Apple is at the current moment, working diligently towards the development of an iPhone featuring a fully all-screen design, with expectations to achieve this objective within the next few years. According to his article in the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman indicated that Apple intends to reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on new iPhone models scheduled for release next year. Furthermore, he anticipates the introduction of a redesigned iPhone model in celebration of its 20th anniversary in the following year.

Gurman has previously noted that this 20th-anniversary iPhone will soon to include curved glass edges, exceptionally thin bezels, and a truly edge-to-edge screen devoid of any cutouts. This model would represent the first iPhone to offer a completely seamless all-screen design.

The move to the all-screen design signals another grand chapter of the Apple iPhone

Additionally, last month, Wayne Ma of The Information reported that the iPhone 18 Pro models, expected to launch next year, will feature under-screen Face ID technology. These devices will include only a small aperture in the top-left corner to accommodate the front camera, which means the traditional pill-shaped cutout will no longer be present. This development raises questions regarding Gurman’s assertion about the reduction of the Dynamic Island for next year.

In summary, it appears that the first fully all-screen iPhone, which will feature both under-screen Face ID and an under-screen front camera, is projected for release in 2027. The transition to a comprehensive all-screen design is progressing steadily and appears to be on track. Beginning with the iPhone X in 2017, Apple moved from Touch ID and thick bezels to Face ID and a notch. This evolution continued with the iPhone 14 Pro in 2022, which transitioned from the notch to the Dynamic Island.
