register for pre-sale access here.

The 1,000-capacity warehouse, which recently hosted three sold-out Portola Festival afterparties, has emerged as one of the Bay Area's most buzzworthy venues.
