Billed as the world's largest Halloween dance music festival, Escape marked its spooky return to the hallowed grounds of the NOS Events Center last weekend with a few frightfully fun surprises.

Known as one of Insomniac Events' most immersive experiences, the two-day event included a new layout and expanded footprint to its sinister San Bernardino location. Some of these changes included the expanded Sewer District, the movement of the Crazy Town area, the addition of the Voodoo Village, and a modification of the Wicked Woods stage.

Additionally, this year's event marked the beginning of Insomniac's partnership with the beloved electronic music brand, Boiler Room. Held inside The Cauldron, the warehouse venue included the cultural curator's signature 360° atmosphere for two days of multi-genre productions.

The 2024 edition of Escape would also be the last time attendees would be able to party with one of the festival's most iconic features, The Grimm.
The giant puppet skeleton, which overlooked the decks inside the main stage for years, is finally being laid to rest after years of eerily commanding the venue's megastructure. In a post to the event's Instagram page, the company revealed it would replace The Grimm and return to its Psycho Circus theme for 2025.

The Grimm was just one of the many stages held inside the extensive layout at the world's largest Halloween dance music festival. From massive race tracks to intimate art cars, each distinct stage was home to a variety of artists from all corners of the electronic dance space.
Take a peek at a few select snapshots from our favorite performances from Escape Halloween 2024.

In a world where vocals often play second fiddle to the beat, DUSK, HAYLA's highly anticipated debut album, flips the script.
From start to finish, the project presents an intimate journey through vulnerability, heartache and triumph, all while tethered to pulsating dance rhythms. HAYLA's voice becomes the central force, an instrument as dynamic and commanding as any synth in its own right.
'It’s amazing to work with so many of the collaborators I’ve worked with, but when you go at it alone it does feel quite exposing," HAYLA tells EDM.com. "Because of the audience from the DJs I’ve worked with potentially coming over to listen to my music, I hope I live up to people’s expectations... I’m so fortunate to have these audiences listen to my music and support me."
"I’m really proud of what I’ve created... It’s something, for once, where I can say, 'I have something tangibly mine' and I hope people get to know me more."
From the opening notes of "Only I," DUSK makes one thing clear: HAYLA is here to claim her place as both a vocal powerhouse and a compelling songwriter. The album kicks off with a somber tone as gentle arpeggios bubble beneath her soaring voice, delivering a heart-wrenching yet resolute message. It’s a delicate balance, one that showcases her gift for turning pain into beauty.
Elsewhere, HAYLA stuns with "Freefall," a track that encapsulates the emotional core of the album through throbbing basslines and shimmering synths. Co-produced with Grammy-nominated musician Carl Ryden, the song navigates love's most precarious moments in a surefire highlight that feels like both a confession and a catharsis.
The depth of "Freefall" is beautifully contrasted by the airiness of another standout track, "Visions of You."
"The song story behind it is really when you’re starstruck by infatuation and the thought of that one person that gets you through the day," HAYLA explains. "That one person that you can’t wait to see again that makes you feel good. It was a really fun thing to write. It’s probably the happiest track on the album."
HAYLA.c/o Press
But HAYLA's strength lies not only in her ability to captivate with anthems of heartache. She also offers profound moments of introspection, such as on the hauntingly beautiful titular track, "DUSK." Produced and written entirely by HAYLA herself, the album's closer invites us into a sonic twilight where languid strings build as her vocals hum in ethereal waves, creating a dreamlike soundscape that drifts into darkness.
It’s a track meant for quiet reflection, best enjoyed, as HAYLA herself suggests, just before the world fades into night.
"I won’t lie, I was incredibly nervous about showing that side of myself," she tells us. "It’s something I’ve done behind closed doors to broaden my musical horizons and to have a more integral part of ownership of a track. I would really like to do more production. Working with so many amazing producers, to say what you want a track to sound like or integrally be a part of a track is amazing, but to actually do it myself felt like something I wanted to experiment with."
"It’s a completely experimental piece," she continues. "It’s an instrumental piece. I suppose its more of a vibey piece. It was something I could actually, for once, put a bit of a, 'This is my body of work' and try to get what’s in my head out into the open. Experimentally, that freedom was great to do.”
Fans have more to look forward to from HAYLA as she's set to take the stage at LA's Roxy Theatre for her debut headline show on December 4th. In the meantime, listen to DUSK below and find the new album on streaming platforms here.

Zingara, bass music's spiritual sojourner, opens a new passageway through the cosmos with her new EP, For The Crystal Children.
The conceptual EP's four tracks place life and time under a microscope, all kicked off by Zingara's personal indoctrination through the title titular track, "For The Crystal Children."
"When it was time to start brainstorming new ideas, this concept popped into my head," Zingara said in a statement. "The Crystal Children are souls that volunteer to come to Earth to help the collective learn to love and heal."
From there, the EP bursts into a kaleidoscope of color and sound, with Maurice Brown and Steller joining the expedition. An undeniable highlight of the EP is when both join Zingara for its final track, "Rhythm of Life," which is saturated with jazzy saxophone melodies and the sounds of dripping water, mixed and distilled into an otherworldly potion.
Zingara's is now embarking on her headlining "For The Crystal Children Tour," which kicks off today in Urbana, Illinois, with 14 other US locations to follow. Tour dates and tickets can be found here.

It's not every day you hear rap icons on mosh pit-inducing dubstep tracks, but Crankdat and Juicy J are here with their heavy-hitting collaboration, "Open The Pit."
The pair recently debuted the single together at LA's Hollywood Palladium, where Crankdat sold out a doubleheader in which he said he "accomplished the biggest goal [he] had set for 8 years."
The bass music heavyweight, who is gearing up to debut an ambitious stage setup in 2025, provided a fittingly frenzied atmosphere. He then intensified the anticipation to a fever pitch by playing "Open The Pit" at North Coast Music Festival and Lost Lands.
The track operates like this: while Juicy J hypnotizes us with the line, "When you hear this song you gon' open up the pit," Crankdat brings about that prophecy with an emphatic dubstep drop.
"This song has been three years in the making and getting Juicy J on it was a dream come true," said Crankdat. "Along with the record we are also releasing a music video that has been a labor of love to plan out and help create, and I can’t wait for everyone to see and hear it."
The music video is inspired by Grand Theft Auto, which is sure to have the chronically online asking, "We got Crankdat GTA before GTA 6?"

Hypnotic bass is how Phrva communicates that his reign is just beginning—and while listening to his debut EP Crave, we are all subjects.
Crave begins with "Is It All," a mesmerizing track in which gentle vocals float amongst a sea of dark bass. The track's refrain, continuously repeated, conjures a somber introspection. "Mind" comes to bat next, uplifting listeners with a lively trap beat that pinballs a trilling melody.
Finally, the EP's last track reminds us what Phrva always wants: "More." That sentiment is stated throughout the track as a cliffhanger of sorts, leaving us wanting the same.
"Crave is my first original project, and I hope that it shows the scope of what I’m aiming to achieve with my music," said Phrva, who is set to join Tape B on tour as support for the producer's upcoming Reno and Denver shows. "At the core, Phrva is all about following a feeling and groove and not overthinking it, and the tracks on this project were all created with that mentality."

Like stepping through a wormhole back to the golden age of MTV, Mathame's new single "Discovery Channel" updates an ageless Bloodhound Gang anthem with a modern techno twist.
Out now on Republic and Casablanca Records, the track pulses with the intensity of a late-night dancefloor drenched in nostalgia. Joining forces with Lyke, the Italian duo has taken Bloodhound Gang's 1999 hit "The Bad Touch" and mutated it into a darker, headier vessel where the gleeful absurdity of the original meets Mathame's shadowy atmospherics. Remembered for its cheeky lyrics and provocative refrain ("So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel"), the original became an MTV mainstay, celebrating carefree irreverence and playful energy.
Mathame's interpretation brings the instantly recognizable hook to life with a melodic techno twist, luring listeners with the familiar lyrics only to send them spiraling into a tidal wave of club-shaking synths. Synth stabs surge skyward while the rhythmic thrum of Mathame's bassline hurtles forward.
Since debuting "Discovery Channel" at ADE, the track is becoming a crowd favorite in their performances. "It immediately became a hypnotic, magical piece in our sets," the duo said, adding that its evolution from cheeky pop hit to techno anthem felt instinctive.

When Champion, Four Tet and Skrillex join forces, they don’t wait for an invitation.
"Talk To Me," their new collaborative single featuring Naisha, slips right into the bloodstream with a captivating, bass-heavy beat and entrancing vocals, setting off a heady mix of self-assured swagger and introspective groove that's primed to invigorate dancefloors everywhere.
Melding the creative instincts of Champion, Four Tet and Skrillex with Naisha's impressive vocal range, the track simultaneously feels both immediate and enduring. Champion brings his rhythmic mastery to the mix, crafting a slinky groove that brims with underground grit while Four Tet’s signature experimental touch adds an infectious bounce. All the while, the track's powerful bassline hums and churns with unmistakable Skrillex heft.
Naisha's vocals then float in, her ethereal falsetto pulling us in with a delicate yet direct "talk to me" hook that drips with allure. Her vocals shift seamlessly from angelic lilt to hip-hop-inflected grit, a compelling tension between sultriness and self-confidence.
"Talk To Me" marks another stroke of genius in the collaborative timeline of Four Tet and Skrillex. Their previous collaborations, including the atmospheric "glow" from Fred again..'s recent album, saw the pair testing new sonic boundaries, threading textured soundscapes with a distinctly uplifting flair. The impact of their collaborative history isn’t lost on "Talk To Me," which had become a crowd favorite after plays during Four Tet’s Lollapalooza and Portola sets, among others.

In the high-stakes world of electronic music, where the demands are as relentless as the rewards are exhilarating, Kompass Music Group is charting a course in artist management grounded in mental wellbeing and community.
Founded by industry stalwarts Blake Coppelson, Jay Rogovin, Alec Donkin and Jade Gaines, Kompass, which was named EDM.com's best artist management firm of 2023, is redefining success by prioritizing artists' creative freedom and growth from a holistic perspective. With a roster as diverse and dynamic as Vintage Culture, Of The Trees, UZ, Carola and more, the team understands that nurturing mental health is essential for sustaining lasting careers.
Integral to this mission is Kompass' collaboration with 4 O’clock Consulting, a partnership with mental health advocates Kristin Karas and Stacey Forrester. Together, they bring a thoughtful, structured approach to support the individuals behind the music, helping to fortify a culture of care and responsibility. Their alliance echoes recent findings on the power of electronic dance music to enhance mental health, underscoring the genre’s unique capacity to uplift and provide solace.
Kompass manifested this ethos in a spectacular way at the 2024 Amsterdam Dance Event, where the company hosted an intimate boat party alongside NOISIA's influential label, VISION Recordings. Transforming a decommissioned industrial vessel into a floating warehouse, the atmospheric event featured What So Not, Opiuo, Skeler and more, whose performances resonated with the visceral, authentic energy that Kompass cultivates so well.
David Giovannini, Mouna Dif and Franz Hilberath, three of the seasoned members of Kompass' team, share a vision for artist management that transcends the traditional to champion careers marked not only by achievement, but also by resilience, purpose and community.
View the original article to see embedded media.
EDM.com: Kompass is all about shaking up the status quo—what was the moment you realized the traditional artist management model wasn’t working, and how did that spark the creation of Kompass?
David Giovannini: I wouldn't necessarily say that the traditional artist management model wasn't working, as much as the model wasn't working for those of us who came together to form KMG. The formation came together by us managers collectively pulling from personal experiences, both on the business and community involvement sides. All of us have a deep relationship with music, and we have actively participated in the creation and curation of music communities based amongst genres we love. Approaching business with the knowledge and experience as passionate event-attendees, as well as, having formed deep, life-long relationships due to music, has allowed us to navigate the artist/management relationship from a place of commonality.
Mouna Dif: When I joined the company a little over a year ago, I was drawn to its mission of shaking up the traditional artist management model. I’ve always felt that the old ways of managing artists didn’t fully support their creative freedom or adapt to the ever evolving industry. Kompass stood out because it embraces innovation and puts the artist at the center, helping them take control of their narrative and explore new ways to connect with their audience.
Franz Hilberath: I really connected with Kompass' commitment to inclusivity in building a management team, the genuine care for artists and team members as individuals, and the overarching goal to champion authentic, unique artistry. This inclusive and caring approach was a game changer for me—it highlighted that the traditional, often transactional management models were no longer sufficient in supporting true artistic freedom and personal growth.
EDM.com: Kompass has partnered with 4 O’clock Consulting, known for their work in areas like risk reduction and mental health. What led you to collaborate with experts from outside the music industry, and how has that shaped Kompass’ approach to artist management?
David Giovannini: Our collective experiences as participants within the "music scene" has given us insight as to why conversations around harm reduction, mental health, and the music industry are imperative. In life, we have all gained so much through the sub-communities within electronic music. Those experiences led us to understand that these communities function best when we lean onto and learn from one another. 4 O'Clock helped us collectively form Kompass' core values, which we believe are the five most-important pillars to how we operate as artist managers. They're an integral branch of KMG that offers direct consultation and stewardship with every artist and manager involved with the company.
Mouna Dif: Our partnership with 4 O’clock Consulting goes beyond supporting artists—it extends to the people working behind the scenes, like managers, who play a crucial role in shaping an artist’s career. As a woman manager pushing boundaries and advocating for women artists, their support has been vital to my well-being and that of the artists I represent. In a male-dominated industry where preconceptions still exist, the battles we face are tougher and can be a real strain. 4 O’clock Consulting has been instrumental in helping both my artists and myself navigate these challenges and continue to move forward.
Franz Hilberath: The collaboration with 4 O'clock Consulting reflects our approach to providing more comprehensive resources for managers, who often have thankless, exhausting, and sometimes maddening roles. They check in on us not just as professionals but as people, fostering a holistic workplace environment where I feel supported both personally and professionally. This partnership has been crucial in nurturing a supportive, team-oriented culture at Kompass.
EDM.com: If Kompass could design the future of live events, what would that look like? How do you envision your artists connecting with fans in more meaningful ways beyond just the music?
David Giovannini: As managers, we are diplomats of the creative vision. If the artist dreams it, our mission is to build it to the highest caliber of our ability. Whether it be a dark, intimate room with sweat dripping from the ceilings, or an over-the-top production meant to tingle every human sense - we want to make it happen.
Artist-fan connection has to be consensual on both sides. An artist has to want to take that interaction "beyond just the music," and the fans have to want to engage and participate with what the artist puts out there. In the end, authenticity is key.
Mouna Dif: My vision for the future of live events involves creating intimate and unique experiences in memorable locations. I imagine smaller-scale gatherings where artists and audiences can connect authentically, allowing fans to form lasting memories. Offering exclusive merch and unique elements would make each event special, ensuring these experiences go beyond just the music and foster meaningful connections
Franz Hilberath: Building on what Mouna mentioned, I see a future where underground acts create more unique, personal experiences. While commercial, mainstream events are at a peak, there’s a growing demand for authenticity and less commodified experiences. The future lies in intimate, memorable events that allow fans and artists to connect on a deeper level.
EDM.com: Success in the music industry can be fleeting. How does Kompass help its artists build not just a momentary buzz, but a career that withstands the test of time?
David Giovannini: Everything I've mentioned - shared experience, deep passion, creative vision, community engagement, mental health checks. All of these elements are the kindling to the fire one needs to take on "the industry." Pair all of that with a trusted team that is in place to understand/refine/accomplish, and ideally, that will lead to a long, fruitful career. Also, sometimes you just have to ride the ride.
Mouna Dif: We focus on long-term success by nurturing each artist's unique creativity. Instead of using a one-size-fits-all approach, we develop customized plans that cater to each artist individual needs & wishes. We also understand the importance of a balanced career and avoid relying solely on revenue streams like touring. Most importantly, as the music industry evolves with AI and algorithms and new technologies continue to erode artists' streaming revenue, while touring becomes increasingly costly in the current economic crisis post-COVID, we guide our artists in diversifying their work to build sustainable careers that can withstand the test of time.
Franz Hilberath: We focus on fostering long-term brand and business health. Our approach helps create a sustainable brand and artistry that supports artists in using their careers as a vehicle to progress through life and achieve personal milestones, much like others in more traditional careers. We actively audit, manage, and improve their brand, business, and personal lives—these are the pillars of our long-term support strategy.
EDM.com: What’s an unconventional lesson you've learned from managing artists that most people wouldn’t expect, and how has it shaped how Kompass operates today?
David Giovannini: The nature of our work allows us the freedom to travel, visit venues, connect with teams and explore new cities around the world. KMG encourages our managers to accompany our clients at important/unique events and connect with our peers beyond that next Zoom call. This has allowed us to form a global web of resources and relationships. Also - airtag your luggage and equipment!
Mouna Dif: An unconventional lesson I've learned is the power of embracing vulnerability. Many assume artists should always project confidence, but authenticity creates deeper connections with fans. This has shaped Kompass by encouraging our artists to share their true selves in their music and interactions. We foster an environment where vulnerability is seen as a strength, leading to genuine engagement and lasting relationships.
Franz Hilberath: An unconventional lesson has been the power of flexibility. In a field where rigidity can be the norm, learning to adapt to the unexpected—whether it's changing industry trends, personal artist needs, or even global events like the pandemic—has taught us the value of being nimble and responsive. This flexibility has shaped Kompass to be resilient, ensuring that we and our artists can thrive in any circumstance.
