Mix of the Week – Agoria Live at Musee D’Orsay, Paris

Musée d’Orsay, Paris, France last month invited electronic musician and digital artist Agoria to perform celebrating the premiere of Le Code d’Orsay – a first for the institution and now as our Mix of the Week.

A fresh fusion of art, technology, and science, Agoria’s commission and performance represented a groundbreaking journey into the digital sphere. Musée d’Orsay’s recent focus on the connection between the emergence of experimental art and its collections resulted in a rare invitation to the Fresh musician to give his unique take on the Musée d’Orsay, its architecture and its masterpieces.

Now available exclusively via Apple Music, the unique DJ set by the French digital artist, DJ, composer and producer included original composition inspired by the Musée d’Orsay and was recorded within the Museums nave; a majestic 19th-century railway station on the Seine’s Left Bank, lined with the masterworks of Monet, Manet, and van Gogh. 

Musée d’Orsay’s recent focus on the connection between the emergence of experimental art and its collections resulted in a rare invitation to Agoria to give his unique take on the Musée d’Orsay, its architecture, and its masterpieces.

A leading player in digital art and visionary Sébastien Devaud, known as Agoria sees his entire artistic practice revolving around biological generative art, meaning the creation of works using algorithms, artificial intelligence and data from the living world. He works closely with scientists to design works that combine art, music, the Metaverse and science, intending to bring the living world into the “blockchain”.

As part of this invitation entitled {Le code d’Orsay}, which ran from 13 February to 10 March, Agoria presented two works The first, “Σ Lumina”, with a highly poetic, participative and experimental dimension, and a second “Interpretation by Saccharomyces cerevisiae of The Painter’s Studio by Gustave Courbet” which very closely links the respective worlds of art and science. This connection is at the heart of the artist’s approach, wishing to show that the cryptic and digital worlds are inseparable from the physical and living worlds. 

“Le Code d’Orsay” included a DJ set by the artist and a discussion about the evolving relationship between art and science. 

The exhibition was curated by Christophe Leribault, President of the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie, and Virginie Donzeaud, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Musée d’Orsay and the Musée de l’Orangerie
