A voice that first captured the ears of electronic music fans with "Escape," a collaboration with deadmau5 and Kaskade's Kx5, HAYLA has now become impossible to miss. The British singer-songwriter has now announced her first solo U.S. tour, offering fans in four major U.S. cities a front-row seat to one of today's most defining voices of the genre.
Having released her scintillating debut album DUSK last month, HAYLA is decisively spearheading her own path. Recorded over three years, the 10-track collection is both expansive and deeply personal, traversing themes of loss, renewal and self-discovery.

When conceptualizing Dancing Astronaut’s 2025 class of Artists to Watch, it was clear that Aaron Hibell — one of dance music’s most promising aspiring acts — should and ultimately would grace our annual list. His brand of cinematic melodic techno has garnered millions upon millions of impressions on social media, thanks to his remixes of popular tracks, like Billie Ellish’s “‘CHIHIRO,” and “destroyer of worlds,” from the Oppenheimer soundtrack.
Hibell’s collaboration with 2024 Artist to Watch Alex Wann, “set me free,” received support from artists like RÜFÜS DU SOL, Tiësto, and Adriatique, and even soundtracked Ultra Miami’s 2024 aftermovie. No coincidence, considering that Hibell scored the aftermovie, further strengthening the case for his recognition as an Artist to Watch. ALLEYCVT
ALLEYCVT had herself a massive year. A string of original releases like “F______LOVE YOU,” “STRATOSPHERE,” and a high-profile collaboration with high-octane bass trio Levity, “ONE FOR YOU,” helped to bolster her growing discography. In addition to putting out a steady stream of singles this year, the DJ/producer/singer triple threat embarked on her headline “FEEL IT” stateside tour this fall and just recently announced phase two of the tour, set to continue into 2025. ALLEYCVT also received support from the likes of Zeds Dead and ILLENIUM and played major festivals like Lost Lands, HARD Summer, and North Coast in 2024, leaving no doubt that she’s worthy of an Artist to Watch in 2025 nod. — Zach Salafia

Amy Wiles
After starting her DJ career at just 16 years old, London’s Amy Wiles became a resident DJ for Above & Beyond’s Anjunabeats in 2018. However, she wouldn’t release her debut single (“Biding Time”) until 2021, and that was just the beginning of what the label standout had in store.
2024 proved to be Wiles’ biggest year yet, between consistent touring, which included her sold-out debut headline show to complement her debut EP, Here I Am, and an official remix for Oliver Heldens. Anamé
In 2022, the Anjuna-backed duo, comprised of Marcus Schössow and Thomas Sagstad, burst onto the scene with their Above & Beyond collaboration, “Gratitude.” That, coupled with the release of their debut album, 2023’s Beautiful World, helped to tee up a momentous 2024 that included a collaboration with Kasablanca, a double-single release, “Hero / It Can Be Better Now,” and an album tour. Arcando
At the start of each year, we hear that the coming calendar will be a drum ‘n’ bass takeover. Well, in 2024, rising drum ‘n’ bass tastemaker Arcando did everything within his power to make that claim ring true, accurately calling 2024 his “best year yet” when sharing his Spotify Wrapped recap.
Martin Garrix’s deployment of Arcando’s “Jungle” remix (alongside “Scared To Be Lonely”) at Ultra in March was a highlight of Miami Music Week that attracted just about everyone’s attention. What would follow is a campaign that saw the Dutchman further expand his touring agenda and add eight more releases to his track record, including an inevitable STMPD RCRDS signing, where he became the first-ever artist to release a drum ‘n’ bass track on the label, alongside Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch alumni, Vluarr. As the door to the drum ‘n’ bass world continues to blow open, Arcando will be standing front and center in 2025. — Ross Goldenberg

Beltran
A no-doubt selection for this list, Beltran first gained notoriety with “Smack Yo” on Solid Grooves in 2022. 2024 was a breakout year for the Brazilian DJ, who made his presence known in the United States with gigs at Coachella, Hard Summer, and Space Miami, among others. Along the way, Beltran joined forces with Vintage Culture for one of the most in-demand IDs of the year, a remix of Kelis’ single, “Bossy.” These factors sealed the deal for Beltran’s inclusion among our list of the artists to watch in 2025. — Alex Lambeau

Clüb De Combat
Clüb De Combat are ready for their biggest year to date. After signing with Creative Artists Agency earlier this month, the Israeli duo is preparing to set out on its debut American club tour in 2025. But before they hit the road, Clüb De Combat just dropped off their eagerly anticipated collaboration with Max Styler on Experts Only, “On Repeat.” It follows the slamming project that the production pair delivered on Solomun’s Diynamic label in May, Time EP. If it wasn’t already apparent, Clüb De Combat have seen tremendous support from dance music’s most recognizable DJs, and their upcoming releases will be heard worldwide in the coming year. — Alex Lambeau

GENESI
Turn the clock back to the end of 2022, and you may remember an ID that had dance music in a white-knuckle grip. GENESI—who had remained anonymous previously—was revealed to be the name that was behind what would become one of the following year’s most talked-about releases, “Everything You Have Done” alongside MEDUZA.
Fast forward to now, and GENESI has built up a more-than-impressive resume, with 14 releases already to his credit over the past two years. In 2024, it felt like GENESI had truly begun to come into his own, with 10 of that tally arriving within the last 12 months. These productions landed on a slate of esteemed labels, including MEDUZA’s Aeterna Records, a widely-supported linkup alongside Max Styler on Insomniac Records, REALM Records, Tomorrowland Music, and more. All of them invariably fell into the hands of just about every A-list DJ imaginable, from Steve Angello to Anyma, to Vintage Culture to Armin van Buuren. As GENESI warms up for 2025, he’s already responsible for an ID alongside MEDUZA that will become a part of Dancing Astronaut’s most-anticipated releases of 2025, presuming it doesn’t arrive within the next few weeks. — Ross Goldenberg

Henri Bergmann
Dancing Astronaut was originally introduced to Herni Bergmann when she appeared on an Afterlife (Dancing Astronaut’s 2022 Label of the Year) compilation at the end of 2023. After witnessing Henri Bergmann’s back-to-back alongside Magit Cacoon at Cityfox’s summer edition at The Brooklyn Mirage earlier this year, we were immediately sold on her artistic potential.
In the time since June, our faith in Bergmann grew tenfold, leading to the Automatik Records label head’s spot on our record of Tomorrowland 2024’s must-see sets. But this affirming flash of promise this spring was just one part of a year in which the melodic techno talent repeatedly reinforced why she should be a part of Dancing Astronaut’s Artists to Watch in 2025. In 2024, Bergmann put up six releases, fashioned Automatik’s second 15-piece compilation, and appeared on several of Zamna’s lineups. Her year auspiciously — and fittingly — concluded with the news that she will join Afterlife’s annual trip to the jungles of Tulum, where she’ll open 2025 alongside the likes of Tale Of Us, Cassian, and fellow 2025 Artist to Watch Adam Sellouk. — Ross Goldenberg

Jackie Hollander
Jackie Hollander’s discography may be young, but it’s already making waves. Two years into her career, the “All My Friends Are Hot” producer boasts releases on Insomniac Records, REALM Records (alongside current Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch, Ellis Moss), Nervous Records, and FEMME HOUSE.
Following her first summer tour, featuring standout festival debuts at Outside Lands and EDC Orlando, Hollander is primed for a breakout 2025. Hailing from the Bay Area, she enters the new year backed by thousands of fans and industry heavyweights alike. John Alto
During Alesso’s stop in Brooklyn this past September, right before he brought out a future Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch, he grabbed the microphone to say that “it’s always important to lift up new producers and talents.” After making his debut on STMPD RCRDS at the beginning of the pandemic, John Alto catapulted into the limelight in 2024 after he paired up with one of our favorite Swedes for “Lonely Heart.”
“You’re going to hear a lot about [Alto],” Alesso told the thousands standing before him at Brooklyn Storehouse. And we’re here to back that claim. Earlier in the year, Alto teased his next chapter, which ultimately led to his first shows in the U.S. — in Salt Lake City, Brooklyn, and Los Angeles — and hinted that there’s much more to come in the year ahead, leading to an inevitable inclusion in our list of Artists to Watch in 2025. — Ross Goldenberg

Josh Baker
A master of the unreleased, Josh Baker is arguably the most-talked-about house music DJ in the UK. A seasoned producer who even teaches classes on music production, Baker heads the rapidly-growing record label and event series, “You & Me.” Rounding out his year with a 20-show headline tour, he’ll certainly be a high-priority target for many of the world’s biggest music festivals. His two latest singles on the Three Six Zero record label have seen tremendous success, and there is only more to be heard. — Alex Lambeau

Linska
To some, the name Linska may ring a bell. If it does, it’s because Linska is the new musical venture from London-born actress Ella Balinska, but it’s anything but a hobby for her. Linska became a full-time endeavor this year after Balinska introduced the project alongside Rebūke in January—with “Digital Dream”—and made her DJ debut at Splash House this past spring.
When Dom Dolla unleashed a scorching, techno-laden ID in Forest Hills, New York, many — including us — were left staring at an empty Shazam result. That ID — “Bad Boy,” released this past Friday via Realm Records — was quickly attributed to Linska. It went on to make the rounds in ensuing sets from Dom Dolla, the Realm founders, Gorgon City, John Summit, Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch alumni Volaris, and more. Linska’s debut solo release debut decisively sets the stage for her artistic journey to mature and expand in 2025 with what she forecasts as “more silly beats.” — Ross Goldenberg

LUSU
LUSU, a joint project launched in 2022 by Wiwek and Mike Cervello, ignited the scene this year with their self-described brand of “cinematic techno.” Their style embodies a unique sense of euphoria complemented by driving techno basslines, perhaps best exemplified by their collaboration with HI-LO, “Dizzy.” Other highlights from this past year include a collaboration with Eli Brown and releases on record labels like Drumcode, Hilomatik, and Arcane. The duo is already primed to expand on this year with a mountain of yet-to-be released tracks, eight of which can be found in their Parookaville set from this past July. And one of those aforementioned IDs—known as “Brain”—has already made its way into Eli Brown’s tracklists to help bolster LUSU’s year to come. — Zach Salafia

Luzi Tudor
As one may expect, Dancing Astronaut has a soft spot for This Never Happened — our reigning Label of the Year — and its diverse cast of talent. Our streak of including its signees in our annual class of Artists to Watch will unsurprisingly continue into 2025 with Luzi Tudor, who joins fellow TNH affiliates Otherwish, Grigoré, and Natascha Polké.
Since her blissful take on melodic house was welcomed via 2021’s “Pandemonium,” Tudor has continued to solidify her stature as one of the most refreshing names in the genre and beyond. Tudor fittingly opened the calendar year as part of TNH’s North American run, where she supported Ben Böhmer and Le Youth, appeared on the first-ever lineup for We Belong Here’s New York City edition, and stacked up a quartet of releases in 2024, including an official rework of Sia in September. Tudor has already announced that she’ll join Sultan + Shepard on select dates of their 2025 tour and even teased a handful of unreleased tracks in the pipeline, making her promise for the coming year that much more compelling. — Ross Goldenberg

Even if you haven’t heard of Maesic by name yet, you’ve definitely listened to one of his tracks. A veteran producer for some of dance music’s biggest icons, Maesic has garnered hundreds of millions of streams, thanks in no small part to his staggering tally of production credits. She could be found warming up dance floors for heavy hitters like Mau P, Azzecca, and Dom Dolla, shaking it during her slots at Electric Island and Escapade Festival, and selling out her debut headline show — no biggie, right?
This year, she’s chartered her course into vocal-house territory, delivering three club-ready anthems and bringing Kyra Mastro along for the ride on their late-year collab, “Ritual.” With a growing discography and an electric fanbase behind her, MARTA is primed for a major breakthrough in 2025; and we’re here for the ride. — Natalie Pereira

MISS DRE is a bona fide triple-threat. Along the way, MISS DRE released on labels like Realm Records (Gorgon City) and Insomniac Records and played a series of festivals, including Project GLOW, EDC Las Vegas, and Day Trip, among others. PACS made waves with his (technically unreleased) remix of RÜFÜS DU SOL’s “Innerbloom.” The proof is in the ever-growing list of support for PACS’ take, which currently includes Adam Beyer, Cassian, Kevin de Vries, and even RÜFÜS DU SOL themselves.
His activity since (originals like his two track OMNIA EP and singles like “Epilogue”) has evinced that his modern club take on the all-time classic was only a precursor for what was yet to come. PACS is currently sitting on countless unreleased originals and remixes that are due for a release in the new year and will continue to increase his traction. Considering these factors and the support he’s won from Tale of Us and Anyma, all signs point to a potential Afterlife debut in the near future. — Zach Salafia

A powerful house duo hailing from the UK, Prospa have become one of the year’s fastest-growing acts, thanks to a profile-raising run of hits, not to mention their uplifting melodies and nifty disco beats, which have brought a sense of nostalgia to the always-evolving house space. In 2024, Prospa garnered millions of streams across their Circoloco Records releases, with “This Rhythm” and “If You Want My Loving” certifying their status as one of modern house music’s most promising new acts. Riordan
If you’ve scrolled through TikTok at any point in the past few years, it’s likely that you’ve come across one of Riordan’s at-home production clips. Like many artists we’ve come to know and love since 2020, the UK native learned the ins and outs of dance music production when the pandemic struck. And after Gorgon City signed “Needle On The Record” — the garage-influenced weapon that can only be described as his breakout single — near the end of 2023, Riordan’s stock skyrocketed.
The coming year would see Riordan spend a bit more time outside of the UK, making festival debuts at EDC Las Vegas, Seismic Dance Event, and ARC Music Festival, appearing at label events for Realm Records and Experts Only, and performing at world-class venues like Brooklyn Mirage, Space Miami, SILO, and Amnesia Ibiza. A complementary collaboration with current Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch Ellis Moss (“GETAWAY”) duly caps off Riordan’s 2024 release calendar and conveys that he’ll gladly take the baton from Moss and carry it into 2025. — Ross Goldenberg

Rivo
In the age of TikTok and the creator economy, virality and commercial success can be achieved with just the push of a button. Parisian producer Rivo is a paragon of what’s possible when up-and-coming creatives leverage digital platforms, and even if the 22-year-old’s name doesn’t ring a bell, you’ve almost certainly heard his remix of Disclosure’s “You & Me.” His Afro house interpretation of the generational number enjoyed a seismic debut in 2023, soundtracking thousands of creator-generated videos.
While the profile-raising moves that Rivo made in 2023 set the stage for a momentous 2024, virality doesn’t equate to longevity. So he spent the past year powerfully evincing that his talents stretch far beyond social media ephemera, with yet another viral remix — this time, of Armin van Buuren’s “In And Out Of Love” — a stirring outing alongside Adriatique that plays like its name (“Like A Dream”), and the revelation of his first solo single, “Last Night,” via Capitol / Disorder Records.
These feats, coupled with several sold-out headline shows this year, and last year’s Beatport No. 1 (for “You & Me”), make one thing clear: Rivo is no flash in the pan. In 2025, he’ll only further build on the rock-solid foundation he’s laid in recent years. We’ll be watching, and you should, too. — Rachel Narozniak

Dancing Astronaut’s Artist to Watch classes have dipped into melodic techno more than just a few times in recent years, and next year’s is no exception. As we look toward 2025, there’s another name that we feel is guaranteed to not only become an Afterlife veteran, but also one of the genre’s sought-after names: Y do I.
Since the delivery of their debut album I Know in late 2021, childhood friends turned Y do I constituents Amos Chalfon and David Semo have continuously ripened their forward-thinking approach to techno. But 2024 was the year in which the duo truly began to hit its stride, with Massano’s invitation for Y do I to contribute to a Simulate label compilation and Argy and Tale Of Us’ offer for Chalfon and Semo to be a part of their White Isle residency serving as compelling proof of their momentum. And of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t mention Kevin de Vries as one of Y do I’s many sources of support this past year; the former Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch stood beside Y do I when they made their Afterlife debut this past September. With several Y do I IDs currently making the rounds, not to mention an upcoming appearance at Afterlife Tulum in January, the Chalfon and Semo are fully equipped for a formal breakout in 2025. — Ross Goldenberg

As Google's annual list spotlights cultural landmarks and emerging trends, Tomorrowland's presence best indicates why the brand continues to be synonymous with EDM's broader "magical" allure.

Directed by Henrik Burman, the film delves into Avicii's meteoric rise, offering viewers an unprecedented glimpse into his creative process and the whirlwind trajectory that followed the release of his 2011 breakout hit, "Levels." The trailer features his reflections on the moment his career skyrocketed, recounting how he went from playing small clubs to amphitheaters in a series of steps, each seemingly shorter than the last.

To fully experience this album, we recommend listening from start to finish rather than shuffling through the tracks. Sorza weaves together a cohesive ten-track journey, complete with build-ups, perfectly timed breaks, and a satisfying resolution; the perfect ingredients for an album.
Following Pillars’ release, Sorza expanded his sound with a special release featuring an orchestral version of his track ‘Visions of what could be,’ adding a new layer of depth and emotion to his already evocative sound, as well as a full Audiovisual set which premiered earlier this month.
Congratulations on your album, ‘Pillars’. How did you start?
The Pillars project began in March 2023, with around 30 demos submitted. It was interesting because, after looking at all the tracks, I realised they could be grouped into distinct categories or “pillars”. That’s where the album title came from. With this release, I wanted to showcase these different facets of myself. The title also ties in perfectly with the artwork, where each isolated piece represents a pillar, symbolising the various sides of my sound.
The first single, ‘Does it hurt me,’ and the B-side, ‘Sonyo’ (the first pillar), reflect my deep interest in non-Western music cultures. For ‘Does it hurt me’ I even created my own microtonal scale and incorporated the çifteli, a beautiful Albanian instrument that I’m currently learning to play. The B-side, ‘Sonyo,’ is a reimagining of a track previously released by the Bulgarian electronic band, The Science, and draws inspiration from a Bulgarian folklore poem. The second pillar explores the current bass music scene. With ‘Never,’ I wanted to create something that aligns with the modern production aesthetic and style that’s trending right now.
On the other hand, tracks like ‘Take me’ and ‘Hiding in the sea’ are a nod to my roots and what initially inspired me as an artist. Which I think is the third pillar. ‘Take me’ is a bit of a throwback to older styles and was originally titled ‘Take me back to 17’. This refers to the year I really dove into bass music, discovered halftime, and got hooked on tracks from labels like Division, formerly run by Noisia. I was also 17 at that time. In total, there are three main pillars in the project, though some tracks blend elements from different pillars to create something new and hybrid.
You just released your AV set for Pillars. Can you tell us a bit more about that?
Alongside my work as Sorza, I also have an audiovisual collaboration called Arsyn with one of my friends, Aidan Mulcahy. Together, we’ve developed a series of visualisers specifically designed for the tracks that are featured in the AV set, which adds an exciting and immersive dimension to the project. The AV set showcases all of my music, including unreleased bootlegs, remixes, and tracks that haven’t been released yet. I think it’s a great way to wrap up the Pillars project. The set premiered last week and if you’re a fan of Pillars (and even if you’re not) then I definitely recommend you check it out on the Vision and Sorza YouTube channels.
Why did you choose VISION as a label?
Choosing VISION as the label for this project came as a very natural decision. I’ve known the Noisia team since 2016-2017 through my work with The Outsiders, and we had already collaborated with VISION. So, when the time came to release my solo project as Sorza, it made perfect sense to continue that partnership. Now that I have a clear vision for my solo sound, it feels right to share this new direction with a label I trust and have a history with.
With Pillars, I want to introduce something fresh to the scene, and I believe VISION is the ideal place for this kind of music. It’s also the label that first inspired me when I entered the scene at 17, so releasing this with them feels like a full-circle moment. This album went through a lengthy and intense A&R process, and I’m thrilled with the final outcome; I believe we’ve crafted something beautiful. For now, though, I’m eager to translate the music I make into a club setting. On another front, I’m also working on a significant album that will focus entirely on the listener’s experience.
You talked about how you’re also a part of The Outsiders. How does Sorza differ from that project?
As a drum & bass artist, I’ve found that most people aren’t particularly interested when you experiment with different genres. A significant portion of what I create as Sorza focuses on half-time tempos, but I don’t limit myself to just one genre. I explore various BPMs, styles, and production aesthetics—something I felt I couldn’t fully embrace within drum & bass. Now I feel free to step outside those limitations. I want to develop this project in a way that allows me to produce tracks more freely, without being confined to a single formula or worrying about whether the audience will be receptive. That sense of artistic freedom is something I’m eager to cultivate.
The Outsiders for drum & bass, Sorza for all the rest, then?
Most likely, yes. I created a drum & bass flip of my ‘Creating an Oasis’ remix, which I only released on SoundCloud. However, it doesn’t make much sense for me to pursue drum & bass as Sorza. I want to keep my projects as separate entities. I started this one with a specific vision, and returning to drum & bass now would feel a bit odd, though I’m not ruling it out completely. I would love to do a Sorza drum & bass set because it would be very different from what I do as The Outsiders.
You want to create more club music. Where did that feeling start?
It feels like we’re experiencing a revival of club music right now in both the mainstream and the underground scenes. For example, Beyoncé’s album RENAISSANCE and, of course, Brat, from Charli XCX — club music is becoming increasingly popular. In the bass scene, I’ve noticed acts with such a music background pushing this style in ways that intrigue me. That’s why I want to explore this side of bass music further. I want to create more dynamic sets that transition between club music and half-time, allowing for better build-ups.
When you play at the right clubs, the audience really gets what you’re trying to do, and those are the places where I want to perform and that’s the kind of music I want to make. Although The Outsiders released a half-time track, that trend was only a brief hype in the drum & bass scene back in 2017. We produced two half-time tunes for our 2222 EP, but quickly realised that people primarily see The Outsiders as a drum & bass duo. That’s when we decided to reserve our more multi-genre tracks for our solo projects.
Where do you get your inspiration?
I draw inspiration from artists like Ivy Lab, Nikki Nair, Thys, COIDO. Ivy Lab, especially, their label made a significant shift in their direction. Initially, they focused on half-time, but recently they’re leaning more towards club music. I find this transition both intriguing and inspiring. They are now in a position where they can experiment freely with their sound, which is something I aspire to achieve.
The older half-time Ivy Lab-style influences several tracks on the Pillars album. I feel that sound is often overlooked today, which is a shame. A lot of the music I create has its roots in halftime beats and electronic hip-hop. Recently, I started a live collaborative performance with Dutch rapper Keenan Mundane. I essentially bootleg his instrumentals and mix the tracks while he raps. Keenan has a raw, primal energy when he performs, and in our live shows, I really feel that connection to the hip-hop genre that influences much of the other music I produce.
‘Does it hurt me’ and ‘Take me’ are two examples that incorporate this older style, yet they have been modernised with the production techniques and aesthetics.
Ultimately, I don’t want to rely solely on older sounds. With larger projects, I can showcase all the aspects of my musical vision, which is a crucial part of how I want people to perceive Sorza.
You really want people to see all sides of you, that’s beautiful! What other motivations did you have while making this album?
I have a bit of an obsession with storytelling, and I love weaving narratives into my music, especially for larger projects like this. I frequently listen to albums because I appreciate how one song can build on the next. It was a key goal for me with Pillars to avoid making it feel like a mere compilation.
This project took over a year to develop, and I aimed to create a clear, melodic opening that transitions into more eclectic sounds, culminating in a climax followed by an aftermath. The entire album revolves around this concept. Initially, there wasn’t an interlude between ‘Sonyo’ and ‘Never,’ but the transition felt too abrupt, so I composed an additional track, ‘At will,’ as an interlude to smooth it out.
I put a lot of thought into the progression of Pillars. Ideally, I want listeners to experience it from start to finish without shuffling the tracks, as that allows them to appreciate the story as I intended. Having 10 songs was essential for crafting this narrative. I find that with a shorter project, it’s much more challenging to create a full-circle moment. However, I also recognise the value of smaller releases; I’m not someone who likes to hold onto a project for an entire year. Overall, I’m really pleased with how this project turned out, and I’m glad it aligns with VISION’s … well, vision (ha).
Where does your interest in storytelling come from?
I consider myself more of a composer than just a producer. For me, composition is all about progression and the direction a piece takes. When I write songs, I strive to create unique experiences each time. While some tracks may have similar first and second drops, I believe there should always be a significant difference between them. It’s essential for each moment to feel distinct and to take the listener on a journey.
You can create a sense of progression within a single song, but I like to extend that narrative across an entire project, making the overall journey feel even more expansive. While some listeners might return to an album for one or two standout tracks, I aim for my audience to appreciate the album as a cohesive experience, drawn in by the flow and evolution of the music throughout.

I want to thank everyone who supported and guided me through this entire process. The A&R journey was quite lengthy, and I learned so much from the whole process Big up to Jaap & Nik! I want to thank Aidan Mulcahy for creating all the visual content for the album and Matvey Murashko for capturing the images that brought those visuals to life. Can you give us an introduction on how you got into dance music? Did you know from the start you were going to use your own name / did you toy with using an alias of sorts?
The music industry has always been a source of inspiration for me. After graduating from my studies in Food Technology, the Covid pandemic hit. During this period, I had the time to invest in playing and producing music. To get myself into the market during this time, I performed at house parties and hosted livestreams. I experimented with various genres, including tech house (Vera Vera) and hard techno (Technovlinder), but my passion for techno stood out the most. From that moment on, playing and producing techno as VE/RA became my primary focus.
Congratulations on your debut on Drumcode, ‘Can’t Get Enough’. Tell us more about your creative journey on this new single.
Having my first release on Drumcode felt like a dream come true. With my track ‘Can’t Get Enough’, I aimed to define my sound and incorporate everything I love into one track. I combined a catchy vocal with trance-inspired melodies, acid elements, and powerful drums. Interestingly, I produced this track very quickly, everything fell perfectly into place.
You have had a great career so far, and big successes since your 2023 release ‘Love & Peace’. How does this latest single work towards your signature sound?
With ‘Love & Peace’ I believe we created something unique by blending a rap vocal with a techno foundation. I always try to stand out in my productions by experimenting with combinations of catchy vocals, trancey melodies, hard kicks, rolling basslines, and acid elements. At the same time, I aim to maintain my identity as a techno artist, which can be challenging but is also incredibly exciting!
Who are artists on your radar that you’d like to collaborate with?
Too many to mention, haha! But to mention some: Charlotte de Witte, Amelie Lens, Reinier Zonneveld, Adam Beyer, Space 92, Eli Brown, HI-LO, Kiki Solvej and Joyhauser.
I know you have a new single ‘Fusion’ set to be released on Filth On Acid, tell us about it and what else can we expect in 2025?
I’m super happy to be back on the Filth On Acid compilation, especially after contributing my track ‘Timeless’ last year. With ‘Fusion’, I aimed to create a high-energy techno track that combines acid drops with a dreamy break and tension-filled textures. I believe this track offers a truly unique listening experience. I hope listeners can feel its energy, particularly in the atmosphere of a dark techno club. Looking ahead to 2025, I already have a lot of new music lined up on incredible labels! Some major festivals are also on the horizon, but I can’t reveal anything just yet. Stay tuned on my socials to keep up to date!

The coffee table book, priced at £50 RRP, delves deep into the label’s rich history, covering everything from its humble beginnings to its global dominance. With stunning visuals, including archival photography, event flyers, and release artwork, the book offers a comprehensive look at the label’s impact on the house music scene. Renowned visual artist and designer Trevor Jackson, who led the label’s 25th-anniversary rebrand, has curated the cover and creative direction. To further commemorate its 25th anniversary, Defected has released a limited edition vinyl boxset of the Together series. This series, which has been a cornerstone of the label’s celebrations, features a collection of collaborative releases and remixes from both legendary and emerging artists. The boxset includes thirteen double-sided 12″ singles, individually sleeved and housed in a sleek, silver outer case. When laying down a bassline, do you prefer funky slaps or smooth fingerstyle grooves?
For me, the song always dictates the technique, not the other way around. If I’m going for deep & heavy pocket grooves, I might thump & pluck the line, or if it’s something tight and syncopated, I might use the finger technique.
Do you feel more at home experimenting in the studio or performing live on stage?
Performing and entertaining live are in my DNA. I love studio deep dives too, but I love creating and performing music with a community, ultimately.
When it comes to inspiration, are you more influenced by classic funk legends or modern bass innovators?
I tend to lean towards the classic players because they always seemed to play for the song, no matter the complexity or simplicity of a bassline. I think studying and embracing the legends, is what has helped me develop my own style, while also remaining embedded in those same roots.
Do you prioritize crafting a danceable groove or creating a complex, experimental bassline when working on a new track?
Not to sound redundant, but it all goes to what the song needs. I always want to make you move with a bassline, whether it be physically or emotionally, but that song will give the instructions about how to accomplish that. The song has always been number 1 versus spotlighting a technique.
In terms of collaboration, would you rather jam with another bassist or a drummer who can match your rhythm?
I consider myself a drummer who plays notes, so a drummer collab is always best in my zone.
If you had to choose, would you prefer your bass tone to be clean and precise or gritty and distorted?
How about heavy and flanged?
On stage, do you lean towards engaging with the audience through high-energy movement or focusing on locking in a tight groove?
The audience and community are always my musical GPS. You often find some of the most epic performances recorded, live, and I think there is another source a player taps into when they are connected with their audience. I do sometimes get lost in a groove, but I want them to get lost with me.
Do you gravitate towards live instruments in your tracks or rely more on electronic production to enhance your sound?
My natural go-to is more live instruments because that’s where I started. But electronic production is where my heart seems to be connected the most. It’s like building your house with way more blocks.
When faced with a creative block, do you prefer jamming it out on your bass until inspiration strikes, or stepping away completely to recharge and refocus?
Just keep playing and writing. Sometimes I will feel stuck, but music always delivers and sometimes takes you in another direction. It’s always out there waiting for you to connect with it.
When writing, do you start with the rhythm section to lock in the groove or focus on melody and harmony first?
I think because I’m tracking live instruments, I tend to think beat & grove first, but I do still try to make sure those grooves have a strong melody. Just like a singing melody will have a hook that gets stuck in your head, I try to make the groove have the same melodic connection.

EDM.com: What do you think is driving the current global appetite for Latin-infused dance music?
Vikina: I think the world is finally catching on to what we’ve known forever: Latin music is alive. It’s vibrant, emotional and full of passion. There’s an energy to it—the rhythm, the stories, the way it makes you feel—that really connects people to their culture and lets them share it through music.
When you blend those sounds with dance music, I’m able to show how dynamic and exciting the genre can be. It’s about pushing boundaries and creating something that feels fresh but still honors where it came from.
EDM.com: How has your upbringing in Miami influenced your fusion of traditional Latin sounds with contemporary electronic beats? Are there specific cultural elements you want to highlight?
Vikina: Growing up in Miami meant being surrounded by this incredible melting pot of Latin culture. With my Ecuadorian mom and Cuban dad, I was constantly exposed to a mix of sounds from every genre you can think of. Gloria Estefan was a huge inspiration for me—she showed that Latin music could have a massive impact in the United States. I want my music to capture that same energy and diversity, to reflect the city that raised me.
EDM.com: Can you walk us through your creative process when working with Deorro on your Latin Grammy-nominated song "BAMBOLE?"
Vikina: I had been wanting to collaborate with Deorro for a long time and sent him a bunch of ideas before, but this one finally caught his attention. I started the idea with some local producers in Miami, using a "75 Brazil" sample we knew would be tough to clear. I knew Deorro would take it somewhere bold and electric. I had a feeling he’d do something amazing with it, but what he created completely took me by surprise—in the best way possible. I wanted the vocals to feel like they were calling you straight to the dancefloor and we layered that with one of those iconic Deorro-style drops he crafts so well. It all came together so naturally.
Deorro truly deserves the recognition he gets. He’s paved the way for Latinos in EDM, and collaborating with him was such an honor. Knowing it earned me my first Latin Grammy nomination makes it even more special.
EDM.com: What’s your ultimate mission as an artist?
Vikina: My mission is to continue the legacy of the Miami artists who paved the way before me and blend cultures in that special way only we know how. I want to create a soundtrack for freedom—for dancing, crying, wanting, celebrating and living fully in the moment. Beyond the awards (which, let’s be real, are incredible), I want to inspire people, especially women, to take up space, own their roots, be fearless and break boundaries. I hope my journey encourages the next generation to write their own rules, whether that’s in music, life, or even politics. Because the magic—and the truth—is always somewhere in the middle.
EDM.com: How do you push the boundaries of physicality and sensuality in Latin dance music to tell diverse stories?
Vikina: Sensuality is part of who we are as Latinas, but it's not our whole story. Early in my career, I wrote a lot about yearning and wanting someone who probably wasn't 100% into me. Those were fun and cathartic in a sense, sort of a sexual love letter—with class of course. However, in Spanish there tends to be a much more poetic way of describing certain things.
These days, I’m more focused on telling meaningful stories through dance music. One track might be about dancing through heartbreak, and the next is about owning your power. My goal is to bring depth to the dancefloor—whether you're vibing to the beat or really listening to the lyrics, there’s always something there to connect with and to feel.
EDM.com: What challenges have you faced as a woman reshaping the male-dominated Latin dance music narrative, and what progress do you see?
Vikina: Oh, honey, the challenges are real but I've never been afraid of a challenge. People often underestimate us or think we're just the “pretty face” on the track—but little do they know I'm actually the songwriter, recording engineer and vocal producer of most of my tracks too. I’ve learned to let my skills speak louder than any stereotype and to get comfortable with my role as a leader in these rooms.
Strong communication skills and being well-educated in your business and craft earn you real respect even if looks got you in the door. So I say, "Use it!" I’m seeing more women stepping into producer roles, headlining festivals and just owning their space. It feels like we’re not just breaking the mold—we’re shattering it.

EDM.com: What do you see as the next evolution in Latin dance music?
Vikina: The future is all about blending genres even more. I feel like we’ve really ridden the tech house and Afro house wave hard this past year. With all these "Latin sample packs" out there, it feels like anyone can make Latin EDM now. I’d love to see things evolve—maybe more Latin techno or mainstream progressive Latin EDM.
For example, Deorro is fusing Mexican music in a really cool way. Imagine a bachata guitar with futuristic synths or traditional Andean flutes on a drum & bass beat. The sound needs to evolve, and it’s time to make it happen
EDM.com: What has been the most surprising lesson you’ve learned about yourself in these fast-moving genres?
Vikina: That I’m way stronger than I thought. It’s a tough industry, but every challenge has taught me resilience. I’ve learned to trust my instincts and embrace my uniqueness—because what’s the point of following the crowd when you were born to lead the dance?
EDM.com: What do you want your music to communicate to listeners unfamiliar with Latin culture or dance music?
Vikina: I want them to be moved, whether it’s through the lyrics or the sazon of the music. It’s more than just sound—it’s about the emotions, the history and the community behind it. Dance music is all about release. Even if you don’t speak Spanish, I hope my music makes you feel something. That's why I write in Spanglish sometimes because I want there to be something for everyone to hold onto. Music is the universal language, and I’m here to make sure EDM en español becomes a part of everyone’s playlist.
