When a DJ explicitely says they would not work with another artist, usually we would be shocked. However, DJ and Producer Fatboy Slim has a really understandable excuse as to why he would not be able to work with electronic star Fred again.. .

Technology Savvy?

Turns out Norman Cook AKA Fatboy Slim wouldn’t work with Fred Again.. only because Slim is far too old-school with his old equipment. He stated that would not be able to catch up to Fred’s. On an interview for Apple Music 1, Slim expressed that people have requested for both british artists to collaborate. However, Slim explained that Fred’s tech is far too advanced. He continued, that even into this century, he was using his Atari ST-based setup until he was peer-pressured to upgrade to a smaller laptop. He then had to learn Ableton, which was a challenge for him. Nevertheless, he was able to adapt and conquer well into this decade.

Nevertheless, Cook still dabbles back into his retro-gear here and there. Whenever he can’t find inspiration in his laptop, he will go back to his Atari set up and let the flow carry his art. Furthermore, he gave Fred Again.. his flowers :

f”I’m old school, i’m og and i’m used to just playing records with the cross fader and maybe just using a sample a bit, but he’s taking it to the next level, i don’t feel like i’m in the same conversation as him.”

Jokingly, he also stated that he would feel lost producing during a session with Fred. He since considers Fred as a tech-wizard. Towards the end of the interview, Fatboy Slim announced that he has a new single on the way. Even though he was not as excited to reveal ‘Bus Stop Please’, we are extremely excited to enjoy more of the OG.

Slim is currently Europe before touching down in North America For Escape Halloween in San Bernardino and Radius in Chicago.
