- Hey DAMIAN! Glad to have you here to talk with you about your latest release ‘Am I Dreaming’.
- Thank you for having me! It’s a pleasure to be here.
- Can you please tell us more details about ‘Am I Dreaming’? How did it come to life and when?
- ‘Am I Dreaming’ actually came to life back in late 2022. At the time, it was just a rough demo — but I remember the moments in making it. I had goosebumps starting from my forearms all the way down my legs. I literally sat there thinking, “What is happening? What did I just make? Am I dreaming?” That moment I knew I had something special.
- What sets ‘Am I Dreaming’ apart from your previous work, and why should listeners tune in?
- I’m not really a good spokesperson, but I can say it’s something refreshing. Everyone is doing either Afro-House or Techno and I’ve been taught to go the other way. This is a Summer classic. Something that can be played on the radio and in the clubs.
- How would you describe your sound?
- My sound can definitely vary from track to track, but one thing that’s always there is the groove.
- You’re known for your standout remixes, like your takes on Alicia Keys tracks and your Swedish House Mafia – Finally remix, which landed in the top 10 out of 850 versions. What’s your creative process when reimagining such iconic songs? How do you balance honoring the original while making it distinctly your own?
- In the case of Finally, I leaned into a more club-focused sound, adding energy and drive while giving it a new context that still feels true to the emotion of the original. My goal is always to create something that feels familiar but fresh — something that might surprise you on the dancefloor, but still makes sense emotionally.
I see remixes as a conversation with the original — not a copy or an edit, but a reinterpretation that introduces a new perspective.
- Who is DAMIAN and why music? At what age did you get into music and how?
- I’m really just being me — someone who’s always been obsessed with sound and storytelling. My journey into music started when I was around 9 years old. I had a few years of classical guitar training, which gave me a solid foundation, even though at the time I had no idea I’d end up in electronic music.
- I actually grew up listening to electronic tracks without even knowing what the genre was called. It wasn’t until I was about 16 that I really discovered what electronic dance music was — and once I knew what to look for, everything changed.
- Do you remember the name of the first song that made you love electronic music?
- I do, actually. When I was a kid, my older cousin used to burn MP3s onto my player — whatever he had at the time, whatever was available. That’s how I first came across Chemical Brothers – Galvanize.
- Later on, when the internet became more accessible and YouTube started to take off, I remember a particular track — I can’t recall the exact name, but it started with a Swedish TV reporter. That track really opened the door for me into the world of electronic music.
- Who or what has been your biggest inspiration throughout your music journey?
- One of my biggest inspirations has always been the desire to leave something behind — to create music that outlives the moment, that resonates with people long after they’ve heard it. It’s about legacy. Not fame or trends, but impact.
- Also, your studio is set in a castle – how does that unique environment influence your creative process? Does the grandeur or history of the space find its way into your productions?
- Absolutely — having my studio set in a castle is something I don’t take for granted. The space itself is incredibly motivating, not just because of the history and atmosphere, but also because it’s physically very spacious. That openness gives me a sense of creative freedom that’s really important to my process.
- I can be pretty self-critical at times — constantly pushing myself to raise the bar — and being in that kind of environment helps balance that pressure.
- What’s the one activity you love doing in your free time when not making music?
- Music is such a wide field that even when I’m not producing, I’m usually doing something related to it — whether it’s planning visuals, working on a release strategy, or just listening and exploring new sounds. But when I really need to step away and reset, I usually go for a walk or hit the gym.
- Can you tell us more about your dream collaboration and what do you hope to achieve in the future in your professional career?
- A Lot of dream collaborations – I can’t name just one. As for the future, my goal is to build a legacy — not just as an artist, but as a creator, a visionary, and a label owner. I want to release music that resonates on a global scale, develop Lahor Records into a respected platform for emerging talent, and eventually push toward recognition on the highest levels.
- This is all for now. Thank you for your time answering our questions. Where can our community find out more about your music and your future releases?
