“…the first major electronic work of the new Millennium. It’s that good.”
– Stephen Fortner, Keyboard Magazine
Head-turning, game-changing long players had become par for BT’s course by 2006. If it didn’t stun, it didn’t see the sun, and his early noughties works (‘Movement In Still Life’ and ‘Emotional Technology’) had already travelled far from his origin sound. There’s nothing more relative than relativity though and three years after ‘Emotional Technology’, ‘This Binary Universe’ did for BT what ‘going electric’ did for Bob Dylan.

It’s an album that inverted everything anyone thought they knew about the artist: ‘counter-club-culture’ didn’t even come close! Again, through the power of technology, this December BT revisits his most heterogenous LP with a pristine remastering; a 4K upscale of its paired film and a first-ever outing on vinyl. Still way ahead of its time today, ‘This Binary Universe’ is ready to challenge young minds and win new hearts once again.

‘This Binary Universe’ seemed mission-led to capsize every album covenant going. It had no commercially-minded lead single (‘Flaming June’, ‘Godspeed’ or otherwise) … or for that matter any singles whatsoever! It consisted of a lean seven tracks, however only two ran for less than ten minutes.
For the album’s creation, BT went into creative overdrive and locking down a defining ‘sound’ for ‘Binary’ is as blissfully confounding today as it was in ‘06. Several themes do breathe for longer than a single track though. BT’s soon-to-be-signature Stutter Edit effect made its first appearance, while orchestral aspects also play noteworthy roles. Having embraced the latter while writing the motion picture soundtrack for the Charlize Theron-starring Monster, he composed ‘Binary’s symphonic parts during downtime working on the Stealth soundtrack. This, most notably, included the 110-piece orchestra used on ‘The Antikythera Mechanism’ – the closest point between the natural and technological spaces the album depicts. ‘This Binary Universe’ is also
marked by stylish mid-track changes in tone, tempo and feel. ‘Dynamic Symmetry’ glitches magnificently from wind chime electronica to breezy jazz, before acquiring a midpoint drum & bass signature. ‘Good Morning Kaia’ meanwhile commences in ambient piano before oh-so-slowly edging in its guitar and rock threads.

Artistic distinction was decisive in the early part of the new millennium and for his part BT was keen to dust the technological trail behind him. For the album’s insanely detailed 74 minutes he customized synths and children’s toys, while building and using his own plug-ins from scratch (most famously Stutter Edit and Break Tweaker) to achieve the required intricacies. He got mathematical with his harmonies on the golden ratio’d ‘1.618’; worked in the programming language Csound for ‘All That Makes Us Human Continues’ and made considerable use of circuit bending (the mis-wiring synths to obtain unique sound sequences) on a number of others.

And had all that ingenuity not been quite enough, BT foresaw ‘This Binary Universe’ as his first multimedia project, engineering the music for playback on the DTS’s 5.1 surround sound system. This he realized through seven vignettes that comprised ‘This Binary Universe’s film, which saw a limited theatrical release in 2006. Four were developed by CG artist Scott Pagano, while Mondi, Dose Productions and Transeau himself also created one apiece. They spanned cinematographic range, from live action and computer generated, through to traditional animation. For ‘Good Morning Kaia’, BT’s used footage of his (then-just-born) daughter with the track’s ‘lyrics’ appearing only as subtitles, drifting in time to his piano notes. For its 2024 re-release, each piece has been re-rendered to 4K, vividly upscaling every cell and frame.

Exploring the relationship between the carbon-based and digital worlds, with meditations on everything from parenting to programming, the remastered version of BT’s ‘This Binary Universe’ arrives Dec 6. Music will never be quite the same again (… again): https://blackhole.lnk.to/tburemastered

Opening up like never before, Nostalgix has returned to Steve Aoki's Dim Mak Records with "Show Me Love."
The emotional dance record offers a heartfelt exploration of despair and resilience. In a world where social media all-too-often showcases polished perfection, Nostalgix delivers an unfiltered ode to her struggles with heartbreak, isolation and loneliness during a challenging year.
"Last year I was going through hell," she said in a press release. "I faced my biggest heartbreak and endured so much loss. I felt torn and completely alone."
Nostalgix.Brooke Ashley Barone
Initially, attempts to create "fun" and "hype" tracks left her feeling disconnected. Frustrated, she scrapped her earlier work, turned on her microphone and poured her emotions into music. The result was "Show Me Love," which explores the feelings of being lost and unsure of how to move forward, yet holding onto hope for brighter days.
"It felt like the song was just waiting to come out of me," Nostalgix added.
The release is accompanied by a striking music video that mirrors the song’s raw energy. As day transitions to night, vivid strobes and red lights appear, echoing the song's emotional depth.

If you were looking for a desert escape from the winter season, look no further than the warmth of Mojave Grey's debut album, Monument.
Comprising Zander Bleck and Michael Pozzi, the rising music duo brand their sound "desert dance music," blending their deep-rooted rock & roll influences with pulsating electronic beats to deliver an 11-track masterstroke. The album kicks off with an introduction of sorts, the self-titled track "Mojave Grey," where Bleck welcomes us with buttery, effortless vocals while Pozzi showcases his instrumental dexterity.
Building upon that ethereal ambience are tracks like "House Of The Sun" and "Heartbeat," which wordlessly describe the meaning of desert dance music: spiritual and traditional, served on a silver platter of contemporary beats.
At times light and atmospheric, Monument often takes skillful, premeditated turns for the dark and brooding. Tracks like "Faith" and "Lone Star" plunge us into dark digital soundscapes as we cling to the light of Bleck's hopeful lyricism.
The ebb and flow between the album's light and dark ambience is drawn from the "rugged landscapes of Joshua Tree," according to a release shared with EDM.com.
“Monument is our desert dance debut to the world," stated the duo. "This album is our conscious offering and statement that we are here to stay. The album is meant to be enjoyed as a listening journey all the way through alone or with friends. On a long drive along the highway or at a party. Lose yourself and transport to a place wherever your own personal monument may be.”

Though Deathpact's members remain anonymous, their mastery of dark, blistering bass serves as the face of their collective. It's fully visible in the new single "GATEKEEPER," which prepares us for a tour that comes with the promise of the same intensity and precision.
"GATEKEEPER" delivers dramatic, thought-provoking dialogue on the wings of sinister church bells, crashing thunder and organ melodies, and of course, skillfully manipulated bass. As the dialogue begins, it spotlights the upcoming tour: "And when you stare into the dark, I hope you see the light."
In the midst of its delightfully erratic drop, "GATEKEEPER"  seems to pay homage to past hits, namely with a short Strohbass moment reminiscent of Deathpact's popular collaboration with Rezz, "Chemical Bond." The single follows Deathpact's debut album FROM DARKNESS, released back in May, while also cryptically foreshadowing FROM LIGHT, which is set to arrive in 2025, per a press release shared with EDM.com.

With his latest EP, Freeze Sucka, FREAK ON crafts urban legends you can dance to.
The producer has dropped a pair of hip-hop-charged house tracks that pulse with the thrill of a city alive after dark. The titular track commands sustained attention with an intoxicating bassline and rolling rhythms that pulse like the heartbeat of a city that never sleeps. Vintage hip-hop influences are stitched seamlessly into the fabric of its house grooves, creating a sound that radiates raw energy. It's the kind of track that dares you to stay still, but resistance is futile.
"Get Quick" then ups the ante by dialing up the funk with plucky basslines and lush, twangy strings, calling to mind the swirling lights of a disco ball. Filtered strings bend and twist over a bouncing house rhythm, creating a dynamic, nostalgic atmosphere that feels both familiar and fresh. It’s a nod to the past with one foot planted firmly in the future, a testament to FREAK ON's ability to bridge stylistic worlds with finesse.

Members club, Soho House, has announced plans to open Soho Farmhouse Ibiza in spring 2025. This will be the group’s first Farmhouse-style venue in Spain, situated on a working olive grove.
Soho House is a private members’ club that primarily caters to individuals in creative industries. Founded in 1995 by restaurateur Nick Jones, the first location opened above Café Boheme in London’s Soho district. The club was envisioned as a welcoming space for creative thinkers, contrasting sharply with the formal atmosphere of traditional private clubs. Today, Soho House has expanded globally. The new property will become Soho House’s third Spanish location, joining its Barcelona venues. The opening comes as part of the brand’s ongoing global expansion, which includes projects in cities like Tokyo and Milan.
Features and Amenities
Soho Farmhouse Ibiza will cater to members seeking a mix of rural charm and modern amenities. Planned features include:
Accommodations: Private bedrooms designed for members.   Outdoor Spaces: A pool, yoga deck, and wellness facilities including a gym and treatment rooms.   Dining: An organic kitchen garden restaurant and bar emphasizing local ingredients.   The design aims to replicate the countryside atmosphere of the original Soho Farmhouse in Oxfordshire, UK, while adapting it to the Mediterranean environment. The venue’s location on an olive grove ties into Ibiza’s finca tradition. Fincas, historic rural estates often surrounded by farmland, are a hallmark of the island’s agro-tourism scene. Many of these estates now host visitors, offering farm-to-table dining and eco-friendly experiences. Soho Farmhouse Ibiza appears to follow this model, blending luxury accommodations with an emphasis on sustainability.
This development signals Soho House’s continued growth in Spain, where it operates two other locations. It also reflects a wider trend in Ibiza tourism, which has seen increased interest in wellness-focused retreats and agro-tourism. Ibiza’s reputation as a destination for both nightlife and tranquility makes it a strategic choice.
With construction underway, Soho Farmhouse Ibiza is expected to attract members from across the globe when it opens next year. The opening may appeal to those looking for a quieter side of the island while still enjoying its vibrant culture.

Toolroom Records presents another club banger courtesy of CHANEY, one of their most beloved musicians. Returning with a track destined to set dance floors ablaze, the UK-based producer features the venerable Candi Staton. This partnership is absolute magic, given CHANEY’s ability to create joyful, high-energy songs and Candi’s legendary vocals.
Over the past year, CHANEY has been on an unrelenting journey, acquiring stripes among the most interesting names in electronic music. His summer song “Sunshine” became a mainstay on UK radio and playlists; his releases on Insomniac and D4Dance helped to confirm his position on the world scene. From lighting the Ministry of Sound for Toolroom concerts to rocking New York’s subterranean, he has been everywhere.
Not only are his live presentations captivating to his audience but tracks like “Love Again” and “Blank Space” have jaw-dropping 15 million and 10 million streams, respectively, showing that CHANEY is not just a DJ’s preferred producer but also one who understands audience connection.
With his most recent Toolroom album, CHANEY now elevates the standard once more. Designed for the raw, electric intensity of venues like Ibiza’s DC-10, this tune has everything we love about his sound: tall buildup, earth-shaking drops, and a bassline that goes under your skin. And then there is Candi Staton. Her remarkable voice captivates the audience to “LOSE MY NUMBERRR!”, thereby fusing old-school soul with contemporary dancing sensations in a way that feels timeless and fresh all at once.
This release is a statement not merely a banger. CHANEY is among the most brilliant talents in the United Kingdom, and working with a legend like Candi Staton is just another way to confirm his legacy. Time and time again he has shown this.
Whether you’re blasting it through your headphones or sweating it out in a packed club, this track is a must-have for everyone who likes dance music that hits you squarely in the heart—and the feet.
Love it; stream it, spin it. Here to brighten your night are CHANEY and Candi Staton.

The Loop has started a new year-round programme to deliver its pioneering onsite drug testing at Drumsheds and The Warehouse Project, with testing in the autumn 2024 clubbing season to monitor trends in the drug market for safety.
For the first time The Loop has received HO licences to test at venues, building on its work at festivals over this summer. Much of The Loop’s service delivery, since 2013, has been working within and alongside the festival industry, and developing the service model and approach for drug testing services in different environments. The Loop’s drug testing services (‘back of house – BOH’) are non-public facing and operate by testing substances confiscated or through amnesty onsite, and working alongside key stakeholders. The Loop received the first ever Home Office licences issued for drug testing for UK festivals in spring 2024, and for UK venues in autumn 2024.

The Loop is now conducting onsite drug testing at two of the largest club venues in the UK, Drumsheds in London and The Warehouse Project, Depot Mayfield in Manchester, to inform our understanding of the UK’s changing drug market and the implications of that for both customers and emergency services operating in those venues. The Loop will have the UK’s first HO licensed mobile laboratories to be located onsite within both venues during operating hours, to rapidly and accurately test substances of concern and disseminate test results with the primary aim of reducing drug-related harm.
Changes in the drug market have made the rapid-real time testing offered by the Loop more important than ever with drug-related deaths at the highest on record and set to increase further. The UK also faces increasing challenges with the emergence and proliferation of synthetic cathinones, cannabinoids and opioids.
|
Katy Porter, CEO of The Loop said:
“With our drug testing being completed at festivals, a seasonal industry, we have been concerned that this does not go far enough in maintaining regular drug intelligence across the UK, and importantly throughout the year. The introduction of our year-round onsite testing into a venue in both London and Manchester will provide intelligence for real time risk management and harm reduction information that can be quickly shared with the public, other venues and wider stakeholders to reduce the potential of significant harms.”

Professor Fiona Measham, Chair in Criminology at the University of Liverpool and founder and Chair of The Loop said:
“The Loop’s drug testing programme is going from strength to strength. We started out conducting the very first back of house testing onsite at the WHP in October 2013 and 11 years later The Loop is introducing year-round onsite venue testing, including with our long term partners at the WHP and now also at Drumsheds, with full HO licences. The size of these venues and the regularity of testing all year round means that The Loop’s understanding of drug markets will only increase.”

“Implementing onsite drug testing at both Drumsheds, London, and The Warehouse Project,Manchester, will commence a nationwide network of drug testing, funded directly by the venues. Swiftly communicating to venue customers, wider nightlife communities, and partners, including public health, early warning systems, law enforcement, and importantly, the generation of real-time alerts when there are significant concerns.

Sam Spencer, Head of Operations, representing Drumsheds and 9.8, says:
“As part of our ongoing commitment to public safety and harm reduction, we are proud to collaborate with The Loop in bringing their innovative drug testing service to Drumsheds. We believe in taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all audiences and the introduction of testing is a significant move in that direction. The information gathered helps us continue to respond in real-time to potential risks, and following the ONS report of increased drug-related harms, this initiative represents a crucial shift in how the industry responds. It’s about more than just mitigating risks – it’s about equipping people with the knowledge and support they need to stay safe across London, Manchester, and nationwide, while fostering a responsible, informed culture within the live events space”.

The Loop’s mobile lab, operating under a Home Office licence, will contribute to the national surveillance of illicit drug markets, which allows more targeted interventions when responding to drug use, disseminated through social media to reach a wide audience, and in working with local and central government departments, OHID and the Home Office, in consideration of concerns and response.

Michael Kill, CEO of the Night Time Industries Association:
“The NTIA wholeheartedly supports The Loop’s pioneering initiative to expand onsite drug testing. This programme represents a ground-breaking step forward in our shared commitment to enhancing public safety within the nightlife sector. The rapid changes within the UK’s drug market, including the rise of synthetic substances, have underscored the urgent need for informed, real-time responses. The NTIA is proud to champion this forward-thinking approach, which equips our nightlife venues with tools that protect audiences and encourage a safer, more responsible nightlife culture. The partnership between The Loop, venues, and local authorities marks a crucial evolution in public safety and harm reduction within the UK’s nightlife sector, and we look forward to supporting its positive impact on communities nationwide.”

The planning for testing will remain dynamic, and in consideration of additional information and intelligence from all involved partners (police, public health), increased risk and further changes in the drugs market, and to ultimately inform plans for related harm reduction activity and approaches.

Since its inception in 2010, A Love from Outer Space (ALFOS) has been a steady presence in the underground music scene, fostering a close-knit community with its regular, transformative dancefloor experiences.
Founded by the late Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston, both highly regarded DJs and producers, ALFOS was born out of a shared love for slower-paced music and quickly became a lasting and adventurous clubbing experience. Initially conceived as a response to the fast-paced mainstream scene, ALFOS took a different approach, maintaining a tempo of no more than 122 bpm.
The club night started in the intimate surroundings of The Waiting Room in North London, where its distinctive musical ethos found an immediate following. Over time, it evolved into a British clubbing institution, expanding to larger venues and eventually reaching an international audience.
ALFOS became known for its eclectic and hypnotic sound, blending everything from kosmische and house to dub and post-punk. The night developed a loyal following, with residencies at London’s Phonox and Glasgow’s Berkeley Suite, and it has taken its sound to various settings, from the Croatian coastline to the Golden Lion Pub in Todmorden.
Following Andrew Weatherall’s passing in 2020, Sean Johnston has carried on the ALFOS legacy. During the pandemic, he launched the A Love from Outer Space Emergency Broadcast System, a series of livestreamed DJ sets that kept the community connected during a challenging time. These broadcasts were crucial in maintaining the ALFOS spirit when live events were paused, attracting a global audience and reinforcing the collective bond of the community.
This upcoming compilation reflects the music that has shaped ALFOS over the past 15 years while also hinting at its future. Compiled and mixed by Johnston, the 19-track album pays tribute to the club night’s rich history and its commitment to pushing musical boundaries forward.
Johnston explains, “The thing about ALFOS is that while we’ve always had one eye on the past, much of the music we play is forward-looking. This compilation seeks to captures that balance.”
The album features a variety of exclusive tracks, including the sought-after Neville Watson remix of The Blow Monkeys and Brioski’s “Call 626,” alongside a wide range of sounds that both honour the past and embrace the future.
As ALFOS prepares to celebrate its 15th anniversary, its influence remains strong, offering a space for music lovers to come together, slow down, and explore new sounds.

The Circoloco concert in Cairo on November 15, 2024, instead descended into anarchy leaving thousands of ticket holders stranded and many reporting unsafe conditions, in what was supposed to be a magnificent night of electronic music against the backdrop of the historic Giza Pyramids. Widespread criticism and demands for responsibility resulted from the ambitious endeavor of the esteemed electronic music brand to combine modern dance culture with one of mankind’s most famous historical locations.
“pure chaos started“
Early in the evening, the issues started as thousands of non-ticket holders tried to flood the stadium gates. By 9:00 PM, an orderly queue rapidly descended into a scene of disarray and panic. Many guests claimed that a serious security breach resulted from local citizens without tickets trying to pass through the main gates.
Attending from Dubai, a visitor who spent about $1,000 on the trip with his girlfriend noted the quick degradation of order:
What many claimed to be a poor security reaction aggravated the situation. Police and security personnel allegedly helped to cause anarchy instead of upholding discipline. Many legal ticket holders became targets of these forceful actions as witnesses reported security officials releasing police dogs into the throngs. Batons were witnessed being used by security personnel against both illegal visitors and authorized ticket holders equally. While several attendees related unsettling events of security staff trying to loot guests of their things, others claimed the use of tear gas to control the crowd.

“it was a war zone, barely got out of there alive“
Many valid ticket holders discovered they were caught in a terrible twilight outside the arena. The anarchy at the door caused a congestion that left some never able to enter even with legitimate tickets waiting for hours. One especially remarkable story came from a party of Dutch visitors who claimed to have been left at the door with about a hundred others and had no reason for being denied access.
The experience of a Turkish guest who said, “We went to the party area at 8 o’clock and arrived inside exactly 22:30,” helped to show the degree of the delays. Many others claimed similar or even longer delays, therefore this four-and- a-half-hour wait became a regular occurrence. Many finally failed to enter at all.

“At the girls’ toilet, only 1 toilet was open and the attendant at the toilet door took 200 EGP to enter”
For those who made it into the site, the issues didn’t stop at the gate. The venue’s payment system proved to be erratic, with top-up stations suffering protracted wait times before totally collapsing and staff members having to move to cash-only operations quickly. The beverage service was also poor; alcohol supplies ran totally empty by midnight, leaving many attendees disappointed and parched.
The facility has equally serious problems. Many parts of the venue suffered from poor lighting, which created hazardous mobility conditions. Reports of unofficial bathroom attendants asking for fees ranging from 150 to 200 EGPs for admittance led to especially severe circumstances in the bathroom. In other places, only one toilet stayed operational despite several facilities being constructed, resulting in unclean conditions and unworkable lines. With music totally stopping for thirty to forty minutes during the event and crowding making it almost impossible for guests to walk freely or appreciate what music was playing, the sound system also suffered major disturbances.

Circoloco explained the situation
Circoloco addressed the situation through an Instagram story with the following statement
