Many are questioning whether the Brooklyn Mirage venue will ever open its doors this summer, after several events were moved from its calendar. Recently, another event quietly changed locations. On Friday, June 20, the ticket seller Dice started telling people holding tickets that the Mirage’s upcoming Boiler Room concerts on July 11 and 12 would happen at a different spot. These shows have been moved to Under The K Bridge in Greenpoint, a venue that has taken on many of the troubled venue’s events as it works through a long-standing issue with its permits.
On social media, where a picture of the announcement was shared, people are starting to wonder about the venue’s mixed-up schedule. Some are even coming up with ideas about what’s really happening or doubting if it will open at all this summer.
Moving the Boiler Room event, which was supposed to feature artists like Boyz Noise and Tinashe over two days, is just the latest in many shows that have been put off, moved to a new time, or called off completely since May 1. That’s when the venue was first supposed to open. Now, it’s been a whole month since they’ve said anything publicly. Their last statement was on May 20, when Brooklyn Mirage announced on Instagram that they had changed the dates for all their Memorial Day weekend shows.
Last week, Avant Gardner brought in Andrew Axelrod, a financial expert connected to the former CEO, to help get the necessary building permits. However, the doubts still remain: Will the venue be able to welcome any guests this season, or will it remain closed? For now, we’re not sure of either.
