2006 has been a successful year for house music, facing releases such as Axwell’s ‘World Hold On’ Remix, Fedde Le Grand with his massive hit ‘Put Your Hands Up For Detroit,’ and Tell Me Why, Supermode’s only track which with time, has become a huge classic.
Years before uniting powers with Sebastian Ingrosso and creating Swedish House Mafia, Axwell and Steve Angello have formed the Supermode duo for one special occasion, when they produced ‘Tell Me Why.’ The track sampled two songs from the British pop band Bronski Beat. The instrumental which is inspired by ‘Smalltown Boy,’ and the vocals from the song ‘Why.’
The track explores the concept of emotional ambiguity and the pursuit of clarity. The repetitive phrase ‘Tell Me Why’ symbolises a desire to understand the causes or motivations behind specific events or acts. These ideas of Axwell and Angello have gone far into the charts, reaching the UK Top 40 and spending 7 consecutive weeks there.
The leads of this track are so famous that it is impossible not to recognise them when you hear the song live. After its original release date, ‘Tell Me Why‘ has been reinterpreted by many other artists in the form of remixes, but in 2022 the Meduza trio has shocked the world with their new, own view of the song. Produced and mixed with a modern sound, the track is rocking the biggest festivals in the world with its bass and buildup. Swedish House Mafia have also used the remix in their sets, showing support for new versions of the tracks that they originally made.
