After a long-awaited return, San Holo is back in Thailand, ready to captivate audiences at the iconic 808 Festival. Known for blending heartfelt melodies with electronic beats, San Holo brings his unique artistry and passion for connection to the stage. In a candid conversation with Preetika, he opens up about his culinary adventures in Bangkok, the creative evolution of his music, and the magic of live performances. From introducing his guitar into sets to redefining genres with innovations like “Wholesome Riddim,” San Holo continues to push boundaries while staying true to his core message: it’s all about love.
So, San Holo welcome back to Thailand after a long time.
Thank you very much.
I see that you’ve been very happy to be here. I’ve been seeing your stories that you’ve been going on a semi-food tour. How’s that been?
Great. I just love walking around and taking in the energy of the city. We’re staying at a hotel in the middle of the city. It’s really great. The food here is also really great, super amazing.
Today’s set basically marks your first appearance at 808. What are your expectations and how do you think the night is going to go?
It’s been 5 years since I’ve been here in Bangkok and I’m very happy to be back. I’ve got my guitar with me and I’m going to play a whole new set. I’m just very excited to connect to Thailand again.
So without revealing too much because you know we want the element of surprise, can fans anticipate any exclusive tracks or unique elements besides the mention of the guitar to your set?
So I’ve just released a new EP, it’s called ‘What is Life’ and I’ll be playing a lot of new songs from that EP. I’m going to try and speak a little bit of Thai “Phom Ruk Khun”. If anything, I’m just going to feel it out and see what the crowd needs and I’m just going to kind of feel the energy and play the best set that I possibly can.
So you were talking about going with the rhythm and the flow, that brings me to my next question. At Lost Lands, you sort of introduced the concept of ‘Wholesome Riddim’, could you tell us a bit more about that?
So you know Lost Lands is a very heavy dubstep festival and I wanted to bring something more wholesome and beautiful to the festival so I kind of tried to invent something new and I actually made a lot of new songs for that festival and called it ‘Wholesome Riddim’. People really liked it. Even though dubstep is known to be very heavy and dark, I wanted to make it more vibrant. I tried to introduce my own little sounds and sauce into the genre.
I think that’s what’s great about being a music producer in 2024 is that there is genre fluidity going on where you can cross between genres without the restriction of being tied to one particular genre compared to 10-12 years ago.
Yep. I mean I’ve always said that San Holo is a feeling, it’s not a genre. Throughout my career I’ve made house songs, trap songs, guitar-based songs, ambiance songs, at the end of the day it’s all just love. That’s what I want to do with San Holo, I want to show people how I experience the world with my sounds and my songs. I’ve always just been doing all kinds of experiments. I’ve also always been a music geek, so I was always in my room making the beats and the music. I never really went to the clubs until I started doing the San Holo thing. Just besides the music thing, it also introduced me to a whole new lifestyle. I got to travel because of this and it’s been a beautiful experience.
I wanted to go onto how you mentioned you integrate your guitar into your sets. How do you balance spontaneity with structure during your performances?
I think the crowd offers spontaneity. I can plan everything but when I see that the crowd is not vibing or is extremely vibing with something, I’ll end up going more in that direction. It’s really dependent on the crowd. It’s beautiful. It’s always a surprise.
Speaking of structure, this brings me to my next question..So outside the realm of electronic dance music, are there any artists you’d like to collaborate with in the near future?
Yeah I want to do some crazy collaborations that no one expects. Like I want to collaborate with a crazy heavy dubstep producer and a trance artist. I just want to do stuff that you normally think wouldn’t go together and basically make it work. I also want to show people something new. The whole San Holo thing for me has always been about doing something new or introducing people to a new feeling. Back in 2014 trap music was really big and I wanted to make it more melodic and colorful and initially people thought it was weird, sounds different. Even when I showed my friends, they said it’s a little too exotic but it worked.
My last question is that as you take the stage at 808 festival, what’s the core message you hope to convey to the audience besides “Thailand Phom Ruk Khun”?
The message is that it’s all love. Whatever genre you’re playing or whatever style you’re playing, it all comes down to love. It sounds very cliche to say oh it’s all love but truly it is all love. We’re all connected through love.
Thank you so much again for sitting down with me on behalf of EDM House Network, 808 and all your fans. I look forward to your set tonight.
Thank you very much. Thailand, let’s go!

Kygo takes his tropical vibes to the next level and is set to open up the Palm Tree Club Miami hotel on December 21st. This 150-room hotel has a 20-ship marina (for boat access to dinner), dining experiences, a 24-hour fitness center, and more. All together, they will immerse guests in Kygo’s relaxed, beach club vibes. Back in 2022, Kygo and his manager mentioned this spectacular build and the exact goal of it.
More details on the Palm Tree Club
The Palm Tree Club is exactly that, a place where music fans, especially tropical house lovers can come together. Kygo and his manager, Myles Shear are turning the former Shuckers Waterfront Bar & Grill hotel into a Miami must-stay. The building features Miami Modern (MiMo) style architecture with influences of Art Deco. The creation of Palm Tree Club draws inspiration from the Margaritaville empire of the late Jimmy Buffett, which encompasses music, resorts, restaurants, and other lifestyle offerings.
The Palm Tree Crew & Palm Tree Festival
Kygo and Shear have expanded their brand, the Palm Tree Crew into a multifaceted brand, including an artist management division, a record label, a festival organizer (the Palm Tree Festival), and food & beverage projects. They have had great success bringing the tropical lifestyle to life through music, events, and now a whole hotel.

Editor's Note: EDM.com proudly publishes four installments of annual year-end coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances & DJ Sets, Music Producers and Songs.
Each year, EDM.com highlights the most daring and innovative sets, amplifying the artists whose boundary-breaking work is reshaping electronic music on a global scale.
From intimate underground showcases to massive festival spectacles, these performances are celebrated not only for their technical mastery, but also for their ability to influence cultural movements. This isn't about popularity or ticket sales—it's a recognition of artistry that cultivates moments fans will remember for decades.
In no particular order, discover the best DJ sets and performances of 2024 below.
ODESZA — "The Last Goodbye" Finale, Gorge Amphitheatre
ODESZA's swan song for their "The Last Goodbye" era was a triple-header at Washington's breathtaking Gorge Amphitheatre. The duo built a universe unto itself in the Pacific Northwest, the perfect setting for their farewell performance before an indefinite hiatus.
An immense amount of planning and coordination goes into bringing any ODESZA experience to life, but they took it to another level in the cradle of the Gorge's grandeur. Soul-stirring string renditions, powerful live vocalists and exhilarating mashups took the crowd on a journey that somehow felt both cathartic and deeply intimate.
Meanwhile, fans turned into puddles of emotion as they walked through "Echoes," a surrealist, tech-driven art installation moonlighting as a monument to their unparalleled connection with ODESZA's Clayton Knight and Harrison Mills. The duo had shared an anonymous phone number and asked fans to leave voicemails containing their favorite ODESZA memories, which were played in 4D audio around the installation's gleaming towers and transcribed on their LED panels.
Transforming the concerts into hubs for immersive storytelling, ODESZA proved that technology can facilitate the emotional release of their music when wielded with intention and purpose.

Skrillex — Lollapalooza, Chicago
When Lollapalooza announced that one of its most iconic stages would be renamed after Skrillex for one night only, you knew something special was coming.
Fans attending the storied Chicago festival in 2024 were treated to two performances from Skrillex at Perry's Stage, which officially transformed into "Sonny's Stage" on Saturday. He opened Saturday with an early performance under the Windy City sun before closing the night with a spectacular headlining set.
As you might expect from an artist of this caliber, the performance was not only one of the festival's best, but one of the year's best. Skrillex used his stage takeover to offer fans a career retrospective that celebrated all his groundbreaking chapters as well as the enduring legacy of Perry's Stage and its namesake, Lollapalooza co-founder Perry Farrell.
From his ageless remix of Avicii’s "Levels" to his collaborations with Justin Bieber, Damian Marley and Boys Noize, Skrillex reminded us why he remains one of the industry's most prolific artists.

Arca — Boiler Room: Caracas
From the shadows of systemic erasure in her native Caracas, Arca took on the pressure cooker of Boiler Room and threw down a homecoming DJ set for the ages.
"This set should be studied by at least 20 anthropologists," one awestruck fan commented on YouTube.
Amid the ongoing, catastrophic Venezuelan refugee crisis, Arca returned home and rebuilt in sound what had been fractured in spirit. Her larger-than-life Boiler Room headline in March reunited a group of DJs who hadn't performed in the country for over a decade, according to local photographer Augusto Silva Alliegro, who called the show "a historic moment for Venezuelan music and the country."
Arca vogued and vibed as she threaded a latticework of distorted bass and ambient textures, curating a set that was simultaneously disruptive and deeply intimate. Highlights included spins of "Rain (I Want a Divorce)" by the late electronic music legend Ryuichi Sakamoto and Arca's woozy remix of Frank Ocean's "Little Demon."
Flexing her thrashing beats and signature unpredictability behind the decks, it was a form of radical storytelling—a transgender artist reclaiming space in a challenging cultural terrain.
Words by Jason Heffler.
Keinemusik — Pyramids of Giza, Egypt
There's no doubt that Keinemusik started a cultural movement in 2024. You were bound to spot someone sporting the collective's "uniform"—hat, silk scarf and glasses—at any house music show this year.
However, their set at the legendary Giza Pyramids in Egypt hit different. Bringing along their signature "kloud," Keinemusik's Adam Port, &ME and Rampa delivered a rave experience for the ages on April 19th.
Perfectly matching the mystique of the pyramids, the oldest of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, the rare performance helped further propel Afro-house music globally.
Words by Brooke Bierman and Jarett Lopez.
RÜFÜS DU SOL (DJ Set) — Mayan Warrior, Burning Man
The Burning Man community was devastated by last year's heart-wrenching loss of the beloved Mayan Warrior art car, a symbol of unity and magic that set the stage for unforgettable musical moments on the playa. But it rose from the ashes in 2024 and—reborn as Galaxyer—ushered in a new era with RÜFÜS DU SOL leading the way.
After a five-year hiatus, the group returned to Burning Man for an instant-classic DJ set. The way they captured the alluring energy of the playa was magnetic and their curation impeccable, stacking beloved RÜFÜS acapellas (like "Treat You Better" and "Underwater") atop modern melodic house jams (like "Nothing On Me" by Maz, APACHE and Maxi Meraki). The hotly anticipated performance also featured aching remixes of "Lately," "Music is Better" and the timeless "Innerbloom."
Add Galaxyer's outer space-themed production and a striking sunset on the playa to the mix, and you've got an audiovisual feast. Black Rock City came alive.
"The energy we felt during the Mayan Warrior set was unlike anything we have ever experienced," RÜFÜS DU SOL said at the time.
Words by Rachel Freeman, Saad Masood and Jarett Lopez.
Justice — Coachella
Seven years after their last performance at Coachella, Justice returned to the desert in breathtaking fashion in 2024.
Closing out the Outdoor Theatre, the iconic French duo unraveled a set comprising almost entirely unreleased music. It was dazzling showcase of Hyperdrama, their first album in nearly a decade, which released just a few short weeks later.
Bold, glitzy and undeniably dynamic, Justice's Coachella set was a masterclass in live electronic music performance that bubbled over with the retrofuturistic electro that made them icons. It was one of those rare sets where you couldn't decide whether to stand in awe or lose yourself on the dancefloor.
Words by Andrea Nguyen.
TSHA — "In The House" Defected Ibiza Summer Sunset Boat
Sun, soul, summer, saltwater and TSHA: the perfect storm for an instant-classic DJ set.
TSHA in 2024 released her long-awaited sophomore album, Sad Girl, but first she cruised the Mediterranean Sea on a yacht and threw down one of the year's best DJ sets. Back in April, the influential house music producer became the first artist to perform for Defected Records' revamped "In The House" mix series, which relaunched this year as part of the label's 25th anniversary celebrations.
TSHA's touch was fresh yet reverent, a perfect tribute to the iconic series. She dropped a handful of her own hits, like "Sweet Devotion," as well as sun-kissed dance records by Amine Edge & DANCE, Monki and Todd Terry, among others. Each track felt like a conversation, where soulful vocals and dynamic production spoke to your emotions while brisk percussion propelled your body—and the boat—forward.
To that end, the radiant DJ set is a microcosm of TSHA's artistry. It invites you to move, but compels you to listen—and in that balance lies her magic.
Words by Jason Heffler.
Michael Bibi — One Life London
It's tough to identify an artist who had a more impactful year than Michael Bibi, the house music icon who triumphed over a rare form of cancer and made DJing history.
His journey from survival to celebration reached its pinnacle at One Life London, a totemic and dramatic performance that marked Bibi's return to the stage after becoming cancer-free. He played for over 45,000 fans in his hometown, setting a new record by headlining the largest electronic show in London's history.
The show was an emotional whirlwind, with poignant visuals showing clips of his time in the hospital and scenes from his childhood. Bibi bangers like "Got The Fire," "Different Side" and his remix of "Eyes on Fire" heated up the crowd for over three hours, and his father even joined him onstage for a mesmerizing guitar solo.
Bibi's historic performance wasn't just a concert—it was a testament to the power of dance music to heal, ultimately bringing to life a vision that he said kept him inspired during his time in the hospital.
Words by Rachel Freeman.
LSZEE — Red Rocks Amphitheatre
LSDREAM and CloZee make up the genetic code of their brainchild, LSZEE, but the project is distinctly its own.
The renowned Red Rocks Amphitheatre was a picture-perfect venue to unleash the full creative force of their self-titled LSZEE album, a record about curiosity, spirituality, nature and the exploration of a vibrant world. The duo's two-night spectacular was an immaculate example of frequencies in perfect harmony, LSDREAM's contagious enthusiasm bringing CloZee out of her shell and CloZee's culturally rich music adding fascinating layers to LSDREAM's wubs.
Maybe it was the organic surrounding nature of Red Rocks, sending LSDREAM and CloZee back to Joshua Tree where the LSZEE project was conceived. Maybe it was the palpable vibrancy of the crowd. Whatever the case, LSZEE's remarkable doubleheader is etched in the memories of their fans forever.
Words by Shakiel Mahjouri and Madison Berg.
G Jones b2b EPROM — DEF Detroit
While the techno world flocked to Detroit for the storied Movement Festival over Memorial Day weekend, the DEF team cooked up one of the most intimate and incredible DJ sets of the year.
Sweat and hot breath filled the air like a fog machine gone haywire as fans took up every centimeter of Big Pink, a tiny venue that used to be a hot water tank manufacturing warehouse, for a chance to witness G Jones share the stage with EPROM.
Together, the virtuosic producers threw down hours of experimental bass, live acid originals, unreleased tracks and incomprehensible sounds that left everyone stunned after the house lights came on.

Exploring the fragile line between the genius and vulnerability of Avicii, director Henrik Burman has opened up about the emotional weight of his upcoming documentary, Avicii - I'm Tim.
Due out December 31st on Netflix, the film is set to release in tandem with Avicii – My Last Show, which revisits the night he graced the stage of Ibiza's storied Ushuaïa club for what would be his final performance. Less than two years later, the DJ, whose real name was Tim Bergling, tragically died by suicide.
Burman says the project began in 2019 as a concept for a TV documentary about Avicii's final album, Tim. It came with its own unique set of challenges, like trying to unearth fresh footage of the late EDM icon while taking on a "huge amount" of research.
"Everyone around Tim had gone through an extremely difficult time, and of course, everyone deals with it in different ways—there were many long conversations. We in the team were determined to give this the time it needed and move forward slowly and carefully," Burman explained in a Netflix Q&A, which the streaming service shared with EDM.com. "Then there is always the challenge of the edit itself. To allow yourself to make mistakes and redo and to seek the essence of the story in a large amount of material. To find the right tone. Making the right choices."
Avicii DJing at Ushuaïa Ibiza on August 28th, 2016, in what was ultimately his final performance.Netflix
The acclaimed Swedish director's journey into Bergling's world was driven by a profound curiosity—not just about the universal appeal of his music, but about the man behind it. What began as a quest to demystify the seemingly untouchable "Avicii universe" evolved into an intimate search for the human truths that shaped his artistry.
As the threads of Bergling's life, creative ambitions and public persona intertwined, the filmmaker found both clarity and complexity.
"When I started working on the film, my biggest driving force was trying to find the opposite—a closeness to Tim as a person, to search for something I heard in his music and understand where it really came from. Quite early on, I felt sparks between who he was as a person, what he was striving for artistically, and how he was perceived as an artist. That was the basis for my story... Weaving that narrative with his life story and at the same time taking a holistic approach to his entire career was a huge challenge but was also what constantly drove me forward."
A striking warmth and humor emerged, particularly in Bergling's early years, surrounded by friends, family and the untainted joy of creation. This balance of light and darkness set the tone for a nuanced portrayal, unflinchingly capturing both the struggles and the brilliance that defined his career.
"The first thing I noticed when I saw all the archive material was how much warmth and humor there was in and around Tim with his team, friends and family," Burman recalls. "In particular, this was a dominant feeling in the early years before everything became more complicated and big."
"But also towards the end of his life. I just saw a lot of passion. It was a side I hadn't seen so clearly before and it became a good foundation to stand on to set the tone for the work; without shying away from the difficult parts and issues in Tim's life. It was also important for me to carefully try to portray the complexity that came to dominate Tim's life. Because even though it was extremely dark in the darkest parts, there was also a lot of light."
Tim Bergling, the late EDM icon known as Avicii.Netflix
Burman says he ingested thousands of hours of private archives, recordings, interviews and Avicii's music to viscerally understand his plight. The film features never-before-seen archival footage from every chapter of his journey, including childhood moments captured on family VHS tapes and candid snapshots from friends' phones. Through these fragments, he hopes "to give the viewers a greater understanding of who [Bergling] was, both as a person and an artist."
He paints a picture of a documentary that's both an intimate portrait of Bergling and a reflection of something universal—the beautiful, messy complexity of life, where nothing is simple and every story is layered. It invites fans to look beyond the icon of Avicii and uncover the tender, human heart beneath the beats.
"A viewer said to me that 'the film is so specifically about Tim—but at the same time is so universal.' And I thought that was beautiful. Life is not simple, there are no easy answers, everything is complex and multi-layered. That's what I aim to contribute to Tim's story. I also hope that the dedicated fans will gain a fresh perspective on both Tim as a person and Avicii as an artist. It's a documentary film that captures a life!"

From learning the ropes as a teenager to performing on some of the biggest stages globally, MITCH DB’s journey is one of passion, persistence, and creativity. Known for his signature high-energy sound and engaging live performances, the Amsterdam-based DJ and Producer has steadily built a name for himself on the Electronic Music scene, remaining motivated and committed to sharing his music with listeners worldwide, whether through unique studio productions or immersive live DJing sets.
Today, he joins us for this exclusive interview to reveal more about his career within Electronic Music; diving into his musical beginnings, pivotal moments in his story, and his vision for the future, we gain insight into his journey, evolution and the path that lies ahead for MITCH DB.
Hi MITCH DB, how are you?
I am doing great, thank you! Thanks for having me on this interview!
To start, can you share what initially drew you to music? Can you recall your earliest musical memory?
That’s a great question! My love for music began when I was very young. Around the age of 7/8, I received my first DJ lessons from my sister’s boyfriend. He introduced me to the process, and I found it fascinating. However, I didn’t pursue it further until I was about 16/17. At that point, I often went out with friends who were DJs and performed at their shows. By the time we were 18/19, I had become their tour manager, travelling across the country with them for gigs.
This experience deepened my passion for music. One day, while talking with one of my closest friends, one of the DJs, he decided to teach me how to play. He showed me the basics, and I borrowed his small DJ controller, a CDJ 350. It had no waveforms, so I had to listen carefully to the music to learn.
After countless hours of practising in my bedroom, I decided to enter a DJ contest at a local club. Out of eight participants, I placed fourth. Even though I didn’t win, the owner of the venue recognized potential in my sets. He offered me the chance to play at his bar on weekends, from 9 PM (when the bar staff arrived) until 11 PM (when the first DJ started). He allowed me to use the professional equipment there, giving me valuable practice time.
After a year of playing every Friday and Saturday night, I started getting invitations to perform at other shows. That period marked the true beginning of my journey in music, and I still remember those early experiences as if they happened yesterday.
How did your breakthrough year in 2018 shape your path as an Artist?
2018 was a pivotal year for me, and it didn’t come easy. It was all about hard work, constant hustling, and having the right support from the people around me. That year, I entered another contest, this time for a chance to perform at Dance Tour, a major festival. I ended up winning first place, which was a game-changer for my career. It gave me the opportunity to perform at the festival in front of 10,000 people, alongside some of the biggest artists in the Netherlands.
I also decided to invest in a photographer, which turned out to be a smart move. I walked away from the festival with over 300 photos that I used to market myself on Instagram. This boosted my visibility and opened up new opportunities. Soon after, more clubs started reaching out to book me for performances.
By the end of the year, I landed two international gigs: a pool party in Thailand and a month-long residency in Bulgaria for 2019. Winning that contest in 2018 and performing on such a big stage truly set the foundation for my growth as an artist.
Was there a specific turning point that led you to transition from DJing to producing, and how did it shape your journey?
Absolutely, there was a turning point! Early in my career, I primarily focused on creating mixtapes, which I shared on SoundCloud. I was also experimenting with FL Studio, learning how it worked, but the music I made during that time was mostly for personal use and never released publicly.
The real shift happened during the COVID pandemic when everything shut down, and live shows were no longer an option. With more time on my hands, I started focusing heavily on producing. I created remixes, edits, and mashups for myself and began sharing them on SoundCloud. This turned out to be a great move, as these creations helped me grow my name in the industry. To this day, those releases have collectively garnered tens of millions of streams.
While the pandemic was a difficult time, it gave me the opportunity to explore and define the direction I wanted to take with my music. Coming out of the COVID period, I felt stronger and more focused. By 2022/2023, I began collaborating with Soave Records, marking a new chapter in my journey as an artist.
How would you describe your signature style? Which artists have been most influential in shaping your sound?
My signature style during a show is super energetic, with a strong focus on engaging the crowd. I love creating an atmosphere where people feel connected to the music and each other. This energy also carries into the music I release. I always aim to create tracks that make people sing, feel happy and let them move.
This combination of my DJing style and production approach gives every release and live performance a unique and personal touch. It’s all about bringing positive energy and creating moments people won’t forget.
Can you tell us about your live performances? What’s been the most unforgettable moment you’ve had on stage so far?
Live performances are my absolute favorite part of being an artist. There’s nothing like meeting the people and fans who listen to my music in real life. Online numbers don’t really capture the feeling, but seeing their faces and energy in person makes it so much more meaningful.
I’ve had many unforgettable moments on stage, but my favorite one of 2024 has to be my first performance at Space Plus in Bangkok, ranked the number 46 club in the world by DJ Mag. The Thai people always give me such a warm and welcoming feeling, it’s like being at home, even though I’m on the other side of the world from Amsterdam, where I’m from.
What made this night truly special was the energy of the crowd. From the moment I started my set, people were in front of the stage, fully engaged, and they kept that energy going throughout the entire performance. It was unreal! Add to that the iconic status of the venue, with its incredible atmosphere and a capacity of 2,000 people, it’s easily one of my favorite places to perform in Asia.
What impact has working with Soave Records had on your career and sound?
Soave Records has had, and continues to have, a huge impact on my career. They were the first to truly believe in me and recognize my potential. After spending two years during the COVID period developing my skills, and releasing countless unofficial remixes and edits on my SoundCloud, we decided to collaborate and focus on releasing mostly covers.
Working with Soave has opened so many opportunities for me. They’ve connected me with other talented Soave artists, which has helped me grow both as a producer and as an artist. Their support has played a major role in shaping my sound and taking my career to the next level.
How do you see the landscape of Electronic Music evolving, and how do you envision your role in its future?
I see a lot of movement in the Electronic Music scene, and I’m definitely evolving with it. I believe it’s crucial to keep developing myself in line with the industry while staying true to my own style. This doesn’t mean I need to change who I am, but it’s important to adapt and incorporate trends that align with the vision of MITCH DB.
It’s all about staying aware of what’s happening in the scene, shaping my unique sound for the future of Electronic Music, and at the same time, keeping in touch with what my fans want to hear from me.
What role do collaborations play in shaping your creative process and pushing your artistic boundaries?
Working with other artists inspires me a lot. I often collaborate with the same artists, which works really well because we share the same passion and support each other whenever one of us gets stuck. It’s a dynamic that keeps the creativity flowing.
At the same time, working with artists I’ve never collaborated with before is always a unique and exciting experience. Building something together allows for fresh ideas and new perspectives. I’m often surprised by the final result, it’s completely different from a solo release. Having two or three additional creative minds involved can take the music in a direction I wouldn’t have imagined on my own.
Finally, what are your ultimate goals as a DJ and Producer, and how do you plan to achieve them?
My goal is to make people all over the world happy with my music. My ultimate goal is to convert this into worldwide shows, giving every fan the opportunity to experience a unique MITCH DB live performance. I want to go the extra mile for every show, delivering a full experience with stunning visuals, light shows, and SFX to create magical moments and unforgettable memories for everyone who attends.
How do I plan to achieve this? My team and I are fully committed to reaching this goal. We’ll bring maximum energy to every new release and live performance in the coming year, ensuring we deliver on this vision and continue to connect with fans around the globe.
As we wrap up our conversation with MITCH DB, it is clear that his drive and dedication continue to fuel his pursuit of success. With a strong foundation and an ever-evolving sound, he remains focused on delivering music that resonates both from the studio and on stage, promising more exciting plans next. As he remains passionate about connecting fresh audiences with his signature sound and unique energy, MITCH DB’s story is surely one to watch, following him across social media to keep up with his latest news, releases and performances.

TikTok, the popular media platform known for its short-form videos, is facing a potential ban in the United States. In a bold move, TikTok has taken its case to the highest court in the land, appealing to the U.S. Supreme Court for a temporary pause on a law that could see the app banned if it is not separated from its parent company, ByteDance. This legal battle raises important questions about free speech, the power of the government to regulate technology, and the future of social media.
On December 16, TikTok filed an emergency motion with the Supreme Court, arguing that the law in question, the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act, infringes on the First Amendment rights of its users. By invoking the First Amendment, TikTok is challenging the government’s authority to regulate the app based on national security concerns. This legal maneuver sets the stage for a high-stakes showdown between a tech giant and the U.S. government.
With over 170 million monthly active users in the U.S., TikTok has become a cultural phenomenon, especially among young people. The potential ban of the app would have far-reaching consequences for its users, content creators, and the broader social media landscape. The outcome of this legal battle could shape the future of online expression and the relationship between technology companies and government regulators.
The First Amendment Argument
One of the key arguments put forth by TikTok in its appeal to the Supreme Court is the protection of free speech guaranteed by the First Amendment. By framing the ban as a restriction on speech, TikTok is challenging the government’s rationale for targeting the app. The company’s lawyers argue that Congress has overstepped its authority by singling out TikTok for punitive measures based on its Chinese ownership.
The First Amendment has long been a cornerstone of American democracy, enshrining the right to free expression and the freedom of the press. By invoking this constitutional principle, TikTok is positioning itself as a defender of free speech rights in the face of government censorship. The outcome of this legal battle could have significant implications for the future of online speech and the ability of tech companies to operate without government interference.
At the heart of the First Amendment argument is the question of whether the government has the authority to regulate social media platforms based on national security concerns. TikTok’s appeal to the Supreme Court raises important questions about the balance between security and free speech in the digital age. The outcome of this case could set a precedent for how the government interacts with technology companies and regulates online content.
The Impact on Users and Content Creators
Charli D’Amelio – One of the most-followed accounts on TikTok Beyond the legal arguments, the potential ban of TikTok has significant implications for its millions of users and content creators. For many young people, TikTok has become a primary source of entertainment, creativity, and social connection. The loss of the app could disrupt their online communities and limit their ability to express themselves through video content.
Content creators, who have built careers and followings on TikTok, could also face financial and professional setbacks if the app is banned. Many influencers rely on TikTok as a platform to reach audiences, collaborate with brands, and generate income. The uncertainty surrounding the app’s future could have a chilling effect on the creative economy and the livelihoods of those who depend on social media for their work.
The potential ban of TikTok also raises questions about the diversity of voices and perspectives on social media. As a platform that has attracted a wide range of content creators from different backgrounds, TikTok has been celebrated for its inclusivity and accessibility. The loss of the app could narrow the online landscape and limit opportunities for underrepresented voices to be heard. The outcome of this legal battle could shape the future of online content creation and the ability of diverse voices to thrive in the digital space.
The Future of Social Media Regulation
The legal battle between TikTok and the U.S. government underscores the challenges of regulating social media in the digital age. As technology companies become increasingly influential in shaping public discourse and culture, governments around the world are grappling with how to balance the benefits of social media with the risks of misinformation, privacy violations, and foreign influence.
The outcome of the TikTok case could set a precedent for how governments regulate technology companies and protect national security interests. The debate over the balance between security and free speech is likely to continue as new technologies emerge and online platforms evolve. The legal battle between TikTok and the U.S. government is just one example of the complex relationship between technology companies, governments, and users in the digital age.
As the case makes its way through the legal system, the future of TikTok hangs in the balance. The outcome of this legal battle could have far-reaching implications for the future of social media, free speech rights, and the relationship between technology companies and government regulators. The stakes are high, and the decision of the Supreme Court could shape the future of online expression for years to come.

With the forthcoming release of The Element‘s latest EP, “Flames of Emotions,” UNSEEN Records once more shown its dedication to stretching aural limitations. This two-track wonder is a deep investigation of sound, emotion, and the careful balance between light and dark as much as a musical release.
The EP starts with the title song, “Flames of Emotions,” which instantly carries listeners into a world of ethereal complexity. From the opening seconds, the song creates a complex atmosphere with both lovely and disturbing quality. Haunting vocals create a musical experience that is both exhilarating and somewhat frightening as they thread through sharp, energizing rhythms.
The work has amazing technical mastery with practically living energy in dynamic progressions that seem to pulse and breathe. Every layer of sound is painstakingly created to guarantee the tune stays in the listener’s awareness long after the last notes fade.
The whole 2-track EP Flames of Emotions
Maintaining the EP’s central atmospheric intensity, the second track, “From Within,” adopts a quite different approach. The music is set to be an instant favorite in underground techno venues with a powerful, percussive rhythm and fluttering beats. Its dark, edgy undertones lead dancers into a spiraling trip into a trance-like condition.

This song distinguishes itself by skillful balancing of simple intensity with complex emotional depth. The Element has expertly combined their signature approach with a strong, almost spectral intensity to turn the tune from a simple dance number into a very immersive experience.
“Flames of Emotions” is a statement about the possibilities of techno as an art medium rather than only a musical release. The Element asks listeners to experience music as an emotional landscape rather than only sound by combining ghostly vocals, intricate atmospheric layers, and exact rhythmic rhythms.
UNSEEN Records keeps proving why electronic music world considers it as a cutting-edge label to be innovative. This record highlights their dedication to musicians who are ready to blur boundaries, experiment, and produce songs that really, almost psychologically speak to you.
“Flames of Emotions” is a must listen for anybody looking for a techno experience outside conventional dance music. Inviting listeners to lose themselves in its complex, eerie soundworld, it promises to be among the most mysterious and captivating releases of the year.

Among the influential artists responsible for pushing neurofunk, Agressor Bunx truly is a household name, if not for years already.
It’s even safe to say the forward-thinking Ukrainian duo has played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of the subgenre throughout roughly 12 years of involvement – their releases so far, after all, total to a staggering amount of more than 40 EPs and four albums.
A recent migration to Poland, followed by a mandatory visit to a drum and bass event in Kraków, called Neurodydaktyka, meant being reintroduced to their highly energetic sound and stellar deck-craft. This called for a round of questions about their current situation and mindset.
There’s plenty to discuss as well. Agressor Bunx’ most recent EP, Chasing the Horizon, was recently released on Eatbrain, marking their tenth EP on the renowned label founded by Jade. Besides, the last interview on UKF with the duo dates back more than eight  years, and a lot has happened since then.
What’s more- the current situation for the scene in Ukraine, and how they have been dealing with the challenges involved, deserves attention. So without further ado, read on to hear their take on these matters.
It’s been eight years, since the last time you spoke with UKF – what would be the proudest achievement for you both during those years?
Both: We were able to do a ton of work during these years in terms of producing and the DJing part, too. Meanwhile, we have had an opportunity to release on almost all the famous
Neurofunk labels, like Ram Records, Eatbrain, Blackout, Bad Taste and others.
On top of that, we made remixes for, and did collaborations with, many respected producers, like The Upbeats, Audio, Black Sun Empire. We also got the chance to play on the biggest European Festivals like Let It Roll and Rampage.
The tenth EP release on Eatbrain – Chasing The Horizon – arrived in November. Congratulations on that milestone. Can you tell us more about the creative process behind it. What really stands out in terms of the approach to make this one?
Nick: Our Last EP was difficult for us to make, because we were spending a lot of time on travelling to gigs. These trips often took something like 30 to 40 hours in just one direction. So we decided to spend this time on making music. It was far from comfortable, but it gave us huge inspiration to do so, while being on the road.
This EP still is only a small part of the dozens of releases you’ve done as Agressor Bunx. How do you manage to keep evolving and pushing creatively after all these years?
Alex: We try to analyse everything that’s going on in drum and bass culture, especially Neurofunk scene, because it develops every day, and you must be informed about new trends and what people recognise.
Working together as a duo – how does it help in terms of coming up with new things?
Nick: Actually, it is really simple. Because, music for us is not only a job or hobby; it is our life and passion. We both try to make our own idea of a track, which gives us the opportunity to make totally different content simultaneously. And we also start to work on new tracks separately, but always end up finishing them together. It helps us to maintain our ‘AB approach’.
What’s the best advice you can give based on your experience as a producer duo to other aspiring duo producers in the scene.
Both: In our opinion, the most important thing is creativity. It’s about trying to put some unique things inside your project together. Also, really focusing on the quality of the mix down is key – it gives you better quality production. Staying active on social media is also essential.
It’s been a while since the last album, Ensuing Cataclysm, was released. Can we expect another one anytime soon? What can you tell us about the plans to release another one?
Alex: It would be a great idea for 2025. But let’s see…
So what’s next for Agressor Bunx in terms of upcoming releases?
Both: We already planned some new releases on couple of labels, but it will remain a secret for now!
A subject that deserves to be addressed: the war in your country has been ongoing for more than 1000 days. Political matters aside – how has the ongoing war in Ukraine impacted the drum and bass scene in the country.
Alex: The war has affected the scene really hard, due to different reasons. A lot of people can’t afford to have fun, go to the parties, or even eat. And then there are moral reasons not to be partying, because a lot of people are dying in another part of the country.
There are also missile attacks on power plants. There is a curfew in Ukraine and promoters are forced to hold daytime parties. It’s a big risk to host and not to lose money while doing so. But still, some promoters keep doing it to support the drum and bass culture in Ukraine.
Can you describe how the party scene has responded to these ongoing challenges.
Nick: People are positive, stay strong and just waiting for the end of war.
Have there been any significant changes in the way music is produced and distributed during wartime?
Alex: Not really, just some small things like no electricity sometimes, air alarms etc.
How have the challenges of the war influenced the creativity and output of Ukrainian drum and bass artists?
Nick: In the first year of war, it was almost impossible to make music, but life continues and people eventually learn to adapt.
How has the war personally affected you as artists and individuals?
Both: On a personal level, we began to value our lives more and started to pay more attention to our family and friends. As for the artist part – we try to spend all of our free time for music creation, and spread awareness about the Ukrainian situation.
How does the war influence the way you travel abroad to play events?
Nick: At first it was difficult, because we could not go abroad. Once we started to travel, it was hard to grasp the massive difference between Ukrainian situation inside the country and the one in peaceful Europe. But eventually you accept it and continue to do your job.
Has the experience of living through war influenced your music and creative processes?
Nick: Totally, the emotional changes and stress actually give you more inspiration to create some ideas.
What are your hopes for the future of the Ukrainian drum and bass scene?
Alex: We hope that after the war in Ukraine, people will start living a normal life again, and be able to listen to their favourite music and go to parties. It will help the drum and bass scene to develop and grow. There will also be an opportunity to invite more international artists and host some festivals.
Are there any specific initiatives or projects you want to highlight that support the scene’s recovery and growth in Ukraine and deserve support?
Alex: For now, in Ukraine we have promo groups, like: Funkmasters, Hovanka, Sounds of Ukraine (based in London, UK). Big respect to them for their work in these hard times. We would like to see more activity from other promo-groups, though.
Lastly, what message do you want to convey to your international audience through your music and performances?
Nick: Just have fun, appreciate every moment of your life, value the creativity and enjoy it to the fullest.

Armin van Buuren has released this year's "A State of Trance Year Mix 2024," reinforcing his standing as one of the genre's most influential flag-bearers.
Now in its 21st iteration, the mix show continues to serve as a sweeping narrative of trance's evolution. Featuring 113 meticulously curated songs, the 2024 mix opens with a stirring introduction narrated by Moby, whose words encourage listeners to embrace the transformative power of the genre.
Armin van Buuren's own productions shine throughout, including the "Club Mix" of his collaboration with Goodboys, "Forever (Stay Like This)," which reimagines the radio-friendly original hit with soaring synths to fit seamlessly within the mold. Other standout cuts include Ben Gold’s "Diving Faces," a stomping, euphoric track brimming with uplifting energy, contrasted with the weightier Kolonie remix of Paul van Dyk’s classic “For An Angel,” which breathes new life into a timeless anthem.
The versatile track selection appropriately captures the true qualities of trance: timeless, dynamic and ever-evolving. Beyond showcasing his own versatility, van Buuren uses the mix to celebrate the genre's diversity with contributions from trance icons like Above & Beyond, Aly & Fila and Ferry Corsten alongside newcomers who seek to write the genre's next chapter.

Thanks so much for taking the time to speak with us. How are you? How has your 2024 been? What have been the highlights? Any resolutions or goals for the New Year?
I’m doing great, thank you! Always busy, always energized, and always looking forward to what’s next.
2024 has been amazing so far. Highlights for me include playing massive shows all around the world, such as EDC Vegas, EDC Mexico, Electric Forest, Transmission Australia, Tomorrowland Brazil, and many incredible venues in the United States and Europe. I’ve also loved connecting with fans through music. Between touring, I’ve been experimenting in the studio, producing and collaborating on tracks with Moby and other exciting projects that I’ll release soon.
My goal for the New Year is to keep performing globally, push boundaries with my sound, and bring fresh, powerful experiences to my fans through cross-genre productions.
Tell us about your musical heritage. What drove you toward electronic music, specifically your end of the dance music spectrum?
I grew up with a deep love for psytrance and trance music. I first discovered psytrance at around age 8, thanks to my older brother, who was a producer and DJ at the time. Something clicked instantly. I loved the energy, the storytelling, and the way it could transport people to another dimension. From that moment, I knew this was what I wanted to create and share with the world.
Who were your biggest influences and inspirations growing up and even now?
Growing up, artists like Infected Mushroom, Yahel, and Tiësto were huge inspirations for me. They showed me what was possible in electronic music. Today, I draw inspiration from all over—pioneers like Moby and innovative new-generation producers who are pushing limits in creative ways.
You head up your own WELVRAVE label. What is the story behind it, and what are you trying to portray through the label? What’s the ethos?
WELVRAVE is all about freedom of expression. The idea came from wanting a platform to represent both my vision and the incredible talent within the psytrance and electronic music community. It’s about pushing boundaries, blending styles, and uniting rave culture in a way that feels authentic and fresh.
How did the collaboration with Moby come about? What impact has he had on your career?
Collaborating with Moby was a dream come true. He’s such a legend, and his work has shaped electronic music for decades. I had the honor, together with Berg, of reimagining one of his classics, Lift Me Up. It’s a track we’ve both loved for years, and this collaboration sparked a creative synergy between us.
We aimed to bring a fresh touch with melodic and progressive elements while maintaining the high-intensity energy that psytrance is known for. Striking a balance between staying true to Moby’s emotive essence and injecting our sound design was key.
What advice would you give to a young, up-and-coming producer wanting to start their own label?
Start with a clear vision. Know what your label stands for and the kind of talent you want to represent. Building a strong network and understanding the business side of music is crucial. Above all, stay consistent and passionate—it will shine through in your work.
What are your three favorite trance tracks?
That’s tough! If I had to choose:
Infected Mushroom – Deeply Disturbed Yahel – Voyage Faithless – Insomnia (still gives me goosebumps every time). What has been your favorite gig to play so far in your career?
There are so many memorable ones, but Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, with Seven Lions, stands out. The venue is breathtaking—a natural amphitheater carved into towering red sandstone cliffs. The acoustics and atmosphere are unmatched. The stage is nestled between massive rock formations, and the audience is seated on tiers following the natural slope of the landscape. It was an unforgettable mix of nature, energy, and sound.
What would be your dream gig?
After touring for over 10 years, I’ve been lucky to play at some of the world’s most incredible venues, in every size and format imaginable. For me, the ultimate goal isn’t one specific gig—it’s about sharing psytrance music with wider, more diverse audiences and spreading positive energy wherever I go. As long as I’m doing what I love, every gig feels like a dream.
What do you do to relax outside of DJing and producing?
I love spending time with family and friends. I’m lucky to live just five minutes from the ocean, where I often go to unwind. I also enjoy hiking, exploring nature, and discovering new cuisines—I’m definitely a bit of a foodie!
What music do you listen to outside of the dance music spectrum?
I enjoy music from the past, especially alternative rock classics from my childhood, like Linkin Park and Red Hot Chili Peppers. I also love old-school hip-hop and R&B. Beyond that, I explore world music and chillout ambient sounds—they’re perfect for resetting my mind and finding balance.
What was the last record that blew you away?
John Summit & Sub Focus – Go Back (ft. Julia Church). The blend of genres in one track is mind-blowing. It reminds me why I love electronic music so much. This approach, blending styles, is something I’ve believed in and done for years, especially in collaboration with Seven Lions and the Ophelia Records artists.

Imagine never having to deal with dropped calls or spotty reception again. T-Mobile and Starlink are teaming up to make this a reality through direct-to-cell satellite technology. With over 300 satellites already in orbit, T-Mobile is now inviting its customers to register for a beta test of this groundbreaking service set to launch early next year. This partnership marks a significant step forward in the quest to eliminate mobile dead zones and provide seamless connectivity for all T-Mobile users.
For festivals, it’s hard to overstate just how huge this could be. While some festivals have figured out connectivity, there are still many festivals where texts, DMs, stories, or any data use don’t work at all. This nightmare situation creates chaos for everybody who can’t find each other and makes the festival much more of a chore than it should be.
By harnessing the power of direct-to-cell satellites, T-Mobile and Starlink are revolutionizing the way we stay connected. Whether you’re a business owner, a first responder, or simply someone who relies on their phone for everyday tasks, this beta test offers an exciting opportunity to experience the future of mobile communication firsthand.
“T-Mobile Starlink is the first major low-earth orbit constellation in the world paired with terrestrial cellular spectrum, making the phone in your pocket work in areas of the U.S. that have never, and probably never will, have ground based coverage,” said Mike Katz, President of Marketing, Strategy and Products, T-Mobile.
How Does It Work?
The direct-to-cell satellite service operates by beaming signals from satellites directly to users’ mobile devices, bypassing the need for traditional cell towers. This approach eliminates the limitations of terrestrial infrastructure and enables seamless coverage across vast areas, including rural and underserved regions.
By leveraging Starlink’s cutting-edge satellite technology, T-Mobile can provide a robust and reliable connection to its customers, regardless of their location. This means fewer dropped calls, faster data speeds, and a more consistent user experience overall. The beta test will allow T-Mobile to gather feedback from users and fine-tune the service to meet the needs of a diverse range of customers.
As direct-to-cell satellite technology continues to evolve, the possibilities for mobile connectivity are endless. From enabling seamless video calls in remote areas to supporting IoT devices in smart cities, this technology has the potential to transform the way we communicate and connect with the world around us.
Who Can Participate?
All T-Mobile customers, including businesses and first responders, are eligible to register for the beta launch of the direct-to-cell satellite service. This inclusive approach ensures that a wide range of users can experience the benefits of improved connectivity and seamless communication.
For businesses, the direct-to-cell satellite service offers the potential for enhanced productivity and efficiency. With reliable coverage in even the most remote locations, employees can stay connected no matter where they are. This is especially crucial for industries that rely on real-time communication, such as construction, transportation, and emergency services.
First responders also stand to benefit significantly from this innovative technology. In emergency situations where every second counts, having reliable communication can make all the difference. By participating in the beta test, first responders can help shape the future of mobile connectivity and ensure that they have the tools they need to save lives. Register HERE!

Editor's Note: EDM.com proudly publishes four installments of annual year-end coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances & DJ Sets, Music Producers and Songs.
More often than not, year-end coverage published by the music industry's vast pool of media outlets is limited to its artists and performers.
To honor the extraordinary work of the industry's unsung people and brands, EDM.com annually recognizes a group of leaders whose contributions redefined dancefloors and helped shape the future of electronic dance music.
Record Label: Experts Only
Forged in the crucible of a late-2023 rebrand, John Summit's Experts Only imprint emerged with a clarity of vision that few could match this year.
From releases like Max Styler's "Lights Out" and Chris Avantgarde and Kevin de Vries' "Killa," the label was a primary driver of the conversation about the ever-evolving boundaries of tech house music. Summit's own debut album, Comfort In Chaos, arrived mid-year as a tour de force of emotion and experimentation, bolstered by standout remixes like Cassian's stunning take on "Shiver" and YDG's transformative remix of "Go Back."
The label's ambitions also extended far beyond its music, with the Experts Only Ski Weekender in Vail curating a groundbreaking fusion of slope-side adventures and dancefloors. Inspired by Summit's own passion for skiing, the event brought the label’s ethos to life: bold, unflinching and deeply connected to its audience.
In one short year, Experts Only emerged as a creative force that respects the roots of house music while fearlessly carving out its own future, setting a high bar for what it means to lead with vision and purpose.

Club: Club Space
A cornerstone of global club culture, Miami's Club Space isn't an ordinary venue—it's a rite of passage.
In 2024, the venue's ethos of "the party never ends" was tested and proven when it closed for three months of structural renovations. Even in its absence, the Space legacy loomed large as Factory Town held down the scene while fans restlessly waited. When the fall finally arrived, Space's reopening party, headlined by Peggy Gou, reminded us why this 2,000-capacity spot holds an outsized influence in the dance music community.
From a marathon 36-hour Miami Music Week closing party featuring Carlita, Marco Carola and more to a 24-hour Art Basel closing party with 23 DJs from 13 countries, Space was a seedbed of club culture. The venue isn't just about major festival weekends—it snaps into action for cultural events like Formula One Race Week, when Black Coffee and MEDUZA dazzled behind the decks. Now, Tiësto is primed for a rare "Sunrise" set in January 2025.
Club Space's significance transcends its size, earning its place as a destination where DJs from around the globe gather to create something extraordinary. And in 2024, its organizers continued to live up to their prevailing tenet: whether it's 3am, sunrise or mid-morning, they've got your back.

Music Company: Vita Motus
For the idealistic minds behind the producers of music festivals, one question often gnaws like a spider in the brain: can a stage be more than just a platform? For Vita Motus, the design studio behind Coachella's groundbreaking Quasar stage, it's a resounding "yes."
Led by its ambitious founder and CEO, Heather Shaw, Vita Motus has executed phantasmagoric stages for EDC, Electric Forest and Lightning in a Bottle, among other major festivals. But she found herself in a three-month pressure cooker ahead of Coachella, where the studio was tasked with building a universe unto itself.
The stage's monolithic LED walls, Shaw told EDM.com back in April, were designed "to push the boundaries of what's possible at music festivals." Her team ultimately delivered, establishing a bastion of iconoclastic festival design within Coachella's hallowed desert metropolis.
The stage became the epicenter of EDM at the nation's most iconic music festival, which in 2024 teemed with unforgettable rave moments. Fans willingly plunged into the rabbit holes of innovative three-hour DJ sets by RÜFÜS DU SOL and a cancer-free Michael Bibi, among other influential electronic acts. Eric Prydz and Anyma, two of the industry's most subversive creators of visual displays, also performed together for the first time as the sun set.
To that end, Quasar dissolved the boundaries between electronic music and performative spectacle, reimagining the inert concert stage as a living, breathing organism.

Music Executive: Cindy Charles
Cindy Charles didn’t just change how we hear electronic dance music this year. She changed how we feel it—both together and apart.
Charles tragically died in October following a traffic accident during the Amsterdam Dance Event, the world's leading electronic music summit. But before we lost Twitch's trailblazing Head of Music, she led the development of the platform's pioneering DJ category, a breakthrough that established it as the first to provide a long-term home for DJs to legally livestream.
Charles, a visionary agent of change in the intersection of music and technology, redefined how artists and creators engage with audiences online. She remains revered for leading Twitch's label relations and music licensing operations, fostering an ecosystem that enables DJs to build fanbases and achieve financial freedom on the platform.
In addition to fiercely championing rave culture, Charles was also an unshakeable advocate for women in the music industry. She co-founded the San Francisco chapter of She Is The Music as well as Women In Digital, a community of over 1,500 members with a mission "to help women define a limitless future for all by shining a light on careers in digital and technology."

Event Organizer: Breakaway Music Festival
Breakaway didn't just host music festivals in 2024—it created destinations at scale.
Breakaway lived up to its name in 2024, leaving competitors in its dust as it became the nation's preeminent traveling EDM festival. The event's organizers are now poised to expand to a bevy of new markets in 2025, swelling to a staggering 12 cities.
That kind of growth was a white whale for independent festivals in 2024, a time when inflationary pressures hiked operating costs to prohibitive levels. Nevertheless, Breakaway managed to become the fastest-growing music festival brand in the country, due in part to their knack for blending high-profile headliners with undiscovered talent in lineups that felt both elite and accessible, a rare feat in a crowded market.
Breakaway's influence, however, is greater than the sum of its dozen parts. The brand supercharged its sustainability efforts by partnering with Zero Waste Event Productions, a leading provider of recycling, composting and waste management services, to divert from landfills over 25,000 pounds of recyclable materials, including harmful plastics.
Breakaway's proprietors also recently announced that all of their 2025 festivals will accept cryptocurrency as payment, mirroring its ethos of progress and inclusivity to foster a new kind of freedom on and off the dancefloor. "As the music industry continues to evolve, we’re committed to adapting to the needs of our fans and staying ahead of the curve," said co-founder and CEO Adam Lynn.

Visual Artist: Tobias Gremmler
Tobias Gremmler's larger-than-life artistry was impossible to ignore in 2024, imbued with an almost intangible quality that connected deeply with Afterlife's broadening global audience.
His work with Anyma on the superstar DJ's tour and sophomore album, Genesys II, transformed towering LED screens into portals, immersing fans in haunting spaces where the boundaries between performer and participant disintegrated. Blending Afterlife’s iconic dual themes of robotics and nature, Gremmler's awe-inspiring visual concepts captivated audiences in high-profile venues from Los Angeles to Miami to Amsterdam, threading an ineffable emotional connection amidst the grandeur of stadium-scale productions.
Anticipation is now building for Anyma's historic Las Vegas Sphere New Year's Eve show and residency, "The End of Genesys," which will see Gremmler's transhumanist visual designs envelop the record-breaking venue for its first-ever electronic music shows. His creative direction is ambitious by all accounts, and it's reshaping how we experience and engage with EDM's most transcendent performances.

What do butterfly houses, Y2K vampires, frat parties, robot uprisings, Florida men, murder mysteries and 2010s EDM all have in common? They’re all themes for Book Club Radio’s epic parties—err, "meetings"—in 2024.
Each theme is truly immersive: the DJs curate mixes to fit each, the crowds dress up for the part and the backdrops are filled with madcap props often hand-built by the Book Club Radio crew. The feverish fandom around their YouTube channel is a testament to the fresh perspective that the Brooklyn-based collective, founded by the inimitable Jojo Lorenzo, is bringing to dancefloors.

Audio Engineer: A. G. Cook
When Charli xcx recorded her global hit "360" and said, "You gon' jump if A. G. made it," she was sending a message.
One of hyperpop's most influential producers, A. G. Cook has made a name for himself crafting music for international superstars like Beyoncé, Hikaru Utada and Caroline Polachek. While that pedigree is impressive in its own right, his brilliant work on Charli's viral sensation, Brat, may go down as his finest.
Serving as an executive producer of Brat and vocal engineer of most of its tracks, Cook propelled his longtime collaborator's latest album not only to the top of the charts, but also to the lime green-colored pinnacle of pop culture. There would be no "brat summer" without him.
Cook's work on Brat led the album to a staggering seven Grammy nominations, including Album Of The Year, Best Dance/Electronic Album, Record Of The Year ("360") and Best Pop Solo Performance ("Apple").

Artist Management: Metatone
In an impressive seven-year period, Metatone founders Holt Harmon and Parker Cohen have built an independent management powerhouse. And in 2024, the firm set new standards for driving success in the house music world.
Their secret? A results-driven, holistic approach and wealth of resources that help DJs reach new audiences. Since bringing John Summit aboard during the company's formative years, Metatone has cultivated a formidable roster of producers that includes Max Styler, Ranger Trucco, Deeper Purpose and Layton Giordani.
Its commitment to fostering both the wellness and creative freedom of its roster remains at the heart of its philosophy. Through the expansion of Metatone Media, the company provided its artists with tailored support in branding, touring logistics and content creation, empowering them to focus on crafting groundbreaking house music.
And that they did. From Summit's stratospheric debut album Comfort in Chaos to Giordani's rare official remix of deadmau5's "Strobe" to Max Styler's prolific run of tech house hits, Metatone broke out this year. Its proprietors also worked diligently to position their artists at the cutting-edge, like when Summit sold out Madison Square Garden.

Music PR: Falcon Publicity
In just five years, Falcon Publicity has managed to become one of the leading forces in media relations within the mercurial world of electronic dance music. It's the brainchild of PR vet Alexandra Greenberg, whose decades of expertise have led her to acquire a remarkable roster of artists, brands and events in that short time.
Deeply influential electronic artists like deadmau5, Kraftwerk, Richie Hawtin and Kaskade all call Falcon home. The firm had its talons on the pulse of dance music in 2024, executing a slew of innovative, high-profile campaigns that propelled it to the industry's corps d'elite.
One was HAYLA, whose stentorian vocals dominated playlists and music festivals all year. After collaborating with John Summit, Kx5, Kygo and MEDUZA, the surging singer-songwriter broke out as a solo artist with the help of Greenberg, who ran press for her scintillating debut album, DUSK.
And then there's techno superstar Anyma, who in 2024 announced he'd be the first electronic music artist to perform inside the record-breaking Las Vegas Sphere. What started out as a single New Year's Eve performance quickly snowballed into a historic DJ residency with enough audiovisual specs to change the fabric of Sin City raving—and Falcon is shaping the narrative.

In a surprising move, Aphex Twin actually made it easier for fans to find his music.
The most mysterious man in electronic music has made it extremely difficult to collect his entire discography, with an abundance of music floating around the internet but no way for fans to trace it back to him or verify its authenticity. For many years he'd release special tracks exclusively on vinyl, which could only be purchased at a singular tour date or festival appearance.
Aphex Twin has now gathered 38 recordings—previously released only on wax from 2016-2023—and uploaded them to streaming services. The new compilation, Music From The Merch Desk (2016-2023), is out now on Warp Records.
The first two tracks were released as part of his Day For Night Festival performance while the final five were sold at London's Field Day Festival. Included in the new album is a remix from his alter ego, AFX, amongst other masterfully produced offerings from the artist who leaves more questions than answers. It marks the second re-release of the year from Aphex Twin following October's reprint of Selected Ambient Works Volume II.
