Nicky Romero is back with his first release of 2023, “Only for the Night,” a brooding but sultry dark-progressive house heater. “Only for the Night” comes under Nicky’s Monocule alias, for this one he teams up with Australian producer Marcus Santoro and the up and coming production duo Higher Lane. After a year in which Nicky Romero dabbled in all genres of music from house to progressive to even techno, “Only for the Night” seems like a perfect place to pick up in 2023.
“Only for the Night ” features a lot of the hallmarks of a Monocule track. Little buildup, sultry female vocals over the slowly building synths and percussion in the background, before they explode into an intoxicating blend of pads, horn synths, and a perfect melody to get you moving. The vocals while supremely confident, are actually desperate. The singer knows what she wants, and if it’s only for one night, well that’s just fine.
