Hi Alfiya, how are you? Congrats on the release of ‘Cloudland’!
I’m doing great and thank you so much!
‘Cloudland’ delivers a stunning blend of Organic House and your signature violin sound. Can you take us behind the scenes, what was the initial spark that inspired this track?
I spend a lot of time on planes, soaring above the clouds, and every time, I’m mesmerized by the mystery and beauty of what lies beyond the earthly plane. That sense of weightlessness, wonder, and infinite possibility was the spark behind ‘Cloudland.’
Your violin work always adds such a unique and emotional depth to your productions; how did you approach incorporating it into ‘Cloudland’? Was there a particular feeling or story you wanted to convey?
Incorporating the violin into ‘Cloudland’ came very naturally, as always. The melodic and organic nature of the track created the perfect space for me to weave in beautiful violin layers. I wanted the violin to feel like a conversation with the other elements—fluid, expressive, and deeply emotional. My goal was to evoke a sense of wonder and freedom, like drifting through the clouds, where everything feels weightless and limitless.
How did you balance the organic elements like violin and piano with the electronic layers to create the energy of the track?
At this point, balancing organic and electronic elements is an intuitive process. The key is timing—making sure the organic instruments, like violin and piano, come in at the right moments, allowing the track to maintain its energy and evolve naturally. It’s all about creating space for each element to shine without overpowering the groove, so the music flows seamlessly between the organic and electronic worlds.
Were there any specific synths, plugins, or production techniques that played a key role in shaping the sound of this song?
Yes, I spent a lot of time experimenting with different reverbs and delays to capture the essence of the track. Creating a sense of depth and atmosphere was essential, so I carefully sculpted the space around the violin and other elements to make everything feel immersive and expansive. I also used some warm, analog-style synths to complement the organic textures, making sure everything blended seamlessly into the sonic landscape.
Was there a particular moment in the production of ‘Cloudland’ that required you to rethink or push through something unexpected?
Arrangement was definitely something I had to rethink a few times. I wanted ‘Cloudland’ to maintain its energy while still allowing the organic elements to breathe. There were moments when the track felt like it lost momentum, so I revisited the structure to make sure it was dynamic, with just the right balance of tension and release. It was all about finding the perfect rhythm to keep the energy flowing while honoring the emotional depth of the track.
The breakdown in ‘Cloudland’ is especially powerful, bringing everything back to your violin before building into the drop. How did you craft that moment, and what emotions were you aiming to evoke?
The breakdown in ‘Cloudland’ was a crucial moment, and I really wanted to bring everything back to the violin to create a sense of intimacy and reflection. It’s a space where the track slows down, allowing the emotion to settle before building up again. I aimed to evoke a feeling of vulnerability and openness—like a moment of stillness before the energy lifts again. By stripping everything back to the violin, I wanted to allow the listener to fully absorb the emotion of the track before the drop brings everything back to life with even more intensity.
This release comes via your own label, CosmycGlo Records. How does having your own imprint influence the way you create and release music?
Releasing music under my own label, CosmycGlo Records, is a conscious choice. As a female producer in a business where women make up less than 3% of the global production community, I believe it’s incredibly important to have full rights to your own music. While I may still collaborate with other labels in the future, it’s an honor to be able to release my original work through my own imprint. There are few women who get to do this, and I want to use this platform to pave the way for others and empower more women in the industry.
Does ‘Cloudland’ represent a new creative direction for you and CosmycGlo Records? Or is it part of a larger vision you’re building with your label?
I believe ‘Cloudland’ brings a new, unique flavor, but it’s still very much part of the bigger picture. I’m feeling that my style will continue to evolve in exciting ways this year—ways that I don’t even fully know yet. My creative journey is constantly shifting, and with CosmycGlo Records, I have the freedom to explore and experiment. This track is just one piece of a larger vision that’s unfolding, and I’m excited to see where it leads.
Your music is deeply tied to your live performances; how do you see ‘Cloudland’ translating into your DJ sets and violin performances? Any special plans for performing it live?
Yes, I’ve already performed ‘Cloudland’ live quite a few times at my bookings, and it’s always been positively received. I’m really excited to perform it at the upcoming Yearn festival in Playa del Carmen this May. I plan to incorporate my FX pedals and looper to bring an extra layer of creativity to the performance, allowing the track to evolve in real-time and give the audience a unique experience each time. It’s always a special moment when I can connect with the crowd through both the violin and electronic elements, and I’m looking forward to seeing how ‘Cloudland’ will translate in that live setting.
With ‘Cloudland’ now out, what’s next for you? Can we expect more music in this style, or are there any surprises in the works?
While Cloudland fits within my current sound, I’ve been feeling a bit confined by the “House music box” lately, and I’m definitely eager to explore my divine feminine creativity by incorporating new sounds into my music. I don’t want to give too much away just yet, but there are definitely some exciting surprises in the works. I’m looking forward to experimenting with new genres and textures, and I think fans will be pleasantly surprised by what’s coming next.
