Insomniac has always been synonymous with bringing larger-than-life experiences to Dance music fans. From their flagship Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC) to Nocturnal Wonderland, they have dominated the U.S. scene for decades. Now, Insomniac Europe is poised to take things to the next level, with two of the most iconic European events — Amsterdam Music Festival (AMF) and A State of Trance (ASOT)— set to expand under their umbrella.
A Big Move with ALDA: The 50% Acquisition
Back in 2018, Insomniac made a bold move that signaled its intentions for global domination when they acquired 50% of ALDA, a leading European dance music event production company based in Amsterdam. ALDA, known for producing some of Europe’s most celebrated events like AMF and ASOT, had already established itself as a key player in the international Dance music scene. By joining forces, Insomniac and ALDA created a powerhouse capable of pushing the boundaries of dance music experiences even further.
This partnership was seen as a natural progression for both companies, with Insomniac Founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella stating, “By aligning our businesses, we can bring the world-class experiences that both Insomniac and ALDA are known for to the U.S. and exciting new places around the world”. Allan Hardenberg, ALDA’s co-founder, echoed this sentiment, calling the partnership a thrilling new chapter for both brands.
AMF and ASOT: European Dance Titans
With Insomniac Europe now officially in the picture, two major festivals will be at the forefront: AMF and ASOT. AMF, held annually in Amsterdam, is the largest indoor Dance music festival in the Netherlands, drawing thousands of fans for an unforgettable experience. A State of Trance (ASOT), the world’s leading Trance event founded by Armin van Buuren, has built a legacy of delivering euphoric, high-energy performances. These events, under Insomniac’s influence, will continue to grow, potentially expanding into new territories and offering even more immersive fan experiences.
What’s Next for Insomniac Europe?
While details on the full scope of Insomniac Europe remain under wraps, their launch is an exciting step for fans across the continent. Insomniac’s impressive track record of producing over 2,000 events worldwide, including EDC in Japan, Mexico, and China, suggests that Europe is in for something truly special. Stay tuned for more announcements as Insomniac Europe prepares to shake up the festival scene.

With his awe-inspiring dubstep and bass music production, Soltan has dazzled the masses time and time again. His new Dustinations EP only stokes the wonderment, providing us with five festival-ready bangers.
Out now on NGHTMRE and SLANDER's Gud Vibrations label, Dustinations is Soltan's first EP since 2016's Jadugar, though he's released no shortage of singles and collaborations since. "Serpent King" kicks off the project out on a raucous note, its punchy drums and acid-fueled bass promising a wild ride ahead.
Then comes the titular "Dustinations" and "Masyaf," where Soltan dips his toes into the turbulent waters of bass house. He seamlessly transitions the second drop of both back to his signature dubstep style, showcasing his formidable versatility in the studio.
"Babel Bug" finds him exploring a more languid sound, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's any gentler. Chopped and muddled samples saturate the mix while grimy, textured 808s propel through like toxic sludge. Though a standout on its own, it seems to operate as a segue into the EP's final track, "Blinking Stars," which acts as a jolt strong enough to electrify listeners into a stupor.
Listen to Dustinations below and find the new EP on streaming platforms here.

End Overdose is leading a hi-tech charge in the fight against drug overdoses, unveiling a cutting-edge e-training tool that promises to make a significant impact at EDM events.
The nonprofit, one of EDM.com's best industry leaders of 2022, says the initiative will "revolutionize overdose response training" at the concerts and festivals in which their teams are providing education. Dubbed "Narcats World," the e-learning resource arrives in the midst of a growing need for medical preparedness at large-scale events, where limited onsite resources can leave attendees vulnerable.
Harm reduction remains one of today's most timely flashpoints in the electronic dance music community and its festivals, which remain heavily scrutinized due to its inextricable link to drug use. Synthetic opioids like fentanyl are the primary driver of overdose deaths in the United States, according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration, citing CDC data.
End Overdose believes "Narcats World" will democratize training by making it more accessible while improving retention and preparedness. Its deployment is designed to educate more ravers while boosting their confidence in managing real-time overdose situations.
The organization says "Narcats World" can increase retention by up to 75%. They've gamified the platform to offer rewards to participants, and incorporated narrative storytelling and "multi-sensory" specs like haptic feedback to keep them engaged.
It's important to note that the e-learning tool is still in its development phase and End Overdose has not formally rolled it out to events at the time of this writing.

Daring them to confront their fears, HI-LO and ZHU's new collaboration "Afraid To Live" envelops listeners in the heart of the techno underworld.
The inquisitive repetition of the track's hook, "Are you afraid to live?" serves as both a challenge and an invitation, immersing us in the unrelenting rhythms that define a powerful techno anthem in-waiting.
Perfectly capturing the raw, primal energy of the after-hours world in which techno thrives, Oliver Heldens, under his HI-LO alias, leans fully into his underground edge by producing driving basslines and thumping percussion. He pushes the track into ominous territory alongside ZHU's own techno alias, Blacklizt, whose hypnotic touch imbues its signature allure.
Known for bringing introspective depth to his songwriting, ZHU's influence on "Afraid To Live" is unmistakable, drawing a subtle connection to the spiritual journey of his recent GRACE album, which hit streaming services earlier this year. The track is set to make a splashy debut at this year's Amsterdam Dance Event, where HI-LO is set to perform at the annual Dockyard Festival on October 19th.

Malaa's Alter Ego enigmatically introduced himself just last month, and the full-throttle debut release from the masked producer's doppelgänger is out now.
Malaa has always skillfully balanced mystery with hard-hitting house that engages fans and keeps them on their feet. He dives even deeper into the unknown with his new single, "Simiya."
Teaming up with Dutch dancehall powerhouse Kalibwoy, the track is a maximalist marvel. Kalibwoy’s spitfire lyricism slices through the mix like a blade, matching the heart-pounding production. The thundering basslines hit with bone-rattling intensity while distortion cranks everything to eleven, evoking a sense of chaos that feels both otherworldly and unstoppable.
Each twist and turn in the track feels like venturing deeper into the labyrinth of Malaa’s twisted creativity. There’s a rebellious spirit that both reflects and amplifies his defiance of stylistic boundaries. It’s clear Malaa's Alter Ego is angling to amplify the most primal elements of the balaclava-clad producer's creative identity.

In a recent podcast interview, Dillon Francis opened up about sobriety and how the lifestyle affords him self-assurance and creativity.
Speaking with The XLNT Show, a podcast for discussions surrounding electronic dance music culture and production, Francis highlighted the snowball effect of drinking, especially when performing multiple nights in a row. In his case, the hangovers lasted just as long, which proved detrimental to his work.
"I don't want to have to have something to make me feel like I'm good at my job," he explained. That sentiment, he added, ultimately led to him to adopting sobriety.
With each sober performance, Francis found his confidence levels rising as the "awkward" feelings dissipated. He says he became more comfortable standing in front of the masses as well as getting on the mic to speak to them. "I'm at such a better place," he proclaimed.
Francis said he's now approaching three years of sobriety and "can't imagine going back."

RÜFÜS DU SOL's new album, Inhale / Exhale, feels like a sonic landscape as vast and unpredictable as the lives that shaped it.
The band's fifth album finds them imbuing their emotional core with even more depth while chasing the horizons of what their music can become. After the dust of the pandemic settled, the trio, who found themselves now scattered between the sunny shores of San Diego and Miami, chose to rebuild.
And in doing so, they found creative freedom like never before, leading to the perfect storm of atmospheric electronica. Inhale / Exhale is akin to the release of a long-held breath—a rush of sound that moves from intimate whispers to roaring crescendos.
RÜFÜS DU SOL.c/o Press
Opening with "Inhale" and "Lately," they waste no time pulling you under. The tracks pulse with vibrant synths as though they’ve fed their sound through a prism. Lyrically, they delve into familiar territory with themes of love as salvation and a means to destruction alike.
That emotional duality threads the album, but nowhere is it seemingly more apparent than in "Pressure." The band builds tension like a ticking time bomb, layering distorted synths and jagged percussion to create a slow-building catharsis. The song is mechanical, but in that restraint lies its brilliance. Unafraid to confront the weight of disconnection, it's a track that mirrors the band's own serpentine journey to influence.
But even as they push deeper into these thematic territories, RÜFÜS haven’t lost their gift for crafting festival anthems, either. "Music Is Better" channels pure, hands-in-the-air euphoria, built on a foundation of lush synth layers and uplifting percussion. It’s a celebration of the kind of connection evoked by endless sunsets and twinkly summer nights, yet beneath that surface-level bliss lies a deeper reflection on the power of music to heal and unite—an unspoken theme that runs throughout the project.
Elsewhere, there's moments in Inhale / Exhale, like in "Edge of the Earth," where you can almost feel the weight of the band's geographical separation. But instead of fracture, it’s given the album a sense of vastness. There’s a certain kind of restlessness that speaks to the endless flights and temporary studios in Ibiza, Austin and LA where the album was born. In these scattered moments, the group managed to reconnect—not just with each other, but with the unfiltered sense of creativity that's always defined their music.
As the album draws to a close with "Exhale," it's as if the whole journey collapses in on itself, marking a moment of quiet reflection while reminding us that even in the loudest storms, there’s always stillness to follow.
Listen to Inhale / Exhale below and find the new album on streaming platforms here.

Anyma has revealed the whole lineup for his innovative residency, “The End of Genesys,” at the technologically advanced Sphere in Las Vegas.
From December 27, 2024, until January 11, 2025, the residency will feature a carefully selected roster of electronic music’s best performers. Each one of them will add their own flair to go with Anyma’s creative ‘Genesys’ performance. Let’s explore the outstanding lineup Anyma will be accompanied on this revolutionary trip.

December 27, 2024: Dixon and Mike Dean
Starting with two heavyweights of their own scenes, the residency opens with great force.
Berlin-based DJ and producer Dixon has long been a headman in the underground electronic music scene. Renowned for his deftly created, expressive sets spanning several subgenres of house and techno, Dixon’s involvement sets a high benchmark for the opening night of the residency. His capacity for narrative-driven performances fits the immersive character of the Sphere exactly and promises a trip that will enthrall viewers all through.
Joining Dixon is Mike Dean, a name that some electronic music purists may find shocking but delights others familiar with his boundary-pushing work. Working with musicians like Kanye West and Travis Scott, Dean has molded the sound of hip-hop and pop music over decades as a famed producer and multi-instrumentalist. His recent trips into electronic music creation and live performance have highlighted a special fusion of modern production methods with analog synthesizers. Dean’s participation brings a cross-genre experimenting element that exactly captures the residency’s forward-looking attitude.

Dec 28, 2024: Chris Avantgarde B2B Rebūke and Amelie Lens
Three musicians representing the more rigorous, darker side of electronic music gather on the second night.
Amelie Lens is rising quickly to become among techno’s most sought-after DJs and producers. Her unrelenting, high-energy sets have made her a festival favorite; her productions on Second State and her own EXHALE imprint have helped to define the sound of modern techno. Lens is the ideal fit for the Sphere’s immersive environment because of her mesmerizing, driving rhythms, which allow her to command enormous audiences.
The evening also boasts an interesting back-to-back set between Chris Avantgarde and Rebūke. Renowned for his cinematic style of techno and house, Chris Avantgarde gives his DJ performances and creations grandeur and passion. Conversely, Rebūke is revered for his unvarnished, forceful approach that combines aspects of techno, house, and rave.
December 29, 2024: Charlotte de Witte and Cassian B2B Kevin de Varies
The third evening of the residency finds a mix of melodic house and hard-hitting techno.
Among the most identifiable personalities in modern techno is Charlotte de Witte. Her uncompromising sound—which features dark, atmospheric soundscapes and pummeling rhythms—has made her a headliner at big events and venues all around. De Witte’s set at the Sphere is definitely a highlight; her understated yet strong aesthetic fits the modern sound system of the venue.
For a B2B conference, Cassian and Kevin de Vries make an interesting combo. Australian producer and DJ Cassian is well-known for his expressive, melodic house and techno style. Kevin de Vries, meanwhile, has become well-known for his original mix of techno and trance influence.
Dec 30, 2024: Rampa and Parisi
The roster moves toward the deeper, more introspective side of electronic music as the residency draws near the New Year.
One-third of the praised Keinemusik group, Rampa offers the Sphere his elegant fusion of house and techno. Rampa is well-known for his sophisticated productions and deftly created DJ performances; his music frequently has an emotional depth that would fit the immersive arena.
The Italian team, Parisi consists of brothers Marco and Giampaolo Parisi, who contribute their own musical viewpoint to the evening. Parisi’s concert looks to be among the most varied and boundary-pushing of the residency, with a sound that combines elements of techno, pop, and world music and draws from their classical music background.
December 31, 2024: Massano and Adriatique
Two performers renowned for their capacity to produce spectacular dancefloor experiences come together on New Year’s Eve.
Masters of melodic house and techno, the Swiss pair Adriatique has made a name for themselves with their X brand, which features a narrative arc and emotional resonance.
Rising talent Massano matches Adriatique’s dreamy, haunting approach to melodic techno. Massano participation on this important evening of the residency reflects Anyma’s dedication to presenting both seasoned names and fresh, fascinating potential.

January 1, 2025: Tiësto and Argy
The first day of 2025 marks the residence turning toward more mainstream-friendly sounds while keeping its cutting-edge credibility.
A real icon of electronic dance music, Tiësto needs minimal introduction. Over three decades of work have let Tiësto constantly change his sound from trance pioneer to pop-crossover hitmaker. He fits the spectacle of the Sphere naturally because of his capacity to interact with large audiences.
Argy’s presence guarantees that even as the residency draws a larger audience, it stays anchored in legitimate, forward-looking dance music. Known for his powerful DJ sets and creations ranging from deep, dubby house to pounding techno.
January 10, 2025: Sebastian Ingrosso and Script
The residency keeps getting interesting.
One-third of the great Swedish House Mafia, Sebastian Ingrosso delivers to the Sphere his stadium-sized sound. For almost ten years, Ingrosso’s productions and DJ sets— Solo or as part of SHM—have defined the electronic music scene. With the presence at Anyma’s Residency, Sebastian Ingrosso has announced the launch of a new project, and shift on his musical style.
Combining with Ingrosso is Script, a rising star in the techno and melodic house scenes. Ingrosso’s more maximalist approach is interestingly counterpointed by Script’s emotional, story-driven approach to producing and DJing, therefore guaranteeing a night of varied and intriguing music.

January 11, 2025: CamelPhat and Layton Giordani
The residency ends with a lineup capturing the whole gamut of modern house and techno.
One of the most popular crossover artists in dance music, CamelPhat—the Grammy-nominated Liverpool pair—have emerged.  Their set looks to be a suitable ending for the residency, bridging the divide between creative integrity and financial success.
Representing the forward edge of modern techno, Layton Giordani finishes off the lineup. Giordani’s strong, driving sound on Adam Beyer’s Drumcode label combines elements of traditional techno, trance, and even some EBM cues.
Anyma and the team behind “The End of Genesys” residency have produced a program reflecting the whole range of modern electronic music in arranging this varied and star-studded roster.
This residency is likely to be a turning point in the history of electronic music events when combined with the modern technologies of the Sphere and Anyma’s creative audio-visual presentation.

Producing house music with bass that bites back, Merow has released her debut EP on Martin Garrix's STMPD RCRDS.
The Dutch DJ and producer pulls no punches in BASS RELATED VOL. 1, which features three tracks. Dripping with adrenaline, each one pulsates with dark, driving rhythms tailored for peak-time dancefloor moments.
From the animalistic energy of "The Moshpit" to the raw, unrelenting rhythms of "To The Beat," Merow's gritty production grabs you by the throat and drags you into the heart of a warehouse rave. While firmly rooted in bass house, she incorporates subtle influences from UK garage music, adding depth and texture.
The EP's cohesive sound demonstrates a clear vision for Merow's musical identity. She says the project is the upshot of her first international summer tour, a personal triumph that's led to her most creative work yet.
"Working on this EP during my tour was such a special process for me," Merow said in a statement shared with EDM.com. "I had the chance to experiment with new sounds, combining bass elements with different grooves. One of the most exciting things was creating a tempo-change track with a UK Garage influence, which was something I hadn't done before."

Last week, we kicked off our Black History Month series with an insightful extract from Join The Future: Bleep Techno and the Birth of British Bass Music by Matt Anniss. This week, we’re moving forward to an era that defined a whole new wave of bass music: dubstep.
For week two, we’re proud to present an extract from Drumz Of The South: The Dubstep Years (2004-2007) by Georgina Cook. This iconic photography book was the first to capture the early days of dubstep in stunning detail, featuring over 200 photos that chronicle the scene from underground nights like FWD>> at Plastic People and DMZ, to pirate radio stations like Rinse FM. Cook’s lens captured the rise of pioneering producers, DJs, and MCs like Skream, Benga, Mala & Coki, Burial, Loefah, Plastician, Kode9, Hatcha & Crazy D, Skepta, Wiley, and Sgt Pokes.
This collection brings us face-to-face with the raw energy and vibe of the early dubstep scene, and we’re thrilled to share it with you. Take a look the visual history of a movement that forever changed the sound of bass.

“As a child of an immigrant, you are born into community. It’s within your DNA and imprinted in your soul at every family gathering and with every morsel of food. It’s no surprise that it seeps into your approach to business. A life spent navigating the opinions of aunties, uncles and extended family makes you hyper-aware of the power of listening and the magic that occurs when you bring people together and the bar of excellence is set high.
When people ask me what I do for a living I used to tell them I build, nurture and grow communities but if I’m honest the word “community” doesn’t sit well with me anymore. It’s become a buzzword for brands to sell products by people who’ve never really been part of a community but are great at pushing numbers around. So, if anything these days I’m more concerned with building movements that empower people to bring change to themselves and by doing so, the people around them. Movements that can exist without the help of outsiders and are self-sufficient, much like Run Dem Crew, which is the movement I’m most known for. An Urban Run Collective I founded in 2007, it has since morphed into a global movement much like the music and scenes that came out of the basement incubator we fondly refer to as Plastic People.”

Electronic music intertwines with the heart-racing thrill of competition in Midnight In Amsterdam's latest release, "Time."
The track is a one-of-a-kind rallying cry, an anthem crafted to echo through both nightclubs and arenas where the basslines and the gameplay are equally fierce. The production trio's new release sees them teaming up on an official anthem with the esports organization mCon, who presently hold the championship Benelux title in League of Legends.
Embodying the rush of victory and the frenzy of a packed dancefloor, "Time" is a genre-defying storm of sound. Midnight In Amsterdam pair tiptoeing melodic keys with hammering basslines, driving the track forward with weighty production that feels as consequential as a final showdown. The song's whispered vocals speak in hushed tones, as if quietly affirming that victory is not just possible but inevitable.
This collaboration has been a long time coming, with Midnight In Amsterdam pouring over the project since 2022.
"It’s an honor to be the first esports team in the Benelux to release an official anthem," mCon's Director, Ruben Been, said in a press release shared with EDM.com. "While there have been many collaborations between the esports and dance industries before, creating an anthem is truly groundbreaking. We’re excited to continue working with Midnight in Amsterdam, blending the best of both worlds through music and entertainment, and exploring even more exciting possibilities in the future."

If connection is measured in BPM, Hardwell and Outsiders' new single "Falling In Love" would break the barometer.
Out now on Hardwell's own label, Revealed Recordings, the track interpolates the ageless lyrics of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling in Love." This hardstyle behemoth, a high-energy fusion of classic romance and modern electronic music, doesn't just nod to Elvis—it grabs the King's 1961 classic by the sequined lapels and hurls it onto the mainstage.
"Falling In Love" showcases Hardwell and Outsiders' skills in balancing nostalgia with contemporary sound design, creating an engaging tension by highlighting the contrast between the tender sentiment of the lyrics and the track's relentless rhythms. Those iconic words take on new life when entwined with the Dutch compatriots' soaring synths and distorted kick drums, which run roughshod through a euphoric drop.
While it may not win over hardstyle skeptics, fans of the genre will find plenty to appreciate. The song's infectious energy and memorable hook are likely to make it a staple at international EDM festivals as 2024 comes to a close.
