deadmau5 Teases New Simulator Game Starring His Beloved Cat, Meowingtons

deadmau5 has always been known for his tech-savvy innovation, but his latest project might be his most unconventional yet. The influential electronic music producer has teased Meowingtons Simulator, a ragdoll-style dancing game starring his beloved cat of the same name.
Taking to social media, deadmau5 hyped up the forthcoming release with an in-game sneak peek. The gameplay preview showcases Meowingtons roaming the digital dancefloor of Oberhasli Nightclub, complete with the ability to jump on DJ decks and disrupt the party.
Players can control Meowingtons' head and tail independently, creating outrageous dance routines as the club lights pulse to the music. The game is all about embracing absurdity, so there’s no wrong way to make your cat groove. Additionally, a multiplayer mode will allow you to host up to seven friends for a virtual dance-off, complete with voice and text chat.
deadmau5, who developed the game with Oberhasli Studios, has poured his love for tech and his playful sense of humor into the project. It also functions as a de facto homage to Meowingtons, who tragically died in August 2023.
"We've worked particularly hard to include the most random and absurd achievements," he said.

Chris Stussy Defends Smartphone Use at Shows

As more and more DJs speak out against smartphone use at shows, Chris Stussy has defended it.
Appearing on The Will Clarke Podcast for a recent interview, the Dutch house music virtuoso addressed prevalent concerns in the global electronic music community about excessive smartphone usage in nightlife.
"That's just the new generation, they just want to capture a moment," Stussy said. "But not just a moment—they want to capture every moment that they feel like, 'I was a part of this.'"
Stussy drew comparisons to expensive sporting events, saying that if people are paying high prices for the occasion, they'll likely want to film it.
The DJ's comments lock horns with anti-device sentiments made by many artists in 2024, like the influential Bob Sinclar, who recently took to social media to reprimand smartphone usage in clubs after a particularly vexing event he called the "worst gig" of his career. Other prominent artists to lament the trend include Damian Lazarus, James Hype and MEDUZA, Barry Can't Swim and WAVEDASH.
The ongoing debate illuminates the fine line we walk between capturing lasting memories and robbing ourselves of authentic experiences from behind a screen. A recent study found that 55% of live music fans prioritize recording footage of a performance over being present in the moment.

As we gear up to close out the year, there’s no better place to reflect on everything that’s happened than NEON Countdown. This year’s edition is especially exciting, as Martin Garrix is set to headline with an exclusive New Year’s Eve set. For any NEON Countdown fan, this is massive—Garrix has only performed at Neon once before, back on New Year’s Day, so having him lead us into the new year is nothing short of magic.

As a loyal attendee since 2019, I can say without hesitation that NEON Countdown never disappoints. It has become a cornerstone of Neon Events, with its vibrant shows stretching across Asia, from Malaysia to China and, since 2019, Bangkok, Thailand. Today, NEON Countdown is more than just a festival; it’s a dynamic celebration that unites people from all walks of life, sharing in the joy of world-class music as we welcome the New Year together.
For first-timers or returning fans alike, here’s what you need to know:
● Dates: 30-31 December, 2024
● Venue: Wonder World Extreme Park, Bangkok, Thailand
● Expected Attendance: Based on previous years and early ticket sales, NEON Countdown is expected to draw 15,000–20,000 attendees each night, filling Wonder World Extreme Park with an atmosphere like no other.

Imagine an old theme park turned into a NEON-lit playground for ravers, with a giant ferris wheel casting an enchanting glow over NEON attendees, and standing tall parallel to the NEON stage—a sight that has to be seen to be believed.
What To Expect From Neon

This year’s Phase 1 lineup is nothing short of spectacular. Alongside Martin Garrix, we’ll see powerhouse acts like Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, MRAK, Lost Frequencies, and Indira Paganotto, with more artists to be announced.
For me, seeing Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike back at NEON Countdown is a thrill—they first played here in 2019, then again in 2022, and both sets were pure magic. They say the third time’s the charm, so I can only imagine how unforgettable their set will be this year.
But NEON Countdown isn’t just about the big names. Last year, I was in the PGA zone as the sun set behind the Neon stage, and it felt like a scene from a fairytale—a surreal, almost dreamlike moment. Later, when I found myself right in front of the stage during Blasterjaxx’s set, the outside world just melted away; it was just me, the music, and the crowd moving as one. It’s moments like these that make NEON Countdown truly unforgettable.

NEON Countdown is more than a festival—it’s a welcoming haven that brings together people from around the world. I’ve met attendees from across Asia and beyond, and some of my closest friendships were forged right here at Neon. There’s a special energy, an almost magnetic aura, that makes everyone feel like they belong to something extraordinary.

Oliver Heldens is back with "I Want Your Love," a euphoric techno anthem produced alongside DIØN and Funk Tribu.
The unlikely trio have cooked up something that feels both primal and polished. It’s a masterful fusion of techno's shadowy allure and house’s hands-in-the-air vibes, a dichotomy that Heldens has mastered over the years by balancing his own music and that of his techno alias, HI-LO.
Out now via his own Heldeep label, "I Want Your Love" is propelled by an undercurrent of dark, rumbling basslines that keep you anchored even as the soaring vocals lift you higher. The Dutch dance music superstar says the track represents his view of what's next in dance music.
“The last few years, I’ve been inspired and excited about what the next generation in dance music is up to, and DIØN and Funk Tribu have been two of my favorites from this new wave of uptempo rave music," Heldens said in a statement. "We thought bringing our three worlds together in one track would be interesting."

Lilly Palmer to DJ at Penn State Football Game

Techno powerhouse Lilly Palmer is no stranger to firing up massive crowds. But this Saturday, her crowd will look a bit different when she DJs for over 10,000 college football fans at Penn State's game against Washington.
Palmer, who was named one of EDM.com's best music producers of 2023, will be opening the game with a live DJ set. The milestone establishes the German electronic music star as one of the first European DJs to do so at a major college sporting event, a representative of her press team confirmed to EDM.com.
Last summer, Palmer's inclusion of Zombie Nation's "Kernkraft 400"—a longtime anthem of Penn State football—took the internet by storm. Now, she'll bring the iconic game chant back to its home turf.
In other Palmer news, she recently performed alongside Eli Brown at Miami's Hocus Pocus festival, where the duo threw down a gripping techno set.
Earlier in 2024, Palmer signed a landmark record deal with Armada Music and Kontor. Her most recent release as part of the pact was a fiery remix of Armin van Buuren's "Blah Blah Blah," in which she breathed new life into the trance icon's 2019 festival classic.

Bassnectar Posts Latest Court Case Response

Since April of 2020, as the world of EDM has partied on, Lorin Aston aka Bassnectar is still neck deep in sexual assault allegations. Recently, he posted an update regarding a motion to dispute the claims made by his accuser, on Reddit. This will be a new direction in his legal battle if it takes hold.

A quick overview of Bassnectar’s Allegations
In 2020, Lorin Ashton faced multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, including claims of engaging in inappropriate relationships with underage girls. These accusations led to a lawsuit filed in 2021, alleging child sexual abuse, sex trafficking, and the creation and possession of child pornography. Ashton has denied all allegations, describing them as “outrageous” and “without merit.” These words alone turned away many fans. In response to the controversy, he announced an indefinite hiatus from his music career. Many other artist like Blunts & Blondes, Space Jesus, Datsik, SNAILS, and Graves have seen accusations in the past years.
