As we come to the end of the year, many artists take this time to reflect on what has come in the 12 months prior, but that is not the case with STVN LEON as he continues to unleash some awesome tunes for us to enjoy at this holiday season.
Fresh from the release of his previous single on Don Diablo‘s Generation HEX record label, Chicago-based artist STVN LEON offers up a brand new two track solo EP containing singles ‘Voices’ and ‘In My Mind’. The EP opens with ‘Voices’, a single which is loaded with upfront kicks and a rolling bassline. ‘In My Mind’ then follows & closes out the EP with more of his trademark production.
To date, STVN LEON has also picked up support from the likes of Marshmello on his track ‘Partyline’ with Basura Boyz, Yves V, StoneBridge, and Don Diablo. Showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, this upward trajectory is going to continue in 2025.

Kasablanca has quickly risen through the ranks of Dance music must-see acts over the past four years. Launching into the scene with their first singles in 2020, they struck gold with their hit collaboration with Lane 8, ‘Run’ which has been streamed over 40M times. They haven’t looked back since. The duo’s journey has been explosive over the years since their first Human Learning EP in 2020. Kasablanca are widely known for their enthralling live performances. The duo has played some of the world’s most well-known venues and festivals. These include Printworks, Coachella, Red Rocks and The Gorge, alongside shows across four continents. Their songs include features on BBC Radio 1 and SiriusXM, the latter bringing in a #1 hit on BPM with ‘Run’. With the Side A release of their debut album, Higher Resolution, Kasablanca now take their next step on their meteoric rise.

EDMTunes caught up with the duo (Micky & Viktor) for the Mumbai (India) leg of the Higher Resolution tour.
Excerpts :
Your highly acclaimed Higher Resolution Tour was a success. How do you foresee things panning forward?
We are focused on creating quality music over the coming years starting with ‘Side B’ of ‘Higher Resolution’. The overall experience to the audience is at the forefront of our future shows. This is the prime agenda that rules the principle of our shows and tours (both past and future).

Mickey, we know you have personally endured a difficult time over the last year (after being diagnosed with cancer towards the end of 2023). How does it feel to be back?
It feels surreal. Never had I felt so motivated before. Expect a lot of new music and subsequent tours coming up.

Kasablanca are reputed to fuse multiple elements of Progressive House, Techno, New Wave, etc, into an innovative sound of their own. How did you master the art of the same?
It is a creative process that we have started experimenting with some years ago. This has slowly evolved over the years based on reactions and subsequent feedback we have received from the crowd and artists alike across the globe.

The complexity of the Kasablanca sound is somewhat unique, we have particularly noticed on ‘Human Learning’ and ‘Higher Resolution’. Any comments?
We just try to do what we do best. The trust for things to fall into their own place through the process is what we believe in. Takes a lot of patience & perseverance at times, but it is OK, given that we like and believe in the end product.

Lastly, when is ‘Side B’ of ‘Higher Resolution’ coming out?
2025 for sure!

Any tentative month we should be looking at?
Naah, we just want it to be perfect!

Malaa’s Alter Ego is ending 2024 with a bang, dropping his latest adrenaline-fueled track, ‘Psycho,’ and shaking up the music world in time for the new year. The release is poised to make waves not only in the Drum & Bass scene but also in the harder Techno community, seamlessly bridging the gap between both genres with its intense, energetic fusion.
In collaboration with Irah, ‘Psycho’ introduces a Mid-Tempo groove that blends seamlessly into Malaa’s heavy basslines. Irah’s gritty, deep vocals cut through the track, adding a layer of sharpness that complements Malaa’s driving beats. Known for his ability to blend heavy, bass-driven sound with distinct, reggae rhythms, Irah brings a unique energy to ‘Psycho,’ giving it the kind of raw, unfiltered vibe that keeps crowds moving.
Irah, a standout talent emerging from the UK’s Drum & Bass community, has already made a huge impact with his platinum-selling top 5 hit ‘Baddadan’ and over 250 million streams worldwide. Irah has firmly established himself as one of the most exciting new names in the music industry. His mission to inject deeper cultural layers into Drum & Bass has solidified his place as one of the genre’s most innovative voices. In their new collaboration, both Irah and Malaa’s Alter Ego bring immense energy to the table. This collaboration elevates the track to new heights, pushing the boundaries of Drum & Bass with their combined power and style.
With a waterfall of new singles from Malaa and his Alter Ego, the battle is not over yet. With the release of this massive new track, Malaa’s Alter Ego is set to embark on his own journey. This track marks the beginning of a new chapter, just ahead of his much-appreciated U.S. tour in January 2025, where fans will experience both Malaa and his Alter Ego. The tour promises to bring the battle to the stage and will be one of the most exciting acts in the EDM scene.
About Malaa’s Alter Ego
Malaa’s Alter Ego is the rebellious counterpart to the masked French DJ and producer, born out of the need to disrupt the status quo in the Electronic music scene. While Malaa is known for his deep, darker House sound and enigmatic persona, his Alter Ego breaks free from those constraints, challenging both the music industry and Malaa himself. This new identity is outspoken, chaotic, and unfiltered, taking a more experimental approach to Electronic music, blending genres and sounds that are a step away from the signature Malaa style. Malaa’s Alter Ego represents a new chapter, bringing raw, unpredictable energy to the stage and also online, where it has already taken over Malaa’s social media, stirring controversy and inviting fans to “choose a side”. With this daring project, Malaa’s Alter Ego seeks to push boundaries and create a new space in the world of Electronic music where rules are meant to be broken.

Spotify has become one of the most profitable streaming platforms in the music industry. In 2024, Its executive team including CEO Daniel Ek had their biggest Spotify stock payout. This massive pile of cash came out to over a billion dollars. It is no surprise its financial model has faced constant backlash with concerns about how little artists are paid per stream. Recently, a popular tool, the Spotify Unwrapped calculator, was shut down after facing legal pressure from Spotify’s legal team.
The Spotify Unwrapped Calculator
The Spotify Unwrapped calculator is a straightforward online tool that uses the listener’s total streams of an artist, to calculate how much money they were paid for those streams. The formula was simple: multiplying an artist’s total streams by $0.003—the average amount Spotify paid per stream. The results are often eye-opening, especially for emerging artists. They quickly find out that the vast number of streams they accumulate often translates into just a few dollars in royalties.
The Message After the Shutdown
After the Spotify Unwrapped calculator was taken down, the creators left a message for all of its users. The site emphasizes that while the tool had been removed due to legal threats, the formula used to calculate artist payouts was still available. Users can use it to access and apply on their own.

The message highlights that despite Spotify’s efforts to suppress the tool, the push for artist compensation was far from over. It encouraged users to take action by joining the United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW). This is an advocacy group that fights for artists in the streaming era.

In essence, the calculator served as a heavy reminder of the challenges artists face in an increasingly digital music landscape. The shutdown only amplifies the need for a better financial model for artists who contribute to platforms like Spotify.

As 2024 comes to a close it’s time to look back on what has been a thrilling year in techno where there have been plenty of huge headlines.
Continuing on from 2023, Charlotte De Witte once again was crowned as the highest-ranking techno artist on the DJ Mag Top 100 DJ’s list climbing 2 spots to number 16. She has had another incredible year that has continued to establish her status as the queen of techno with her dropping ‘Roar’ which has fast become one of her biggest tracks along with having further development and success with her record label KNTXT. She also added to her long list of firsts as she became the first female and techno artist to close the mainstage of Tomorrowland Brazil where she enchanted the crowd with more of her awesome new music.
When it comes to firsts this year Oliver Heldens also had a big one as he would perform his first mainstage set under his HI LO alias at EDC Las Vegas. He performed this set alongside Eli Brown who has also been killing it this year most notably with his track ‘When I Push’ which has been blasting through speakers all around the world. 2024 has seen Heldens shift his focus over to his HI LO alias where he has thrived making some of the biggest techno tracks of the year such as ‘My Fantasy’ with Maddix, ‘Now Love Will Begin’ collaborating with Armin Van Buuren, and ‘Paradise’ alongside Danny Avila. Having had such a monumental rise throughout this year with his HI LO alias it’s exciting to see where he’ll go with it leading into next year.
Though if we’re talking about names in techno that have had massive development this year then of course we have to talk about this years techno sensation, Sara Landry. After gaining a lot of attention following her explosive Boiler Room set in 2023 which has gone on to amass 7.5 million views on YouTube, Landry has gone on to be one of the biggest names in electronic music this year. Back in July she made her Tomorrowland mainstage debut where she became the first ever hard techno artist to perform on the mainstage. With her insane amount of success this year she now finds herself on the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs list at number 75 and as the highest ranked hard techno artist. This year has also seen her release her debut album ‘Spiritual Driveby’ which has been an absolute sensation garnering over 23 million streams on Spotify already.
This year has even seen Reinier Zonneveld become a Guinness World Record holder for the longest electronic music live performance. He took to the stage at Karren Maar Festival for 11 hours and 11 minutes where he would make all the music live with synthesizers and drum computers through the entire set which is a monumental achievement. Throughout the year he has continued to release banger after banger with an impressive 6 of them passing the million-stream marker on Spotify with ‘Hard Kick Cheap Thrills’ taking the top spot for him with 1.4 million streams.
It has been an incredible year for techno artists and fans alike with amazing music coming out all year and some amazing moments. What’s been your favourite moment in techno this year?

“But inside, I was crying too…“
What if we closed the year on a slightly tangential note to our usual coverage? Have a look at this. Above & Beyond member Tony McGuinness, who you may know has a long and fruitful story in the music world, released a long-locked-away project of his halfway through the year, a Folk/Rock album titled Salt. And just before the year is over, both he and his team decided they’d give a little more love to one of the best-received songs of the album: ‘Crying‘.
They’ve now released the single on its own, own artwork and all, to give the corresponding starring role to a track which stuck with listeners of the body of work around the world. I’d understand the feeling: from what’s perhaps my most played album this year, ‘Crying’ is, also, my favourite track.
‘Crying’
About the single, Tony recalls, “Crying was my first attempt to write a song on the piano, and I think the nature of writing on the piano tends to make the whole thing sound more traditional, at least for me. And so I decided to write a more traditional song, but with a sort of twist at the end which is a classic songwriting motif“.
Falling slightly outside the whole Shelley connection of the concept behind Salt, given the fact that this particular song was not born from recalling moments in the relationship of both, “it’s a nice traditional song about a man not showing his emotions. And while it wasn’t strictly written about Shelley, I always felt it deserved to be on the album“.
(If you don’t get the whole Shelley connection, have a look at this lovely interview Tony and us had some time ago, in which we talk about the album, and a handful of other things — even ironing.)
Nevertheless, the lyrics are not completely disjointed from Shelley. T adds, “When we said goodbye at Gatwick Airport, I probably lost a stone in tears“. ‘Crying’ gives a bit of an insight into the male response of simply not breaking down when situations call for it, not meaning that it isn’t painful or tear-inducing, instead being a reflex some of us involuntarily exercise. Not crying, says Tony, is “something that men tend to be very good at“.

Celebrating Illenium’s 34th Birthday
On December 26, 1990, the world was introduced to one of electronic music’s most influential figures—Nicholas Daniel Miller, better known by his stage name, Illenium. Born in Downers Grove, Illinois, Illenium’s early life was shaped by a diverse range of experiences. He spent much of his childhood in Chicago but also lived in Seattle and France before ultimately settling down in Denver, Colorado where he resides now and continues developing his passion for music.
The Beginnings of a Musical Journey
Illenium’s passion for music took root in his teenage years, but it wasn’t until he first attended a concert at the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado that he truly began to take music seriously. Inspired by the powerful energy of live electronic music, he soon started producing his own remixes, followed by original tracks and EPs. His breakthrough came in 2016 with the release of his debut album, Ashes. The album not only showcased his signature blend of melodic bass and emotional depth but also marked the beginning of his touring career across the U.S.
A
In 2017, Illenium followed up with a sophomore release, Awake, an album that further established his reputation as a leading force in melodic bass music. The album featured collaborations with artists such as Seven Lions, Gryffin, and Nevve, adding layers of emotional depth and melodic complexity to his sound. Tracks like Good Things Fall Apart and Crawl Outta Love became instant fan favorites, further proving Illenium’s place at the forefront of the melodic scene. Awake proved to be a major milestone, earning him widespread recognition and opening doors for larger festival performances and international tours.

In 2019, Illenium released his third studio album, Ascend. This album marked a sonic evolution, blending ethereal melodies with even more expansive, anthemic production. Songs like Crashing and Heavenly Side resonated with fans for their emotional intensity, while collaborations with Jon Bellion and the Chainsmokers expanded Illenium’s audience even further.
Following the release of Ascend, Illenium took the opportunity to honor his musical journey with a special trilogy of performances at the newly constructed Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. These shows, held across three dates—July 3, 2021; June 17, 2023 in Colorado; and the final set at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles (2024) —celebrated his body of work from each album era. Each set was dedicated to one of his albums (Ashes, Awake, and Ascend), giving fans a unique opportunity to experience the evolution of his sound live. These performances were not only a visual and auditory spectacle but also a moment of personal reflection, marking the transition into his next phase of musical exploration.
Recognition and Legacy
Illenium’s career has been marked by numerous accolades and achievements, solidifying his place as a leader in the dance and electronic music world. In 2022, his album Fallen Embers won the Grammy Award for Best Dance/Electronic Album, adding to an ever-growing list of nominations and honors for his singles and albums. The very first DJ show at the acclaimed Sphere Las Vegas is tomorrow night! Given the cultural significance of this mini-residency and the fact that the Sphere may represent the future of live entertainment, it’s not surprising that Anyma is planning much more than a typical DJ set for this show. We knew the show was called The End of Genesys, but that’s all we knew. We expected some crazy visuals, but now we’re getting a sense for how expansive the show will be.
Anyma took to social media to hype up the show as “A Cybernetic Opera”, whatever that means. The post made clear that this show is going to be something more akin to the Swedish House Mafia world tour, Eric Prydz HOLO, or The Weeknd. We’re expecting bespoke stage designs, choreographic visuals to go with the music, and it would appear that the Anyma shows will convey some sort of narrative through the course of the show.
One of the photos in the post says that the “cybernetic opera” will have 4 acts, with blurred out descriptions beneath. First there is Genesys, then Humana, then End of Genesys, and finally Quantum. If you’re able to read it please let us know! The last interesting tidbit is that the show will include the world’s first robot cello duet, referring to it as a cybernetic performance. Will this be a physical robot or something purely in the digital realm? Only time will tell. We would not be surprised if we hear a ton of new music and an announcement of another album (Quantum?) during the show.
It’s worth reflecting on the themes that the Anyma project has explored to get an idea of where this is going. Anyma has consistently explored themes around nature and technology, specifically around human and artificial intelligence. The very first Anyma EP was titled Sentient EP. The first Anyma visuals revolved around the creation of humanoid robots, and there is a bit of a narrative over time as the robots become more advanced and then interact or merge with real human figures. Then other humanoid robots were introduced at various times. After a while it was hard to tell if there was still a cohesive narrative being told, but perhaps this show will bring it all into focus. We have a cast of characters (several even have names), both human and robot, and scenes that show the beginning of life, the singularity, love, war, the fusion of nature with technology, suffering, and even death. So I guess you could say we’re about to see a melodic techno DJ show version of Westworld.
We cannot wait!

Anyma’s much-awaited event series “The End of Genesys” at Las Vegas’s Sphere has been announced (lineup) as a four-act cybernetic opera, stretching the boundaries of live electronic music performance into hitherto unexplored terrain in an unparalleled mix of robots, electronic music, and philosophical investigation.
The news, which has rocked the electronic music scene, exposes an ambitious production including the first robotic cello duet, where Universal robots will accompany Anyma’s electronic soundscapes. This innovative way that robotics are incorporated into a live electronic music performance marks a new phase in the interaction of technology and artistic expression.
A Journey Through Four Acts of Evolution
The opera’s structure presents a meticulously planned narrative arc that investigates humanity’s connection with technology, consciousness, and existence itself. Each act acts as a chapter in this evolutionary saga, building upon Anyma’s recurring themes while pushing them into creative new terrain.
The opening act, “GENESYS: The Birth,” sets the foundation by examining the delicate intersection of humanity, technology, and nature. It promises to be an exploration of consciousness and digital existence, marking what Anyma describes as “the awakening of a new existence” where biological and artificial boundaries begin to blur.
In striking contrast, the second act, “HUMANA,” grounds the performance in raw human experience. This segment focuses on vulnerability and the tactile nature of human existence, offering what might be seen as a meditation on what we stand to preserve or lose in our technological evolution.
The third act, “END OF GENESYS,” represents the culmination of Anyma’s long-running narrative about artificial general intelligence and accelerationism. This segment poses perhaps the production’s most crucial question: can humanity find equilibrium with advancing AI, or are we witnessing the inevitable march of evolution beyond human control?
The final act, “QUANTUM,” projects us into a post-human future where consciousness exists in the cloud and artificial general intelligence has evolved to potentially divine proportions. Drawing inspiration from quantum theory, this closing chapter explores the possibility of a new form of existence where the digital and organic become indistinguishable.
The End of Genesys Anyma Cybernetic Opera The Anyma Manifesto: A Declaration of Artistic Intent
By means of this performance, Anyma seems to be boldly expressing her creative message regarding the direction of human awareness and our interaction with technology. Robotic musicians accompanying electronic music blur the boundaries between human creativity and machine execution, therefore physically expressing the themes of the show.
One may consider the creation as Anyma’s statement on human development and the direction of electronic music. Anyma pushes electronic music beyond simple enjoyment by organizing the event as a cybernetic opera, therefore turning it into a vehicle for investigating important issues concerning consciousness, technology, and the future of human life.
I’ll share the full transcript based on the information provided for each act, formatted as quotations:
ACT I – GENESYS:
ACT II – HUMANA:
ACT III – END OF GENESYS:
ACT IV – QUANTUM:
The Sphere
The decision to stage this enormous show in The Sphere is not random. The venue offers the ideal canvas for Anyma’s concept with its modern LED display and sophisticated Sphere Immersive Sound system run by HOLOPLOT. Robotic musicians combined with The Sphere’s technical skills offer a sensory experience pushing the edge of live performance.

Working with digital artists and directors Alessio De Vecchi, Tobias Gremmler, and Alexander Wessely, the visual components of the presentation will be as innovative as its conceptual framework promises. Their participation promises a visual story that would accentuate the intellectual ideas of the performance.
With 100,000 tickets already sold across six shows, the anticipation for this cybernetic opera demonstrates the electronic music community’s appetite for productions that push beyond traditional boundaries.
Whether humanity can indeed strike a balance with artificial intelligence remains to be seen, but through this ambitious production, Anyma is ensuring that electronic music plays a vital role in exploring these crucial questions about our collective future.

Drumcode Records has long been a pillar of excellence for independent record labels in the dance/electronic scene. Adam Beyer‘s imprint has been bringing techno to the masses since it was established in 1996, and now, 28 years later, it’s still going stronger than ever. Between the caliber of its releases and the rigorousness of its touring schedule this year, Drumcode further affirmed its status as one of the dance/electronic genre’s preeminent record labels, prompting its recognition as Dancing Astronaut‘s 2024 Label of the Year.
Drumcode’s 2024 release calendar reflects a balance of both quantity and quality. This is true not only of the productions, but also of the artists behind them; over the past year, Drumcode welcomed outputs from an accomplished cast of underground A-listers, including Eli Brown, HI-LO, Massano, Layton Giordani, Vintage Culture, Odd Mob, and of course, the label boss himself. Eight of the Beatport’s 10 top-selling Techno Peak artists released with the label this year, which, with its 130,000 sales on the Beatport store, led Drumcode to become the best-selling Techno Peak label on Beatport this year. Drumcode’s music was streamed for more than 155 hours across digital streaming platforms (DSPs) in 2024, a statistic that comes as no surprise, considering that releases like “When I Push” (Eli Brown, Layton Giordani, OFFAIAH), “PATT (Party All The Time) [Adam Beyer, Layton Giordani & Green Velvet Remix],” and “Simulator (Odd Mob Remix)” (Adam Beyer, Green Velvet), commanded both DSPs and the live circuit.
But no ironclad case for Label of the Year merely comes down to music, and naturally, for Drumcode, that’s just where the story begins. In dance/electronic’s live space, there are few — if any — labels that can match Drumcode’s robust international presence. Beyer’s stronghold featured in festivals across five continents, hosted a global, branded tour that included its first-ever stops across Asia, and held its biggest UK show to date (at The Drumsheds in March). In total, Drumcode sold more than 91,000 tickets to its branded events in 2024. While Drumcode’s inexhaustive list of quality releases helps solidify its candidacy as one of the year’s top labels, its vigorous touring schedule and overall prominence in the live sector ultimately cements its status as such.
However, it’s impossible to crown Drumcode as Dancing Astronaut‘s Label of the Year without acknowledging its equally impressive longevity. It’s remarkable that a label that has been around for nearly three decades years can still feel so fresh and so innovative, particularly in the dance/electronic scene, where this type of tenure is a true rarity. Yet even after all these years, Drumcode is still at the forefront of techno — a space that is as robust now as it ever has been — and as an independent label, no less, which is a true testament to Beyer and his team.
The label’s mission statement opens with, “Drumcode is more than a label, it’s a movement.” Although that sentiment rang true this year, Dancing Astronaut doesn’t give out a Movement of the Year award, so Drumcode will have to settle for the next best thing. Dancing Astronaut is proud to name Drumcode its 2024 Label of the Year.

A 3-day event meant to unwind and be free gone sour! One of South East Asia’s largest electronic dance music festivals, Djakarta Warehouse Project, is facing the heat due to excessive policing. This comes amid reports of intense safety and security measures amid its recent event. Patrons of the festival in Indonesia had taken to social media earlier sharing alleged aggressive rendezvous with local law enforcement authorities.

The allegations range from extortion to intense security checks, and verbal threats to the usage of excessive force. Even VIP attendees were not spared and were forced to abide by the implementation of rough measures. Several attendees expressed alarm and displeasure subject to the actions of certain officials. These actions seem to have eclipsed the actual purpose of the festive event, which was intended to be a memorial.
The organizers have circulated a public apology with a promise to address these concerns. It commits to investigating these allegations involving the local police. The organizers also assured us they would address the broader concerns about the overall festival security. Attendees are advised to report any incidents directly to festival organizers or the local authorities. They have in turn pledged to declare the findings of the investigation to the general public. These updates would also include any additional measures to be implemented for future festivals.

For now, attendees are still reeling under the nightmare of the dictatorial atmosphere created by the presence of an alleged count of 450 personnel.

Going into 2012 both Avicii and Nicky Romero were coming off the back of releasing possibly their most iconic tracks as in 2011 Avicii had dropped the iconic ‘Levels’ and Nicky Romero had released the legendary ‘Toulouse.’ When it came to this date 12 years ago they unveiled what is easily one of the best progressive house anthems ever. The timeless classic ‘I Could Be The One.’
The track was first unveiled in November of 2011 as an instrumental and would go under the working title of ‘NickTim’ which was a combination of both artists names. A year later the vocal version would see the light of day with uncredited vocals from Noonie Bao who would continue to collaborate with Avicii as she featured in ‘Always On The Run’ on the album ‘True.’ She would also give a very emotional performance on ‘Fades Away’ featured on Avicii’s posthumous album ‘Tim.’
Upon the release of ‘I Could Be The One’ it would achieve a great deal of commercial success as it hit number 1 in the charts in the UK and Hungary along with reaching the top 40 around most of the globe. The song has gone on to receive nearly half a billion streams on Spotify and Nicky Romero still plays it in his DJ sets accompanied by a tribute to Avicii. It would be an understatement to say that ‘I Could Be The One’ is just a great song. It’s a historic track that will always bring the summer party energy.

Set to be released in February, ‘LG7’ promises to be a diverse and genre-defying album that explores the chaotic nature of life and ultimately finds solace in love.
With her previous album, ‘Chromatica’, Gaga delved deep into dance music styles, working with acclaimed producers like Skrillex, Axwell, and Boys Noize. The remix album for ‘Chromatica’ also featured cutting-edge artists such as Arca, A. G. Cook, and Shygirl. Now, as she gears up for the release of ‘LG7’, fans are eagerly anticipating how she will continue to push the boundaries of pop music and deliver a sonic experience like no other.

Exploring Industrial Dance Music
Industrial dance music is a genre that fuses elements of industrial music with electronic dance beats, creating a dark and gritty sound that is both intense and captivating. Known for its pulsating rhythms, distorted vocals, and experimental production techniques, industrial dance music has been embraced by artists seeking to push the boundaries of conventional pop music.
“I loved learning about industrial music and about all the different crevices of electronic music,” she continued. “One of the things I’ve probably been judged for in my career was not sticking to one thing. But not sticking to one thing is my life force.”
By incorporating industrial dance music into ‘LG7’, Lady Gaga is tapping into a bold and edgy sound that aligns perfectly with her avant-garde aesthetic. This genre allows her to explore themes of chaos, love, and self-discovery in a way that is raw and unfiltered, adding a new dimension to her already eclectic discography.
With influences ranging from classic industrial bands like Nine Inch Nails to contemporary electronic artists like Gesaffelstein, Gaga’s foray into industrial dance music promises to be a thrilling sonic journey that will captivate listeners and push the boundaries of mainstream pop music.
The Evolution of Lady Gaga
Throughout her career, Lady Gaga has never been afraid to experiment with different musical styles and genres. From her early pop hits like ‘Just Dance’ and ‘Poker Face’ to her more recent ventures into jazz with Tony Bennett, Gaga has always kept her audience on their toes with unexpected collaborations and bold artistic choices.
With each album, Gaga has continued to reinvent herself and push the boundaries of pop music, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated fan base in the process. Her ability to seamlessly blend different genres and styles while maintaining her distinctive voice and vision is what sets her apart as a true musical innovator.
As she gears up for the release of ‘LG7’, fans can expect Lady Gaga to once again defy expectations and deliver an album that is both daring and deeply personal. When you think of iconic Boiler Room sets, you picture dimly lit warehouses, neon lights, and crowds packed tightly around the DJ booth. But DJ and producer Hugel, the French maestro of Afro House, decided to rewrite the playbook by bringing the Boiler Room energy to an unexpected venue—a McDonald’s restaurant.
The event, aptly dubbed “Big Beats and Big Macs,” took place in a fully operational McDonald’s in Berlin, complete with the golden arches glowing above the decks. The collaboration blurred the lines between nightlife culture and everyday fast-food experiences. The idea was bold, yet brilliantly executed, blending Hugel’s signature sound and deep beats with the familiar scent of fries and burgers.
The Make The Girls Dance Records event featured neon visuals, custom lighting rigs, and a sound system that ensured the McDonald’s-turned-club was pumping for hours. As mentioned in the video post on Instagram, Hugel’s first job after he dropped out of school at 18 years old was at a McDonald’s. However, this time the man was cooking beats instead of burgers, which made it an incredible time for the attendees. This is not the first time we see a rave inside a location of the popular restaurant chain. As a matter of fact, fellow Frenchman DJ Snake did throw a party of the same kind last year in Paris.
The year of 2024 continues to be filled with success in and out the DJ booth for Hugel. As promised in the comments, there will be more of these Boiler Room type events at some of McDonald’s locations around the world in the future, so keep an eye out.
Stay tuned for more news!

It’s hard to believe we’ve nearly breezed through a whole decade since 2015—an era that sparked an uproarious debate over the color of a viral dress, reignited the box office force with Star Wars: The Force Awakens and turned Drake's "Hotline Bling" into an inescapable meme. But through it all, one thing remains constant: the power of a great electronic track to capture a moment in time.
In the spirit of nostalgia—and perhaps a mild existential crisis, if we're being honest—we're revisiting the most iconic dance music anthems that are turning 10 in 2025.
Some fueled major festival rushes and topped global charts, others quietly reshaped the future by establishing the blueprint for breakout stars to come. All, however, set hearts and minds ablaze in their own way, making 2015 a year that bridged pop, dance, hip-hop and everything in-between.

Words by Ross Goldenberg and Zach Salafia.
If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times: ISOxo and Knock2’s joint explosion over the past few years gives us a feeling parallel to that of a proud parent, and in 2024, our admiration grew tenfold.
After closing the door on a momentous 2023 — capped off by the release of ISOxo’s debut album on top of their multi-night run at The Shrine — ISOxo and Knock2’s shared Dancing Astronaut 2024 Artist of the Year campaign was in motion just 16 days into the year. ISOKNOCK4 — the newest iteration of their back-to-back performances that originated in 2019 — was not only scheduled, it was happening at arguably the grandest setting in the live music space: Coachella. We could sit here and reminisce about every last detail from Polo Grounds for the next several hours, but we’ll just say that we had the pleasure of becoming a first-hand witness to the absolute bedlam that ensued under the Sahara Tent.

Before the two would even travel out to the desert, though, ISOxo would add a debut album tour to his 2024 record. And although they had more than a few collective feats this year, both artists also held their own, individually topping festivals like Ultra, Electric Forest, and Lightning in a Bottle while bringing their ISOKNOCK branding to North Coast Music Festival and Ultra Japan.
Shortly after his kidsgonemad (which would be later followed by a deluxe edition) tour, ISOxo would reunite with his San Diego counterpart to give those who couldn’t be at Coachella the opportunity to experience ISOKNOCK in Seattle, Brooklyn, San Francisco, Japan—their first-ever international date under the duo name—or ultimately during a homecoming weekend that requires its own section of this article.
But that’s enough rambling about their live show conquests for the time being. A month after their ISOKNOCK excursion beneath a bridge in Brooklyn, ISOxo and Knock2 etched a chapter in trap’s history books with the deployment of “SMACK TALK.” Little did anyone know, ISOxo, Knock2, and RL Grime’s Ultra ID-turned-trap-anthem would be the first peek at 4EVR, an eight-part ISOKNOCK album that they would unsuspectingly set loose on streaming platforms in August, and a project that would earn a place among Dancing Astronaut’s Top Albums of 2024.
Yet both ISOxo and Knock2’s comment sections — and even a few billboards around the city — were littered with one prevailing question: When were they coming home? They didn’t just answer it in early December — they wrote a love letter to the city of San Diego. ISOxo and Knock2 reimagined the outskirts of Snapdragon Stadium, hosting a weekend equipped with festival-grade production, an A-list undercard featuring RL Grime and Madeon, two rowdy ISOKNOCK showings, and a concluding reveal of their new event, Niteharts Fest, for 2025. The full-circle weekend felt like a definitive victory lap that further closed their case for Dancing Astronaut’s 2024 Artist of the Year crown.

One would think that’s where their overarching argument comes to a finish, but it was not. Not long after their SD 4EVR blowout, Knock2 formally scheduled nolimit, his long-awaited, 17-track debut album, for the top of the new year.
Of course, we have to take a brief moment to reflect on Dancing Astronaut‘s personal ride alongside ISOxo and Knock2. Watching the duo climb from Dancing Astronaut’s Artists to Watch in 2021 class to Breakout Artist of 2022, and now, to Artist of the Year, is what every music fan dreams of when discovering what they believe to be a soon-to-be superstar—or superstars in this case.
Simply put, their chokehold on the scene deserves a standing ovation in and of itself. It’s what has truly set them apart from other acts in the dance scene, from their rockstar-like showmanship to the ceaseless energy of every crowd at every show, to their genre-blurring outputs to receiving the ultimate stamp of approval from their idols, like Skrillex, RL Grime, and Zedd. At every turn, they’ve managed to somehow one-up themselves, from their performance inside of a suspended shipping crane to their curation of a mini-festival for and within their hometown.
This year, ISOxo and Knock2 elevated themselves even further, into a no-man’s-land-esque level of dominance that feels incomparable to anything we’ve seen in recent memory, and we’re recognizing their impact by bestowing upon them our highest honor.
Congratulations to ISOxo and Knock2, Dancing Astronaut’s 2024 Artist of the Year.

Apple has once again proven its dominance in the tech industry with the staggering success of its AirPods. According to Bloomberg estimates, Apple generated a whopping $18 billion in revenue from AirPods sales in 2023. This figure surpasses the total revenue of popular companies like Spotify ($14B), Nintendo ($12B), eBay ($10B), and Intuit ($12B). The popularity of AirPods is undeniable, with the wireless earbuds holding a significant market share both in the US and globally. As we delve deeper into the world of AirPods, it becomes clear why Apple’s innovative product has captured the hearts of consumers worldwide.
When you think of wireless earbuds, the first product that comes to mind for many people is Apple’s AirPods. These sleek, white earbuds have become a symbol of status and style, favored by celebrities, influencers, and everyday consumers alike. The convenience of the AirPods, with their seamless connectivity to Apple devices and impressive sound quality, has elevated them to the top of the wireless earbud market. As we explore the numbers behind AirPods sales and market share, it’s evident that Apple has created a product that resonates with a wide range of consumers.
Looking ahead, analysts predict an even brighter future for Apple’s AirPods, with projections suggesting that they could generate a staggering $45 billion in annual revenue for the company by 2030. This growth trajectory is nothing short of impressive and solidifies AirPods as a key revenue driver for Apple. As we uncover the reasons behind the success of AirPods and their impact on the market, it becomes clear that Apple’s wireless earbuds are more than just a product—they’re a cultural phenomenon that has reshaped the way we listen to music and interact with our devices.
Competition and Market Share
While Apple’s AirPods dominate the wireless earbud market, they are not without competition. Brands like Sony, Samsung, BOSE, Sennheiser, LG, and Jabra have all entered the true wireless sound (TWS) segment, offering their own take on wireless earbuds with unique features and designs. Despite this, Apple’s AirPods continue to lead the pack, capturing a significant share of the market both in the US and globally.
One of the key factors contributing to AirPods’ success is Apple’s brand strength and loyal customer base. The company’s reputation for quality products and exceptional customer service has helped solidify AirPods as a top choice for consumers seeking wireless audio solutions. Additionally, Apple’s marketing prowess and retail presence have played a significant role in driving sales of AirPods, with the earbuds becoming a status symbol for tech-savvy individuals around the world.
As Apple looks towards the future, the continued success of AirPods is poised to drive significant revenue growth for the company, surpassing even the sales of iPads by 2030. With new innovations on the horizon and an ever-expanding market for wireless audio products, Apple’s AirPods are well-positioned to maintain their dominance in the industry for years to come.

"I didn't like having to be Avicii, and then having to be Tim."
That heartbreaking line from Avicii captures the gnawing duality of the legendary DJ, who posthumously narrates his own tragic journey in the upcoming Netflix documentary Avicii – I’m Tim.
Due out December 31st on Netflix, the film is set to release in tandem with Avicii – My Last Show, which revisits the night he graced the stage of Ibiza's storied Ushuaïa club for what would be his final performance. The prolific songwriter and dance music producer, whose real name was Tim Bergling, died by suicide less than two years later in 2018.
"I was a lot happier before I was famous than after I was famous," Bergling says in the documentary, of which EDM.com viewed an advance screening. "I started feeling kind of very empty and unhappy. So I was just on autopilot mode. I started really f***ing wondering why I was feeling like this. I hadn't been honest to myself, what I was feeling... And my tempo also didn't really give me much time to explore it either."
Many have spun the last vestiges of Avicii into multimedia experiences in the wake of his death, but none have achieved the level of intimacy as Avicii – I'm Tim. Director Henrik Burman said he absorbed "thousands of hours" of private archival footage, audio recordings and even ultrasound scans and babyhood memories captured on family VHS tapes, many of which appear in the film.
Avicii making music on the go in a still image from the production of Netflix's upcoming documentary, "Avicii - I'm Tim."Netflix
It's a poignant retrospective examining the gradual deterioration of a generational artist grappling with the unrelenting weight of the music industry's demands, and in desperate need of an escape. When Bergling's inner demons finally became too loud to ignore, his father Klas arranged an hours-long intervention attended by the DJ's siblings, friends and management team, he reveals in the film. His son was "furious" and refused to give in at first, but ultimately agreed it was time to change.
"It was excruciatingly painful to see the look in his eyes," Klas recalled with a wince.
Avicii's musical collaborators shared similar concerns at the time. It was agonizingly clear the haunting lyrics that now define his discography were a window into his soul as his struggles took a turn for the worse.
Speaking in the documentary, Aloe Blacc ponders Avicii's state of mind when writing the first lines of their collaborative song "SOS," which ultimately appeared in 2019's posthumous album Tim. Exploring themes of persistent hope against despair, the lyrics ("Can you hear me? SOS / Help me put my mind to rest") left breadcrumbs of his inner turmoil that now reverberate with devastating clarity.
"It seemed as though we had this call for help, and I'm receiving this letter from Tim way too late," said Blacc, who is also the featured voice in Avicii's most-streamed song, the timeless "Wake Me Up."
The film also features interviews with David Guetta and Coldplay's Chris Martin, among various other Avicii collaborators, as well as his former manager Arash Pournouri, who played a pivotal role in his rise to fame.
Avicii – I’m Tim will release on Netflix December 31st, 2024. You can watch the trailer below.
